There's so many variations of "Things about Humans/Things Humans do that gross/creep out the Transformers". What would they find interesting about humans that we may not necessarily think much of? Hair is definitely up there I'd say.
That humans can't see their own stripes since they are only visible under ultraviolet light.
They're called Blaschko lines, and they're as unique as fingerprints. They can be visible with skin disorders.
Tumblr media
Some people can figure out their pattern if they have a tendency to freckle from sunlight. Others claim they figured theirs out by following mole placement.
So Cybertronians would be absolutely fascinated by humans walking around with their markings and completely boggled that they can't see them. At one point, they thought flannel, zebra stripes, cheetah print, and other fun patterns were some sort of fashion statement along with their Blaschko lines. Cybertronians thought it was abstract art that delighted some and infuriated others because of incongruent matches.
Hair wouldn't be too strange to them as long, thin strands of wires were a fashion statement and a status symbol at some points. It's just that human 'fur' doesn't fulfill its primary function of warmth. It's the secondary functions that humans fuss over. Some hairstyles are absolutely wild to them, like the pouf style of Marie Antoinette's era with ships and bird cages with live specimens.
Cybertronians are rightfully concerned over humanity's collective urge to adopt dangerous fauna as pets or to keep in their household. Canines and felines are popular, but so are reptiles, arachnids, avians, and sea predators. Humans have no fangs, claws, or exoskeleton, but they feel compelled to take poisonous, venomous, and/or proficient hunters into their arms.
Humanity's history of agriculture and culinary explorations are multi-tiered mental fuckery mazes. It brought many mechs to tears trying to trace the impact of the cabbage family across the world. Fungi is another field that the less is delved into, the better their mental health. (Who!? Who the Pits came up with Hákarl!?)
What's really fascinating about human biology is just how resilient they can be. Sure, they can squish one with their foot, but humans manage to figure out how to survive without major organs with medical intervention, which is far more metal than some other organic species they deal with. What's really gross-curious is the extent, like how a bone graft will attempt to match the skeleton of its new host or how their resiliency can backfire with medical conditions, like autoimmune diseases and cancers. (Teratoma was a freaky thing to them. An unwanted extra mass that could grow teeth, bones, and hair within it!?)
Food intolerances confuse them. Especially since individuals with lactose intolerance have no fear of any culinary deity. Whatever sins committed is a wretched pact between that human and the toilet.
Another confusing aspect is the constant debate of a soul among humans. Popular arguments are the heart, stomach, and brain/mind. Meanwhile, the Cybertronian 'soul' isn't a philosophical debate. It's a physical reality with their spark.

Nature’s Touch: Using Bird Wallpapers to Create a Serene Home Environment
In the realm of interior design, the inclusion of nature’s elements can transform a simple living space into a sanctuary of peace and beauty. Among the various ways to bring nature indoors, decorating with bird wallpaper is a unique and enchanting option. The presence of birds in interior design not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of a room but also fosters a serene and calming environment. This blog explores how bird-themed wallpapers can be utilized to create a tranquil home setting, focusing on popular trends such as bird wallpaper UK styles.
Tumblr media
The Allure of Birds in Design
Birds have always been symbols of freedom, grace, and beauty. Integrating bird wallpaper into your home décor brings these elements inside, adding a dynamic and vibrant touch to the walls. Whether you opt for delicate watercolour sparrows or vivid tropical parrots, birds for wallpaper offer an immediate connection to the natural world. This aspect is particularly appealing in urban environments where nature is not readily accessible.
Choosing the Right Bird Wallpaper
When selecting a bird wallpaper, consider the mood and atmosphere you wish to create. For a soothing retreat, wallpapers with soft pastel hues and gentle bird motifs are ideal. These subtle designs can make a space feel more open and airy. On the other hand, if you’re looking to make a bold statement, opt for wallpaper featuring birds in vibrant colours and exotic species.
Tumblr media
Types of Bird Wallpapers
Classic Aviary Prints: These typically feature a variety of birds perched amongst lush foliage and are perfect for creating a vintage or classical look.
Minimalist Designs: For a modern home, minimalist bird wallpapers with abstract or geometric representations of birds can add a contemporary flair without overwhelming the space.
Photorealistic Murals: Large-scale murals of bird scenes can turn a wall into a stunning focal point, making it feel as if one has a window to a serene outdoor scene.
Incorporating Bird Wallpaper in Different Rooms
Living Room: A mural of birds on wallpaper can serve as a captivating backdrop for your living room. Choose a wall that receives ample natural light to enhance the vibrancy of the wallpaper’s colours.
