K-Mag Vegan?
Does anyone know if K-Mag is actually a vegan / still a vegan? It was mentioned in this poor excuse for an article (god I hate F1 "journalism" lol) a while back:
https://www.grandprix247.com/2019/10/26/magnussen-its-not-an-easy-sport-to-turn-green/
Just wondering if he's ever talked more about it or what the deal is. Does anyone know more about his deal in general (I've also seen mention that he's very pro paying his taxes, unlike...well...everyone else on the grid)?
I'm hoping maybe some lovely Danish tumblr users or some rabid K-Mag stans have more info.

why k-mag is a walking green flag and you should stan him:
devoted girl dad who puts his daughter over anything else. he said in an interview that he wanted louise, his wife, and laura, his daughter, to be at every race if possible, but they are also very focused on ensuring that laura is happy and healthy and if they feel like it’s too much travelling for laura or that she’s not thriving then they will change plans last minute. and when he got the offer to come back to f1, kev’s only concern was about the time he would lose out on with his daughter.
is either still vegan or was vegan due to concerns about the environment and as a way to balance his co2 emissions as he admitted that due to his job then he is guilty of higher emission than most people. in the same interview, literally one single interview with a danish newspaper back in 2019, k-mag came up with a few ideas on how f1 could become more green, but also said he was probably not going to talk much about it because he realised that he would be a hypocrite due to his job, so he was very much self-aware which is just another green flag. and he said that people who do not believe in climate change are stupid.
praises his competitors whether he wins or lose. after austin 2022, kevin lost out on 2 points to sebastian vettel after a heroic stint on his tyres in literally the last few seconds of the race. despite this, he was full of praise for seb in multiple interviews. and after jeddah 2023, he praised yuki for his excellence defence, but this time kevin was the one who came out victorious, but he made a point out of acknowledging yuki’s excellent driving. and both times he sought out his competitors right after the race to shake their hands.
defends his teammates if they are treated unjustly. both with jolyon and mick, there were times when the criticism was fair, but also times when it was too much and was more bullying. kevin tore renault to shreds for bullying palmer and talking shit behind his back, he said that while palmer was not the best racing driver, he was underestimated because he was so intelligent (and now palmer is an excellent f1 analyst! so k-mag was very right about that). he defended mick against his bosses several times and treated him well. there are also instances during races where he calls out competitors for dirty driving against his teammates.
got p2 on his debut race for mclaren as a 21-year old rookie. kevin started his f1 career with beating his former world champion teammate with 15 years of experience in f1 and while he lost out to him over the season, he did show great promise especially in qualifying which was considered one of his weaknesses. while qualifying between the two of them were pretty equal, k-mag managed to qualify 0.2 seconds ahead of button on average  ― which is the same time hamilton managed to beat button. kevin did all this... and then mclaren fucked him over, forced him to say no to a seat, but then demoted him to reserve driver, refused to give him a seat in another racing series before finally firing him from mclaren ON HIS FUCKING BIRTHDAY. so danny ric is not the first driver to get screwed over by mclaren.
worked as a welder before his big racing break due to lack of funds. as so many before him, kevin ran out of money as the sport got more and more expensive. before he even had the chance to turn professional, it looked like options of getting a seat anywhere would be impossible because no one could help him on his way financially. his dad, while a decorated racing driver, did not earn as much as you’d expect a racing driver to earn and he was super busy with his own career, so kevin got a job as a welder until suddenly a rich man from denmark decided to sponsor him. but this means that kevin knows what “real life” is like and he has continously respected that. his mechanics love him and he hangs out with them more than his fellow racing drivers. during the discussion about the number of races in a season calendar, kevin has refused to complain for himself and has always said that the victims of the long and packed season are the mechanics and engineers who cannot get home to their families as often. while he does admit being away so much is difficult, he also pointed out that he is travelling in business class and can get home between races, something the mechanics cannot.
raised by a single mother, who was also a teen mother, and he has several tattoos in her honour. when he was a teenager, his mum, britt, got ovarian cancer that unfortunately spread and for several years she battled with it to the point where the doctors did not think she would survive. but luckily they did not give up on her and britt ended up being free of cancer after many years of being plagued by it. in her honour, kevin has a guardian angel on his chest, the one who looked over his mum, and he also has ‘mum’ as a tattoo on his wrist below a tattoo of praying hands. kevin’s dad, jan magnussen, was in his life but is also a racing driver and only really settled down in denmark when kevin was already a grown teenager and had his own career, so kevin barely saw him during his childhood and jan himself has admitted their relationship is a relationship between friends than dad-son due to the lack of day-to-day parenting he did for most of k-mag’s life.
