Characters appearance in the books:

Well first thing, we need to remind ourselves that characters are described by Katniss. That means that she only gives descriptions of characters appearances when they are relevant, or she's trying to sort out the other person, or that person is very important to her. The Seam/merchant divide is pretty connected to this. Katniss isn't a prejudiced person, yet, she points it out EVERY SINGLE TIME. Blond hair, dark hair, light skin, dark skin. She talks about it all the time. I think it's mostly to show us how they usually don't marry outside their group. The only way for merchants to stay so blond, and so light skinned is if they don't marry with Seam folks at all. I don't think it's the physical aspects that keeps them apart, rather they are a visible sign of that separation.

Casting:

Ok, dont hate me. I love Jennifer Lawrence, as an actress. She is extremely talented. But she is not like I picture Katniss at all. The hair is easily fixed, and I can even ignore her skin tone, but her height and overall bone structure? I'm not saying they should have made her lose weight.* I'm saying they should have chosen a different actress entirely. Being small is a big part of Katniss. She is not a visible threat when she volunteers, no one even knows why she had a score of eleven. If I was in a death match with Jennifer Lawrence and someone said she had an eleven, I would not be surprised. Katniss is supposed to be small. Jennifer isn't small. She's not even medium sized, she is quite tall for a woman. Josh on the other hand, is short, and Peeta is supposed to be medium height. So you could say they took Peeta one step down, but they took Katniss two steps up, and that pisses me off. If they went with a medium height actress, she would have been more or less the same height as Josh. Her size to me is more relevant than her skin tone, because it's her size that really shows the real differences between Merchant and Seam. Merchants don't have an easy life, but they don't starve. Yes, she eats meat regularly, but she also almost starved to death, and she still eats less than she should, and she has no variation in her diet. She should have been small and thin. Someone like Sarah Hyland, Isabella Fuhrman, or Vanessa Hudgens, if you want to go with the whole olive skin tone.

I hate that they didn't give blue contacts to Josh. Seriously? it's like Buttercup color, it's not that hard to make it happen!

I'm not upset about Haymitch though. Particularly because they didn't dwell on his backstory. But if they did, then yeah, I need a Seam-looking actor for that.

Liam Hemsworth is spot on as Gale, though.

I think the differences between the Seam and Merchant looks would be more relevant if they dwelt on that in the movies, but they don't really talk about that in the first place, so I suppose it can be easily ignored.

Except for the main characters (P and K). I kinda want them to match the book descriptions.

*would it really be setting a bad example if she lost some weight for the movie? I'm not saying being underweight, just not look like she was a career. I mean, Josh and Sam had to build muscle to play their parts, isn't it the same thing? I don't know.

Do you have a positive or negative view of the word "spiritual"? Neutral with a dash of, “I really don’t buy it.” Who is the most spiritual person you know? Some celebrity I got to work with for one of my previous accounts. I once had dinner with her and she went on and on about her crystals and meditation and getting in touch with her soul, and I just had to politely nod my head and go “Ooh” and “Ahh” for like 3 hours. Don’t get me wrong lol it was a genuinely good conversation but not nearly enough to convince me still.

When was the last time you stepped foot inside of a church? ⛪️ Two Sundays ago. We attend church weekly, but I say two Sundays ago because I happened to be at a work event last weekend.

Do you regularly attend church? Why or why not? ⛪️ Yes. My mom is religious and takes the whole family to church. On my part though I ditched religion and stopped listening to the service since I was 10.

Have you ever been to a mosque? 🕌 I haven’t, but when I went to Malaysia which I believe is largely Muslim, I learned about the concept of prayer rooms and found it very fascinating. That was my biggest takeaway when we went to Legoland hahahaha it wasn’t even any of the rides or the LEGO exhibits :((

Have you ever been to a synagogue? 🕍 Nope. Judaism is relatively weak in this part of the world, so haven’t had a lot of exposure besides its ties to Christianity.

How many different medications do you normally take daily? 💊 I don’t take any.

What is the worst side effect or withdrawal effect that you've ever experienced from a medication? Feeling like death after each of my Covid vaccine doses and boosters. I felt like my skin was glass so I couldn’t move for like 12 hours.