Bedroom: In the bedroom, bird bedroom wallpaper with calming colours like blues, greens, and earth tones can help create a restful atmosphere. Patterns with flying birds can add a sense of movement and freedom.
Children’s Room: Bright and cheerful bird wallpaper designs can stimulate the imagination of young minds. Opt for playful and colourful patterns that make the room fun and inviting.
Bathroom: Waterproof bird bathroom wallpaper can add an element of surprise and sophistication to a bathroom. Small, intricate patterns work well in smaller spaces.
Styling Tips for Bird Wallpaper
Complementary Colors: Choose furniture and textiles in colours that complement your bird wallpaper to create a cohesive look. For instance, if your wallpaper features bluebirds, consider decor items in shades of blue or neutral tones to match.
Mixing Patterns: If your bird wallpaper is bold and busy, balance it with more subdued patterns elsewhere in the room, such as a striped rug or polka-dot cushions.
Accessorizing: Accessories like bird figurines, feather motifs, and natural wood elements can enhance the theme without making it feel overwhelming.
Tumblr media
Bird Wallpaper UK Trends
In the UK, the trend for bird wallpaper is leaning towards both traditional and contemporary designs. Vintage patterns reminiscent of English country gardens are as popular as modern abstract interpretations of avian themes. Many UK-based designers and stores offer a range of bird white wallpapers that reflect both local wildlife and exotic species, catering to a variety of tastes and interior styles.
Conclusion
Bird wallpaper is a beautiful and effective way to bring a slice of the natural world into your home and create a tranquil space where you can unwind and relax. Whether you’re drawn to the charm of English garden birds or the exotic allure of jungle avians, there’s a bird wallpaper to suit every decorating desire and style. With bird tropical wallpaper, every day can feel a little closer to nature, turning your home into a peaceful retreat that celebrates the beauty and diversity of our feathered friends.

It was a relief to finally see something other than guarded sharpness in those unique eyes. Hieu visibly relaxed when Id shifted the hair from his face, showing him his features in near-entirety, though he gained a confused little look when it was mentioned that he wasn't 'hiding anymore'. Id reminded him of Wrex in some ways; confrontational, but only in an effort to measure the mettle of those around him. It wasn't a true challenge, it was a test.
At the question, Hieu let his arms fall back to his sides, looking northeastward. "The Alliance will be here soon, and we'll go from there, but right now, I figured you could use a better meal and a shower." He waved for Id to follow, and began to walk in the direction he'd been looking. "I have a ship called the Normandy. She's outfitted with amenities for my crew, but I'm happy to share them with you, and I'll make sure my crew treats you well."
Parked down the far end of a Prothean corridor was a six-wheeled all-terrain armored vehicle. It was about the size of a tank, and also had a top-mounted canon. Painted white, red, and black, the worn print of the code 'M35' was on its cab's side.
Standing next to it was another human, dark-toned and black-haired. He stood at a shorter height than Hieu, with a somewhat thinner frame. His armor was on the lighter side as well, marked with patches of slate camouflage. He was checking the tires with a glowing gauntlet projected over his right hand. Behind him stood a tall humanoid with avian-like features. His armor was uniquely shaped to his body, covered with heavy plating. A glowing visor covered his left eye, and he was entering in some sort of date onto a tablet. Neither of them had seen them approaching, yet.
Id crossed his arms right back, sandals still far too casually hanging from one of his fingers as he matched Hieu's posture. Authority in title was hardly intimidation. Especially because, of course, Hieu had no good answers yet, and normally that'd probably make him more irritable than he already was.
But Hieu had guts. For the first time since this little back and forth game started with that push back in the cell, Hieu was starting to show some teeth when he was pushed. Which made him infinitely more fun. Squirreling scientists and cowardly guards were annoying. Hieu had substance. Finally.
And so after a moment of the dull glow of his eyes peering at Hieu, glowering unimpressed and irreverently at him as the distance between them was closed ever so slightly… Id actually smiled. It was small, and subtle, and might’ve been easy to miss if he didn’t huff out a little laugh. Play hard, get hit hard? Practically his motto, and his eyes lit up with excitement. “Good. I’d hate to be disappointed.”
He looked back at Weltall as the lights flickered back on all over its body. “He can charge enough to move on his own for now. Don’t worry, he plays nice as long as I do.” He smirked. “I will tell your people what they need to do their work. That’s fair.” He nodded like he was agreeing to changing the rules of a game rather than actual negotiations. But he was at ease knowing that at the very least Hieu had promised he would not be touched without permission.
