Actually supposed to wear a fox mask but close enough. Loves to fight but wears full-body covering armor all of the time because of body dysphoria.

Agent Duskwalker - Any Pronouns Genderfluid Charr Tempest

A powerful elementalist, who was produced as the result of an asura krewe who hired their parents who were desperate for money after leaving the legions to have a child, as they were gifted with magical abilities as well. Was kidnapped by the Inquest for a bit but escaped. Joined the Order of Whispers to live their own life for the first time.

Vloxx - He/Him Asura Harbinger

Middle-aged asuran scientist whose left ear is gone and half of his face is scarred from an accidental explosion in his lab.

Ramirus Stripestalk - He/Him Charr Berserker

Charr who left the legions to live his own life. Has sensory issues and dislikes the feeling of fabric on his fur, so he wears as little clothing as possible.

Morcant Foamburst - He/Him Sylvari Deadeye

A soundless sylvari bounty hunter who is very mysterious and intimidating. Always wears a mask.

Archimede Silvestri - He/Him Human(?) Reaper

A human necromancer who died but used his necromancy to bring himself back to life, but he ended up becoming a skeleton. Now wears full-body covering clothes to hide his body while pretending he is just a regular human.

Vrix "The Assistant" - He/Him Asura Mirage

A very strange asura who uses his illusions to change his identity while he goes to work for various people with dubious morals. He enjoys watching them commit terrible deeds as well as watching them get caught eventually. He keeps repeating this cycle of finding new horrible people to play assistant for.

Kiille - They/Them Asura ???

A mysterious asura who was found as a newborn at the site of Thaumanova after its explosion. No one knows if they were a normal newborn who managed to miraculously survive, or if they were somehow created by the explosion itself. They are constantly glowing very brightly.

So I finally bought A Court of Thorns and Roses on Kindle just to see what the fuss was about, and all the sexy scenes are vaguely described and quickly fade to black before anything actually sexy happens.

Like, it's a great fantasy, there's no doubt about that, but I feel like it was grossly misrepresented by booktok. Or have I just been tainted by the Duskwalkers and the Vrix?

When Zurvashi, Queen of the Vrix, a race of spider-aliens, demands Ketahn be her mate, he is less than enthusiastic about the idea. On his return home to the Tangle, the jungle outside the city of Takarahl, he quite literally falls into the pit of destiny where he revives and meets Ivy Foster; a creature the types of which he has never seen.

Ivy didn't expect to wake up from her sixty years of cryosleep in the arms of a giant spider-alien. But she is quick to try and communicate with him, and is surprised to find him wanting to try to talk to instead of eat her.

Will Ketahn be able to keep Ivy safe from the Tangle and the other vrix? Will Ivy be able to let go of her past, or will it haunt her in this fresh start at life?

This was without a doubt one of the tensest books I have read recently. If you are looking for a book that contains hot alien on human action, you will find it here...after you get through the plot. This is a book with a story to tell, and nothing, not even romance will get in the way of that.

Additionally, there is violence in this book. Ketahn is assaulted several times throughout the book by Queen Zurvashi. And Ivy, before her cryosleep, was manipulated and made a victim of sexual assault by her ex-boyfriend on Earth. Ivy's sexual assault is not explicitly described, but the way it was written still disturbed me so much that I considered DNFing this book. But, l'm no quitter.

But I can understand how some people would be, seeing as the book has all of that and it ends on a cliffhanger.

Ensnared: An Alien Romance Trilogy (The Spider's Mate Book 1), is an enjoyable book. The characters and world building are excellent. The vrix have an actual language that is used and explained to Ivy and us, throughout the story. And seeing Ketahn and Ivy bond and fall in love makes the struggle they face worthwhile. But you have to get through a lot of plot, and for some, extremely uncomfortable situations to get there.

Cover Appreciation: A Spider's Mate Trilogy by Tiffany Roberts

The gorgeous artwork on these covers tells you EVERYTHING you need to know:

The genre (Fantasy [technically Fantasy and Sci-fi] Romance)

That the series follows a single couple. Which is rare among Romance novels (although I've seen quite a few recently while looking for new books to read. I have to be extra careful now since I prefer serieses of standalones with an overarching plot, so being able to tell just by the covers is incredibly helpful.)

What type of monster’s getting fucked (there's literally no getting around that Ketahn's a spider. Not a spidertaur/coptaur/arachnetaur where the upper-half's human and the bottom-half's spider oh no, a full on top and bottom spider with a little big of humanoidness sprinkled in as a treat)

At least one of their genders.

What they look like (the best part of illustrated covers is that they can actually show what the characters look like... unlike a lot of stock photo covers which almost always leave me with a feeling of "that doesn't match the descriptions in the book" )

Their dynamic (big/small, dom/sub; Ketahn's obviously the one in control, look at that body language! In addition to their sexual dynamic being on display you can also see that they get closer and more comfortable with each other with each book. [Ivy's definitely looking up with heart-eyes on Enthralled])

Even the webs in the back change too, becoming more cohesive and put together with each cover. Her outfits also help tell the story, changing from the human clothes she had while on the ship into dresses made from Ketahn's own silk.

