Uncovering the Fraudulent Practices of the American University of Integrated Science
Studying abroad is a dream for many students. The promise of a better education, a new cultural experience, and a chance to grow personally and professionally is an exciting prospect. Unfortunately, there are many unscrupulous individuals and organizations that take advantage of this dream, scamming innocent students in the name of abroad education. hese scams can take many forms, from fake universities and colleges to fraudulent agents and recruiters. They prey on students who are eager to study abroad, promising them admission to prestigious institutions or assistance with visas and other paperwork.
American University of Integrated science is one such fraud university that is cheating students by creating fake websites and brochures ultimately charging them crores of rupees. They are a bunch of scammers and don’t even own any license or any legal document stating them as a university and are operating in a 5-room apartment. These scammers will try to lure innocent students into their traps making them believe that they will get access to Foreign medical education but instead, those students are just losing their hard-earned money as well as their lives to such gangs.
In some cases, the scammers will even go so far as to create fake websites and social media accounts, posing as legitimate universities or education agencies. They may use stolen logos and other branding materials to make themselves look official, but in reality, they have no affiliation with any real educational institution. The consequences of falling victim to these scams can be devastating for students. They may lose large sums of money, miss out on legitimate opportunities, and even face legal consequences if they unknowingly obtain a fraudulent degree or visa.
There are plenty of universities such as Victoria University of Barbados, Bridgetown International University, and Lincoln American University. Who are frauding students in their traps, so stay alert and recognize all the red flags at very initial stage.

The creeping threat of the Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt
Visible from space, an explosion of harmful seaweed now stretches like a sea monster across the ocean. Could robots save us from it – and store carbon in the process?
— By Zan Barberton | Tuesday 7 March 2023
Seaweed has been having a moment. Eco-influencers and columnists rave about its benefits, in everything from beauty products to biofuels. Jamie Oliver has embraced it as a recipe ingredient; Victoria Beckham uses it to keep off the pounds. And they’re right: seaweed is packed with nutrition, it sucks up carbon and is an amazingly versatile addition to the green economy.
But one type of seaweed is not a benign force. Vast fields of sargassum, a brown seaweed, have bloomed in the Atlantic Ocean. Fed by human activity such as intensive soya farming in the Congo, the Amazon and the Mississippi, which dumps nitrogen and phosphorus into the ocean, the sargassum explosion is by far the biggest seaweed bloom on the planet. The Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt, as it’s known, is visible from space, stretching like a sea monster across the ocean, with its nose in the Gulf of Mexico and its tail in the mouth of the Congo.
“I think I’ve replaced my climate change anxiety with sargassum anxiety,” says Patricia Estridge, CEO of Seaweed Generation, a UK startup working to make seaweed commercially viable.

Sargassum’s appearance can be deceiving. It is beautiful, layered like golden mats on the surface of the open ocean. Distinguished by bubble-like formations in its stems that keep it floating on the surface, pelagic sargassum has sloshed about in the Atlantic since well before Christopher Columbus sailed across the wide Sargasso Sea: in 1492, he wrote that he feared his boat would be trapped in it. But even early witnesses recognised its value: it provides a safe harbour and breeding ground for fish, turtles and other marine life. Under the surface it teems with life, like an upside-down reef.
What is alarming, is the rate at which it is growing. Oceanographer Ajit Subramaniam, who has run scientific research expeditions in the South Atlantic for 25 years, first noticed it in 2018. “Here was something I’d never seen before,” he says. “One moment we were in the blue sea, then bam! It was all around the ship for tens, hundreds of metres.”

Unwilling to believe his eyes, he talked to other oceanographers, who confirmed that there was a huge sargassum bloom in the South Atlantic. Chuanmin Hu and his team from the University of South Florida’s (USF) optical oceanography laboratory had been monitoring it using satellite imagery since 2011 and had seen it explode in size. In June 2022, Hu estimated the size of the Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt to be 24.2m tonnes – about four times the weight of the Great Pyramid of Giza.
A sargassum landing event is a spectacular phenomenon. Vast rafts arrive without warning, often in calm sunny weather at the height of tourist season, smothering miles of coastline in golden seaweed, which piles up, sometimes metres high, turning brown and fetid as it rots.
The first places to really feel the impact of sargassum were the Windward Islands in the Caribbean. Shelly-Ann Cox, chief fisheries officer for the Barbados government, has been working on sargassum mitigation for more than a decade. She describes the environmental and economic fallout as catastrophic: “Every year we’re seeing more and more countries reporting of the influx, and the devastating impacts on tourism, fishery sectors and transport.”