is a champion for girls. kevin has said the most important people in his life is his mum, his wife and his daughter. he is also personally mentoring a 14-year old female karting talent, alba larsen, to help her with her dream of becoming a professional racing driver. he has praised her devotion, passion and skill. he has gotten his whole family onboard, so now his dad is also helping mentor her while kevin is away, his uncle is a mechanic and helps her with her kart despite the fact that his younger brother, luca, is her competitor as he’s the same age and also does karting (kevin and jan are also training him, of course!)
managed to get pole last season in a haas. and on paper, it should not have been possible. even in the dry sessions, k-mag had a pace that cannot really be explained. according to f1 own analysis and data, the haas was, at the time, 1.35 second slower than red bull, but even in the dry sessions kevin managed to get within 0.5 second of max verstappen. and not only that, his pole lap was only 0.8 second off the lap max did in q2 despite the track being slippery. while circumstances worked in kevin’s favour, he also managed to beat seemingly impossible odds. the only true explanation for why kevin managed to do what he did is skill. ask yourselves what the time might have been if k-mag had been in the red bull...
is one of only a handful of drivers not to live in a tax haven. he went back to live in denmark for the first time since he was a teenager in 2020 after his wife got pregnant and will not be moving away from denmark again despite the high income tax for the sake of his family’s comfort and well-being. out of all his seasons in formula 1, he only spent 2 seasons living outside either the uk or denmark and he moved to an area where several danish athletes live due to better weather and better location for international travel.
is around the same age as his wife and she’s not a model. the bar is literally on the floor for male racing drivers, people. but at least k-mag isn’t one of them ― and by model then i mean the actual profession, there is no doubt that louise is gorgeous. also i have nothing against models, but it’s just such a cliché that rich racing drivers end up with them.
is a big fan of dinosaurs and space. look, these are the greenest flag interests that i can think of, he really is just a nerd. other drivers have interests like dj’ing, golf, fashion and collector of luxury cars  ― and then you just have kevin being like “idk i like space and dinosaurs” 😂

Hey I've been wondering if you ever had or still have cravings for non vegan stuff and how you deal with it?
I've been vegan for almost 9 years until this summer where I was weak and ate fish on vacation in Denmark. Fish or salmon in particular was always the one thing I really missed. Other meats or dairy, no problem.
The whole 9 years it worked, but somehow the thought of "fresh fish" at the sea appealed to me. And I'm so annoyed and disappointed in myself for caving because it wasn't even worth it.
As if the vegan gods saw me sinning I got food poisoning from that fish. And now just the thought of ... Not even eating just smelling it makes me nauseous and question how I ever could have liked that before...
So that's one way to deal with cravings. But do you have some non self-harming advice to trick yourself into not wanting it?
I think for me it also had a lot to do with the mindset that harming fish is not as bad as harming "real" animals. I know that's a stupid and illogical take and fish are indeed real animals that feel pain, but I still think on some level that's the reason why it was easier to eat it. Because when I look back at the 9 years I think anytime someone offered me non vegan stuff that isn't fish I was / still am repelled because my mind immediately goes to all the footage of documentaries I saw, like the vivid images and their eyes.
But when being offered fish ... I also think about the images of overstuffed nets and the horrible data about overfished seas, but it's not that close? And I remember distinctly like for myself the reason I always refused eating it was "I already cut out meat, dairy and eggs might as well not eat fish either" because then "it counts as fully vegan".
Like I am asking advice how to deal with that cognitive dissonance, because I am afraid at some point I will recover from my disgust of fish and maybe try it again (and maybe next time I won't get lucky to have food poisoning prevent me from eating it).
It bothers me because I never dropped eating fish out of conviction (not like the other non vegan stuff) but just because that was part of the vegan deal.
I’ve had the odd craving, but less for a particular type of animal product and more for a specific item, usually some sort of processed food I enjoyed as a child and don’t have access to anymore. It is nothing that has ever compelled me to even consider actually buying it, but cravings are different for different people.
I think that the best thing you can really do is invest some time into learning more about sea animals and the fishing industry more widely. They are complex beings who are really interesting, both in their behaviours and their biology. Familiarity is what fosters connection, but this is harder with fish and sea animals more generally because they don’t resemble us much, or express feeling/desires in ways we recognise. The only cure for that is to make yourself familiar with them.
You should do some research on the environmental and ecological impact of fishing, too. It is one of the most harmful foods you can eat in environmental terms, up there with beef and dairy. Salmon is particularly bad, because they’re massively over-fished and their population is collapsing rapidly. This has a massive impact on animals you may care about more, particularly sharks, seals, whales and other sea life. Keeping these facts in your mind and spending time to research and read about them would go a long way to helping you not see them as food.
