This is the second episode or strip of VVS Akulalem. In this strip the adults get drunk and set up a water slide in the middle of the night. The kids want to play and the adults insist they go to bed.
This is another story taken from childhood. Please excuse the rough drawings I’m a better writer than an artist.
VVS Akulalem: Kid Free Zone:
Veronica’s house night: It’s a warm summer night in Australia. The children Veronica, Emily, Sweets and James are supposed to be in bed, but can’t sleep. Their parents are outside drinking and taking turns on a water slide in the backyard.
The kids want to join in on the fun:
Veronica: (Watching from the window): Why did they set up the slide without us?
Emily: (Sighs): Adults suck. I bet they won’t let us play. (The adults can be heard laughing and having a good time).
James: (Wide awake. He yells out to the parents): Can we play too?
Belinda: (Karen is taking her turn down the slide): No! Go to bed! (James is disappointed).
Veronica/Sweets: (Simultaneously): But, we can’t sleep!
David: Try.
Sweets: (Looks longingly out the window with the other kids): Please? Can we play on the slide?
Parents: (All): Go to bed! (David passes around another round of beers to the other adults. They’re fairly wasted by this point).
Veronica: (Annoyed): How can we sleep with all the noise? How come you guys can have fun in the middle of the night and we can’t. (Watches her mother take a turn on the water slide).
Sweets: (Looks at the clock on the wall behind them. It says it’s 1am): You may as well let us play because we’re not going to bed.
Karen: (Sternly): Go to bed young lady!
Kids: (All): But we want to play!
Veronica: It’s hot in here. We need the water to sleep.
David: Run a cold bath then go to bed!
Veronica: (Pissed): That’s not fun. We want to play on the slide.
Belinda: (Sternly): Go to bed. Don’t make me come in there! (The children groan and reluctantly go to bed).
Veronica’s house day: It’s early the next morning. The adults didn’t go to bed until 4am. They’re incredibly hung over after a night of drinking. The clock reads 6am and all the children are awake):
Sweets: (Pissed): We gotta get them back.
James: How do we do that?
Veronica: (Her stomach growls. They haven’t had breakfast yet): We could get the pots and pans and make a lot of noise to wake them up. They did it to us last night. (Sweets gets pots and pans from the kitchen cupboard. They run down the hallway banging pots and pans together screaming as they run).
Belinda: (Hears the noise. Her head hurts from drinking too much. She groans and rolls over. She tries to drown the kids out with a pillow. It doesn’t work because they come into the room banging pots and pans while screaming for their breakfast). Enough with the noise!
Veronica: (Smirking): We’re hungry.
David: (Sarcastically): Hi Hungry, I’m David.
Emily: (Ignores him): I want breakfast.
Belinda: (Groans and rolls over): Make your own.
Veronica: (Veronica and Sweets bang their pots and pans. Belinda can’t escape the noise): We’re children. We don’t know how.
Sweets: If you didn’t want so much noise in the morning you’ll let us play on the slide next time.
Belinda: (Groans. She relents and gets up to make them breakfast). Fine, but any more noise and you’re all grounded.

VVS Akulalem
This is an original work created by my friend and I. As I get better at drawing I hope to make full comic strips or episodes. VVS Akulalem is South Park inspired.
If it appears 90sesc, that’s because it is. I grew up in the 90s in Australia and as I mentioned before most of the stories are childhood based.
Eventually the Australian characters will move to the US where they will have trouble and ultimately refuse to assimilate. Even though all characters speak English their is still a language barrier because anything the Australian characters say to American characters makes no sense. The cultural differences will be obvious and the main girls will have cultural shock issues throughout the series.

This is my original work for a cartoon idea that’s South Park inspired, but the stories are from my childhood. In this strip my friend and my sister who these characters are loosely based on have sharpened their fingers with this being the end result
Screenplay below for more context:
VVS Akulalem – Pencil Sharpener Disaster:
 Cast:
Karen
Sweets
Belinda
Emily
Camera zooms in on a young girl and her mother. They’re walking to a friend’s house. Sweets isn’t pleased that her friend is at pre-school and she doesn’t want to play with Veronica’s little sister.
Sweets: Can’t I just stay home and play PlayStation? I’m not gonna go anywhere.
Karen: (Annoyed): You’re ten-years-old. You can’t stay at home by yourself even though I’m only gone for a few hours.
Sweets: (Sulking): Veronica’s at pre-school. I won’t have anyone to play with!
Karen (Exasperated): Emily’s home. You can play with her.
Sweets: (Whining, bordering on tantrum): But, she’s too young and we don’t have anything in common!
Karen: (Getting angry): You’re staying at Belinda’s for the afternoon and that’s final. I don’t want to hear another word about it.
(They arrive at Belinda’s house. Karen knocks. Belinda opens it and ushers them inside. Emily is on the living room floor playing with pink, white and purple leggos).
Karen: (To Belinda): Thanks for taking her on such short notice. Nobody else was available.
Belinda: It’s alright. With Veronica at pre-school Emily’s bored. She could use someone to play with. (Emily hears this and smiles. She ushers Sweets over and shows her the leggo set while the adults talk.
Karen: (Waving): By Sweets, be good. I’ll pick you up in two hours. (Sweets glare at her mother behind her back as she leaves. Belinda goes into the kitchen to make the girls some lunch).
Veronica’s house day: The girls have had lunch and they’re bored. Sweets sighs because there’s nothing to do without someone her own age to play with. She picks up a pencil sharpener and looks at it. Smiling she puts her finger in the pencil sharpener and sharpens her finger to a point. Smirking she pokes Emily in the ribs with it. She cries. Sweets laughs. Sweets goes outside and pokes people passing by. She laughs when they wince or yelp in pain.
Emily yawning snaps her out of her daydream. Sweets decides to sharpen her finger. She doesn’t achieve the same result she did in the daydream. She tears the skin and winces with pain. Sweets is disappointed.
Emily: (Has been watching Sweets with fascination the whole time.) What’d you do that for?
Sweets: I was hoping for a pointed finger I could poke people with.
 Emily: (Curious): Does it hurt?
Sweets: (Smirks and passes Emily the pencil sharpener): Not at all.
Emily: (Takes the pencil sharpener from Sweets. Looks at it nervously. Hesitates for a few seconds before sharpening her finger. It hurts. It really hurts. Emily’s eyes water. She cries. Loudly): Mum! Mummy! Mum!
Sweets: (Panics because she’ll get into trouble. Tries to calm Emily down, but it doesn’t work). Shh. Shh. Emily! Shut up, you’ll get us in trouble. Shh! (Belinda enters to see what all the commotion is. She sees the bloody mess and Emily crying and is instantly angry. Sweets is in trouble and she knows it).
Belinda: (Angry): What the hell is this? (Sweets stammers. She can’t explain herself. Belinda leaves to get the first aid kit and patches them both up. A few minutes later and Karen arrives to pick Sweets up).
Belinda: (Shows Karen the carnage): Look what your daughter did?
Sweets: (Petrified). Uh oh! (Emily has calmed down a bit, but her eyes are welling up with water).
Karen: (Exasperated. Takes her daughter by the hand and turns to leave): Come along. Time to go home. You won’t be playing any video games for quite a while. (Sweets is pissed at Emily. She glowers at her as they leave).
 Sweets: (Pissed) Aw! Fudgecrammit!
