Weekend at the Beach

Last week there was a big holiday here in Portugal, meaning I was able to go to the beach with a few friends for 4 days of well deserved relaxation. 

I finished the first pair of the glover sock, which made me super happy. Still struggling with the german short row heel, but the process of learning something new is so exciting. I can't wait until I finish the second one. (Cast that on yesterday, currently working on the rib)

I also got to see gorgeous places and the beautiful and blue ocean. It was truly amazing to be so close to the nature and just spend hours under the sun doing absolutely nothing. 

On not so fun things: I have a bad cold and been coughing non-stop.

Hiking the Rota Vicentina

I realize that the focus of our website is the PCT. However, we tend to celebrate walking and hiking in general . . . this is one of those posts.

I just returned from walking 60 miles along the Atlantic Coast of Portugal along a trail known as the Rota Vicentina or Fisherman's Trail. The trail extends about 140 miles in 13 sections linking a series of small fishing villages and spectacular coastline and beaches. Although a few hikers do camp, most spend nights in hostels and hotels in the villages as we did. Most sections are 10 - 13 miles in length and have little elevation gain. The challenge is the amount of soft sand (see below).

Although many of the trails have been around for centuries, the linkage really began about a decade ago. Build it and they will come . . . and they have. While May (July and August are too hot) is probably peak season, I would estimate that several hundred were beginning each day. Mostly Europeans . . . but the word is spreading.

Com certeza você já se deparou com grandes leões de madeira Brasil afora e boas chances de eles terem sido feitos por essas mãos que aparecem nas imagens, naturais do sul de Minas. Os Julião ganharam notoriedade, sobretudo, pela produção iniciada por Itamar (1959-2004), em Prados: leões, árvores, pássaros, macacos e o que mais a imaginação instigar. Vicentina (1955) retrata cenas afetuosas entre bichos, esculpe travessos macacos com frutas na mão e capricha nos detalhes da flora local. Trivia:

Unique Magic: Slayer's Binding - Can control anyone with the slightest bit of blot to obey them. Obedience increases with the amount of blot in the individual. They simply have to just say a command and the blotted will have to obey. A mark will also appear on the blotted that will fade with time (depending on the amount of blot)

Their family were prominent members of The Solstice Watchers, however they have all passed. They carry their pocket watches with them (a symbol of the organization)

Has buried many who have died in overblots and will go to visit them on occasion

They are actually very emotional, but have learned to hide their emotions to avoid accumulating blot

They became a hunter when they were 7 but killed their first overblot monster when they were 15

They are hypercritical of Crowley because they do not want to bury more children

The closest they came to overblotting was when they watched their family die, that monster was the only one they didn't take a shard from

They never formally attended a school but are well versed in magic knowledge, combat and ancient spells

While close to those outside of the organization, they are distant to other hunters as they know the job can be deadly and so don't want to be close to feel more loss
