Greetings yet again folks! Before today's news i should ask this: what would you think when wearable tech is mentioned? AR/VR glasses? A smart watch? a pair of fancy glasses? nfc based products or was it something else for you?
what if i tell you there is a battery that is so stretchable and bendable that can be tailored between linings of your clothes now what would you think?
Meet the age of stretchable batteries people!
in that case i should mention when people of today was so busy with nonsense politics and rightist or leftist ideas there were quite a race between the biggest tech schools and companies for manufacturing this tech such as apple, samsung, stanford, Yokohama National University, zotach (japan based wearable tech company), sydney's UNCW, Australian research comity and more.. you get the idea..
so what is this tech in its core?
basically building more softer and more long term reliable materials to replace our common daily use batteries
in term of materials it nearly uses our common li-on batteries but these are mainly works like electrodes and often use polymers, hydrogels, and other flexible materials for electrodes and electrolytes. we can see in recent inovations include the use of stretchable conductors like gold nanowires or carbon nanotubes.
BUT what these mambo, jambo, wombo, combo means for public eye?
much longer active use time, higher adaptability, flexible form factor yet lower energy and power density.
for now this tech has been used in certain medical implant cases, wearable techs, tv's, and watches for now but there is some attempts to imply this in to textile industry recently..
and japan is seems like ahead of the race for now with Zotac’s VR GO 4.0 backpack
this is a backpack pc and its power source is tailored between in entire foam/ fiber pad. this "pc" is specifically made for VR/AR and streaming which includes
11th Gen Intel Core Mobile i7-11800H processor, an NVIDIA RTX A4500 graphics card with 20GB of GDDR6 memory and 7,168 CUDA cores, 16GB (32GB maximum) of DDR4 RAM, an M.2 slot for storage, a 2.5′ SATA 3 hard drive/SSD bay for storage, three USB 3.1 Type-A ports, a single USB 3.1 type-C port, DisplayPort, and a 12V DC outlet, all powered by dual 86.4 watt-hour hot-swappable batteries.
like i said this tech is still under developement stage and people still trying to make this tech better than other compettitives...
time will show us what will it gonna be turn out at the end..
lastly.. see you guys tomorrow...

I remember in regimen, Tord recalled "fondly" When they lived together, waking tom up, and tom nearly stabbing him with a bottle cuz of it, any interesting stories to say about young tom and tord? Any times where tords small "obsession" With tom got them in interesting situations/adventures?
Stay au, i get that their relationship is hidden, but do they brag about eachother to anyone? If so, who does the most bragging/showing eachother off
Would, lets say, a rebellion group or another army be able to get a bunch of info were they to get access of Tom's VR (stay au) in a hostage situation. Is there anything Tord can do to stop that? Or Tom in that case?
You're probably sick from hearing this since your community is surprisingly wholesome af, But every day i check your tumblr its got me BOUNCING on my feet, You give me confidence
I see you're art and im like *chefs kiss* mm succulent.
but I'll stop rambling
Any video games, books, or movies you're into?do you think you'll start those stay au oneshots you mentioned before? And how are you? Cant help but feel concerned after u fell down the stairs, and then got sick (p.s. sorry for writing so much again, cant help it)
HAHAHAH Nawww its okay buddy! I'd be happy to answer your questions again ^^
I remember in regimen, Tord recalled "fondly" When they lived together, waking tom up, and tom nearly stabbing him with a bottle cuz of it, any interesting stories to say about young tom and tord? Any times where tords small "obsession" With tom got them in interesting situations/adventures?
Hmm, let me think of something I'm not gonna put in the fic itself. Probs will be in regiminis tho, just more in depth.
Well, as teenagers, Tord often tried to get an explosive reaction out of Tom in public, especially when they were in school. At this time, Tom still somewhat cared about his image in front of other people, yknow cause teenager lol, so even if Tord tries to tease/bully him he wouldn't react too much in fear of making a scene.
One day though, Tord decided to kick it into overdrive, to the point where he finally got Tom to snap and lunge at him in the middle of the cafeteria. They got into a really nasty brawl that ended with both of them getting sent to the headmaster. Surprisingly though, even if witnesses say that Tom was the one who started the fight, Tord actually- happily- admitted that he was the aggressor, and that Tom was defending himself.
