Forum IAS - All you Need To Know About UPSC(civil services)
Tumblr media
What is UPSC?
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), India's principal regulatory body, administers one of the most competitive and prestigious examinations, the civil services exam. UPSC also conducts a variety of competitive tests to fill various posts in the Indian government's civil service.
The UPSC administers the Civil Services Examination (CSE), also known as the IAS (Indian Administrative Service) exam. UPSC Prelims and UPSC Mains are the two parts of the exam. The prelims exam has objective-type questions, whereas the main exam has descriptive and essay-type responses. The UPSC is in charge of administering a variety of exams for positions such as IAS, IPS, and IFS.
What is the history behind the UPSC exam?
The Civil Service test was established by the British East India Company in 1854. At originally, the examinations for the Indian Civil Service were solely held in London. Shri Satyendranath Tagore, Shri Rabindranath Tagore's younger brother, was the first Indian to pass the exam in 1864. India did not hold civil service examinations till after the Montagu Chelmsford reforms.
For the first time, India's Public Service Commission was constituted on October 1, 1926. Sir Ross Barker, a member of the United Kingdom's Home Civil Service, was the Commission's first Chairman. When the Indian Constitution was adopted on January 26, 1950, the Federal Public Service Commission was renamed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). As a result, the UPSC was founded as the governing body for government employment examinations.
What are the Functions of UPSC?
The UPSC's responsibilities under Article 320 of the Constitution are as follows:
1. Drafting and amending the Recruitment Rules for government services and positions.
2. Handling disciplinary matters involving various Civil Services or officers.
3. Conduct the Union's recruitment examinations for appointment to the Union's services.
4. Aspirants are directly recruited after being selected through interviews.
5. Appointment of cadre officers for promotion, deputation, or absorption.
6. Advising the government on any topic that the President of India has referred to the Commission.
Which Examinations are conducted by UPSC?
To comprehend UPSC, you must be familiar with the UPSC examinations. The following is a list of UPSC exams:
Exams for the National Defence Academy and the Naval Academy (NDA)
Examination of the Indian Statistical Service (ISS)
Exam for the Indian Economic Service (IES)
Exam for the Indian Forest Service (IFS)
Exam for both a geoscientist and a geologist
IAS, IPS, IRS, and other officers are recruited through the Indian Civil Services Examination (ICSE).
Examination for Indian Engineering Services
Combined Medical Services Examination (CMSE)
Exam for Central Armed Police Forces (ACS)
Exam for the Combined Defence Services (CDS)
Various UPSC EPFO and other exams recruitment tests
Why is Civil Services of India considered as a dream career by so many?
The UPSC Civil Services Exam leads to positions such as IAS, IPS, IFS, and IRS (20+ jobs/services). The Civil Services, with its wide range of jobs, have a greater scope of jurisdiction and power than any other service in India. Civil service provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pursue personal goals while also contributing to society.
Civil Services include all a person wishes to achieve:
Possibility to contribute to nation-building and make a difference in people's lives.
Civil servants contribute to the country's decision-making process, represent the country at international forums, maintain law and order, participate in developmental activities, travel the length and width of the country, meet various types of people, and so on.
Salaries: Since the 7th pay commission, civil servants' salaries have been on par with those in the private sector. Aside from the wage scale, federal officials receive significant benefits and subsidies.
Civil servants are regarded as powerful and prestigious symbols.
Job Security: Civil officials are unable to be fired easily, giving them a strong sense of job security. Civil servants work until they reach the age of 60, with the possibility of an extension.
How to get selected into the Civil Services of India?
The Civil Services Exam (CSE) is held every year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit for various civil service positions. CSE tests an aspirant's knowledge in three different formats or levels.
UPSC examines information in an MCQ format in the first level, the UPSC Prelims Exam. The whole point is to separate the wheat from the chaff, to distinguish the serious candidates from the rest of the pack.
The knowledge is tested in a subjective format in the second stage, the UPSC Mains Exam when your written expression is tested. This is made more challenging by limiting the examinee to a certain number of words. One must not only have information, but also the ability to put that knowledge on paper within a set word limit and time constraint.
The Personality Test, often known as the UPSC Interview, is the third stage in a candidate's evaluation. The goal here is to assess a candidate's personality traits. How articulate the applicant is, in terms of verbal expression, body language, honesty, the courage of conviction, and other qualities; of course, the platform used to assess these qualities is knowledge-based. After clearing all these steps you become a civil servant.

