India were beaten by Pakistan for the first time in a Word Cup match as openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan made unbeaten half centuries in pursuit of a 152 target in their group B match of the T20 World Cup in Dubai on Sunday.

The win marked Pakistan's first win in a T20 by 10 wickets and India's first loss by the same margin in the same format of the game.

The result also ended Pakistan's wait to beat India at a World Cup match, 50-over and T20.

Defending a target of 152 was never an easy task for India as Azam and Rizwan did not take any risks and played the bowling on its merits while the runs began to flow at a steady pace.

None of the Indian bowlers had a dog's chance to break through the partnership as their famed fast bowling trio of Bhuveshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah conceded 90 runs between them in 9.5 overs.

Rizwan needed just 55 balls to make 79 with six fours and three sixes while Azam hit six fours and two sixes facing 52 deliveries.

India may have lost the match well within the first six power-play overs when they were reduced to 31 runs with KL Rahul (3), Rohit Sharma (0) and Suriyakumar Yadav (11) back in the pavilion.

Paceman Shaheen Shah Afridi signalled Pakistan's strangulation of India when in his first over he trapped Rohit Sharma for a first-ball duck and in his next over bowled KL Rahul.