Watch documentaries and read about fish and their inner lives, you’ll likely find out a lot that will really surprise you. I’d thoroughly recommend reading Other Minds by Peter Godfrey Smith, and An Immense World by Ed Yong. Both spend a lot of time discussing not fish specially, but molluscs, arthropods and generally less understood creatures. It may help you appreciate how complex and interesting creatures we traditionally view as ‘lower’ than mammals and birds can be.
Ultimately though, cravings are seldom so intense that they cannot be resisted. Even if you continue craving fish in the long term, there is no reason that craving should dictate your behaviour, and certainly not your moral choices. You may just need to exercise some restraint as well as doing some research, and this, like anything else, is something you can practice being good at.

Do you have any headcanons about Denmark?
Perky when it's warm out.
Will bike through a blizzard.
Happy drunk,
Very relaxed and friendly by European standards,
Occasionally play spars with Matt after Jan, Matt, and Magnus have had the blondest threesome just to re-traumatize and fuck up Arthur's entire day.
Sometimes they use plastic axes just to really season the old man's PTSD.
He rows for fun.
He and Berwald shatter beer bottles over each other's heads for old times' sake.
He tries to go vegetarian/vegan pretty often but always gets shit-faced and gets a kebab.
He's a cheerful, cozy type who it's really hard to believe looking at him now that he was once just primo Viking.
He will casually slap Arthur and Alasdair on the shoulder in a pitying way, like "Sorry I nicked all the pretty ones," and fuck off cackling like that's not a horrific thing to say.
He was a warrior poet, and he still has some of the old sagas stuck in his head and always wants to tell them when he's in the winter hygge mood.
Has a lot of very specific beef with Saxo Grammaticus.
Occasionally makes a remark to François about him sounding particularly Norman today just to put the fear of God in him.
Will occasionally pay for dinner, saying something like, "You got the last time." But the last time was 50 pounds of precious metals to pay the Dane-geld.

Nine People I'd Like To Know Better
@ronastudies tagged me to do this! thanksss <3 I wanted to be more active on tumblr again, so here I am :)
Last song I listened to: Porcelain by Moby (I have a 90's music thing going on rn)
Currently watching: something odd: Alene i Vildmarken, a Danish reality show about people who are set out in the wild nature of northern Norway - they have to survive as long as possible and the last one is a winner! :D
Spicy/savory/or sweet? EVERYTHING, but NEVER mixed! I hate sweet AND savory stuff. Either this or that, but I never say no to either of those options :)
Relationship status: I am happy and that's all that should matter to tumblr, heh
Current Obsession: the sun. It is visible in Denmark again, yay! And baking, sort of? I spontaneously decided to make a huge vegan Donauwelle yesterday. I've never done that before lol - oh and music! The Outfield?? <3
given my absence, I can't think of 9 people, but here are a few that come to my mind!
**DON'T feel obliged to do this if you don't want to!**
@journalsbyfacundo (idk if the blog is still active, but I found you while on the lookout for other geography blogs and I loved your content!) also @mysticalcollegestudent, the aesthetics and how cool is Meteorology?? @starrystvdy, I've followed that blog for such a long time :) @likeshestoleit because of the too relatable profile description heh

I had been pretty sheepish all day just trying to keep my head down maybe they forgot about me, Once the bell rang luckily I had model UN so I scampered there before I could get in trouble and sat in my UK-labeled chair.
"Okay, good afternoon everyone now before we move onto the current affairs of the day does anyone have any new business they would like to bring up?" Alby asks
Several hands raised
"Uhh okay, Yes Brazil?"
"Viva a revolcao!" she yelled and I glanced over
Brenda Young, the school activist and art freak never seen without paint on her hands and a soap box about something, I never paid her that much attention honestly just sort of saw her as a positive Karen I suppose, then again last year she did force the cafeteria to start at least stocking a vegan and vegetarian option for people thought four weeks of violent protests. they still haven't fixed the window and it still kinda of smells like chum around it.
she stood from her chair her hair cut short with a bright blue streak, her black clothes of net and leather a hand-drawn tattoo on her arm made of Sharpie,
"Brenda, I've told you before if you're not going to do this properly you can leave" Alby sighed "You can't call a revolution,"
"Fine" she pouted sitting back down
"Anyone else, Yes Eygpt" He says and she gets up from her seat
Harriet Toll, a fashion student and a sketchbook kept under lock and key, always wore the most up-to-date fashion trends and made the most of it as well. She didn't exactly like being here but the textiles room is closed on Thursdays and she doesn't get picked up till six so it's something to do other than sitting outside on the step.