"....Why did you do that?" "It's the truth, Thomas. Why should you be punished for something I started?"
And that started Tom off on his confused and mixed emotions about Tord, but don't be fooled though. Tord didn't say this out of goodwill. Remember, even at this point, a small obsession with Tom has already blossomed. Meaning what he said is actually; Why should you be punished by someone else who doesn't even deserve to touch you?
Stay au, i get that their relationship is hidden, but do they brag about eachother to anyone? If so, who does the most bragging/showing eachother off
They can't. No matter how much they want to they can't tell anyone. This applies more to Tord, as Tom is content with only having people he loves/is close to know about his relationship, Tom has always been more private out of the two of them. Tord on the other hand....he wants to brag about his husband so bad. Especially during the times Tom succeeds in any of his field operations. Paul and Pat could be talking about how well Tom is doing and Tord is literally vibrating in his seat like 'Thats my husband thats my husband thats my husband that my husband THATS MY HUSBAND-'
Unfortunately, this means Matt is the only one Tord gets to rave to, which makes Matt's life a living hell, because he has to listen to his boss/maybe old friend foam at the mouth for his best friend.
"He was so cute this morning!! I had him in my arms when he was still sleeping and- and he smiled at me when he woke up and whispered 'Good morning, Elskede'!! AAAAAA I LOVE HIM I LOVE HIM!!!!"
"Thats...nice, Tord."
"Omg also did you know that he likes to cuddle?? HES SO CUTE FUUUUCCCKK!"
"Yes Tord, I know Tom likes to cuddle you have told me this a million times, also Tom is my best friend I KNOW he's a cuddler."
"AND THE WAY HE SMILES I JUST- AUGH, And his laugh?? *SIGH* I don't know how I ever managed- *keeps rambling*"
"This is my hell."
Would, lets say, a rebellion group or another army be able to get a bunch of info were they to get access of Tom's VR (stay au) in a hostage situation. Is there anything Tord can do to stop that? Or Tom in that case?
It wouldn’t really work tbh. Tom’s visor is strictly registered to his biometrics. If you saw my drawings that have him in it, his temples have ports where the visor connects to, thats how he’s able to access and see through the visor, his eyes are actually glass eyes.
If there were attempts at hacking into his visor, it would self-destruct. Just fizzle out when it’s still connected to Tom, and straight up explode if it isn’t connected to Tom.
Of course, Tord would get a distress signal if Tom was ever captured and he can’t handle it alone. In which case he would send out Red Sentries first, troops second, Paul and Patryck if the first two don’t work, then come himself last. (This is for the sake of their safety, Tord would WANT to go first, but they have to go through command chain to maintain their personal lives.)
For Tom, if the situation gets desperate, he will resort to using his hellhound (again, his monsterform in this AU) but like I said, as 3rd gen the shifting is agony, so it really only is a last resort.
You're probably sick from hearing this since your community is surprisingly wholesome af, But every day i check your tumblr its got me BOUNCING on my feet, You give me confidence
DHAJSJ NAWWWW I don’t get sick of hearing it, it REALLY REALLY warms my heart that you guys are so supportive of me, it gives me confidence in my works knowing someone enjoys it.
AND YEAH!! Everyone is so SWEET!! You guys are such kind-hearted people, I’m so glad the people who came to me so far are the kind of people I would be happy to associate with! My mutuals are all good, kind, and talented people, and you guys like I said are so so sweet! I like to think I’m cultivating a little corner that’s soft and calming, it really costs me nothing to be kind, especially in today’s climate, when I’m here I want to forget the bad things and rave about the stuff I like, so I’m glad you’re all here to do that too ^^
I see you're art and im like *chefs kiss* mm succulent.
*hides in a bush to scREAM /pos*
Any video games, books, or movies you're into?do you think you'll start those stay au oneshots you mentioned before? And how are you? Cant help but feel concerned after u fell down the stairs, and then got sick (p.s. sorry for writing so much again, cant help it)
OOOOH! Well I like the Bioshock series, Dishonored, Journey, Sky: CoTL, Fire Emblem, Bravely Default, Pokemon, Don’t Starve, and lately I’m getting into Hades but haven’t gotten that far yet ^^;
For books I’ll always recommend the Leviathan series by Scott Westerfeld, if you’re into historical war retellings with steampunk aspects.