Sargassum assaults harm coastal wildlife and fish, and interfere with vital infrastructure, including water and power supplies. In addition, the hydrogen sulphide released when it decays has been shown to cause a range of human health problems, from mild headaches or eye irritation to unconsciousness and worse, while a 2022 paper has linked it to an increased risk of serious pregnancy complications in women living on the coast.
Wildlife is affected when sargassum blocks light to the seabed in shallower waters, while newly hatched turtles are unable to crawl to the sea over mountains of rotting seaweed.

Sargassum blooms fluctuate: it is most abundant in summer when the sea is calm and blue, before storms break up and scatter the golden mats. But also clear from the data, is that it is growing inexorably, fed by the climate crisis. Increased sea surface temperatures, upwelling and changing currents have combined with nutrients caused by human activity such as sewage and soya farming in the basins of the great rivers of North and South America, and Africa. Sand blown from the Sahara also brings with it iron and other essential minerals.
A more basic problem, however, is how to dispose of this contaminated biomass. Some have suggested using it as a fertiliser, but the heavy metals it contains – particularly arsenic – make it dangerous to feed to plants. Composting, too, could allow the arsenic to leach into groundwater, then drinking water and the food chain, leading several Caribbean nations to ban sargassum composting. As for industrial uses, removing the heavy metals requires so much processing that it is not cost-effective.
“There are so many climate-positive uses for seaweed, but then there are many different seaweeds in the ocean,” says Estridge. “No one could think of a commercially viable solution for sargassum.”
Jeff Davis, of the Georgia Institute of Technology, has brought together a team of undergraduates to work on this “grand challenge”. The group of young engineers and biologists travelled to the Dominican Republic to understand the scale of the problem and try to find solutions. Biology student Harshini Vummadi is exploring its uses in purifying water. Other team members have experimented with using it as a building material, or as a biofuel, using black soldier flies to “process” it, which are later removed.

“There are so many brilliant minds working on this – they just need the investment,” Cox says. But no idea has yet stood out enough to attract investment: sargassum does not, yet, seem to have the capacity to make anyone rich.
Nevertheless, Subramaniam argues that the world owes it to the Caribbean nations to help them to deal with the threat of sargassum, noting that they contribute least to the climate crisis yet are facing a direct impact. “I would like to figure out a financing model where we can actually have credit going to communities in Barbados for the carbon that is sequestered,” he says.
And sargassum’s ability to suck up carbon is behind what it probably the wildest and most ambitious plan to date: capture it using robots, bundle it up and sink it to the bottom of the sea.
Bricks, known as Sargablock, made from sargassum in Puerto Morelos, Mexico. The bricks are cheaper than traditional cement blocks. Photograph: Reuters
“There is a lot of carbon biomass associated with sargassum – about 3m tonnes in the Great Sargassum Belt,” Subramaniam notes. “Through photosynthesis it is taking up atmospheric carbon dioxide and converting that into organic carbon.” Sinking it to the bottom of the sea would store that carbon for a couple of centuries, buying the Earth time to “flatten the carbon curve”, he says.
With the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change stating that 10bntonnes of carbon will need to be removed every year by 2050 to keep global heating below 1.5C, the Great Atlantic Sargassum belt contains a fraction of what needs to be sequestered – but it could be scaled up with seaweed cultivation.
An artist’s impression of the robots that will collect, bundle and sink the sargassum. Photograph: Seaweed Generation
Estridge is forging ahead. At Seaweed Generation she developed technology to use the seaweed as a carbon sink. The firm has built a robot – “like a cross between Pac-Man and a Roomba” – to collect and sink the blooms, and she hopes carbon credits will provide the income to fund the operation.
Subramaniam and Estridge argue that the robots must sink the sargassum in the deep ocean, because in shallow waters it could rot and release methane. Subramaniam calculates that sinking the seaweed to a depth of between 2,000 and 4,000 metres will keep it submerged for several hundred years.
Both teams are testing their ideas: Subramaniam is seeing how the seaweed behaves in very deep water, while Seaweed Generation is working with partners in the Caribbean to follow the performance of the robot.
“The idea that it can be a nature-based solution for getting rid of some of this very small fraction – but still significant amount – of atmospheric carbon dioxide, I think is an important and exciting idea,” Subramaniam says.
Nevertheless, they fear it is only when the Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt hits the affluent coasts of the Florida Keys or swamps the beaches of Cancún during spring break that significant investment will materialise. “Outside the Caribbean, no one is really talking about it,” says Harshini.

