Here are some top projects from New York’s Top Interior Designers
Tumblr media
New York is a dream city for many people, including design lovers. Known as the Design Capital of the United States of America it’s no wonder that this city is still seen as a powerful design center and creative hub for many of its top interior designers. Today we’re having a closer look at some of these designer’s projects.
Peter Marino
One of the historical names of North-American and New York’s Interior Design is Peter Marino. He founded the Peter Marino Architect PLLC, an internationally acclaimed architecture, planning, and design studio that also has several offices around the United States of America in major cities like Philadelphia or Miami. That’s why this worldwide celebrated designer is widely considered one of the Top Designers of the World and his services are requested by the most iconic names in the fashion, businesses and art industries!
Marino and Bulgari have also been collaborating for years, with the designer being responsible for the projects of several Bulgari’s Stores around the Planet. We’ve picked one of his biggest accomplishments during this partnership: the renovation of Bulgari’s flagship store on the iconic New York’s Fifth Avenue. The project was a powerful challenge to Marino and which was why he released his full creative vein and ended up producing a stunning end result.
Rockwell Group
The Rockwell Group is known for creating some of the most extraordinary designs all around the world. Aside from being one of the biggest employers of Interior Designers and Architects in the United States, they’re currently hiring over 250 people in its offices in New York, Madrid, and Shanghai. This group specializes in a wide array of work from luxury hospitality, cultural, and healthcare projects, to educational, product, and set design.
The group has won a couple of awards having some of their projects featured on some of the Best Design Magazines in the World! A good example of their minimalistic is the Hotel brand Yotel which has opened a flagship branch in New York’s Times Square. Visitors check in through computerized  kiosks while their luggage is stored or retrieved by a giant robotic arm.

Jonathan Adler
Jonathan Adler launched his first ceramic collection in 1993 at Barneys New York. Five years later he expanded into home furnishings, opening his first namesake boutique in Manhattan. Right now he has 26 stores worldwide, an e-commerce site, and a wholesale business with over 1,000 locations worldwide. Aside from ceramics, Jonathan Adler Enterprises has expanded to become a designer brand in a service which provides decorative objects, tabletop collections, bedding, bath accessories, gifts, candles, furniture, rugs, pillows, lighting, and most recently handbags.
His inspirations come mostly from Mid-Century Modern Style, and also from Art and Global Pop. One of the finest examples of a mix of these two factors is his 2009 project for Mattel. Adler was asked to design the modern-glam interiors for the “real” Barbie Dream House as part of Barbie’s 50th anniversary!
Michael S. Smith
Michael S. Smith is currently one of the most respected and original talents in the North-American Design Industry. His design firm, Michael S Smith Inc, was launched in 1990 in NYC. It has, since then, been expanding from projects solely for private clients to his line of fine furniture and fabrics named “Jasper”. Smith’s style can be best defined as being a blend of European classicism and American modernism: fresh, evolving and marked by the belief that everyone should live with things they love.
Probably one of the most talked about projects from Smith is the one he produced for the Obamas at the White House. It mixed the Classic Style of the White House Building with a Modern look of the Obamas a mix made clear in the Modern Living Room that Smith produced. The Smith-Obama collaboration progressed in much the same way as any typical designer-client relationship. The end result, as you can see, was stunning.
  Ryan Korban
Ryan Korban has jumped to the spotlight of the Design Industry having made several headlines due to his work and style. There’s also his style of aesthetic, characterized by a mix of luxury, old-world romance, and urban cool! Inspired by figures such as Monet paintings to Helmut Newton photographs, he creates seductive, wondrous spaces that surpass trend to redefine traditional design for a new generation.
One of those projects was for Top Fashion brand Balenciaga, in which he designed it’s the stunning flagship store in New York following a Black, Modern and Eclectic Look! In this initiative, he didn’t overlook the optimal use of Marble, one of the Trends of the New Decade, producing a Store’s Design Spirit that matches the Balenciaga’s fashion statements!

Bunny Williams
Bunny Williams opened her interior design company in 1988, after over 20 years of working for a decorating studio Parish-Hadley Associates. Since launching herself with a solo career, Bunny has also managed to launch a collection of furniture and accessories known as Bunny Williams Home. This collection includes side tables, lamps, chairs, case pieces, upholstery, mirrors, coffee and drinks tables.
Even though Bunny Williams isn’t as active as she was on her early professional years, she stills leads some stunning projects of her studio. One of them is of Miss William’s very own house, so you can be sure that the vision of that specific vintage/ luxury decor is indeed the vision of Bunny Williams! The images in question are quite reflective of her style.
Thomas O’Brien
Thomas O’Brien is the founder and President of Aero Studios, currently known as one of America’s leading design firms. He’s also the current owner of Aero Ltd., the iconic home boutique that is the retail face of the studio, open to the public at the same address.
When it comes to highlighting some of O’Brien’s projects we’ve picked this chic 5th Avenue apartment decor. It is presented with a more classical style by paying tribute to the past glam of New York. This project perfectly fits the 5th Avenue style and spirit!