I only have a few criticisms. And the biggest one is about the last book. To get straight to it: “Bound” feels… odd. I would have probably named it something like Entangled or Enamored or something. And the reason is simply because it breaks pattern--and instead of putting a flourish on the bottom of the N they chose the top of the U... why? It just bothers me.

Now my next criticism is more so for the trilogy "box"(?) set cover.

It's gorgeous and really embodies their dynamic… except, there is something to be said about the white/black innocent/dangerous dynamic that it gives off that is very watered down in the individual covers. The webs in this one are drawn so that Ketahn's looks like a puppeteer and Ivy's his puppet which is very sinister.

While the Vrix aren’t necessarily Black coded, they ARE coded as non-white and indigenous (possibly Asian). They’re also more “primitive” (🤢) than the humans and the dark/light dichotomy does make me a bit uncomfy. If the other books (Roberts intends to write books about Ketahn's friends and their human mates) continue with the same pattern, ill become much more concerned (I'm especially nervous about what the Japanese girl’s [who's meek and shy personality is already a red flag] book cover's going to have on it).

I checked Goodreads to see if there were any alternate covers and found that only the first book (Ensnared) has one.

I do like this cover, and I wonder if Roberts will make matching covers for the other two as well. The only problem with this cover is that it's... more Horror- than Romance-oriented. That doesn’t mean I don’t like it, but it definitely doesn’t look like a Romance, especially since it doesn’t say “A Spider’s Mate” on it and instead has a very threatening tagline 😂 (having read the books, I think the tagline is great but it really does feed the whole horror-thing this cover’s got going on) as a cover it’s obviously beautiful; the black, purple, green, and white an absolutely gorgeous combination.

As a final note I wanna point out that when I first saw this cover I thought the spider was gonna be asexual because he’s got the ace-flag colors on him.

That is not the case 😅 (though I would love to use that sort of color symbolism in a story someday)

They have not always been at each other’s throats, they actually used to be best friends once, and I drew these baby versions specifically so some players could witness how the whole conflict came to be, but unfortunately nobody got to meet them in the Irridia event. So I’ll just say it involves time travel and and kids hopelessly lost in space. The usual stuff, you know :P Anyway, enjoy their babyfaces. Azalis is a few years older than Braksi and I think it shows :P

🧡 Who is your OC’s favourite person? Why is this person the top of their list and have they actually met them (an idol or rolemodel or celeb can be someone’s favourite after all!).

Her favorite person would easily be her adoptive father, Vrix! He taught her nearly everything she knows and helped her become the strong willed and stubborn person she is today!

She wouldn't know what to do if something ever happened to him (or her mom, Mirra). He taught her to stand tall even when people look down upon her, to never question her own morales and to not let anyone push her to the side and dismiss her. He's probably the most important person in her life, outside of her mother and Garrus.

⭐ What is your OC afraid of? Any crippling phobias or some such? How do they act when scared and what helps them calm down? Does anyone ever find your OC scary? Why?

Her biggest fear, as cliche as it is, is failure. But more so, they are horrified they'll fail the whole galaxy and be unable to stop the reapers.

Outside of that, she's terrified of the dark. What keeps her from absolutely breaking down and letting her fear get the better of her, she just tells herself "When you're lost in the darkness, look for the light." Which happens to be Garrus, he keeps her grounded and makes her feel safe. He is quite honestly her lifeline and the light of her life.

She can certainly come off as scary, especially to politicians, solely due to her abrasive and somewhat hostile demeanor when in the presence of them. She's stubborn and always knows what she wants and never backs down from a challenge. She doesn't let people like Udina stop her from getting what's hers. Not to mention she's notorious for clocking salarian delatrasses in the jaw, because she does not tolerate people looking down upon the krogan.

(Not to mention she's an overpowered biotic)

💙 What did your OC want to be when they grew up and why? Did they have any lifelong dreams or ambitions they never got to work on or are they currently working to achieve this dream? Has their life taken a very unexpected turn and put all these plans on hold for a while or have they given up on any dreams?

El really wanted to be a krogan when she grew up, all because of the stories her parents told her when she was a child. Seeing how proud her parents were to be krogan, despite the long history of violence. Aside from that, her one dream was to see the galaxy, to visit places she never deemed possible before. Dreams she was able to strive for and achieve once her parents urged them to enlist in the Alliance. She has been through the Omega-4 relay, she has seen the assri homeworld, hell, she went deep deep underwater and met a long forgotten race. She's living her dream right now.

It's weird to look back at a situation in retrospect. I was never angry with you, I just.. let the comments go because I was so excited to have a friend. I should have spoken up and should have just followed my own word.

But when you're angry and stupid, you just.. act out of spite and then lose everything you care about. And it will always be your fault. It breaks my heart.

What hurts the most is that it's over a game. A friend made on a game.

But I've always had that problem. I overshare and let myself be vulnerable with people when I guess I shouldn't. I make Vrix mad and don't realize what I've done until the aftermath.

Idk. I'm not even angry. I'm just the deepest kind of sad.
