Descent of Dragons: Y2K Reveals
Many people worked very hard to prevent the Year 2000 being considered the Year 1900, which would have trapped the world in an endless time loop. Which is definitely what the problem was.
Anyhow, there’s some rare and Epic cards left so let’s look at them real quick.
Hoard Pillager allows you to recycle your weapons, which is highly convenient now that we’re seeing more Legendary weapons. Of course, you can also reuse other, less Legendary weapons, but the utility is basically the same. This is probably best in decks that don’t use many weapons, since that means you can consistently get the weapon you want. Hoard Pillager also isn’t so good in Rogue, since getting the Hero Power dagger is bad. Overall, I think you’ll only want to run this is having a weapon is central to your strategy, since the statline is great if you’re just getting back any weapon.
Utgarde Grapplesniper is this set’s incredibly weird and confusing tech card. I don’t really think this is worth running, since there’s always the chance that you pull out a large scary Dragon for your opponent, while not drawing your own. Plus, you might miss out on your good Dragon Battlecries. Probably worth giving this one a miss.
Grizzled Wizard is another card to interact with Hero Powers. Except most of the time, you probably don’t want to do a swap. None of the non-basic powers you can access in Standard are worth paying four mana to get access to, and in Wild, you probably want to be doing signifigantly more effective things that using an opponent’s Hero Power for one turn. There’s a bit of buzz about overwriting your opponent’s Hero Power with another card, which sounds great, but almost certainly won’t pan out that well. Grizzled Wizard might be an interesting gimmick, but it’s probably not that great for actually winning the game.
Skyfin is weird a weird cross-tribal support card. There are a lot of better things you can do for five mana when holding a Dragon, so I don’t really see this as a winner. Honestly, this is kind of a letdown for an Epic minion, but that’s how things are. Just ignore that fact that a bunch of commons are way more interesting and complex than Skyfin. It’s for Limited, you see. (What do you mean, “Rarity doesn’t affect Arena”?)
