7 Things to Do During Mustang Valley Trek
Mustang, also known as the "Mini Tibet of Nepal" is a heavenly place that has a lot of great things in store for you. Located towards the North-West part of Nepal, at an elevation of 3840 meters, the divine topography is bound to make you astounded and bewildered. This place is a great attraction site for both international and domestic tourists.
Until 1992, Upper Mustang was a restricted kingdom of Nepal, therefore, the place is much preserved and has a lot to offer to the new world. A majority of the population still speaks traditional Tibetic languages instead of Nepali due to its close connection with Tibet. In recent years, a team of National Geography launched a discovery investigation on the Sky Caves of Nepal that led to the discovery of the unknown ancient civilization and history of this region.
Visiting Muktinath Temple
Since the Muktinath temple is built at an altitude of 3800 meters, the temple holds a record for the "World's Highest Altitude Located Temples". The temple is sacred in the Hindu Vaishnavas and is known as a place of salvation. Here, it is said that the five essential elements of life (i.e. air, water, earth, fire, and space) co-exist in perfect harmony.
Bathe in Holy Muktidhara
There are 108 waterspouts around the temple from where crisp water flows straight from the mountains and the glaciers. These waterspouts are called Mukti Dhara, and people often take a bath there, despite the freezing temperature, because it is considered sacred. Nevertheless, it would undoubtedly be a unique experience.
Trekking in Mustang
Mustang is sub-categorized into Upper Mustang and Lower Mustang; these two regions enable you to explore different landscapes of Nepal. These places are often sought by people who have a knack for exploring difficult trail roads. Upper Mustang resembles Tibet, and you may enjoy bright, dry treks during the summer since it is difficult during the winter. But the Lower Mustang is accessible throughout the year and provides stupendous views as well whilst trekking through the beautiful rhododendron forests.
Jeep Safari
Booking a private jeep and cruising through the wild-lands of Mustang indeed enables you to stop by anywhere to observe the beauty of the place and to capture pictures. This safari tour is friendly and appropriate for people of all ages. The topography might be uneven, but it doesn't stop people who have a fierce heart. You can do a lot of recreational activities here as well as horse riding, mountain biking, cycling, rock climbing, and many more.
Natural Scenic Sites
After walking uphill for 45 minutes, and crossing the small metal bridge over Kali Gandaki River, we can view the magnificent canyon similar to that of the USA's. Mustang is also home to one of the deepest gorges of Nepal. These places are great to capture pictures to cherish for a lifetime. The lower Mustang provides a fantastic view and allows you to walk through the beautiful rhododendron forests and Magnolia. You may also spot some species namely the snow leopard, musk deer, and some endangered species of reptiles, mammals, mollusks, and butterflies.
Town of Apple Orchard
The economy of Mustang relies on farming, tourism, and animals. It is also rich in apple fields and vegetation. And the apples of Marpha, Mustang are beloved by Nepalese from all over. The lush valley of the apples envelopes the pretty town surrounded by green, irrigated orchards. You must taste these apples as well as the apple pies, wine, and dried fruits.
Sightseeing Ancient Monasteries
You may visit the 500 years old monasteries and the age-old Kagbeni village. These places are visited by Hindus and Buddhists to offer prayer and to pay homage to their ancestors. The Tiji Festival is greatly influenced by Tibetan Buddhism and is a great way to observe a blend of both cultures as well. Also do not forget to try their local cuisine.

We enter well high above the tree line now so the vegetation gets sparser as we climb higher. Yak Kharka is a small and beautiful settlement established as a normal stopover place for the Annapurna circuit trekkers.

Welcome To Uptohimalaya.com
14 Most Celebrated Major Best Festivals in Nepal - Up To Himalaya
Festivals in Nepal
Nepal has festivals almost full year. People give primary importance to their festivals in Nepal. Here are the 14 most celebrated major best festivals in Nepal.
How to reach Kathmandu to Pokhara? All possible ways explained with pric
Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal; likewise, Pokhara is the most famous tourist destination in Nepal. Pokhara is also renowned for the name of adventure city of Nepal. It’s because of being a getaway of treks in the Annapurna region.
