As a photographer you can’t seem to help seeing things that maybe most people are not really paying attention to. It’s not that they are not paying attention necessarily but they just don’t see the things you see because it’s part of your job. I mean after all, that’s why people pay photographers. They pay for their and skill of seeing and creating images by using light, lines, shadows, reflections and other components all with the perfect composition.

Baby J | Tsawwassen Newborn Photographer
Step into the quiet, magic world of life with newborn baby J.
There is truly nothing like visiting a couple’s home in the first few days after their newborn baby is born. Oftentimes, it feels like you are be invited into sacred territory, a place where hardly anyone else has been, except perhaps immediate family members. Life is a little bit quieter, a little bit slower; everything and everyone revolves around this tiny new being. They are the centre of the…

Do you think they'll really take the children to Vancouver?
I'm torn.
No because:
#1 - Harry and Meghan both make a lot of promises they never keep and I see this being exactly that.
#2 - They both know that interest in Invictus Games is next-to-nonexistent - from the public, from the media, and from sponsors. And in the immortal words of Bob Iger, the Sussexes need Invictus Games more than Invictus Games needs them, and what better way to make Invictus Games need them than to show them what they'll miss? Cue the invisikids making their much-anticipated long-awaited public debut at Invictus Games and all the media just namedropping them garnered.
#3 - For all the PR they have about being perfect parents and having so well-behaved children, Meghan is too much of a narcissist to let people see that her children are normal. She likes keeping them from the public because then we have no choice but to believe the stories she tells us. If they bring the kids out, she loses control of the narrative(s) around them and she needs that control.
But yes because:
#1 - Harry really genuinely sees Invictus Games as his legacy and I think he's 100% serious about Archie "inheriting" it so for that to work, he needs to connect Archie to the organization sooner rather than later.
#2 - Every scheme Meghan's had for fame and fortune has totally bombed: Hollywood A-Lister, humanitarian, activist, feminist, politics, author, lifestyle brands, fashion influencer, foodie, American royal. All she has left is literally her children. And since it's pretty clear that Harry is the one who's put his foot down on those kids being photographed or used for publicity, if he's happy to finally let Meghan take the kids "out" at an Invictus Games event, she's going to be all over it.
#3 - Their stupid "anything you can do I can do better" game with the Waleses. Since William and Kate started "exposing" their children to public engagements and royal work from ages 4/5, of course Harry and Meghan will begin taking their kids to public engagements when they're 4/5 years old too.

Artist Research 8: Jennilee Marigomen
Jennilee Marigomen is a Canadian artist based in Vancouver. She currently is showing an exhibition titled "Sehnsucht" , a word originatin from German that according to the Oxford dictionary means 'yearning or wistful longing'. Marigomen explains how a friend introduced her to that word, and her interpretation of it, "A friend introduced me to the meaning of Sehnsucht, a German noun that represents the feelings about the facets of life that are unfinished and imperfect, paired with an intense longing for more ideal outcomes.". The work she shares that is included in this exhibition have an ethereal, misty quality about them that incites a feeling of...loneliness? There are hardly many human subjects in the work shown, but when they are shown, it is from far away, with their features getting lost, as they are engaged in their own world, their own moment. She utilizes her environment to create this sense of longing, despite the aesthetically pleasing visuals, there is a coat of melancholiness that covers them, creating that sense of Sehnsucht that she aimed for. I think she must have been very intentional in all her shots, unlike some street photography where there is a sense of movement and documentation, Marigomen's exhibition feels very fabricated and intricately designed, which I really appreciate and respect since it is masterfully done and achieves its goal. I want to embody some of that intentionality and creative process and vision.

