“There should be honesty in politics. “ says Gehlot on ahead of assembly elections in Rajasthan

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is actively pursuing his campaign for the upcoming Assembly election in the state. He has visited over 100 constituencies out of 200 by now. In an exclusive interview with a leading media house, Gehlot opened up about the current situation of politics in India and how the BJP is playing wrong in many ways.

When asked about BJPs accusing Congress of appeasement politics in Rajasthan and that he has been supporting Muslims exclusively, Gehlot said, “There should be honesty in politics. The BJP should discuss the work of our government, and point out our mistakes and flaws. We will reply to them. As they have nothing to point out in our governance, they are trying to make a non-issue a political issue. If you see all BJP leaders coming to Rajasthan, you will notice all of them making the same speech. They speak on Article 370, Triple Talaq. It is a state election, speak about Rajasthan. Their agenda is to divide people and get votes, not welfare. The people of Rajasthan are very intelligent and know who has worked for them in the last five years.”

He also talked about the Ram Mandir building project which Congress failed to deliver and said, “They want to fight election on religion in Rajasthan. In the Kanhaiya Lal murder case (the murder of a tailor in Udaipur), we solved the case in a few hours. The accused were close to BJP leaders, who helped them in a property dispute saying they were BJP workers. The BJP is responsible for his killing. Ram does not belong to one person, he belongs to all. But doing politics on religion is not good for the country.”

Gehlot also talked about his cast (mali) for the first time. Gehlot said about Mali community, “I am proud that I am from Mali community. I am Mali from Rajasthan and what does Mali do. Mali keeps every garden in India beautiful. There is all type of flowers in a garden, Mali takes care of them. Similarly, people have given me responsibility to take care of all communities, which, I have done. There is only one Mali MLA in Rajasthan assembly and that is me. I have been CM for three terms and worked for different caste and religion without any discrimination. In that context I spoke about being a Mali.”

Apart from this, Gehlot also talked about PM Modi and several other aspects of politics in Rajasthan.

She spoke more about receiving threats to her life after the Supreme Court's scathing remarks in July ordering her to apologise for "setting the country on fire" with her irresponsible remarks on May 26.

Additionally, individuals who had expressed support for her had received threats. There were at least two homicides involved in the case.

Umesh Kolhe, a pharmacist from Amravati, Maharashtra, who had helped her, was killed in June. Days later, a tailor in Udaipur who had expressed sympathy for Nupur Sharma on social media was fatally attacked in his shop.

A heinous crime was committed in Rajasthan’s Udaipur. A Hindu Tailor named Kanhaiya Lal was killed by two men in his shop. The killers recorded the video of the incident which went viral on social media.

PM Modi on Thursday accused Congress government in Rajasthan of being “sympathetic to terrorists”, and said that the appeasing nature of the ruling party can prove lethal to the state. He also said that the frequently occurring terror incidents, including the murder of Kanhaiya Lal last year, are incidents that could harm the heritage of the state.

During an election rally in Udaipur, while addressing the crowd, PM Modi said, “The terror act in which Kanhaiya Lal was killed in Udaipur is a blot on the Congress government. This heinous crime took place because a party that sympathizes with terrorists is in power.”

The number of such shameful acts in the recent time in Rajasthan has been high, he added.

On June 28, 2022, the murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal made national news headlines. It was a revenge crime where two assassins murdered the tailor for showing support to BJP leader Nupur Sharma, who had made contentious remarks earlier.

PM Modi also addressed the state government's decision to impose a ban on the Ram Navami procession and Kanwar Yatra while allowing the Popular Front of India (PFI) to hold rallies. “Who would have thought that such a situation would arise here… The Congress government has committed this sin,” he said.

Mr. Modi also addressed the issue of migration wherein it has been noticed that several people from the poor areas of the state are moving to other states. The PM said that if Congress remained in power, more people would migrate, vacating Rajasthan.

Finally, counting Congress’s list of failures, Modi said, “In the fight for the chair, Congress lost sight of public issues”. “The sole agenda of the Congress is to loot the State and fill its coffers. The party could not survive without corruption,” he added.

So......I was gone for 3 days, yeah. And I have so many thoughts, so basically this is a rant about everything that happened.

I didn't had access to Internet for a few days, the State Goverment put a ban on Internet access to prevent any possible rumours that can trigger panic among the masses. I went through a plethora of emotions in these few days.

At first, I was agitated. Because I didn't knew how long it will be gone, and like anyone would, I was practically driven insane thinking about what things I couldn't do. I had to study for the whole day the first day so I didn't use my phone and mind it that much. But then the second day, when I came home from an exam, I got to know that they have extended the ban for 24 hours more. And it basically made me angry because I had a whole watch list to binge through, and it was the first time in months when I was absolutely free- no school work, no studies.

• But then the third day hit, and I was like, "Maybe I don't need these things that much." It hit me how desensitised I was about the incident itself. That someone lost their loved one, someone was BRUTALLY murdered in the name of religion, and the government did it for putting a stop to harmful rumours, and I had the luxury to fret over not being able to access the internet. Even the people around me, like my friends were all either unaffected by the incident itself or just agitated over the lack of internet. I started feeling this gap between people and reality, and how the internet has contributed to it in a way.

And while I was away from everything, I felt light, almost more aware of my surroundings. I made friends with a cat, got soaked in pouring rain(it was so fun), binge read books, spent time with my family, and basically felt stable for a while.