The Monstrumologist series by Rick Yancy if ya fancy some monster horror
The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa if you’re into faeries and smoochin faeries I guess lol
Steelheart series by Brandon Sanderson and Villains series by V.E. Schwab if you like post-apocalyptic/dark superheroes stories.
aaaand Ascendance series by Jennifer Nielsen which is a series I read when I was younger which is about war, royal conspiracy, and all that funky stuff lol
Of course I also love some of the classics like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes plus lots of the Shakespearean plays bc I’m a stupid theater kid wjsjfjsnd
So yea,,,,,my book tastes are….inconsistent. As long as the story is cool, I will eat it lol. Plus, all these authors and books practically raised the type of writer I am lmao.
And, I’m not much of a movie fan? I think the Ghibli movies are cool though, and I like silly goofy movies like Knives out and Bullet Train so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As for how I am, tired, overworked, still a little sick, I was born pretty weak with a broken lower respiratory system so thats just how it is lmao. The studio also has been piling work on top of me so thats….neat, but at least I can afford food??
But thank you for asking!! I hope you’re doing well too ^^ And don’t worry, I never mind when you guys write to me a lot.

Cosmonious High - An Interactive VR Playground (Review)
Let’s talk high school! For some people, it was some of the best years of their life, for others eh maybe not so much. However, no matter what your affiliation with cliques and clubs where I have a game to bring you back into the nostalgia of classes with a sci-fi, cutesy, alien vibe. I bring to you a VR game about going back to high school as an adorable character called a Prismi, more on that later in the post. I had the pleasure to review this game through the generosity of Owlchemy Labs the creator of Cosmonious High and a few other games we know and love such as Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator. According to Owlchemy Labs Cosmonious High is
An alien adventure where players take the role of a Prismi, a rare alien species that can adapt to any situation, who crash lands into their first day of high school. The school is troubled by mysterious malfunctions and chaos. As a Prismi, players will adapt awesome alien abilities to restore Cosmonious High to its former glory while also participating in classes and making friends with quirky classmates.
The question lies does the gameplay live up to the expectations of what the game truly is? Let’s jump in and find out!
*Note: this is a long comprehensive review of the game, if there is a part of the post you want to read more than others I went ahead and labeled each section in case you don’t want to read through the entire thing. Also, there are spoiler alerts throughout the post so if you mind those be careful and heed my warning otherwise enjoy reading! *
Customization:
When you first begin you are brought into a room with what seems to be one of the teachers to get you set up for your first day of school. You grab an ID badge and set it in a glowing circle where it starts to float. At this point you scan your hand and then your game is ready to begin. After a few pieces of what they call “swag” (ah! So cringy to say nowadays though it was a cooler word when I was younger) emerge your able to quickly customize your Prismi self with school merch. There are not a whole lot of customization options. I feel this section of customization had some opportunity for the casual gamers to really make their Prismi theirs. I wish there were wigs, outfits aside from hats, foam fingers, mugs, and backpacks to customize your character with. Character customization was always something I loved and enjoyed, and it was fun taking an hour or so to create a version of myself that I wanted to play and use in a world filled with wonder. This is a minor issue, however, and I was fine with picking an aqua backpack, putting on a beanie, and grabbing a mug that sparked my school spirit.
youtube
The Beginning:
Talk about crash landing into your first day of school, this is not an understatement. As you crash into the school your entire “bus” is on fire this is how you obtain and perform your first Prismi ability. Your first ability is waterpower to put out the fires. The most interesting part is it’s not just your bus that’s on fire but the entire school, aside from yourself crash landing on in you have meteors that are also a threat. After putting out the fires on the bus you step into the school where you’re greeted with a banner and Fran the first character you meet on your journey. Fran is notorious for really cringy puns and dad jokes fair warning. I’ve concluded that every time she made one, I’d spray her with water like a cat. Some are super cringy and other puns she makes are funny. What is somewhat upsetting is right after you get off the bus Fran keeps annoying you to follow her and you don’t have a whole lot of time to experience the things on the way to where she wants you. To be honest even with her repeating herself a million times I did explore and have fun opening a lot of the character’s lockers and interacting with the stuff in the hallway. Just know if you decide to do this too you may hear Fran repeating herself guiding you to where she wants you.