NYLA DARLING is a MEMORY ARTIST and 29 years old. Originally from TORONTO, they have been with the circus for 5 YEARS. They look like VICTORIA PEDRETTI and possess the ability of MEMORY ABSORPTION. They are known to be GENEROUS, CREATIVE, and INSIGHTFUL, but can also be GUARDED, MISCHIEVOUS, and PARTICULAR.
CHARACTER THEMES: authenticity, self-expression, resonance, compassion, self-sacrifice, altruism
SUMMARY OF ABILITY: Nyla can absorb memories of another person through physical contact of their skin. She can sometimes project memories to others through touch as well. If given prolonged intentional exposure to someone, they can sometimes feel like they have vertigo. She's since learned to control her abilities.
BIO
Nyla Darling grew up all over, her parents always a bit flighty, taking them where the wind led. Her father was a wildlife photographer and her mother was a painter who did portraits and murals as they traveled.
Some of the work she did was in hospitals and she'd bring Nyla along with her. It was there that Nyla got her first glimpse of what people did to help others in a tangible way.
When she was 12/13, Nyla’s abilities manifested. It was hard to control it and her mom was the first person to give her a pair of gloves to prevent unwanted memories.
She turned to art during this time, sketching out memories she’d absorbed as a catharsis of sorts, like she was emptying her mind onto the blank page. It helped her adjust to her newfound abilities and refocus on her goals as the years went on.
Nyla ended up becoming a travel nurse, taking a page out of her parents nomadic lifestyle but also doing something she’s wanted to do since she was a girl, seeing nurses work as her mother painted murals on hospital walls.
With her abilities more under control the older she got, she was able to mostly execute her work without issue. But there were instances where she’d slip and work became harder. Sometimes she’d see someone with broken bones and bruises who claimed to fall down the stairs, but when she brushed their hands or took their temperature, she could see their memories of abuse come flooding through. Or she’d see the memories of people who hated hospitals because of their loss. The emotions that came with the memories could give her a headache sometimes too.
She would move to different hospitals over a few years post grad, traveling around Canada but her exhaustion grew. Nyla wanted to help people in a tangible way, but her abilities meant that she couldn’t fully be herself in doing so. She always had to come up with an excuse for knowing something she shouldn’t. Or for always knowing what questions to ask a potential victim. Nyla found the pressure of keeping her secret to be too much and after three years she took time off, trying to find a renewed sense of purpose.
Enter the Night Circus. One night outside of Vancouver, Nyla found herself in the black and white tents. They were there for five nights. A rare stretch of performances and Nyla went to everyone. She was captivated by the wonder of the place and that was something noticed by a scout. While they didn’t know Nyla’s exact gift to start with, they knew she was one of them and invited her to stick around and see what the Night Circus was really about.
She joined five years ago and works as a memory artist. Rather than trying to describe an effervescent, intangible memory in hopes of someone capturing it, people can share their memories with Nyla and she does quick but detailed sketches of said memory. Just like she’d done to help herself when these abilities first manifested.
People leave her tent with a tangible memory in their hands, drawn with expert precision, details picked up from the now shared memory.
And while her official nursing days are behind her, Nyla still seeks opportunities to help where she can, offering her medical experience to help around the circus as well. The Night Circus isn’t what she’d expected five years ago, but it’s the first time she feels like she can still help people in different ways, all while being who she really is.

The dramatic coastline, with its rocky outcrops and serene beaches, provides endless opportunities for that perfect shot.
2. Adventure at Your Doorstep: Whether it's the thrill of a fishing charter or the awe of whale watching, Ucluelet offers a plethora of activities that not only feed the soul but also provide incredible content for your Instagram feed. Blog Post #9 — Revised Rationales
Eunoia Superfood Chocolate: Infusing Ancient Greek Philosophy into Mindful Indulgence
The Challenge
Design a brand identity that reflects your values and personality. Create three packages for your product that communicate the benefits of your brand to your target audience. Ensure that the design of the packages are cohesive and visually appealing, and that they stand out on the shelves.
The Approach
I crafted the identity of ‘Eunoia,’ a Superfood Chocolate brand inspired by its Greek namesake, meaning ‘well mind; beautiful thinking.’ The brand revolves around the belief that what we consume internally reflects outwardly. Each chocolate bar is square-shaped, symbolizing balance, and individually wrapped to encourage mindful consumption.
What I Did
In designing Eunoia's packaging, I focused on three core values: environmental commitment, heritage, and innovation. I ensured the packaging seamlessly fits into boutique stores while still standing out in grocery stores through minimalist colours and typography. Hand-crafted illustrations and eco-friendly materials convey the handmade quality of the chocolates, with affirmations on the packaging reinforcing the brand's message.
In essence, Eunoia isn't just about chocolate; it's about promoting mindful nourishment and positivity, encouraging consumers to embrace a holistic well-being lifestyle.

Vancouver Island Univesity: Embracing Island Charm with VIU’s Holiday Collection
The Challenge
Design graphics for self-selected merchandise inspired by ugly Christmas sweater patterns using the Vancouver Island University branded colours. The design should appeal to students to wear themselves or give as gifts, since the merchandise will be sold in the VIU Bookstore on campus.
The Approach
I began my creative process by immersing myself in ugly Christmas sweater designs, meticulously sketching out my concepts on paper. While these designs traditionally overflow with intricate details, I opted for a more restrained approach, focusing on a limited colour palette and recurring patterns and symbols to avoid veering into tacky territory.
In order to resonate with VIU students, I went on a brainstorming journey, mapping out the essence of our campus community. From this exploration, I picked key elements such as orcas, waves, anchors, snowflakes, rabbits, and trees to feature prominently in the design.
What I did
I crafted the patterns and illustrations using small squares, arranging them to mimic the cozy, hand-knit texture reminiscent of traditional Christmas sweaters. For the final product, I opted for sweatshirts in neutral tones such as light grey and dark navy to evoke a timeless appeal. Additionally, I envisioned the design adorning a mug, adding an extra layer of coziness and VIU charm to any outfit.