Google Doodle of economist and Nobel laureate Sir Arthur Lewis makes the Caribbean proud
New Post has been published on http://khalilhumam.com/google-doodle-of-economist-and-nobel-laureate-sir-arthur-lewis-makes-the-caribbean-proud/
Google Doodle of economist and Nobel laureate Sir Arthur Lewis makes the Caribbean proud
“He was to Economics what Bob Marley was to music”
Screenshot of the Google Doodle of St Lucian-born economist Sir W. Arthur Lewis, on December 10, 2020.
As Caribbean netizens logged on to their browsers on the morning of December 10, they got a pleasant surprise: an illustrated portrait of Sir Arthur Lewis, whose head formed the second “O” in the Google Doodle of the day.
Today is the anniversary of the day Sir. W. Arthur Lewis was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize for his work on modeling the economic forces that affect developing countries #GoogleDoodle https://t.co/zODEor6esO pic.twitter.com/x4FSXcRPOw — Kimberleigh Peterson (@Kimberleigh_P) December 10, 2020
The St Lucian-born economist, who became known for his “Lewis model” of economic development, was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics in 1979. He was the first (and thus far, only) Black person to win the coveted prize in the field of economic sciences. He was also the first Black student to be admitted—via a scholarship, no less—to the London School of Economics (LSE), where he had the opportunity to be taught by some of the foremost economic thinkers of the time. Upon graduation, Lewis worked at the LSE for a while, before being co-opted in 1947 to the Victoria University of Manchester as a lecturer. In its tribute video explaining why it chose Lewis as the subject of its doodle, Google identified him as an “African-American economist and professor” who was “one of the pioneers of modern development economics.” The doodle was illustrated by Camilla Ru, quite fittingly a Manchester-based artist, since Lewis developed some of his most important concepts about economics in developing countries while at the University of Manchester. These concepts would prove invaluable to the Caribbean, given its push for independence from Great Britain in the late 1950s. In 1959, Lewis moved to the United States to take up a post as a professor at Princeton University, where he would work until his retirement in 1983—but he was a Caribbean man, through and through. Deeply influenced by the ideas of Trinidad and Tobago's first prime minister and one of the architects of Caribbean independence, Dr. Eric Williams, the pair remained lifelong friends. Lewis also used his knowledge to the region's benefit, having served as an economic advisor to various Caribbean governments, including Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. In 1959, he was appointed Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (The UWI), and in 1970, became the first president of the Caribbean Development Bank. In a Facebook post, university lecturer Amílcar Sanatan summed up the significance of Lewis and his work:
W. Arthur Lewis was a genius. Unfortunately, in Sixth Form and undergraduate Sociology we are taught more about the shortcomings of his theory and the failures of ‘industrialisation by invitation.’ What a way to minimise his thoughts, life and contributions to development economics. Thankfully, at The UWI, there has been a historical commitment to preserve his memory in conferences and architecture on campuses. Lewis was an outstanding child of St. Lucia whose contributions to the Caribbean, Third World and global community are unparalleled. He was to Economics what Bob Marley was to music. His anti-imperialism and decolonial thought emphasised political responsibility of little countries with bold political imaginations. We are the governors of our reality and we are responsible for our futures. His ascension to high-level institutions cloaks the image of a young Arthur Lewis writing pamphlets and notes about social unrest in the West Indies and making the case for self-determination and nationhood. Much respect to you, elder.
Lewis’ concepts continue to be relevant to this day. Most recently, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, chair of the CARICOM Reparations Commission, cited what he called the “Arthur Lewis paradigm” as the way for the region to approach the issue of slavery reparations. This model for Caribbean economic development was based on drastic action to support economic reform and more equitable wealth distribution — an approach which, in the words of Jamaican writer Geoffrey Philp, sought to move the region away from being “the fabled ‘beasts of burden.'” In 1963, the British government knighted Lewis for his pioneering achievements and contributions to the field of economics. He passed away in Barbados on June 15, 1991, at the age of 76, but his work—and his image—live on.