The Tutorial and Gaming Category:
The tutorial with me making stops along the way and interacting with the environment took me about an hour or two to complete. I’m not going to lie my ADHD got the best of me and my attention was everywhere. There is so much to do and interact with. Though Owlchemy Labs considers this to be an adventure VR game, I find it to be best suited for families, casual/cozy gamers, and kids. I find this game to best fit the following genre/categories; simulation, open-world, RPG, adventure, creative, and go at your own pace almost like a Stardew valley/Animal Crossing vibe. I like how for the most part I’m not pressured to do specific things, I have options. If I don’t want to complete a credit/quest in a class, I don’t have to. I can go and interact with the environment and do what I please. The game gives you an array of things to do outside the storyline which I think is so much fun. This game truly is versatile!
Help and Books:
One important thing to mention is aside from the direction given by the characters during the tutorial and during the storyline, players don’t have a whole lot of help. Or do they? It’s a strange concept but you must look for “books” to help you learn how to play if the characters teaching you doesn’t help. There are a few ways the game teaches you how to interact. The first way is while a character is talking to you in the form of a friendly conversation, they will tell you how to interact or do something. After they tell you to complete a task (interaction) a little flashing icon with what to press or do will pop up until you complete that interaction. The other way I found is through books, just like going to school you need to read to learn how to do things. At the beginning of the game, there are three books in the hallway. One teaches you about Prismi’s, what they are, and how to use their beginner powers. The other two help with the mechanics of the game. To read it you pick the book up with one hand and swipe with the other horizontally. It’s almost like using a smartphone and swiping right or left on Tinder. In classes, though the teacher will direct you on how to interact there are books, especially in Chemosophy and Visualetics both found in what is called the Creation Wing. An example of books in a class can be found in Chemosophy class where it tells you what chemicals you need to combine to create new ones.
Interacting With Characters:
This is so much fun! I love the bonds I have created with a lot of the characters in the game throughout the storyline. What I love about Cosmonious High is it’s extremely inclusive and LGBTQ+ friendly. The reason I say this is as I was going through the storyline (spoiler alert) the character Blort who goes by they/them pronouns has a thing for the jock of the school Honk who goes by he/him pronouns. One of the tiny favors he asks you is to make a card for him and then help him compile a poem and place the card in his locker for Blort because he is a wuss and won’t do it himself. Every character has their own personality, hobbies, and ways of communicating. As said earlier in my post Fran would be a great example as she loves using puns and cringe dad jokes. Both Speks and Li Than who both go by she/her pronouns are a part of the yearbook staff that guess what? You get to help with it. There is a moment in the storyline where you help by taking pictures of all the students and staff. The main students are Blort, Speks, Fran, Li Than, Gleg, and Honk. However, there are many more to discover a few of these since I don’t want to spoil the fun for you are; Zanesha (transforms into a detective often), OOG, Prax (always has a bake sale and running for the next class president), Penk (class president). These select few play a prominent role at the beginning of the gameplay when you’re finishing up the tutorial and moving more into the storyline. What I love about Prax is all around the Grand Hall you will find “Prax Bucks or a Prax Dollar” This is used to buy some of his goods at his bake sale such as cookies, boba tea, etc.
When interacting with characters, it is a true interaction. You can high-five them, fist bump, and talk to them. To talk to characters, you click and move your controller from your mouth outward in a quick motion to bring up the speech bubbles to talk and interact with the characters. My favorite thing to do is give them high-fives. Each character responds differently to various interactions. I love just how much thought went into communicating with the NPC’s in VR it really adds to the immersion of the gameplay. When starting classes and interacting with the teachers you can wave to them and that will begin the storyline or you can use the speech bubbles to learn more about them. Oh! And you can wave to the other characters too, and they will say hi and some will even wave back.