UPSC EPFO EO/AO 2020 Recruitment: Does ‘Desirable Qualification’ matters? - Times of India
New Post has been published on https://apzweb.com/upsc-epfo-eo-ao-2020-recruitment-does-desirable-qualification-matters-times-of-india/
UPSC EPFO EO/AO 2020 Recruitment: Does ‘Desirable Qualification’ matters? - Times of India
Tumblr media
Recently, 421 vacancies applications have been invited for the post of UPSC EPFO EO/AO 2020. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the exam for its recruitment. For this UPSC has given a detailed syllabus and the exam is scheduled on 4th Oct 2020. Who can appear for the examination?
Any graduate can appear for this examination, provided he/she has filled the application form and must have attained the age in between 21 to 30 years.
Does the ‘Desirable Qualification’ make any difference?
The desirable qualifications enlisted in the UPSC EPFO EO/AO 2020 notification, do not make much difference in the final selection. Technically, many students do not fit into the desirable qualification criteria. Moreover, many candidates do not belong to any commerce background, still, get selected.
Indeed, they have an edge, not only in terms of knowledge that they hold, which would benefit them in the written examination but in the interview as well. There is no prohibition for aspirants from Science and Arts, as it is not the mandatory criteria. During the interview, in the ‘Detailed Application Form’ of a candidate, these things are mentioned, and questions can be asked from these.
Therefore, not only aspirants form Accounts or Commerce, but students of many fields get selected. The only advice would be for such candidates that put little more efforts, overcome limitations as we have enough time to prepare (the exam is in Oct 2020).
Who is having an edge in this examination?
In this examination, there is an edge for those aspirants who have been preparing for UPSC CSE. Most of the topics coincide with this examination. UPSC CSE being a prestigious examination keeps the good level of difficulty for questions. Even one has a good command over two-third of topics, then also stand a good chance.
UPSC aspirants have an edge, but that should not be a reason for complacency. And this should also not be a reason for dejection among those who are not preparing for UPSC CSE. Not only UPSC, but students of every field prepare for this.
youtube
There is enough time to prepare for UPSC EPFO EO/AO.
Few things to follow religiously: * Sticking to the Syllabus is the key to prepare and succeed. * Identify your Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) by analyzing the previous years’ papers thoroughly * Do enough research for SWOT analysis, allocate time to the topics effectively and cover the whole syllabus. * Practice as many mock tests as possible. * Overcome weak areas with consistent efforts.
Interview
The final merit will be made considering 75:25 marks scored in Recruitment Test and Interview.
The interview is the medium to check the candidate’s personality, more than judging aptitude or knowledge. Diverse questions are asked derived from the information provided in the Detailed Application Form (DAF). Candidate must know about oneself, his/her background, the educational qualifications and good command of the job done in the past. Also, have a fair idea about the organization aspire to join. Research the job role for which applied. Finally, general interview etiquettes concerning personal grooming, dressing, gestures, body language, etc., matters a lot.
We wish you all the best!

UPSC EPFO Enforcement Officer exam: Best preparation strategy to ace the exam - Times of India
New Post has been published on https://apzweb.com/upsc-epfo-enforcement-officer-exam-best-preparation-strategy-to-ace-the-exam-times-of-india/
UPSC EPFO Enforcement Officer exam: Best preparation strategy to ace the exam - Times of India
Tumblr media
The UPSC has recently notified for the 2020 recruitment of Enforcement Officer/Account Officer for filling up of 421 posts under the Enforcement Provident Fund Organisation, Ministry of Labour and Employment. The EPFO Enforcement Officer 2020 is a two-stage recruitment test, including a Recruitment Test (RT) and an Interview where the posts offered are Permanent, Group ‘B’, Non-Ministerial. The UPSC, EPFO Enforcement Officer Recruitment Test, is to be held on 10th Oct 2020 pan-India. The two-stage examination is spread over about one year, so an aspirant gets enough time to prepare and get selected.
The UPSC EPFO EO/AO exam pattern involves the Recruitment Test consisting of 120 questions of 100 marks in total to be completed within a duration of 2 hours. The examination will comprise of objective type questions in bilingual mode (i.e. both in English and Hindi). One-third penalty is imposed for the wrong attempt.
youtube
After qualifying the recruitment test, the selected candidates would be called for the interview. The merit will be framed as per 75:25 ratio for the marks acquired in the recruitment test to that of the interview.
It is of utmost importance to have a strategy to use the knowledge and apply it effectively so that the attempt can be converted into the final selection. Some important suggestions about making the right strategy for exam preparation:
Have a thorough understanding of questions asked in the Previous Year Papers of UPSC.
For effective utilisation of time in completing syllabus, the Plan should be distributed on a daily, weekly and monthly basis with particular emphasis on Daily Target based Study Plan.
