A familiar thrill skitters down my spine as her glare narrows on me. Then I smirk, because I know exactly what to say to piss her off even more. “Are you talking about yourself?” I ask, unable to help myself. “From the looks of it, you’re still five foot nothing.” “I can’t stand you,” she sputters, crossing her arms and glaring. I lean in more, let the smirk fall away and replace it with something a little colder. It’s time to wrap this up. “Don’t you worry, Sorrengail, the feeling is absolutely mutual.”  It’s not, but I want her out of here, and this seems like the best way to accomplish that. I need her pissed off and more-than-ready to never see me again.  “Now, can you wrap up your tantrum so I can get back to winning an election?” I glance back in Liam’s direction, where he’s wide-eyed and slightly horrified, no doubt because his plan has failed. I look back to Violet. “I have better things to do than stand with you and your friend while you bitch out Mairi over here, so wrap it up.”

so I finally read fourth wing!! (I've not yet read iron flame so no spoilers please 🥹) definitely did not see that ending coming. also, I get the Xaden hype this man is delicious 🤌🏻

I wanted to ask if you could share some violet×xaden fanfics that include only the first book or au but none that include any info about iron flame 🤭 I'm so excited to start book2 but first I wanted to read some fanfics 🥹

I didn't want to search the ship here or on ao3 in case I came across some spoilers which im sure I'll since iron flame came out last year

I knew Xaden would get your heart 🫶 I’ve been having a hard time knowing what to recommend that wouldn’t include spoilers for IF bc I’m second guessing every little detail lmao, I’m still a little indecisive!

Here are some suggestions,

* Macchiato by @skyfallscotland - one of the first modern AUs I’ve read in the fandom and I love it so much!!

* In Too Deep by the same author it is such a wonderful AU

* On the road again by @widebrimmedhatsblog - absolutely delicious!!

* Violet Sorrengail’s Guide to spinning a scandal by @caeli0306 - I am in love with this one it’s not even funny it’s SO so good

* Ruin me by @witch-and-her-witcher - love love love!!

* @justallihere is THE author to read in the fourth wing fandom, and you should start by her masterpiece Storm in the quiet. Make sure to check out every single one of her works they are *amazing*.

* @skyfallscotland - All of her other works are amazing too!! You can also fall in love with her wonderful OC.

* @widebrimmedhatsblog - Another absolute gem of the fandom!! I was debating on whether to include Nights-Verse but I honestly can’t remember if some of the plot could be a little spoilery for IF to you (?) and I haven’t yet delved into In the Heat of it All but I am so excited for this one!!

* @caeli0306 make sure to check out her other works as well!! I absolutely love Castles Crumbling but I’m not up to date with it at the moment.

* There’s also Political Gain by Sarahkwut though I didn’t read the ending yet.

There are SO MANY other authors in the fandom and so many good stories too!! I’ll admit it’s been a little while since I’ve read anything fourth wing so I’m not up to date AT ALL and I’m probably not the best person to ask but I hope this helps anyway!!

1. How many words did you publish on AO3 in 2024?

54,629… all since October 30th 😆

2. How many fics did you complete this year?

Two one-shots: Turn on the Radio (my post-election venting piece) and Memories Consume (my Solstice Exchange fic for the incomparable @sarcasticmothwrites)

3. How many in progress or ongoing fics did you start this year?

Only one: My multi-chapter rock band AU, Navarre Records Presents…

4. What was your favourite thing you wrote?

Oh man, this is so difficult. Even though, Navarre Records Presents… is my baby and first love, I absolutely adore my Solstice Exchange fic, Memories Consume. It was my first time writing in canon and I got to explore a few signet and venin theories as well as focus on two non-Riorgail ships (Imrrick and Brennaolin).

5. What piece was your most experimental or different from your usual style?

Definitely Memories Consume. Canon, Dragons, Magic, Smut… all of that was new for me when I wrote it 😁

6. Did any fics surprise you - either while writing or their reception?

Navarre Records Presents… It is the very first thing I ever published and I thought maybe five people would read it 😂

I also thought maybe it would have 10 chapters… but I just posted chapter 8 and these rock stars still have so much left to say 🥰

7. Do you have a fic you wrote and loved that went under the radar? (This is your sign to reblog/repost it!)

I don’t think so? I only have the three so far and some 🏴‍☠️ drabbles (IYKYK) that live only on the RQ discord server—come join us over there, it is so fun!