He caught that word choice, too. Honestly was carrying a lot of weight, but that was okay. “I know you’ll have lie. Everyone does, especially the ones in uniform.” He looked back at Hieu slyly, but his gaze was no longer acidic, just more accepting as if it was simply truth. “But… we will both get the basics and see what happens.”
There was a pause, then another slight smile that danced the line between genuine and maybe a little off-putting. The exact same face as Fei, but so different in expression and carry that it was impossible to mistake one for the other. “… Deal.” He cocked his head before moving to pull his hair out of his face and tuck it behind his ear, finally exposing most of the person looking back at Hieu in a tepid show of openness. It was as close to a handshake as he was willing to give. “Haha, I like you now. You’re not hiding anymore.”
But now was a bigger question. “What do we do now, then?” He furrowed his brows, less aggressively this time. He knew Hieu was not stupid enough to suggest that he wait in the cell again, especially after giving his word.

Birds and the Birth of Commercial Color Printing
Tumblr media
In celebration of Bird Day, we are featuring a set of ornithological volumes written by the self-taught Scottish polymath Robert Mudie (1777-1842). The Feathered Tribes of the British Islands (1834) served as a handbook for the average literate British bird enthusiast of the early nineteenth century. But what really makes the first edition of this work remarkable is it contains a landmark in Western book history: a specimen of the first color-printed illustration made using a commercially viable process.
Tumblr media
To appreciate the gravity of this achievement, it may help to take a step further back in history. Johannes Gutenberg’s famous printing press of the mid-fifteenth century may have revolutionized the production and spread of textual knowledge, but it came with a cost. The printing technology of the time simply could not replicate the masterful paintings that illustrated medieval manuscripts. At best, a skilled printer could print in two colors by running the same sheet through the press twice: once for black ink and once for red. Even then, getting different colored elements to register (that is, to be properly aligned on the page) was challenging. If the early modern bibliophile wanted to add some color, they would have to commission artists to embellish their texts, which was quite an expensive undertaking. If we may use a modern metaphor, imagine paying your dream team of comic book pencillers and inkers to custom-illustrate the margins of your unillustrated copy of Lord of the Rings. For some breathtaking examples of illuminated incunabula (early printed books with medieval illustration), check out this blog from Trinity College Library, Cambridge: https://trinitycollegelibrarycambridge.wordpress.com/2017/10/25/italian-illuminated-incunabula/.
Unsurprisingly, color gradually drained from Western books in favor of sleek black and white copper-plate engravings that used cross-hatching to add dimension to illustrations. Hand-colored images remained a luxury. Yet some still held out hope that color illustration could be reproduced via the printing process. Enter English printer and artist George Baxter (1804-1867).
Tumblr media
Beginning the late 1820s, Baxter experimented with color printing methods. By the time he collaborated with Robert Mudie in the early 1830s, he had developed a system in which he used a steel key plate inked in black to make a monochrome print and then added each color separately using a series of wood and metal (copper and zinc) blocks. Baxter’s process allowed him to apply up to 20 different colors, each requiring a different block, and ever the perfectionist, he would not print more than two colors per day in order to allow drying time between impressions and thereby produce a cleaner image. Among the first subjects Baxter published using his color printing technology is a vignette featuring a pair of dippers and nest that appears on the title-page of Feathered Tribes volume 1. For comparison with traditional color illustration, we’ve included a copy of the same vignette that was hand-colored in the third edition.
Tumblr media

Coloring in book illustration can have a profound impact on how people experience an illustrated text. It influences the reader’s imagining of events in a narrative text. For books of a more scientific nature, like the featured ornithological handbook, coloring can affect learning about the natural world. After all, so many birds are distinctive because of their uniquely colored plumage, and Robert Mudie created Feathered Tribes so that British inhabitants could identify and better enjoy their avian compatriots:
“... if [Feathered Tribes] shall continue, as I am told it has hitherto done, to send its readers to the haunts of birds to observe and study them there, I shall have accomplished a task which is to me far more delightful than if I had won the greenest laurels which are to be obtained in the field of literature and science.” (From Robert Mudie’s “Note to the Second Edition” of The Feathered Tribes of the British Islands.)
To conclude, what follows is an assortment of hand-colored plates from Mudie’s work. Enjoy, and have a Happy Bird Day!

For the hc ask game: 10 for c!Tommy!
y'know what? i've got several, actually-
-tailorinnit. just. Tailorinnit.
