I took my Navy Veteran Dad and mom to Chester, IL to see the USS LST-325. . It’s the last fully operational WWII Landing Ship Tank. It has approximately 45 volunteers that sleep, eat, and drink on board while sailing 24 hours a day at 8-10 mph. . . . . . #chesterillinois #army #navy #usslst325 #cubs #chicagocubs #southernillinois #veteran #usa #wwii #cartervilleillinois #herrinillinois https://ift.tt/2wXa4RJ

ROBBIE VISITS THE USS LST 325 - docked at Cape Girardeau, Missouri - 9/28/16. Photo by Michael Huntington. From the official website: "USS LST 325 has been in operation since 1943. This ship served during the North African operations, the Invasion of Sicily, the Invasion of Salerno, Italy. The USS LST 325 also participated in the landings at Omaha Beach, Normandy France for D-Day June 6th, 1944 and made the landing on June 7th. On December 28th, 1944, the LST 325 rescued 700 men from the torpedoed troop transport ship the Empire Javelin, earning Comdr. Mosier a Bronze Star." Decommissioned in the 1960s, this tank transport ship was then loaned to the Greek Navy (renamed "Syros L-144") and actively served for thirty years before returning to the US to become a traveling memorial history museum. Aside from the fascinating history of this vessel, there are also reports from paranormal investigators that it is haunted by the ghost of a US Marine named "Jonathan." @Huntington_Strange_Travels #StrangeTravels #MichaelHuntington #HuntingtonFamily #HuntingtonAdventures #HuntingtonBoys #USSLST325 #SyrosL144 #WW2Vessel #DDayVessel #GhostShip #HauntedLST325 #CapeRiverfront #CapeGirardeau #CapeGirardeauMissouri (at Cape Girardeau, Missouri)