8. Who is an artist that inspired you?

@lunatrixart, @essjaywrites and @jmoonjones for Empyrean works. And a special shout out to @copperfirebird who has created fanfic inspired merch for several of us ❤️

9. Who is an author that inspired you?

There are too many and I am sure I am going to miss some of my favorites either here or in the next answer but here goes… I will read absolutely anything posted by these awesome writers: @suebswrites (I think Just Ask was one of the first fanfics I ever read), @yanny-77 (the undisputed Queen of Comedy), @skyfallscotland (I never thought an OC would be my thing, but damn I love Remi), @justallihere (Storm in the Quiet was a masterpiece), @ubiquitouslyme (I think Here for the Video Games was my first time reading M/M smut and 🥵), and @caeli0306 (castles crumbling is so fun and VSGTSAS was 🧑🏻‍🍳💋)

10. Who is a new author you discovered?

There are so many writers from the RQ discord that just started writing fanfic this year (like me!) and we have so much fun playing with the same source material in very different ways… I have really loved reading and learning from @saranova, @tegantales @thoughtsaboutshows and @overjoyedisland

@lovemedarkly29 also gets a very special shout out because she not only wrote me an AMAZING Sloane/Aaric fic for the Solstice Exchange (Rewritten), but she then took the back-up idea that she had for me and made it into an amazing Violet/Liam fic (Use Somebody).

11. Did you do any collaborations? How did it start?

I have not collaborated, but I do have a wonderful beta, @june-s-pumpkins, who has made my writing better and gives me so many great suggestions that have resulted in some of my favorite lines 🫶🏻

12. What accomplishments are you proudest of?

Hitting post on my first chapter of Navarre Records Presents…

I never thought of myself as a creative person (my husband has always been the creative one!) and I guess I just needed the right inspiration (thank you Rebecca Yarros for writing such inspiring source material!).

13. What did you learn about writing or creating this year?

If you aren’t feeling inspired, go read or spitball silly things on discord or (for me at least) go for a run… inspiration will come and cannot be forced 🥰

14. Any advice you’d like to share with new or aspiring writers?

Write what sparks joy and trust that if you love it, there is likely an audience for it!

15. What are your creative goals for 2025?

Finish Navarre Records Presents… I have the main events outlined and would like to see the story fully come to life 🎸🎤🥁

Other than that, I really want to write more in canon… depending on what Onyx Storm brings us, either alternate POVs or, if I am feeling really inspired at the end of it, my own continuation story 😳

Oh hey! XRGTSAS is back! Sorry it took so long! For those who are unacquainted with our favorite political idiots, please read Violet Sorrengail's Guide to Spinning a Scandal before reading XRGTSAS, as there will be missing scenes and context if you don't.

Summary:

Xaden Riorson - savvy businessman, senate candidate, rising political star - has many problems. One of them being Cat-sized.

Enter Violet Sorrengail - hotshot political crisis consultant, former college classmate/rival/flirtation/frenemy, general distraction when he can't afford one. His burgeoning political career depends on her making sure fake stories don't make it into the press. One minor problem - she hates his guts, which doesn't make pulling off the biggest spin of the election cycle any easier.

Xaden never could get a grasp on where Violet's animosity towards him came from, even though now he's certain it's deserved. But after years of separation, he quickly learns that some fires haven't cooled - for either of them. And it doesn't take long for him to realize that the thin line between love and hate that's always seemed to separate them is disappearing faster than the time to Election Day.

The phone rings three times before Liam picks up the call.

“Whatisit?” His words carry the heavy weight of sleep, and I can barely make out what he said.

“Give me Sorrengail’s number.” The demand is growled out, as if there’s a subconscious part of me that’s still resisting asking her for help. I haul myself to my feet, padding over to the enormous windows. There aren’t many cars down below, the hour still late – or early, depending on how one looks at it.

There’s a pause on Liam’s end, the sound of shuffling as he sits up.

“What?” he asks. Another pause. “It’s 5 in the morning, dickhead. What’s so important that you need to call her now?”

Fuck, nothing’s easy, is it? I rake a hand through my hair. Maybe I don’t need Sorrengail. How hard could it be to get Cat to back down once again?

The thought barely forms before I’m squashing it. That kind of thinking – with my pride and ego rather than my brain – is what got me in this situation in the first place.

“And, just asking because I’m curious, are you fucking said candidate?” Rhiannon. It hits me like a bolt of lightning – they’re talking about me.