Fixing the School:
youtube
As you know with the school falling apart, meteors hitting, and the school in complete chaos you will find some tasks to complete along the way. There are wires that are completely torn, piles of gook, and lights on the floor from the ceiling to place back together, getting rid of meteors, and there are in some cases fires that need to be put out and electrical units that need to be frozen, so they don’t catch fire. On your adventures, you will run into these minor issues that need fixing be sure to fix them along the way as it is part of the gameplay. You also find these somewhat semi annoying flying shapes that change color and disappear when you fix one of the tasks you find around the school building. These are around to show that something needs to be fixed. Even though in theory it is a great idea to have something that shows something needs to be done these little creatures are a little annoying in my opinion and remind me of reality when I see what are called “floaters” every now and then. Again, not a huge issue just a personal preference and I can be a little picky about things in my games.
Classes:
There are so many classes to experience, each with a fun room to mess with your Prismi powers and create and interact.
Chemosophy:
Just like a chemistry class you walk in and can go to a “lab station” right when you walk in. On the table, there are books to learn how to make different mixtures that interact with various objects differently. On the table, you will find a beaker and vile, a machine with solutions, a mixing beaker, a mixer, a section with three shapes, and the two books. Beside the table, there is something called an anti-void trash can. Don’t let this confuse you, it’s an actual trash can. You can do quite a few things you can learn things on your own at your own pace using the books, you can participate in lessons (quests) to earn credits in the class, or you can walk around the classroom and find raised little podiums with tasks to also help you earn credits. I don’t know about others who have tried this game, but this is one of my favorite classes. I’m not even good at science or math but I love what you do in this section of the game and it’s fun to mix solutions to obtain various results. I enjoyed making stickium which if you drop one of the shapes you can throw it and have the shape stick to things after dipping it in the solution or pouring the solution on the shape. This goes for anything else you create.
Visualetics:
Another one of my favorites, think of art class! If you’re artistic like me, you will love this room. There is a splatter paint room. There are balls that look like sponges in the shape of balls that you bathe in paint “tubs” choosing a color to use and then throwing it at the canvas. This is a blast and I spent hours doing this. Another thing to note is the classroom stays the way you leave it. If it is super messy it will stay that way until you clean it. This is something that adds to the realism of the game. To be honest, though I’ve been a messy player in this game in this room especially since I can trash the classroom with paint. To clean up the paint you use your first Prismi power and cover the room in water which cleans everything. But to be fair sometimes this can be extremely time-consuming. I love being able to make my own art pieces and color them on my own. There is so much creativity present in this game, especially for people who love art this room would be for you.
These are just two of some of the rooms you will visit in the game, these are just at the beginning of the gameplay. But who am I to spoil the entire game for you? Not today, not I. One of the major key features of this game according to Owlchemy Labs is it has a “Juicy, Responsive World – The entire school is one big interactive playground for your powers.” This is described as one of its high key features and it is my favorite one. There is so much to do with very little downtime. You can explore classes and the entire game on your own or go through the storyline.
Prismi Powers:
youtube
I don’t want to provide all of them but some of the powers include the following:
1. Water
2. Crystal
3. Size up and Down
4. Fire
5. Ice
There are more than this, but you need to play the game to find out more about these.
Comfort Settings - As of April 21, 2022:
1. Artificial Turning
2. Snap-Turn
3. Artificial Movement
4. Teleport-Move (this is a god sent when I want to play this while sitting)
5. Standing Mode
6. Seated Mode
7. Real Crouch
8. Subtitles (it is put into the game, so it almost is blended in and reminds me of an RPG, I kept subtitles on because I wanted to experience it and see how it worked with the gameplay. I loved it and highly suggest if you need them to turn them on. I don’t find too many games with subtitles, so this is something I absolutely loved! Languages for subtitles include English, French, Deutsch, German, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean as of 4/21/22.
9. Adjustable Player Height (be careful with this, the height does have a specific limit its not too short though and this is perfect for a child around the age of 10 or older).