7 Weatherproof Patio Design Tips for Decor That Stands the Test of Time
stevecoleimages/iStock
Ah, summertime—and the pleasant prospect of sipping iced tea (or, let’s be honest, a refreshing mint julep) on the porch. But you’d never relax there in a wooden rocker with your feet on a needlepoint stool, right? Savvy homeowners know that outdoor rooms require decor that can withstand the elements—not random pieces you’ve dragged up from the basement.
Indeed, designing for your porch or patio is arguably trickier than designing any room inside your house. You’re walking a tightrope to make it elegant yet comfortable—and durable so that you’re not buying new furniture every spring. Don’t despair! We’ve got what you need to master this space. Check out these seven tips for stylish porch decor that won’t rust, tarnish, melt, or fall apart.
1. Be wary of metal
This metal does not rock.

The first lesson in the science of porch decor is to choose metal pieces carefully, particularly if you live in an area where the air is salty. (Hello, beach towns!) You can have some metal, but only if it’s rust-resistant, such as wrought iron, or has been treated with Rust-Oleum. But everything else opens you up to problems down the road.
“This includes screws, frames, hardware—anything metal will oxidize, rust, and discolor quickly and destroy the design,” says Kimberly Paulus, interior decorator and owner of Dec Den Interiors Fort Bend County, in Texas.
2. Acrylic and high-density plastic is king

So if metal’s out, what’s in? Acrylic’s the answer. The clear plastic that looks like glass is the darling of porch design.
“Don’t let its airy appearance fool you—it’s actually an incredibly durable material and a great contrast to traditional wicker, rattan, and iron,” says Bea Pila of B. Pila Design, in Miami. And the translucent factor allows your gaze to travel easily to the yard or garden, she adds.
Carole Marcotte, the design genius behind Form & Function, in Raleigh, NC, prefers outdoor furniture made from recycled high-density plastic products.
“It’s widely available, practically indestructible, and comes in lots of colors,” she notes.
Wicker, while fine, is a cleaning nightmare. “Pollen settles into all those nooks and crannies, so I’d rather have low-maintenance furniture,” she says.
3. Know your fabric facts
Look for these key words when shopping for outdoor pillows and upholstery: waterproof, washable, and mildew- and fade-resistant.
“Acetate-based fabrics are perfectly durable and made in such a way that you can’t tell the difference between them and indoor versions,” Pila notes.
Outdoor fabrics will last a good while, especially if you store them inside when it rains, Marcotte adds. “Or they can be left outside indefinitely on a covered porch.”
4. Ceiling fans will be your salvation
Photo by Houzz You can’t always count on a natural breeze, so consider a ceiling fan to stir up the air and cool off your space during the dog days of summer.
“A fan can help extend the useful season of your outdoor space,” Paulus says. Plus, not only does a fan cool the air, it can also keep mosquitoes from landing on your guests and push barbecue smoke into the yard.
And whether you want design that’s elegant, rustic, or somewhere in between, the looks are endless.
“Today’s homeowners can choose from a vast selection of styles, including brushed bronze, distressed walnut, and more,” says David Gray, sales manager in the professional division at Lamps Plus.
Really want to cool things off? Consider a misting fan or system that can be set up along your porch ceiling or pergola.
5. Find the right floor coverings
Photo by Scot Meacham Wood Design Rugs have their own special category when it comes to outdoor design (yup, there’s lots to keep in mind).
“Carpets made from synthetic fibers like nylon, rayon, polyester, or acrylic are generally waterproof, stain-resistant, and easy to clean,” explains Craig Jenkins-Sutton, co-founder and president of Topiarius, a gardening and landscaping design firm in Chicago.
You’ll want to look for a rug that’s 100% polypropylene and has a tag that says it’s UV-stabilized, which means the rug will resist mildew, mold, and fading.
Have a wood porch or deck?
“Look for floor coverings made from recycled plastics, as they trap less water and are less apt to cause wood to rot than natural fibers,” he advises.
6. When it comes to art, sculptures survive
Photo by Miyuki Yamaguchi Design Studio
If you want to go all in with your outdoor space and add some art, choose wisely: Your decorative touches will have to endure some wind and rain.
“Canvas pieces will suffer outside, so I lean toward sculptural works,” Pila says.
Traditional materials include stone and steel, though glass is a good option, too. “You can also take a dramatic piece of driftwood or petrified wood and place it on a pedestal,” Pila adds.
“Metal wall hangings, metal mirrors, ceramic candle sconces and garden sculptures will all weather well on a porch or patio,” Marcotte adds. (Remember to choose a material that’s rust-resistant.)
7. Weigh it down
Photo by Elad Gonen Flimsy candlesticks and plastic platters won’t stand a chance when the breeze picks up. Instead, look for accessories that have weight, Paulus says.
“Clay pots, even if they’re hand-painted, will stand up to the wind,” she notes. Stone planters, metal lanterns, and heavy decorative trays also fit the bill.