"I know that this model UN is small and we are missing various countries but I cannot help but feel offended at the selection of countries" She explained
"I second that!" Brenda yelled, "The white boys are the rich countries and the rest of us are the countries with populations with the majority people of colour!"
"It feels -" Harriet began
"Racists!"
"Wouldn't you agree South Africa?"
"Humm? What's going on?" Fry yawns as he had basically been asleep since we got in here
"Calm down, calm down everyone, The assigned counties are assigned randomly," Alby says
"Randomly?" Harriet glared
"Completely randomly so sit down"
"Fine" she sighed sitting down again
"Anyone else" he sighed "Yes Denmark"
"What's up with the UK?" Zart asked as he clearly noticed me and the fact I'd barely spoken to him or anyone else today
"Is brexit making you sad?" Brenda laughed
"No" I sighed "I'm just a bit out that's all"
"Alright, now on to new business"
I left after the model UN was over starting to make my way out to go home when I saw three of those blue and white letterman jackets
"I don't like waiting, Newton" Ben yelled
"Fuck!" I complained trying to bolt as quickly as I could away but they caught up fast and threw me against the wall punching and kicking me
"The hell do you think you're doing nerd! You dare actually talk to a cheerleader? It would be funny if you weren't so fucking stupid!" He laughs "You are not to talk to her again, don't even look at her, not even think about her again, or I will cut your balls off and mount them on the flag pole, we clear Newton?"
"I can talk to whoever I damn want!"
"You wanna die! Let me explain something to you y/n is a cheerleader with a fat ass and tits that porn stars pay for, you are a scholastic decathlon, model UN, chess team little freakazoid. Now you will not do it again, are we clear!"
"Hey!" A voice came I could barely see as I likely had a black eye but I saw
Gally Anderson, cohead of the debate team, used to be the muscles of metal shop and woodshop until the school district cut the funding those rooms were gutted of equipment and turned into extra maths rooms and now were often stuck in the back of the art club making small wooden building sculptures while people like Brenda engaged in utter anarchy we used to be friendly but you drift Apart and all
"What's it to you? Art boy?"
"Leave the fuck alone before I knock those teeth down your throat, and we all know daddy paid to get them all nice and touched up for ya which you haven't paid off yet so unless you wanna root around your shit for those pearly fucks. Walk away"
"I'm -"
"I know what you're doing, everyone heard but she aint your girlfreind as I recall she Dumped your ass so fuck off home"
"Come on guys" he says heading to his car "I'm watching you newton!"
"You okay?" Gally asks helping me up and grabbing my stuff for me
"I think I'm dieing"
"Yeah he socked you pretty hard, we'll grab you some ice, come on I'll drop you home"
"Thanks man"
"No problem" he says taking me to his car and we stopped and he got me some ice for my eye and a bandage for my bleeding arm "I know what you did"
"Everyone knows apparently"
"I don't blame you, cheer girls are gorgeous, don't sweat it he'd have kicked your ass for being rude if you hadn't spoken to her"
"I don't get what his problem is"
"Dudes been butt hurt since she dumped him, still protective of her, he thinks because they used to date he owns her. Don't let it get to you" he says pulling up outside my house "You gonna be okay?"
"I think so, thanks gally"
"Don't worry about it, see you around"
"See you around" I nodded before climbing out and heading inside immediately to be met by
"Oh my god my baby!" She screams
"Mum I'm alright -"
"What the hell happened!" My dad yelled
"It's a long story"
Understandably my mother went crazy and I'd been sitting in the kitchen for over an hour while my parents paced and panicked, having replaced my ice and bandaged my cuts and bruises. when they finally let me go back to my room, so I headed to my bed Luckily I didn't have any homework or anything so I just crawled into bed and tried my best to get some god damn sleep.
When my alarm went off I forced myself up and quickly went for a shower Sonya was about to go in but she stopped short as she saw me
"What the hell happened to you?" she asks
"Don't. Say. anything." I warned her to go in the bathroom and lock the door tightly I put my music on as loud as possible ran myself a bath and climbed in trying to soothe my aching body, I took as long as I wanted in the bath, once done I went back to my room and got dressed for the day shoving my stuff in my bag even if It stung to add my bag to my shoulder and I headed downstairs to my mum and dad "Morning"
"Morning Kiddo, sit down and take your time with breakfast I'm taking you in today," he says
"You are?"
"Yeah, I want a word with the headmaster"
"Uhh okay" I nodded sitting down and my mum gave me as many strawberries, waffles, and french toast as I wanted "I'm happy to take the bus Dad"
"No, no. I want a word with him. phone doesn't do the same as turning up so If I'm going then I might as well take you"
"Why do I have to take the bus and he gets a ride to school!" Sonya yelled as she arrived downstairs
"And where were you while your brother was being beaten up like a 1930s gangster?'