Kid Sister: Reconnecting with Your Inner Child through Frozen Delights
The Challenge
Design a print and email newsletter that communicates the brand identity effectively while engaging the audience. Ensure a cohesive visual experience across both mediums, maintaining clear and consistent branding elements. The newsletter should reflect the company’s values, tone, and aesthetic, while delivering valuable content across four sections.
The Approach
I first conducted a brand analysis on Kid Sister, uncovering their mission to reawaken the inner child with seasonal organic ingredients sourced from family-owned farms. From this analysis, I created a moodboard to capture the essence of Kid Sister's warm and inviting branding, incorporating pale yellow, green, and orange hues and child-like illustrations.
What I Did
Illustrations were kept simple utlizing a monoline style, with four main typefaces incorporated, including a vintage baker-inspired font and a handwritten script. There are halftone texturized photographic visuals in a punchy pink and orange for a summer vibe, and quirky elements were added, such as gingham patterns, banners, and polaroids to enhance the brand's fun and carefree image. Despite the playful content, I still aimed to maintain clarity and consistency through carefully arranged layouts following a grid structure.

Shooting with nutritionist Rosina Vecchio, was a fun experience. The goal was to capture images that not only showcased her personality and expertise but to promote her approach to food and nutrition. There was a bit of work on her part leading up to our photoshoot (vancouver fashion photographer) with food preparation but also to bring a range of fruits, veggies, ingredients and props. Here are some of thing I go over with clients when planning a personal branding photoshoot.

Baby W | Tsawwassen Newborn Photographer
I love it when a newborn rewards me with every single facial expression imaginable in a session!
Many newborn photographers will tell you that babies need to be 2 weeks old or younger for a successful newborn shoot. Not me! Because I focus more of lifestyle images, rather than “posed baby in a basket” images, I’ve done newborn sessions from age 5 days old to 3 months. All I’m looking to capture are beautiful, meaningful images from the first few weeks of your baby’s life, and that can easily…

Navigating the Expenses of Canada Study Visas: A Comprehensive Guide.
Canada is an increasingly popular destination for international students due to its excellent education system, diverse culture, and stunning natural beauty. However, planning your studies in Canada requires a thorough understanding of the expenses involved in obtaining a study visa. In this blog, we’ll break down the costs associated with the Canada study visa process and offer tips on how to budget effectively.
1.Study Permit Application Fee
The first expense to consider is the study permit application fee. As of September 2021, the cost of the study permit application is CAD 150. This fee is non-refundable and must be paid when submitting your application.
2. Biometrics Fee
International students applying for a Canada study visa are required to provide biometric data (fingerprints and a digital photograph) as part of their application. The biometrics fee is CAD 85 per person. Keep in mind that this fee is subject to change, so always check the Government of Canada’s website for the most up-to-date information.
3. Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC)
For students applying under the Student Direct Stream (SDS) category, the purchase of a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) is required. A GIC is an investment of CAD 10,000 in a participating Canadian financial institution. This investment serves as proof of the student’s financial ability to cover their living expenses while studying in Canada.
4. Tuition Fees
Tuition fees for international students in Canada can vary widely depending on the institution, program, and level of study. Generally, tuition fees can range from CAD 15,000 to CAD 40,000 per year. It’s crucial to research the specific tuition costs for your chosen programme and institution and budget accordingly.
5. Living Expenses
The cost of living in Canada varies depending on the city and lifestyle choices. On average, international students should budget between CAD 10,000 and CAD 15,000 per year for accommodation, food, transportation, and other daily expenses. Remember that living in major cities like Toronto or Vancouver can be more expensive than living in smaller cities or towns.
6. Health Insurance
Health insurance is mandatory for international students in Canada. The cost of health insurance can range from CAD 600 to CAD 900 per year, depending on the coverage and insurance provider. Some provinces offer provincial health care coverage for international students, while others require students to purchase private health insurance.
7. Language Tests
To apply for a Canada study visa, you must provide proof of language proficiency in either English or French. The cost of language tests, such as IELTS or TEF, can vary, but expect to pay around CAD 200 to CAD 300 for each test.
8. Airfare
Don’t forget to factor in the cost of airfare to and from Canada. Airfare costs can vary widely depending on your country of origin, time of year, and airline. Be sure to book flights well in advance and search for deals to find the best prices.
Understanding the expenses associated with a Canada study visa is crucial for effective budgeting and planning. By considering costs such as application fees, biometrics, tuition, living expenses, health insurance, language tests, and airfare, you can create a realistic financial plan for your Canadian study adventure. Keep in mind that costs may change over time, so always check the most current information and be prepared to adjust your budget as needed.