Top Lawyers In Canada In 2019
Sheila Block
Partner, Torys LLP, Toronto, Ont. One of the sharpest litigators in the nation, Block has served as lead counsel on a newly dismissed $5-billion class action lawsuit against CIBC and a $100-million suit brought by roughly 8,000 inhabitants of Barbados against Manulife. She was also staunch counsel for former Manitoba associate chief justice Lori Douglas from the inquiry of this judge's role in a scandal involving her husband, one of his former customers, and salacious photographs of herself submitted on the internet. Block additionally received an honorary LLD from the Law Society of Upper Canada this past year. An advocate dedicated to teaching law in Canada and around the globe, she has coached advocates for the United Nations War Crimes Tribunal in Rwanda and the Special Court in Sierra Leone. What voters had to say: Elle demontre son interet a la fois pour l'schooling du publique et des affaires. (She has demonstrated her fascination for the instruction of the public and company.)
Mark Tamminga
Partner, Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP, Hamilton, Ont. Tamminga has committed his career to automating lawful practices. His information technology focus started in 1986 while he was still a law student and was given the job of systemizing the manufacturing environment for mortgage files. Since that time, Tamminga's capability for legal technology has just grown with Gowlings LLP. Three decades back, he had been called Gowlings' Innovation Initiatives leader. He's responsible for automating the Gowlings recovery solutions clinic. He has designed and built a number of additional practice systems in the areas of debt collection, loan placement, and civil litigation. His role has demanded re-thinking that the thornier aspects of large firm operations: managing cultural change, inducing client-side believing, and building the reimbursement mechanisms, which induce new behavior. Exactly what the panel had to say: Tamminga has shown actual vision in handling tough issues that many law firms aren't quite prepared to take on.
Murray Klippenstein
Creator, Klippensteins Barristers & Solicitors, Toronto, Ont. Back to the second year on the Top 25, Klippenstein's continuing representation of 13 members of this indigenous Mayan Q'eqchi' inhabitants from El Estor, Guatemala, continues to make waves. Three associated lawsuits are before the Ontario courts against Canadian mining company Hudbay Minerals within the brutal killing of Adolfo Ich and the gang rape of 11 girls from Lote Ocho. In a precedent-setting judgment in July of 2013, an Ontario court decided that lawsuits could proceed to trial in Canada over the objections of Hudbay Minerals. At home he's also taking on the big guys in a situation against Encana Corp. which 's challenging the law and practice of hydraulic fracking at Canada. What voters had to say: Kudos for standing up for, upholding Canadian values, where we function.
Fred Headon
Assistant general counsel, labor and employment law, Air Canada, Montreal, Que. As chairman of the Canadian Bar Association's Futures Initiative, Headon has contributed over 25 presentations to lawyers, law students, professors, librarians, law firm staff, and labs in Toronto to Buenos Aires, Victoria to Halifax, in person and online. The Futures report was released in August 2014 and its recommendations put Headon squarely in the middle of several important discussions on subjects essential to the profession. He continues to direct the Futures steering committee as it now turns its guidelines into actions. Headon is an essential part of the debate on the future of this profession and he was the very first in-house counselor to become the president of the CBA. What Republicans needed to say: Brings energy and decency and the smarts to what he does.
Allison Dellandrea
Crown counsel, Ministry of the Attorney General,Toronto, Ont. Dellandrea was a key participant in advancing the understanding of crimes against children by law enforcement officials, fellow attorneys, and the judiciary. She had been included in a child sexual abuse case in March where Ontario's former deputy education minister Ben Levin pleaded guilty to child pornography related charges. The fees included making composed child porn, counseling a individual to commit a sexual assault, and possession of child porn. Dellandrea's role for a Crown includes function as education lead for Ontario's provincial plan on Internet crimes against children. She's an instrumental leader in this area within the justice department. What Republicans needed to say: Allison is a tireless source and is the penultimate legal mind to get a prosecutorial place on all things associated with child abuse and sexual assault offences. For this difficult subject that inherently involves quite reckless emotional and legal problems, Allison always has the time to provide sound guidance to additional Crowns prosecuting these very difficult and sensitive offences. Her efforts have made a concrete difference in making our society safer.
Dennis Edney and Nate Whitling
Defence adviser, Edmonton, Alta. In a rare move, Edney and Whitling have been termed as Best 25 honourees as a team. Both have spent over a decade recommending for Omar Khadr, nearly universally on a pro bono basis. From Guantanamo Bay to the Supreme Court of Canada (three times), the unlikely duo have fought for Khadr to get him released from prison (victory in May), have him treated as a child soldier, and continue to battle for his legal rights at home and abroad. It's been what the Globe and Mail called waging a war of legal attrition against the authorities, that has always done everything to paint Khadr as a dangerous terrorist who should be held behind bars. Edney, a former soccer player who only started practising law in 40, has become the public and press face of the continuing legal conflicts, even taking Khadr into his own home after he was recently released on bail. Whitling, a Harvard law graduate and former SCC clerk, is a much quieter and reserved drive behind the scenes. What Republicans needed to say: Dennis has gone above and beyond the call of duty in his defence of Omar Khadr. The nobility of the profession depends on lawyers like Dennis as we are occasionally called upon to defend unpopular entities or people -- but individuals who are no less deserving of natural justice and procedural fairness. Whitling is an intelligent and highly effective advocate who stays out of the limelight. He's a excellent lawyer. Exceptionally intelligent and excellent to work with.