"...at the movies with my friends"
"So you'll be taking the bus"
"Uuughhhh!' She yelled marching off outside
"You can take her too it's okay," I said
"You really should -" my mother began
"No, for once I'm not Bowing to that girl," he says finishing his breakfast he took my bag and we headed out to the car We started up and headed through the rainy streets he stopped for coffee of course and he even got me a few hash browns.
"So? Lead the way," he says I nodded and got out of the car he still carried my stuff for me as we headed into the still pretty empty school as the busses hadn't arrived yet I led him through the corridors to the headmaster's office but she wasn't here yet so we just sat outside. "You wanna tell me what this was all over so I have a little backing info?"
"I figured Sonya told you"
"She did but you know how your sister exaggerates."
"I was working, and the cheerleaders came in"
"All of them?'
"I think so, looked like all of them I don't exactly count them everywhere they go, Dad"
"Hu...I did"
"Did you?"
'When I was your age yeah, so?"
"So one of the cheer girls needed a hand with the slushie machine the cherry one always gets stuck so I pulled it for her we talked just casually while I did and told her I'd cover it. But clearly, people found out. I've been getting the cold shoulder from people all day because of it"
"Why? You did something nice for her?"
"Yeah, but she's a cheerleader. I'm...me. I can't talk to them it's like an unspoken law. So one of the track guys beat me up to teach me a lesson"
"And?"
"and lesson learned. I won't talk to her again" I sighed
"What's her name?"
"What does it matter They'll kill me if I ever even look at her again"
"Well tell me anyway"
"...y/n"
"Y/n. Cheerleader?"
"Yeah"
"Pretty?"
"Gorgeous,"
"Blonde?"
"Y/h/c usually with a little blue bow"
"Athletic?"
"As much as any cheerleader but... she's 'bottom of the pyramid"
"Oh, so she's got the hips and the thighs?' He suggested making a gesture with his hands and I nodded "I take it you have her the free slushie because you like her"
"Kinda, but what does it matter Ben will kill me if I look at her again. Not like I had a cat in hell's chance anyway'
"Why not? You're the most handsome boy in the world your mother tells you all the time"
"Dad. I'm me. I'm a nerd. I am as low as you can get on the totem pole except maybe Chuckie, the cheer team is at the top of the totem pole. I was being stupid"
"Hey, don't think like that, look Isaac. This stuff isn't some totem pole carved in stone or wood forever to be that way. It's more like... an elevator."
"An elevator?"
"Yes, an elevator. You might not see it but people are constantly moving up and down the levels Yes those at the top often don't think about the bottom and the bottom struggle to even imagine ever being at the top but no one stays in those places forever and believe me when you get out of here none of it would have mattered and you'll realize there never was an elevator you were all just living on the same floor convinced you had it better or worse when everyone else" he says "you know I was a pretty big nerd when I was your age Didn't stop me getting a firecracker like your mother. I was on the chess team, algebra club, top science student two years running and your mother was a flag girl"
"No offence but stuff is different nowadays it's not like them You were my age things have changed"
"...how old do you think I am?" He glared
"Well, I'm seventeen?"
"Yeah and I'm thirty-four," he says "AHH Miss Ava Paige just the woman I've been needing to see"
"Mr Newton of course step into my office," she says
I was kind of taken aback by what he said for a moment before I followed them into the office.

Plant-Based Surge: Egg Replacers Market Poised for $3.3 Billion Growth by 2029
Egg replacers are ingredients used in food products to replace the functionality of eggs. They are commonly used in vegan and allergy-friendly recipes, as well as in products targeting health-conscious consumers. The global egg replacers market size is projected to reach USD 3.3 billion by 2029 from USD 2.3 billion by 2024, at a CAGR of 8.0% during the forecast period in terms of value. The market for egg replacers is expected to grow, driven by innovations in food technology, increasing consumer awareness, and the expansion of plant-based and allergy-friendly products.
Egg Replacers Market Growth Drivers:
Rising Veganism and Vegetarianism: Increased demand for plant-based diets drives the need for egg replacers.
Allergy Concerns: Egg allergies are prompting the use of alternative ingredients.
Health Consciousness: Consumers looking for lower cholesterol and healthier options fuel the market.
Sustainability: Growing environmental awareness leads to a preference for sustainable and less resource-intensive ingredients.
Know about the assumptions considered for the study:
How Dry Egg Substitutes Are Expected to Capture the Largest Egg Replacers Market Share?
