An expression sketch dump of my son. (My son is older than me, fight me.)
Anyway, I drew these for my Uther x Lyndis fic, We Danced Anyway.
This is Hector’s older Brother, Uther. And bonus Lyn. I’m trying to study Uther’s facial expressions, and facial proportions. It’s a lot of work in progress. The top right sketch was my very first sketch of Uther, (see the whole sketch including his upper body on my blog.) I included it here as a reference to help keep my other sketches on model. I adore this man, help me.
My husband says I should make a sexy body pillow cover of Uther next, and I told him if I did, it would include splotches and speckles of red blood on the sheets next to his head, because he has TB. And it needs to symbolize him accidentally coughing onto the sheets next to him. Husband says that’s both horrible and wonderful. And I am nothing if not devious.

We Danced Anyway
Written by: me (Saij Spellhart)
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Uther x Lyn (Hector’s older brother and Lyndis)
Fandoms: Fire Emblem the Blazing Sword (Blade)
Summary: Lyn travels to Ostia to negotiate a political marriage to Hector. They’re friends, comrades, and their union will strengthen both Caelin and Ostia. The union made sense. Uther couldn’t be happier for his younger brother. That is, until Uther meets Lady Lyndis.
As a mutual attraction blossoms, they both find it increasingly more difficult to stay away from each other.
(Uther falls for his younger brother’s fiancée, and equally Lyn has it bad for Hector’s older brother.)
Warnings: forbidden romance, age difference, infidelity, mature content, sickness. (Uther has TB, and Lyn is not repulsed by it.)
I wrote this first and foremost for my husband. He gave me the idea through a conversation we had about Uther, and was supportive throughout the process of writing it. As of posting this, I’ve already written out the entire fic aside from the last chapter. So updates will be frequent and timely.

A upcoming snippet from my story. I want to share, because Matthew is such a fun character to write.
When the coughing fit subsided, there was a fresh speckling of red staining the inner folds of the cape fabric. Uther grimaced at the evidence, and fished out his handkerchief to blot some of the blood out. The last thing he needed was it transferring to his nice clothes and spreading the stain.
It was less blood than he’d been coughing up before. Which was progress. He would take it.
“Ahem,” someone cleared their throat beside him.
Uther didn’t even look up as he continued blotting at the blood on his cape. “Hello Matthew.”
The little thief tugged on his Lord’s cape until Uther spared him a glance. When he paused to look, a cup was shoved toward the Marquess’ nose.
Uther raised a curious brow, the contents of the cup didn’t smell like any alcohol he recognized.
Matthew hopped up to sit on the balustrade, still holding the cup out to his master. “Your…love potion,” he said carefully.
Uther’s brow dropped and his mouth pulled into a thin line.
“Potion made with love,” Matthew tried again as he wiggled the cup around, swishing the thick draught inside. “Devoted elixir of breathy sighs.”
Uther cast about making certain there wasn’t anyone within earshot from the party before he hissed, “To avoid keen ears overhearing ‘medicine,’ you choose instead to imply I take an aphrodisiac?”
“Isn’t that more flattering than the alternative?” Matthew smiled his fox-like grin and shrugged his shoulders. “Besides, it might as well be. The drugs certainly make you dopey for her. Is that why you’ve avoided her so deliberately this past week?”