-c!tommy would put a little bit of uniqueness into all the l'manberg uniforms. to represent the member it was for (y'know those hcs where c!tommy made the uniforms himself? yeah). these included:
wing slits in the back for wilbur (cause i hc c!wil to be an avian like c!phil).
due to the fact that i hc that most members of the server are nonhuman (and most of them are hybrids of some sort), tubbo, fundy, and tommy don't have normal legs. so, tommy tried to make the pants fit better (as well as put holes for their tails).
c!eret's outfit, cause i like to put symbolism and foreshadowing into stuff (regardless of it was canon or not), was made to almost look and feel like a king's outfit. c!tommy just thought the look suited them...
c!tommy likes to embroider little designs into people's outfits. c!wilbur had music notes and feathers. c!fundy had little scale-like patterns as well as a trans flag patch. c!tubbo had flowers and bees. c!eret had shiny stuff sewn in. c!tommy had paw prints and stuff.
(also, less something that c!tommy did, but c!fundy, c!tubbo, and c!tommy don't wear boots due to, y'know, paws and hooves.)
-speaking of embroidering: the Friend Cardigan. my c!tommy design Did have it (isn't wearing it currently so that You Know Who won't steal it or ruin it). c!tommy embroidered bees, alliums, and various other designs into it.
-c!tommy is pretty good at drawing in my opinion. he just hasn't been able to draw something that Isn't vent related in. Quite A While.
-y'know what? f**k it. he likes to write poetry sometimes. the type of poetry i can imagine him writing is stuff along the lines of like. sayori's poems in ddlc. like, at first it sounds like something pretty happy or exciting (or just something that you'd Expect that person to write), but if you read into it, it's just...you're beginning to wonder if that person's okay or not (spoiler alert: He's Definitely Not).
-he was (and is) that kid who liked to mix paints and colors a lot while doing art.
that's all i've got!

Mail-Call! Hawks x OC: PT.1
Summary: A foreign woman working as a mail courier with a Griffin quirk walks into Hawks agency delivering fan-mail for the number #2 hero, who mistakes the woman for his new intern.
---------------------------
Orange eye curiously scanned the red and yellow walls and bird motifs decorating the Hawks agency's lobby with mild curiosity it vaguely reminded Ayla of a bird themed knock-off of McDonald's of course that was just her opinion... No need to say it out loud! the brunette hummed as she approached the front desk digging through her mailbag, the lady at the desk was filing her nails while watching random videos on the computer with this perpetual bored expression on her face slowly morphed into a sugary sweet fake costumer service smile, that Canadian woman has become familiar with these past couple months... Without hesitation the winged woman returned the gesture flashing her fangs in the process, Ayla didn't miss the way desk lady's smile faltered for that split second before letting out a snarky.
"Can I help you?"
"Yeah, I've got a couple dozen pieces of Fan-mail for a Mr...Hawks?"
"We actually have a mail slot outside..." The woman said in a condescending tone, Causing Ayla's wings to puff up and her tail to whip around, "Yes, I know. However it seems to be overpacked." the brunette huffed gesturing to the large pile of gifts, letters and clothes jammed in the slot.
Which caused...Megumi if that nametag's correct, to finally pull her head out from her ass and look over her desk to see the the mayhem she left piling up during her shift...
She started stammering as Ayla watched her rush out from behind the desk and trying to sort through all the mail, leaving the griffin woman to stand awkwardly to the side.
After a few minutes it became clear Megumi wasn't making a dent in that pile; Ayla opted to just leave the mail she brought in on the desk and just leave, however before she could take a step Ayla ears picked up on foot prints coming up behind her and sensed someone about to grab her!
Past anxiety and Instinct overtook rationality and without hesitation the brunette whirled around fist at the ready and sung! only for her punch to be caught by a a gloved hand, orange eyes met gold as Ayla finally got a look at the person invading her space.
He was tall handsome and had blond hair, he had cocky air to him, but what was most eye catching to Ayla was the two crimson wings on his back. unbeknownst to the griffin woman was that this stranger was assessing her too, he seemed particularly interested in the hawk wings on her lower back, there was tense silence before 'Red-wings' as Ayla had dubbed the blond man finally spoke up. "Well, they weren't joking when they said your quirk was unique, but they never said you had wings!" he exclaimed jubilantly the brunette's brow furrowed in bemusement as the winged man let go of her fist and started circling the confused courier, her cat ears flattened nervously as her wings folded close to her hips as he took notes her quirk's avian and feline characteristics.
"So, what is this? are you a cat or a hawk?"
"uh...m-My Quirk's called griffin...w-what is-"
"Like the myth?"
"Y-yeah what is this about- hey!"
Without a word Red-wings started dragging Ayla to elevator causing the Canadian woman to nervously look at her watch, then back outside toward her mail-truck praying it doesn't get towed or ticketed, "Excuse me, but what exactly is this-" the elevator dinged before she could why he was taking her upstairs, that how Ayla found herself sitting in Hawks office while he had his feathers flying offering her snacks and drinks which she declined, then he asked why she wanted to be a hero? and call her Taiyama-san.
