Still messing around with what my haphazard AU's 'Fungyne' would look like + more things to mess with digitally next time I'm feelin' it.

Explanation: Apprx. five years post-Surface Era, Shel(phys) creates a new fungi-based magibio-engineered prosthetic eye for her fishwife. Its purpose is to be implanted into the patient and hooked into their magic so it can be nourished by their body like any other body part. She tests it in a lab for a year on a very clean and consistent form of magic and deems it safe for implantation.

The magic of a monster isn't as clean-cut as an artificial source, however, and "life finds a way." The fungi begins to spread, stealthily, inside of her, and as anyone who pays attention to the science knows: fungi is smart. It can communicate with other fungi. On some level it has a consciousness, and the consciousness present in the prosthetic evolved whilst being nourished by the messy, fluctuating magic of a monster--Undyne.

Or "Fungyne," as she prefers to be called once she takes over. Her number one priority is absorbing people into her fungal hivemind by infecting them with spores produced when the glowing growths pop.

Been thinking about how the rat (Comic 'Fuse' Sans Serif) would go about the last timeline's plan to poison the humans and absorb their souls just time in to greet the last fallen human:

the guy would have to ingratiate himself with the monsters and humans running the orphanage (the Royal Couple, his brother, Undyne, the moth lady who currently has no name but is the AU's alternative to Muffet, the two human adults (who themselves have a kid of their own)) and somehow not get banned for being a foul-mouthed bad influence;

his brother and Undyne would have to be distracted somehow, which is where Shelphys plays her part, probably inviting them to a bruncheon - as for the moth lady, she'd have to take care of the old Royals while Fuse takes the humans for a 'picnic' (I'm not sure what would be done about the monster kids, and how he'd get away with only the humans? This would all have to be done in secrecy with no monsters being aware of the humans being taken out on the 'picnic' too);

he would have to rely on poison to keep from collecting very suspicious EXP/LV in light of the to-be missing humans and so on, which is easy if he gains their trust, but damn, having to poison some people you spent a year (maybe multiple, different timeline years) getting to know and watching them die;

at least Splat (Chara) is around to explain to the other now-dead humans what's going on once their souls have been collected/absorbed and, given the timing, proof falls right on time, so they're willing to go along with it for the good of their non-humans friends and guardians.

The last fallen human, who's been trying for who knows how long to finally go through with wiping out the Underground and all who live there (99% some sort of malicious 'failsafe' Bunny gets Code to, well, code, into the world--if he can't have the object of his obsessions and somehow loses control of everything then hey, no one can have him, not even himself), therefore falls in on the scene of the now very much OP angry guy that keeps fucking with their plans, and his ghost pal, and a morbid picnic where the other attendees are the very recently deceased;

they're quickly killed and, before they can Reset, absorbed and kept in check by the other human souls - after which it's a quick teleport to the Barrier to use those human souls to shatter it;

they disappear, of course - including Splat, leaving a rather fucked up rat to quickly panic-teleport to a pre-designated room in the Hotland Lab so he doesn't get caught at the scene;

all of which neither Fuse nor Shel can mention to anyone because they'd be shunned at best, dusted at worst for conspiracy and murder, leaving the collective human disappearance and shattering of the Barrier a mystery to everyone else
