She Crab Soup

January is often hailed as the unofficial National Soup Month. With the freezing rain we have been getting here in Iowa, it is not hard to see why!

One, possibly more adventurous, option is soup made from crab. In this case, the fresher the better, because this treasured family recipe demands that the crab be caught no more then two hours before cooking!

The book was made in Spartanburg South Carolina : Kitemaug Press. As you can see from the images above, this mini book is an attempt to keep a secret recipe alive without being cursed for revealing the real source of the recipe!

Why not take some time to make some recipes that have been passed down from your family this month--or make some new traditions!

Annah's Angles

Today I want to talk about, “Annah’s Angels”. Now I have a pretty good understanding of how the body works. I generally know when I have an ailment what it is going to take to get me back into shape, and typically I can avoid going to the doctor! Often times when I do go see my Doc, it’s because I need her to write a prescription for something I can’t get. I often go in, let her look me over, and then tell her what prescriptions I need, we discuss, and sometimes she offers something new, but often She writes the script for what I state.

This morning, I stand awestruck, I have been surrounded by a team for the last 12 days that have been anointed by God. This isn’t just any anointing, they have a special gifting to know and understand the limits of the body in a way I have never seen before!

As many of you know, We’re at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, in the “PCICU/PICU”! We are with our daughter Annah. Tuesday morning Annah had heart surgery, they put in a shunt to keep blood flow to her lungs. Wednesday morning she crashed, and had to go on full life support.

Let me stop there, I want to elaborate - I watched a team of about 20 plus Doctors, Nurses and 2 surgeons, perform CPR on my baby girl for about 45 mins, their records show it was for over an hour…. Based on what I had seen at other times in my life, she was gone, Most other teams would of given up before this, but God had sent us here.

You see when most people think of Angels we think of the heavenly beings that have wings! But I have experienced a special group of Angels that work tirelessly day and night to care for and watch over the little ones that come through the NICU AND PICU/PCICU at the U of I in Iowa City! Most of them don’t have wings, but they should… If you walk through the halls here you can see them, they won’t keep hidden from your sight! You can see them in the physical realm, but I know they have someone in the spiritual realm working through them, even if they don’t realize it!

They are more than eager to reach out and comfort you, but even more so they quietly watch, and do what is needed to for the little ones in their care! They have brought the dead back to life on more than one occasion. Most of them can be found wearing green, some wear red, a select few have a white coat. But they are Angels, every single one of them! God has anointed them to do his work, saving and caring the little ones that come through the doors here!

Today, and for the past several days they have been “Annah’s Angels”, the ones God has assigned to her for now! My hat will always be off to them! I will always be grateful for the hour they stood watch over my little girl! I thank God for them, and ask God’s blessing over every one!

All of you that have been praying, the ones that have spoken a small word to the prayer warriors that have fought in the heavenlies for her, I consider you part of her team of Angels as well, we will be forever grateful for the prayers you have and are continuing to make! May God bless all of you! To Lori Ulrich, thank you for the title, but I have to say I was already thinking of them as Annah’s Angels!!! Thank you for all you have done for us during this time.... Annah is still in critical care and still needs lots of prayer, but We wanted to give a shout of thanks as she made it off life support today, next hurdle staying stable for at least 24 hours ( most critical time), and then fully breathing on her own!