Sneaking medicine to the man she's not supposed to fall for, while he's coughing blood, and oops he confesses to having feelings.
(another excerpt from my fic.)
“Lyn,” Uther breathed in a rough timbre that left goosebumps over her skin. “Where’d you come from?”
He was already half-sitting up in bed, propped on a mass of pillows that helped elevate his head and shoulders. She spotted a blood-stained handkerchief in his hand, even whilst he tried to hide it beneath the fold of a blanket.
Lyn moved to sit on the edge of his bed before even considering the boldness of it. Belatedly she could hear Kent scolding her in the back of her mind. She argued that this wasn’t any different than the time she tended to Marc back in Sacae.
“Oswin let me in,” she told Uther. “I have something for you.”
Uther suppressed a cough and shook his head. “You…shouldn’t be in here. My…symptoms are-“ he covered his mouth with the handkerchief as a fit took hold. He tried his best to twist away so he wouldn’t cough on her.
Lyn uncapped the bottle of medicine in her lap, pulling the cork stopper, and using the metal cap as a cup. She poured the thick honey-sweet medicine into the cap, minding the markings etched just below the rim. As soon as the coughing subsided, she leaned in, pulling Uther’s hand from his mouth.
She ignored his weak protests—and the bloody handkerchief—and pressed the cup of medicine to his lips. “Hush,” she admonished him. “Chastise me for being so forward later. I want you to drink this. It will soothe your throat and suppress the coughing.”
He met her eyes, and there was understanding. His lips parted, allowing her to tip the medicine into his mouth. She saw the muscles in his throat flex as he swallowed it.
After a minute, Uther took an easier breath and relaxed back into the pillows. Lyn corked the bottle of medicine, and set both it and the metal cap on his nightstand.
“Not a…miracle, my ass,” Uther rumbled, his storm eyes fixing on Lyn’s face. His long hair was disheveled, falling over part of his face.
Lyn made a small huff. “My people say, ‘illness fails in the face of a strong heart.’” She reached out and combed the hair out of his face, tucking some of it behind his ear. His lovely little gold hoop earrings glinted in the gentle lamp light. “But there’s a few nice things in there to help ease your discomfort. The medicine itself contains some funguses that help fight off the consumption.” She forced herself to cease touching his hair.
“A cure?” Uther asked, his exhausted voice betraying the slightest edge of hope.
“I…maybe?” Lyn dropped her gaze, hands fidgeting in her lap. “Some of my people have made a long term recovery with this medicine. But…” she trailed off.
“I’ll take my chances with maybe,” he murmured. “It’s better than…the alternative.”
“I wanted to give you the medicine before you left for Thria.”
Uther closed his eyes at that. His breathing was already sounding a little easier, and while his skin was still pale, his brow no longer creased from pain and stress. “In hindsight, attending the conference was a poor decision on my part. Two days of horseback in heavy rain…”
“And you admonish Hector for being reckless.” Lyn gave his side a little shove, and hoped it was his leg she touched, and not someplace else. It was difficult to tell with how buried in pillows and blankets he was.
Uther responded with a weak exhausted laugh. “We are brothers in the end. Sometimes…we want the same things.”
(Check out the rest in my fic, We Danced Anyway. I just posted chapter 7.)

WOO! Last chapter of this crazy crack pairing fic. I'm nearly finished with this Utherlyn fanfic, i just have to write the sex scene.
But just humor me a second. C'mere and look at the constitution difference between Lyn and Uther.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
to put it into perspective a regular sized human in Fire emblem is around 8 to 10 constitution. 5 is a tiny ass character. And 16 is a lumbering behemoth. (And Hector, already a mountainous man is only 13 con.)
There is an 11 point difference in body size between Lyn and Uther.
-rubs hands together-
The size difference kink will be delicious.
I hope all the (looks at notes) 3 maybe 4 readers of this story enjoy it with me.
Hehehehehehehehehe.

If you thought my "Uther steals his Brother's girl" fic was going to end sad for Hector, you are mistaken.
Hector would absolutely be upset, but not because Lyn fell in love with his brother. He would be disappointed and upset entirely because Lyn was supposed to be his friend, and she didnt tell him she was in love with Uther before things got out of hand. He'd be more concerned that she didnt trust him, than he would be about losing his fiancee.
AND THEN once our favorite himbo cools off he will absolutely go to his big bro, and be like, "Brother, I'm pissed off you didnt say something, but now that we're in this mess you're going to need some pointers. I'm a master at destroying my own reputation. A decade of experience really. You want the Noble Lady of Caelin? Let me show you how to destroy your reputation to get her."
And thus the brothers work together. And Hector finally has a chance to help his older Brother for a change.
While this ending probably wont make it into the fic, just because I have plans to end the fic before this scene would occur. I do really want to draw a comic of Hector and Uther having this conversation. We'll see.

I wasn't supposed to actually ship Uther and Lyndis together.
It was a crack ship I swear! It was meant to be a joke.
When my husband asked me who I would pair Uther with (because as he pointed out, I only like writing romances) I chimed up with Lyn as a joke. Simply because Lyn is my favorite.
I was being a smartass. I thought 'nah, I wouldnt actually pair him with Lyn thats so ridiculous.'
Wacky nonsense.
Right?
RIGHT?
Except now I unironically love these two together. Their chemistry turned out so good. The more I write them the more I wish I expanded on things more. Drew out their romance more. If not for the audience I do not have, but for myself.
My husband told me I'm drinking my own kool-aid now with this ship and this character, (Uther specifically).
I told him I'm waaaay past drinking. I'm snorting lines of kool-aid for Uther and the UtherLyn pairing.
I've built a house of donuts out of this man specifically.
Husband said when he searched the Uther tag on Tumblr it was mostly my posts he found.
I said, yeah.... I know.
...Oh hell.
I did this to myself.

I forgot Uther’s reading glasses. So now here is a version with a closed mouth smile, and his reading glasses.