Adventure activities such as trekking, tour, paragliding, hot air ballooning are famous in Pokhara. Ranging from day hikes to a month-long trek is possible from Pokhara.
Some of the popular treks from Pokhara are Annapurna base camp trek, Poon Hill trek, upper Mustang trek, Annapurna circuit trek, etc. Annapurna treks are also the best trekking in Nepal.
It’s because of having only one international airport in Nepal at Kathmandu tourists have to land here at least once. It doesn’t matter whether they want to stay here or not.
Kathmandu to Pokhara is not a long journey; it’s just about 205 km. In this article, I am going to share various ways to reach Kathmandu to Pokhara.
Kathmandu to Pokhara By 30 minutes Domestic Regular Flight
The most comfortable & luxurious way to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu is by taking a 30 minutes domestic flight. Each day more than five flights will fly from Tribhuvan Internation Airport to Pokhara Airport. Flight is the best option for those who have fewer days of holiday and also for those who are not in a budget limit. Thirty minutes of scenic flight will also give you the opportunity to see the Himalayas without even starting to trek.
How much Kathmandu to Pokhara flight cost?
As we all know flight fare will change frequently. So it does not fare to say the exact cost, but it would be around $124 for one way. The flight fare will decrease during off seasons in Nepal that means the less popular season for trekking which is Summer and Winter season.
Note: Booking both way flight at once will be cheaper, but they will charge extra if you have to postpone the day to fly back later.
Where & How to book your flight to Pokhara from Kathmandu?
If you are visiting Nepal by buying some travel or trekking packages, then it would be better to request your travel planner to add flight cost too on a trip cost because it will be hassle-free for you and I bet they wont take any profits from flight cost because they are already taking on a trip.
If you are going to do trek individual or visiting Pokhara without booking any trip, then I recommend you to book your flight with either Buddha Air or with Yeti Air because they have regular flights every day & less chance of being a delay.
Festivals in Nepal
How can I book a cheap Kathmandu to Pokhara flight?
I am not sure, and I haven’t tried till now, but it’s a good idea to check at least once on Nepflights, and Nepalcheapflights because I heard that sometimes they would leave cheap fares on domestic flights.
Kathmandu to Pokhara By Road
As I already said Kathmandu to Pokhara is just about 205 km by road. Kathmandu to Pokhara by road will give you the opportunity to see beautiful countryside villages of Nepal as well as Nepali traffic jam too.
The benefit of going Kathmandu to Pokhara by road is it will be far cheaper than flights. Here is the various way to go Kathmandu to Pokhara by road.
Kathmandu to Pokhara By Private vehicle
Going Pokhara by Private vehicle is the best idea for those who are in a group & ready to share the cost. The benefit of hiring a private vehicle is you don’t need to wake up early at 6 AM to catch the regular tourist bus. And also you can stop wherever you want to eat lunch or for using restrooms.
A private vehicle will not stop at a place to take other passengers so that you will reach places on time. Roughly it will take around just 6 hours to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu if there are no traffic jams.
Where and how to book a private vehicle in Nepal to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu?
There are lots of travel agencies in Kathmandu they all can arrange Private vehicle to go Pokhara. I recommend you to visit at least five different travel agencies to get the best possible price.
Alternatively, you can directly ask with just a vehicle service providers too because from them you will get middle man free price if you directly book with them.
Here are some of the vehicle service providers in Kathmandu
1. Smile Car Rental
2. Overland Tours & Vehicle Service
3. Lama Tours Vehicle Service
How much will it cost to hire a private vehicle to go Kathmandu to Pokhara?
We all know that booking two-way transportation will be cheaper if you are going Pokhara for just a day or sightseeing around Pokhara only. Because the driver also doesn’t need to be back to Kathmandu without a passenger. You can book both way transportation by adding just a few more price on a one-way cost.
Here I m going to mention the price for both one way and two-way cost to go Pokhara from Kathmandu by car, jeep, taxi, Hiace or even big Tourist Bus.