The Canadian woman's eyes widened as she realized what was happening here. "o-oh...I think you may have mistaken me for someone else, my name is -" before Ayla could finish the office door opened  and Hawks secretary walked in with a red haired woman wearing a costume with a spiderweb design, the brunette could see the hearts in the redhead's eyes as she hungrily eyed Hawks.
"Sorry for our tardiness, I was just showing Taiyama-san around the office." the secretary explained as he gestured to the woman next to him who excitedly rushed over and started vigorously shaking Hawks hand. "I'm Taiyama Yuna, and look forward to working with you!~" she said with purr in her voice the winged hero looked confused his brow furrowed as his eyes went from Taiyama to griffin girl.
"Wait, you're Taiyama-san?" the woman nodded while blushing that Hawks called her by her name. "Than whose this?" he gestured to Ayla who shifted awkwardly in her seat as all eyes were now on her. "As was saying before, my name is Ayla McCoy, I'm not here to intern..." She said walking over to the opened balcony door. "Or interested in being a hero at all really... " she step on to the railing and looked back at Hawks stood up a bit straighter.
"I'm just a civvy trying to make livin' in this crazy world! Later gator!" she saluted him before jumping off the balcony backwards and flew down to her truck leaving Hawks speechless as he resisted to urge to follow her, but he remembered he had the real Taiyama to deal with and for the next few days, He was sulking and acting very lackluster towards the redhead who was constantly clinging to him, he finally got away from her during lunch when he pretended to go to bathroom.
He went down the hall and just chilled against a wall for few minutes and took out his phone to check the news feeds on that griffin girl that's been plaguing his mind, but couldn't find anything... there wasn't even a report of her leaving his agency via the balcony! just reports of him allegedly dating his new intern which ruffled his feathers and made his stomach do nauseating flips...after a few more searches he gave up.
"Just who are you Ms. McCoy..." he muttered to himself before actually going into the restroom, not noticing Taiyama spying on him, anger and jealousy evident on her face. "that bitch..." She hissed venom dripping on every word, that winged hussy was gonna pay for stealing her Hawks attention from her the redhead vowed before quietly leaving the agency.
P.s: Hawks totally snuck a feather on Ayla as she was leaving.

Another Feathursday Farewell
Last week we bid a fond #Feathursday farewell to our graduating Special Collections Graduate Intern, Katie Stollenwerk, and this week we do the same for our graduating intern Morgan Ellsworth. As we noted last week, because we have a serious interest in birds, one of our quirky employment practices is to assign an Avian Avatar to each of our staff members. Morgan’s avatar is the Common Starling (Sturnus vulgaris).
Much like her namesake, Morgan is bold, outspoken, gregarious, and often sports iridescent plumage. An Art History graduate student, Morgan has been with us for a year as our second Exhibitions Intern, planning, researching, and building physical exhibitions of our materials both large and small. Like our other interns, however, Morgan was also heavily involved in patron services, circulation, catalog verification, digitization, and social media.
Of her experience in Special Collections, Morgan writes:
My time working in Special Collections was brief, only a year, but it was so memorable. Not only was I immersed in such a welcoming work environment, but I was able to gain such a unique curatorial experience. I was taught how to handle, care for, and display invaluable printed objects. I studied and curated facsimiles, book arts, Chinese painted fans, pop-up books, and much more. I discovered the value of the Oxford comma, birds, and what it's like working with such wonderful people. I will continue to search for similar positions in my future, but I know I will never find such an amazing place like UWM Special Collections. Thank you Max and Alice for hiring me and teaching me a unique and educational way of curating art objects. I will use my experiences gained throughout my careers.
And we thank YOU, Morgan!  Morgan graduates with a Master’s degree in Art History after successfully defending her exhibition thesis Ethiopian Art: Christian Narratives from the Kebra Nagast based on the Ethiopian collection at UWM’s Mathis Gallery, and for which she spent a good part of January 2020 physically touring Ethiopian sites, festivals, and rituals.
The Image of Morgan above was taken at the opening for her thesis exhibition. The images of Starlings are from a plate by Wisconsin ornithologist, conservationist, and nature artist Owen J Gromme from his outstanding 1963 book Birds of Wisconsin, published for the Milwaukee Public Museum, where Gromme was curator of birds and mammals, by the University of Wisconsin Press. The top image is of an immature and an adult Starling; the bottom image is a post-juvenile Starling in first winter plumage.