Concluding Thoughts:
There is so much more I could type about regarding this game, and I might make a second post in the future. My final thought on Cosmonious High is it’s a game perfect for Casual/Cozy gamers, families, kids, and adults age 10+, and provides loads of fun and entertainment in an interactive VR playground. The storyline could be a little more interesting and at times the game does feel a little babyish at certain points. There are also moments where Fran’s puns/dad jokes are said at the wrong times, and it sometimes is more annoying than fun and playful banter with the player. But overall, the character interaction and the hours of fun it provides more than makes up for some of its downfalls. I love how the game is LGBTQ+ friendly and reaches out to all types of players. This is the first VR game in a while that I have picked up and have found it so hard to put down. It’s that one game that while you’re playing it you don’t realize how quickly time is flying by. As a casual gamer and average consumer with a huge creative streak, this game is almost a dream come true. I give this game a solid 8.5/10 rating and hope that maybe in the future there might be some updates to keep the game current and fun for years to come!

The Makers: ARCTIC LiDAR Video Installation
The Makers is a series that highlights students and faculty from ACSA member schools to show the unique work coming out of architecture schools across the globe. Check out more on the blog by searching “The Makers.” Project: ARCTIC LiDAR Lead Architects: Daniele Profeta with Maya Alam Office: A/P Practice Client: Syracuse University Design Team: Zexi Tang and Erick Sanchez Collaborator: Liam Young with the New Normal program of STRELKA Institute for Media, Architecture, and Design Graphic Design: Common Name ARCTIC LiDAR is an immersive 360° Video Installation exploring the quickly expanding logistic landscape of the Arctic coast. ARCTIC LiDAR_ACC Festival from A/P Practice on Vimeo. Logistics can be defined as the detailed coordination of the complex space constituted by infrastructures, information, goods, and people that make the production and circulation of stuff possible. Stretching across nation-state borders, redefining territoriality through the cartographic space of global supply chains and constructing an operational state of unencumbered continuous movement of goods, the space of logistics is dramatically transforming the world we inhabit. Part documentary, part projective narrative, the video presented in this installation articulates projective scenarios for the expanding logistics space of global commerce along the coast of the Arctic. Using 3-D LiDAR scanning, this project captures the primary nodes of this far-reaching infrastructure, ranging from Dry Ports to Ice Breakers and Rail Terminals, and re-assembles them in a composite, speculative landscape. LiDAR, an acronym for Light Detection and Ranging, is a remote sensing technology that uses light pulses to measure and three-dimensionally map vast territories with ever-increasing precision. A sensor emitting pulses of infrared light, millions of times per second, constructs point-clouds as a representation of the environment being surveyed: a spatial database so detailed that can be used to detect and interact with surrounding objects: across the territory of the Arctic, it is used to establish politics, protocols, and economies of autonomous distribution. It is through the lens of the apparatus of machinic vision and its network of activations that we can begin to see the traces of this emerging urbanism of logistics across the territory.

Using a Virtual Reality headset, the viewers are transported in the automated landscape of logistics, where driverless trucks, robotic cranes and remote-sensing drones operate through the dense point cloud. Immersed in a 360° video moving across this speculative landscape, this operative mode of vision is slowly contaminated by atmospheric elements foreign to the machinic eye, prompting the viewer to develop an intimate engagement with the material. The viewers are caught in an ambiguous territory where a bodily experience of this harsh landscape and its extreme climate re-asserts its presence in an otherwise human-less environment. And yet, their point of view is constrained to the rigid linear movement of what appears to be indifferent machines, reinforcing the agency of the automated infrastructure upon the construction of this territory.

Aerial view of the composite landscape constructed from the different LiDAR Scans. The modularity of these nodes reinforces the continuity of this infrastructure across a planetary scale.
Still from the 360o video displayed in the installation: here the scene shows the Dry Port Container Harbor area. The initial Scan data is infiltrated by atmospheric elements (in this case snow and lighting fog) to further reinforce a bodily experience of these sites.