This is because dry egg substitutes have a number of benefits that attracts both manufacturers and customers. They are useful and also affordable because they have a longer lifespan, simple to store and transport, and moreover there is no need to be refrigerated. Dry egg replacements are very easy to work with and incorporate into a variety of recipes by simply adding water, so they may still be used in baking and cooking applications. The previously mentioned benefits create dry egg substitutes a favored option in the food processing sector, driving their significant expansion and dominance.
Asia-Pacific’s Egg Replacers Market: A Steady Growth Trajectory for the Forecast Period
The increasing urbanization in the Asia Pacific region and the rising middle-class population with higher disposable incomes boosts the consumption of convenience foods and bakery products where egg replacers are majorly consumed. The food industry push for sustainable and ethical sourcing is a major driver because like manufacturers, consumers also look to reduce the environmental impact associated with traditional egg production. Innovations in food technology have helped to develop egg replacers with the closest functional properties of eggs, such as binding, emulsification, and leavening, without any detrimental effect on taste or texture. A favorable regulatory regime that encourages government initiatives for betterment in food safety and quality standards indeed is encouraging for the adoption of egg replacers across the region. With multinational companies expanding further and increasing their presence, as well as domestic players entering the market, the competitive landscape also becomes dynamic enough to further give a boost to the growth in the market.
Make an Inquiry to Address your Specific Business Needs:

Exploring the Rapid Growth of Plant-Based Sources
One of the key drivers is the rising health and sustainability awareness on the part of consumers, with millions of people turning to plant-based diets daily in order to make a lesser impact on the environment and for all-around healthier lives. Second, plant-based egg replacers target many different dietary needs, from vegan to vegetarian and even those with an allergy to eggs, further broadening their market appeal. This demand is also being driven by the trend of clean labeling, through which consumers move toward products with simple and recognizable ingredients, and plant-based options are viewed as healthier with more of a natural feel. Advancements in food technology have significantly improved the taste, texture, and functionality of plant-based egg replacers, hence making the option considerably more attractive both for the consumer and the manufacturer. Of late, the trends—flexitarian diets, in particular—are gaining huge popularity among people who try as much as possible to reduce their consumption of meat and animal products without going into complete avoidance. And this forebodes an upsurge in the demand for plant-based alternatives.
Egg Replacers Industry Developments
In July 2024, Revyve launched a yeast-based egg replacement ingredient tailored for plant-based burgers. This innovation leverages their expertise in creating texturizing ingredients from upcycled brewer’s yeast.
In November 2022, Ingredion completed one-third of its $160 million investment plan, aimed at significantly boosting capacity for modified and clean label specialty starches across its global supply chain.
In September 2022, Puratos formed a partnership with food tech company Shiru to explore and scale alternatives to egg proteins for baked goods. This collaboration will enable Puratos to prototype new ingredients for various baked goods, with Shiru accelerating their market introduction.

Personal Care Products: Enzymes are increasingly being incorporated into personal care and cosmetics for their ability to enhance product efficacy and skin benefits.
Specialty Enzymes Expected to Capture a Major Enzymes Market Share During the Forecast Period.
Specialty enzymes are crucial in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, particularly in biopharmaceutical production involving monoclonal antibodies and gene therapies, where precision and specificity are vital. For example, proteinase K is commonly used in DNA and RNA extraction for genomic research, a field that has seen heightened demand due to advancements in personalized medicine and diagnostics. This segment of specialty enzymes benefits from substantial R&D investments and innovations. Companies such as Novozymes A/S (Denmark) and dsm-firmenich (Switzerland) are focused on creating novel enzymes with enhanced stability and activity tailored for specific industrial uses. A notable example is dsm-firmenich’s launch of Maxilact Next in May 2023, which improves lactose-free dairy production efficiency by 25% without compromising taste. Additionally, supportive regulatory frameworks for biopharmaceuticals and the rising incidence of chronic diseases that require advanced treatments further drive the growth of specialty enzymes, reinforcing their market leadership.

Plant-Derived Enzymes Capture a Major Share of the Enzymes Market.
Amylase, derived from barley and wheat, plays a vital role in the brewing industry by breaking down starches into fermentable sugars, enhancing both the efficiency and quality of beer production. In the juice and wine sectors, pectinase sourced from fruits such as apples and oranges is widely used to clarify beverages and boost juice yield. Plant enzymes are also essential in the expanding market for plant-based and vegan products. For example, transglutaminase from plant sources improves texture and binding in meat alternatives, addressing the growing consumer demand for sustainable and ethical food choices. This trend is reinforced by the increasing popularity of plant-based diets, which further drives the demand for plant-derived enzymes. Companies like Novozymes have made significant investments in developing enzyme solutions tailored to specific industry needs. In March 2020, Novozymes A/S (Denmark) launched Saphera Fiber, a plant-derived lactase enzyme aimed at increasing fiber content in dairy products while lowering sugar levels, catering to health-conscious consumers.