A day Itinerary:
We will pick you in the morning from Kathmandu hotel and take you to tribhuvan international airport by our representatives. We will take you to private transportation. After doing check in we will wait some time to clear the weather or open airport. As soon as the weather clear we will be getting inside the helicopter to get ready for the journey of helicopter to base camp. We will be flying through the bhaktapur city passing the world town and then crossing the nagarkot villages then to junbensi village. Seeing the Himalayas ranges and villages we will reach lukla village which is situated on 2800 m elevation. We have tenzing Hillary airport on this town and we will be landing on airport.
Lukla airport is also the fueling stations for lots of helicopter. The helicopters keep the fuel there and fuel it on the way back. We will also keep some fuel on lukla airport and ready to fly towards namche villages passing phakding, monjo, jhorsella and Hillary suspension bridges. On reaching namche you can see the stunning village on the hill which is the Sherpa capital called namche village. Just above namche there will see sangbochea airport. Big helicopter land there as transportation and some flights too.We will just pass that airport and reach Everest view hotel. We ill leave two people there, if we have 5 people in flights because helicopter does not carry full people on high elevation.
After leaving some people we will start fly through the tengbochea Monetary and pangbochea village. We will pass ferichea village then laubecha village. After that we will pass gorekshap and then helicopter land on kalapather hill which is around 5380 meters elevation. This hill is known as kalapather view point and its highest point is 5550 meters. This is the same view point which is climbed by Everest base camp trekkers to see Everest close. We will get out from helicopter to see the Everest and spend some time on kalapather. We will click some stunning pictures and videos here. After spend around half and hour we will fly towards EBC. Only very rare conditions helicopter land in base camp but most of the time it fly over the base camp. Due to wind and glaciers move its always high risk to land on base-camp so, most of the flights avoids landing on base camp to be safe. Like the same way this flight also fly near khambu ice fall and fly very close to the ground of base camp and fly back through khambu glacier. We can see some Everest trekkers and in climbing season we can see lots of tents and people on base camp that’s why during climbing season helicopter do not go close to base-camp because risk for tents and people on base camp.
After living the dream to seeing base camp and Everest close we will fly back through ferichea, tengbochea and land on Everest vie hotel. Those who finish visit to base camp start having breakfast on Everest view hotel and the pilot fly again with other people doing the same things and coming back then have breakfast and start fly back to lukla where we will land and keep fuel on helicopter then fly all the way back seeing beautiful mountains and hill. Nepal Trek FAQ’s
1. YOUR TEAM
We organize private trek only, hence you will be accompanied by an English speaking Sherpa guide. However, please note these Sherpa guides are born and bought up in the remote mountain region of Nepal. Most of them are not even formally educated; hence they will be able to communicate in basic English only, however you will greatly appreciate their sense of humor.
You will then have porters as per the requirement. You are required to carry a rucksack with personal belongings such as a camera, your passport and the things that you require. The rest of the things will be carried by the porters. The porters will walk at a fast pace and you will meet them at trek endpoints, each day, be sure that you have all the required items in your rucksack.
The Sherpa guide will be with you all along. Our Sherpa guides are very experienced, hence request you to follow all the instructions given by him for a safer trek.
2. TIPS
The Sherpa guide and porter, who will be along with you, do expect few tips, though it will never be demanded. These people are from the very poor background; hence tips are also their source of income.
It is totally up to you to reward Sherpa guide/Porters after the service is over, the amount may depend on how satisfied you are from the overall service provided by them.
3. EMERGENCY
In case of emergencies, our Sherpa guide will do anything to help you. However, you should have the travel insurance from your home country that covers medical and emergency repatriation, including Helicopter evacuation, in the eventuality of serious illness or accident or if clients are stranded in remote areas due to unexpected bad weather conditions.
4. MEALS
All the meals during the trek will be included in your package. However, please note that in the mountain region, there will only be less variety of food available. You will be offered a fixed meal planned by your Sherpa guide.
The breakfast will comprise a cup of tea/coffee, cereal, egg & bread/toast. The lunch will include the main course (fried rice/dal bhat/noodles/macaroni/potatoes) & tea/coffee only. The dinner will comprise of soup, one main course, dessert and a cup of tea/coffee.
Any additional consumption over the regular menu will incur extra cost and will have to be paid by you. Lunch will always be light, consisting of vegetarian items only. Non- veg dinner will be provided twice a week. We recommend carrying a bottled mineral water for drinking.