Similarly, the physical space of the installation engages with the three-dimensional database of LiDAR vision by sampling a series of spatial elements surveyed on these sites to construct a space of engagement across multiple mediated realities. The digital trace of the surfaces of cargo containers, one of the artifacts that most dramatically transformed this network of logistics, gantry cranes, ice-breaker navigation control panels and train wagons are translated into relief panels to extend and confront the content presented through the VR headset. Rather than focusing on the re-production of accurate digital copies, these artifacts attempt to highlight the tension between their material surfaces and the machinic vision that surveyed them by juxtaposing their true ‘RGB’, Red, Green and Blue color information, with the ‘XYZ’ data, a so-called ‘normal map’ visualizing the directionality of each of the points surveyed. Each panel is CNC milled out of high-density foam and is then printed with this edited texture layer. Ultimately the installation urges the viewers to understand the architecture of logistics beyond a ‘technicality’, a politically neutral act of management, but rather predicates itself around ideas of anticipation and prediction, acting as a transforming agent of the built environment, of territories as well as of bodies.
Still from the constructed digital scene showing the Control Room area of the Ice Breaker. The dense point cloud here reads as a continuous image representing the interior of this space. 19/07/2019 - First week of Semester 2, Studio progress.
This week, I managed to find myself a group for the semester that was looking at making a VR game aeronautic game based in the Adriatic sea . I (once again) got a role as a programmer. I wanted to be able to gain further experience not just with Unity, but with programming as a whole. Having delved into one of my favourite game’s code (for modding purposes) made me feel like I still had a lot to learn.
The first task I had to perform was to make a toon style water shader, in the style of games like “RIME” and “The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker”.
I managed to follow this very straight forward guide (https://roystan.net/articles/toon-water.html) and got me some sweet cartoon water. The resulting shader looks cool as heck, but it also comes a lot of tweakable properties like the colours when it’s shallow or deep, the colour of the foam, tiling and a fair bit more. I played with those properties to try to make it more ocean like, then I put it in a scene with a few islands and got me something like this:
The next step I was given was to make physics driven buoyancy (aka water physics). Compared to making a cool water shader, this was on a different level entirely. Through the entirety of today (19/07/2019) Max (Kooji) and I both got looking at resources on the internet. The closest we got was the following, but it did have some major flaws:
youtube
The code had problems determining the geometry of the object to make it float as it should (hence the upright boat). We tried with other boat models from the Unity Asset store, but this issue was persistent and for the scope of our game, finding a case by case solution would be a nightmare.
Fortunately, Max found a promising tutorial, so I’ll give that a shot when I get the chance.

One of my best friends launched Stoop, an Android/iOS newsletter reader. It uses a dedicated email and clean design experience to keep your information diet healthy. If you subscribe to newsletters, you will like it.
For reasons unknown, Twitter has locked my @evan_van_ness account. After Mailchimp arbitrarily banned me earlier this year, it’s sad to see web2.0 platforms making the case for their own demise. Web3 can’t come fast enough.
I’m sure that I missed things for this newsletter due to Twitter’s banhammer. Sorry!

We live in a digital age, technology has drastically changed how we live and keeping fit is no exception
Because of the pandemic, more and more people have had to transition to working out at home, and as with most aspects of going into lockdown, technology has helped make that transition a lot easier. Here are 6 ways that technology is revolutionising working out at home whilst gyms have been closed! Will we ever need to go back?
Wearable Technology
Although it's been around for a while, wearable technology plays an important part in people fitness routines, such as fitness trackers which are always gaining in popularity with one in five Americans now owning one. However, ,it is debated whether or not these devices ,help you to move more and get healthier, because people mistake them for ,motivational tools whereas, in fact, the reason devices like Fitbit and Apple Watch exist is to help improve your fitness routine, not make you stick to it.
Wearable technology can provide you with valuable data and analysis into your performance, whether you're running, swimming or working out, by giving information about your heart rate, calories burned and more. The ,new Apple Watch will even tell you about your ,blood oxygen level!
Virtual Training Apps
Mobile fitness apps have also taken the world by storm and with lockdowns around the world due to the pandemic, many people have turned to these apps to make the most of their time at home. Nowadays there are hundreds of fitness apps available covering almost any aspect of fitness and health you can think of.
There is no doubt that these apps are having an enormous impact on the industry, thanks to the practicality of having a "virtual trainer" on your phone but that isn't to say that they're better than having a personal trainer and a gym membership. Although some of these apps, especially home workout apps, may promise amazing results, for the moment they still can't compete with the advice from a personal trainer and the variety of equipment available at a gym.