Enzymes Market Forecast: Asia Pacific to Experience the Highest Growth Rate
The Asia-Pacific region is poised for significant growth in the enzyme market, influenced by unique industry dynamics and regional trends. A major driver is the biopharmaceutical sector, especially in countries like South Korea and Singapore, where the demand for enzymes in drug manufacturing and bioprocessing is rising. These enzymes are vital for processes such as protein expression, purification, and modification, which are crucial for producing biologics like monoclonal antibodies and vaccines. Additionally, the burgeoning healthcare and diagnostic sectors in the region are rapidly increasing the need for specialty enzymes, particularly for diagnostic assays, genetic testing, and therapeutic applications, fueled by heightened investments in healthcare infrastructure and research. Moreover, the thriving textile and detergent industries in countries like Bangladesh and Vietnam present promising opportunities for enzyme manufacturers. Enzymes are increasingly utilized in textile processing for fabric softening, de-sizing, and denim finishing, as well as in detergent formulations for enhanced stain removal and fabric care. As these sectors evolve in response to changing consumer preferences and regulatory standards, the demand for enzymes is expected to rise sharply, establishing the Asia-Pacific region as a key driver of growth in the global enzyme market.

Yes! The Australian lamb industry does one every year. The same guy has been figureheading them and has been in all of them since the beginning of time (~2004) that one was I believe 2017.
Here's that ad:
youtube
All of the references are very fun across the board and yes there's a Jedi there, it is an official religion on the Australian census.
Other hits also include:
- The "First" fleet ad: An ad highlighting the multiculturalism and multicultural history within Australia and poking fun at colonial history
youtube
- The Vegan Contoversy Ad: An ad in which the Australian Special forces carry out a mission to bring all Australians overseas for Australia day back so as to enjoy a lamb Barbeque. They disrupt a dental surgery, kidnap Princess Mary of Denmark and torch a vegans house for being vegan. The discourse following this ad was intense.
youtube
- The Musical Ad: A West Side story-esque musical satire based on the divide of Australian politics that calls out the fact that it's a musical satire based on the divide of Australian politics
youtube
- The New Zealand ad: An ad highlighting Australia's consistent and total inability to keep a prime minister in power as well as the relationship with the neighbours
youtube
- Lambalytica: An ad detailing how chronically online the Australian population is and generally making fun of young people and phone users. This ad aired in January of 2020... little did we know
youtube
The Wall Ad: An ad detailing the divide between Australian states and poking fun at state border bans during lockdown. It features an older man eating lamb out of the hand of someone who reached through a sort of prison break gloryhole in a very trump-esque border wall
youtube
- The Un-Australian ad: My personal favourite. Refers to the arbitrary label of "UnAustralian" that is thrown around onto just about any general nuisance or just about anything considered abnormal tbh but also its very specific to the modern Australian zeitgeist. Eg. Beer - Australian, Upcharging - UnAustralian, Meat Pie - Australian, Eating a Meat Pie with Cutlery - UnAustralian. People disappear into the void when they do something Un-Australian.
youtube
So yeah, thanks for watching our campy little Australian meat industry campaigns. They're just like a little tradition here so I have truly no clue how they've breached containment
So Australia has a yearly tradition going back over 20 years, that every Australia Day we all gather round our screens to watch an ad for a certain product. It's so ingrained in our consciousness that the ads don't even really relate to what they're supposed to sell anymore, we all just know.
This year the ad broke containment, and non-Australians are having their brains melted by this bizarre tradition, so international followers, lets see if you can work out what this is trying to sell before the last few seconds.

New 365 Party Girl Who Dis
Turns out that the girl from Geneva who also got fucked over by EasyJet really, REALLY wanted to go clubbing.
Some time in late September I opened my instagram to an unnexpected message from her. An invitation to go to her place with some of her friends and to then go clubbing in Shoreditch.
Simultaneously, Anxious Greek Fairy, who is another PhD student in the same floor as me but in a different lab, invited me to her birthday party. Although we are always there in the lab late at night and on weekends, me and her have very different lifestyles. She does like to allow any thought to go through her head and therefore if she's not in the lab she is out partying. That being said, for her birthday I promised that I would go to wherever she wanted me to go, no exceptions.
As it turns out, her celebration would be on the same day as the invitation fron the Genevan girl's thing, but the venue wasn't chosen yet.
Three things made me torn:
I must always follow through with my promises and therefore had to go to the birthday no matter where it would be.
I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and go out dancing with that stranger and her friends to shake up my life for a bit for the plot (and because I felt a bit guilty for saing no to her twice before).