5. NATIONAL PARK, PERMITS
All these fees are already included in your tour cost. We will require your scanned copies of passport in advance (before your arrival to Kathmandu) so that we can start processing the permit in advance. After you arrive in Kathmandu we will collect your 2 photographs and by the same evening or the next morning we will hand over your required permits.
However, if you are trekking in the restricted areas such as upper Mustang, Dolpa, the trek permits for these regions will be advised separately and will not be included in your trek cost. The amount should be paid after you arrive in Nepal. However, there is the video charge of USD 100 per video camera in all national parks which must be paid directly.
6. ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation during treks will be very basic. We request clients not to have high expectation. As you move to the higher altitude, you may even have to share the dormitories and toilets. The accommodation in these regions cannot be booked in advance; hence our guide will try their level best to accommodate you in the best available lodge in the area.
7. EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
No special equipment will be required for trekking in Nepal. You will be trekking through well-established trails. However, we recommend you to bring good down jacket to keep you warm, hiking boot with perfect ankle support, fleece jacket and quality sleeping bags, water bottle. Sleeping bags can also be hired from Kathmandu though will not be very clean.
8. EXPERIENCE
You will not require any experience for the trekking. However, you should be physically fit to walk in an uneven terrain for at least 5-6 hours a day.
9. PHYSICAL FITNESS
Trekking in the mountain region of Nepal will involve walking over uneven terrain. This can prove physically tiring, especially as the altitude increases. The best thing to do is start with basic exercises, walking up and down. If you have a busy time, then, you should train yourself with exercise machines.
Trekking puts much effort in the quadriceps muscle in front of the thigh hence do start with walking and jogging at least a month prior to your trek. Take stairs whenever possible instead of lifts/elevators.

Manaslu Circuit Trek – An Absolute Remote Trek
More often than not, when somebody thinks of hiking in the Himalayas in Nepal, they refer to Base Camps. As a matter of fact, Nepal feature close to 4,000 mountains above 5,500m including, of course, the world's highest peak, Mt. Everest at 8,848m.
Since you probably already know about EBC (Everest Base Camp) or Annapurna Base Camp, the 2 most popular & widely explored in Nepal, we thought to provide you info regarding the eighth tallest mountain in the earth Mount Manaslu & its base camp. You may even have heard about Ghorepani Poonhill Trek as well as Upper mustang trek.
Where’s Mount Manaslu:
Placed in the northern Himalayan range in Nepal’s Gorkha District, Mount Manaslu stands tall as the eighth highest mountain the globe. Climbing & trekking this mountain aren’t as widely known as other base camps, but it’s gaining huge fame particularly for those who like remote & off the beaten paths. In fact, the base camp is exceedingly remote that it’s only feasible to reach the jump off point by private 4x4 jeep or a local bus.
Why it’s called as Manaslu Circuit Trek rather than Manaslu Base Camp:
For EBC & ABC treks, the concluding point of the hike are the base camps, and then from here you come back to your jump start point. However, for Mt Manaslu, it’s diverse. As a matter of fact, Manaslu Base Camp trek is recognized by the name Manaslu Circuit Trek. For Manaslu Circuit Trek, you’re making a cringle in your trek where you begin in Sotikhola or Arughat, come to the sum Valley, halt by Manaslu Base Camp, come across Larke pass & then conclude your hike in Besi Sahar in the Annapurna province. Nonetheless, in Base Camp trek, these are usually your prime destination & then you typically come back to where you begun. However, for a circuit hike, the beginning point & end point are always diverse.
What’s the usual Manaslu Base Camp trek itinerary?
Relying on the rest-day & side trips, Manaslu trek schedule may varry between 14-22 days. If the hike takes place sometime from June-early September, then minimum trek is 17 days. The number of days also relies upon the side trips you want to opt for. For instance, some of the feasible side trips throughout the hike are Manaslu Base Camp, Birendra Lake & the Tibetan border. There’s also the Tsum Valley side trip during Manaslu trek which’s recommended highly by several hikers.
The ideal time of the year to go to Manaslu is in October, November, March and April where the 14 days Manaslu trek is good enough as the road state can push your itinerary a few days ahead.