These apps are probably best for when you're on the move, tracking things like running and cycling or if you simply haven't got the time to go to the gym.
Gamification
Despite being a relatively new addition to the fitness world, this new gym trend seems quite promising. Gamification is the application of typical elements of game playing like point scoring, competition with others and rules of play to other areas of activity, in this case, fitness.
When gamification is present in a fitness experience, it creates a fun, challenging environment for participants by creating lead boards and a sense of achievement and competition. This tech often exists in training apps, allowing you and your friends to see each other's performance like in the Strava and Nike Training apps, but gyms are now trying to integrate it too.

Smart, Connected Equipment
Some Gyms are now starting to offer smart and connected equipment to their members, offering them the ability to move from one gym to the other and continue to feed into their own personal data bank of performances.
This new generation of equipment includes Bluetooth connectivity equipped spin cycles, treadmills and step machines and more!
Virtual Reality Fitness
Some gyms have even started using Virtual Reality (VR) fitness equipment with machines such as VirZOOM, a blend of stationary bikes and VR games and the Icaros flying machine, a core & upper body focused VR. The main benefit of this is, of course, adding a bit of fun to your workouts, because there is no doubt that training your core while flying through space on your Icaros will be a bit more exciting than a set of lame crunches!
This ability to make have fun whilst working out and not have it all be about data and performance could be a game-changer for the industry, but in it's current state, VR fitness is by no means perfect. The obvious disadvantage is the awkwardness of working out in a headset, but that's not all, being a relatively new technology, debates on how long you should spend using a VR headset and what effects it could have on you brain and eyes in the long term are being had.
The Full Gym Experience - At Home!
We've talked about virtual training apps, fitness trackers and connected equipment, but what if all this was to come in one, ultimate home fitness package? Well, undoubtedly helped by the pandemic and people having to stay indoors, companies have been creating exactly that!
Here are some of the most advanced "Smart" home fitness machines available to buy:
Tempo Studio is an at-home fitness machine that comes with quality equipment, hundreds of on-demand and live classes, and is one of the smartest home fitness devices on the market.
It also comes with 3D sensors that are able to track your reps and make real-time corrections to your form thanks to a notification that pops up on your screen with instructions on how to correct it.
Furthermore, the Tempo's AI will track your progress, class performance and recommend weights and reps.
What's included? Well, the equipment that comes with Tempo is something you’d see in a high-end gym or fitness studio. It includes rubber-coated weight plates, two dumbbells, a barbell, weight collars, a heart rate monitor, a workout mat, and a recovery foam roller. All the equipment is stored nice and neatly in your Tempo cabinet!
The Mirror an interactive home fitness device that streams thousands of live and on-demand exercise classes on its display while showing your reflection so you can check your form.
Mirror costs $1,495 currently, plus $39 a month for a one-year-minimum subscription to access all of its live and on-demand workouts, including cardio, strength, yoga, barre, Pilates, boxing, HIIT, and other workouts that you can complete within the comfort of your home.
Furthermore, the exercise classes are led by experts who coach you through each session, stay personal and encourage you with feedback during your training to keep your confidence high.
You also have the ability to connect your Apple Watch or the included heart rate monitor so it can keep track of your heart rate and provide you with useful data at the end of each session.
Finally, we have Tonal, the most complete (and expensive) home gym machine we could find!
It’s a digital weight machine with two adjustable arms that mounts on your wall and uses electricity to create resistance up to 200 lbs. As the company says:
“It’s an entire gym on your wall.”
For the moment, you can only buy Tonal if you live in one of the 48 contiguous United States, as one of the company’s concierges must install the equipment for you. And there's no doubt that it's an investment, coming in at $2,995 for the equipment and $49 a month for a minimum 12-month subscription to Tonal’s coaching, exercise programs, and workout videos.
Not only do you have access to a wide range of exercises and workouts, but Tonal will also coach you so you continuously progress by suggesting when to increase weight along with other tips.
You'll also be getting an unprecedented amount of data, as each movement is recorded and analysed to make sure you get the most out of your workout. Along with tracking weight, reps, and performance, collects on your range of motion, time under tension, power, volume and, thanks to it's 17 sensors, gives you feedback on your form.
