RECAP: Enchufate on Vocalo 91.1FM, Friday, June 7
Here’s all the information I shared this morning during our Enchufate segment on 91.1FM #TheMorningAmp powered by @vocalomusic GOOD MORNING! Happy Friday and happy weekend! Happy PRINCE Day and Happy Doughnut Day!
LatiNxtÂ
LatiNxt is a music and art festival taking place at Navy Pier next Friday and Saturday, June 14 & 15 and like last year there are three stages of music, the beer garden at the back of the pier, another one by the Ferris Wheel and the one at the entrance facing the lake. Artists this year are from Peru, Argentina, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Ecuador and all over the US and include plenty of local talent. The full lineup and schedule can be found here on Enchufate as well as FutureRootz.com or the Navy Pier page as well. I want to mention some of the other things going on before and in between performances.Â
On Saturday we have a full Artisans Market going on with everything from handmade jewelry and fashion to traditional art items from Chicago and Latin America. In addition there are two new aspects this year...
Latinx Zine Expo - this is a new part of this year's programming. It will be an area dedicated to the art of zines and its artists. It's curated by Scholar Comics creator, the superb Vicko Alvarez. That will be part of the Artisan Market on Saturday.
Another new aspect is the Artist Panels. We have three and they take place from 1-4PM in the new Welcome Center.
Topics include:Â
----> Keeping it local: Thriving in today’s Chicago Latin Music Scene/Community featuring - Bumbac Joe, Fausto Future Rootz, Jessica Rodriguez Braided Janes - Local ins and outs about thriving in Chicago, labels, venues, media outlets.
----> The Latin Music Renaissance: How Latinx Artists Are Redefining the Music Industry and Breaking Borders / Confirmed Panelists: Jaime Garza, Alex E. Chavez, Luna AfroRazones Moderator: Catalina Maria Johnson - How the Latinx community internationally is shaping the creative industries and demolishing traditional borders. How has this shaped record labels, the Latin explosion and what is next.
----> When Music is Gendered: Women and Non-Binary Artists Speak /// Confirmed Panelists: Caro Arroba, Chocolate Remix Moderator: Vicko Alvarez - Challenges and building more femme DJs & producers in the Latinx scene.
It's exciting and I love that LatiNxt is dedicating time not only to the performances but also to what else is going on with Latin music and its creators.Â

NEW MUSIC
It's another powerhouse compilation album that's coming out of Galletas Calientes Records from Colombia. This one is the London Luanda Remix Series by The Busy Twist.
THIS INVOLVES FOUR PARTS -Â
1. These are tracks released on Analog Africa which was founded by Samy Ben Redjeb from Tunisia who found African tribal music during his vinyl digs and decided to put out compilations based on these.
2. The second part involves THE BUSY TWISTÂ who are a producer duo from London. Their goal is to "cross sound boundaries and join the dots between Afro House, Kuduro, Latin and UK Bass."
3. The third part is obviously all the artists featured on this album, some whose music was never released and others were only released on vinyl. Today’s featured track is from artist Zé Da Lua and his song Ulungu Wami. (Released in 1973!!!)
4. And then... Galletas Calientes Records is the final portion of this, releasing the album as a compilation of some of this music, which was remixed by The Busy Twist.
The album is a tribute and refix of tribal and traditional African/Colombian music reworked and featuring collabs with bands/singers like Systema Solar, Ghetto Kumbe, Nidia Gongora and Palenque Records.
The album was released this week and you can find it on Bandcamp via Galletas Calientes Records.
Have a great weekend and remember - Enchufate!Â