Which medication(s) do you hate the most, and why? I never really hated any that I’ve had to take.

Which medication(s) do you feel have helped you the most, and why? I remember when I had my UTI in 2020 and the first doctor I went to (also a family friend) prescribed me medicine that did not do JACK SHIT, and I continued feeling like a corpse in the 2-3 days I was taking the medication. Angela’s mom who’s a pediatrician was worried sick about me and went ahead and gave me a different prescription, which worked in LITERALLY like half an hour. That was the closest to magic I’ve ever felt lmao; I continue to feel so grateful to her for the help.

What health conditions (that you know of) do you have? Scoliosis.

What are you allergic to? Grass, if anything. My skin feels irritated by it in the most random scenarios.

LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA

There's no denying the catchiness of Disney's "Encanto" songs, even if the movie itself wasn’t your favorite. Songs like "We Don't Talk About Bruno" dominated the Billboard charts. But who’s the person behind these hits? Let me introduce you to; Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is an American composer, playwright, actor and producer. One of his first compositions was the music for the musical “In the Heights”, which was a big hit. The success of this previous work, provided him with the experience and confidence to explore new creative avenues.

On 2008 he went to the White House poetry jam, and when he told the audience he was working on a Founding father’s rap musical, they laughed at him. Seven years later, Hamilton was released and became one of the most successful Broadway musicals of all time, grossing over one billion dollars. As Barack Obama famously said at the Tony Awards, "Who's laughing now?"

Lin-Manuel Miranda created Hamilton, writing the script, composing the music, and starring as Alexander Hamilton himself. Can you believe it?

After Hamilton many opportunities knocked at Miranda’s door, composing music for big movies like Moana and Encanto. Yes, you can see Disney was very interested on him. The company offered him a big deal to bring Hamilton to Disney +, introducing the musical to a global audience, and resulting a huge economic success for both parts.

By the other hand, Miranda also made a deal with Netflix, on this platform he transformed one of his plays into a movie; Tick, Tick… Boom! Starring Andrew Garfield and Vanessa Hudgens and also being his first time as a film director.

In conclusion, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s success is far away from “just luck”, being the result of his hard work, dedication and creativity. And we are all excited for what is he going to do next.

Been aware of the show all my life, thought the machines were cool as a kid but didn't care too much about the characters or story lol (in my defence I hadn't seen it, and probably wouldn't have had the patience to sit through a whole episode either). My dad would sometimes watch the reruns and my mum would joke that she has an island named after her and stuff so it was definitely a Thing.

Anyway, I watched the 2004 movie a year or so after it came out because this was height of the High School Musical era and me and my friends spied Vanessa Hudgens on the dvd when we were at the video shop 😄 Enjoyed it, moved on with life. I moved to Wellington soon after graduation and my parents came to visit me with my younger siblings and took us all to Wētā for the tour and part of that was seeing the sets. The guides were so passionate about the show, the sets were so inspiring and I left that tour buzzing with creativity and thought "I want more of this" and went and bought the first season of TAG to watch. I promptly forgot about it lol, but when I did eventually watch it, I loved it 😁 I've always been a sucker for the good guys! Hi Thunderfam!

Hey, so I know this will have been done MANY times before but for us newbies it would be fun to know how everyone got here!

So… I was a super fan of TOS in the 90s, tried and failed to build a Blue Peter Tracy island, pored through every annual and comic I could get my hands on. Saw small section of 2004 film and could not, so when heard there was another reboot I avoided it because I didn’t trust them not to ruin my childhood love.

Got into Nevermoor late last year, discovered tumblr, overlapped with @womble1 on Nevermoor things and followed a rabbit hole into a womble TAG fanfic which made me think… oh, maybe I should give that newfangled series a little look.

Sat down with 8 year old and said “there’s this thing that’s a remake of something I used to like, let’s see if it’s any good”. We were both hooked the moment Thunderbird 2 appeared out of the clouds - we’ve just finished our second run through all 3 seasons - and I realised there is a LOT of Thunderfam content to catch up on on here too which has kept me pretty busy :) at some point I’m planning to revisit TOS.