“No!” Violet says, voice rising. I smirk, stepping into the doorway. Neither of them notice me. I immediately zero in on the embarrassed flush that’s creeping up Violet’s neck. God, she’s beautiful. “You’re delusional for even asking that.”

Rhiannon grins, slow and implicative. “You can deny many things, Violet Sorrengail, but you can’t deny the chemistry you two have.”

“Just-” Violet’s soft voice tears me away from my thoughts. “Don’t kiss me,” she whispers. “On the lips, I mean. Everything else is fine.”

Everything else? She doesn’t know how dangerous that statement is. My brain begins going down increasingly inappropriate pathways. There are so many ways I could touch her without kissing those pretty lips. What would it take to make her cheeks even redder?

No. I give myself a mental shake. I’m entering dangerous territory. Violet is a temptation, and she’s one I cannot give in to under any circumstances. The consequences would be disastrous. Of that, I am sure. Not to mention she didn’t even want to do this in the first place. Even thinking about doing more with her than is absolutely necessary seems wrong, like a betrayal of her trust – not that she has any for me anyways.

ok I KNOW I said the last chapter would be done today... but im tired and frankly it needs a solid copy read and more edit time before I'm comfortable posting it and I want to go to bed lol. since its the last chapter I really want to make sure its good and that I've tied up all the loose ends that need tying before I put it into the world. “Violet?” he mutters, voice rough with sleep. “Good morning,” I respond, my hand moving to his tattooed arm. “I have coffee for you.” “Black?” “Obviously.” He shoves his face back into his pillow. “What time is it?” I glance at the clock on my bedside table, then back at him. “About 7:30.” He curses, then uses his arms to push himself upwards. The sheets fall away, and I’m greeted with the sight of his muscular chest. My mouth waters, because damn. I deprived myself of this for a year? Un-fucking-believable.  Xaden catches my eye, and smirks. “It’s a little early to be looking at me like that, Violence,” he says, his voice still low and rough from lack of use. I don’t miss how his own eyes have flickered down towards my mouth. I immediately feel flushed, and not in the bad way. Oh, the things I want to do to this man. “It’s never stopped you before,” I point out. My voice sounds a bit breathy even to me. “I seem to recall a very interesting meeting in my office in New York back during the campaign that would be proof of that.” “Don’t tempt me,” he warns as he swings his legs over the side of the bed. I scoot to the side so he has room, but he merely follows me, our thighs pressing together. “You say that, and yet you keep putting yourself in situations to be tempted.” I raise an eyebrow in his direction. Xaden laughs, and leans down, pressing his forehead against mine.  “Maybe,” he admits. “But I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

Liam’s eyes widen. “No fucking way.”

“Way,” Garrick nods sagely.

I clear my throat. “We’re here to work, not gossip,” I snap.

True to form, Garrick ignores me.

I grin, despite myself. Liam’s little sister is basically my little sister, at this point. “Hi Sloane.”

“That’s better,” she huffs. I pull away from the curb and point the car downtown. Traffic, I’m quickly realizing, is more disgusting than usual for this time of day. I tug at the tie of my suit, loosening it. “So, Sorrengail, huh?”

My grin melts into a grimace. I grip the steering wheel a little tighter. Of course, that’s what this is about. “What about her?”

I set her down when she begins to squirm, even though I would love nothing more than to keep her exactly where she is and hope the person on the other side of that door takes a hint and goes away. Violet begins smoothing her hair and rumpled clothes, muttering as she does, but her efforts can’t conceal the fact that she’s been thoroughly kissed, that moments ago her hair was wrapped in my hand. I merely cross my arms and watch with a little too much satisfaction.

“Does that mean there’s a time for it later?” I ask huskily. I hope so. I’ll make time if there isn’t.

“Oh, this is going to be good.” He takes a step back, uncrossing his arms as he turns. “Don’t be a dick to Violet,” Cam warns over his shoulder. “I don’t particularly care if you set Halden off, but I happen to like her more than I like you, so I’ll be annoyed if you manage to get on her bad side again.”

“You don’t like me at all,” I point out, stating the fucking obvious. Then I freeze when I realize he said ‘again.’ What the hell does he know? What did Violet tell him?

“Exactly,” he says, the threat in his voice evident, “I’m neutral in the little cold war you have going with my father and brothers, but I’ll happily take a side if you fuck up, and it won’t be yours.”