I'm not used to this and felt tired just thinking about the prospects.
One day before, Anxious Greek Fairy made up her mind and revealed that she also wanted to go to a club in Shoreditch. I checked the distance between this club and the Genevan girl's place and decided I could definitely make both happen but I would prioritise the birthday celebration.
But at what cost?
I had gotten back from Denmark on Thursday evening. It had been 4 days of intense networking and travelling around has absolutely killed me this year in general, but I got rest (as in, gently avoiding people like the plague) on Friday and hoped for the best.
I went to the lab on Saturday until around 6pm and the birthday girl was there. Of course she was. We have similar workaholic routines so she's always there in the weird times that I'm in. Always venting about science, experiments, people or things and occasionally having some coffee. You know, in this harsh academic environment you need to stick together (and she's just a very lovely person). She was more stressed than usual because of logistics of her plans (happens often but not to this level), and told me to join them in her place in Streatham before going to Shoreditch at 11pm.
I had to analyse data for a meeting with collaborators on Monday and to write an email ASAP about the exciting collaboration I got at the conference in Denmark, so I knew I most likely wouldn't have time to join her in Streatham and would see her at the club.
And before that I would go to the Genevan girl's place. Everything about this plan made me anxious. I only went clubbing once and it was in Frankfurt, on the New Year's Eve from 2020. Probably what caused the pandemic, as it was too much of a shift in the force.
I put on a very Berliner outfit and some acceptable make-up and left the flat to get to Shoreditch at 10pm. On the way there, birthday girl called me and said that this had been a misunderstanding, that people would arrive at her place around 10pm and she would only be in Shoreditch at 1.30am. Lord almighty, this somehow made my plan be way more feasible. She apologised but I reassured her that it was truly alright and that I had an idea of how to spend my time until then, explaning the whole plan. That managed to reassure her thankfully.
The Genevan girl and her friends were actually very pleasant. So was her flat, but this was her goodbye to it as she would soon be moving to Stratford. She put on some music, and we all spoke about Murakami novels, and some dubious fantasy novel that I've also read after the vegan witch told me she hated it (I call it "The Fairy Fucker Book"). I somehow overheard one Spanish girl whisper to someone else "I'm straight but Amadeus is so hot, Jesus Christ" and almost choked on my cheap Rosé wine. Really unbelievable stuff. After a while we headed to this club called Old Street Records and they decided to get an Uber to go there, although the journey wouldn't take long. They decided to put on music in the car, after asking for permission, and just straight up doing karaoke on the way there. At first I felt very sorry for the Uber driver and thought about how he should get a humongous tip, but the Genevan girl did one hell of a cover of Super Bass. Bro should feel grateful for the free concert.
I could feel that this club was more mainstream and that I was not as drunk as the rest of them, but still tried to have some fun dancing. I tried to stick to the group, and at times that I was alone I just had to avoid eye contact from a few sleasy guys and to elegantly slide away from them if needed. Around 1.30am I could not find the group anymore and had to go, so I texted my goodbye and danced my way through the crowd until I reached the exit and walked 5 minutes until the birthday club, Basing House.
This place was definitely more alternative, playing DnB just like the birthday girl likes, and there were people from a wider age range. They were also definitely using drugs, but everyone was more respectful. I had to wait 30 more minutes for the Anxious Greek Fairy to arrive, so I had a few shots and had a great time dancing. Briefly I considered not dancing away from certain people, sticking around for maximum 1 minute with each person before switching around or dancing by myself while I waited. It helped that people were respectful and decent I have to say, that made the 30 minutes pass by very quickly. When the birthday girl arrived with her crew, they were all beyond wasted. Despite that, she remained fully functional, as expected. We danced some more, I said hi to previous friends of hers that I met before in a jazz event that she invited me to. They were all from outside of academia but close to her friend circle from Sheffield, where she used to live. We took an angelic chaotic picture before continuing to dance.
Tumblr media
Clearly though, I was far more sober than the rest of them and by now was feeling quite tired so I said goodbye like a modern day Cinderella for the second time tonight, just in time to catch my magic pumpkin ride home (*cough cough* a shitty TfL bus *cough cough*). I got home at 4am fully sober, removed my make-up, had a shower, brushed my teeth, and had a lovely night of sleep. I had a surprisingly enjoyable time but this definitely cannot happen often. Apparently the Genevan girl's friends also liked me as they all tried to add me on social media, another shocking event to be honest, but a pleasant surprise.
Well, maybe I wasn't as sober as I remembered, since apparently I made an emotionally charged playlist on the bus on the way home. I chose to keep it though, for therapeutic purposes. I decided to see it as one more productive thing done this weekend.
Bisoux,
A (carefully) Audacious party girl
