I Let A Bot Rewrite the Events of the 2019 MAMAs

We all know that the Mnet Asian Music Awards can be a bit of a dumpster fire, but this year was more of a flaming trash heap than usual. So I decided to take some of the happenings that took place at MAMA, along with a few hypothetical ones and some from my imagination, and rewrote the events of the biggest night in K-Pop.

Just as a clarification, the bold font is what I wrote, and everything else was completely autogenerated. I swear.

At first the bot seemed to me mocking me, or at least, mocking Seventeen. 

But eventually it seemed to get the hang of it, especially during this incredibly realistic depiction of Jungkook.

In fact, the bot even made a prediction of a possible Itzy subunit or new single of some kind. 

But after a while, it kind of seemed like maybe this wasn’t a bot after all, but just J. Y. Park himself.

I should note that the bot would sometimes unfortunately stop mid-sentence. Or fortunately, in this case.

I tried a few fill in the blank situations with some interesting results. 

This one just really goes to show how artsy and symbolic BTS’ performances have become. 

I also really liked Monsta X’s stage and thought their intro on the cars was really cool, but I wondered what the bot would have wanted them to ride out on, and uhhhh.

I mean first of all I’m very proud of Wonho and her transition, we support a queen. But I also can’t get this image out of my head.

But hands down my favorite performance of the night was the collaboration between ONEUS and ATEEZ, with their stunning tribute to the great K-Pop dances of our time. But what was really going on backstage? Apparently, a la Bring It On, ATEEZ videotaped and stole their routine.

What else was going on backstage, I wondered. What was Dua Lipa up to? Turns out she passed by WayV and

The shade is real.

Speaking of shade, I also kind of wondered what was happening outside of the venue, say in nearby Tokyo.

WOW.

Who else was watching, I wondered? Surely Lee Soo Man, the inventor of the K-Pop industry. But the bot clearly just wanted to get its SM/Chanyeol fanfic out there. 

Also the bot thinks Mamamoo is so gorgeous that it just kind of broke itself. (same)

Maybe the bot would appreciate some soft Chung Ha moments? Apparently not at all.

Meanwhile Heize was there, just being Heize, saying Heize things.

Jackson’s reaction to his father’s J.Y. Park’s clear pants moment was by far the biggest meme of the night, but what was really going on?

The night was also full of controversy. For example, the venue had banned light sticks, but nevertheless the stans persisted and the crowd was full of ARMY bombs and candy bongs and carat sticks, I mean, carat bongs. I wondered what would have happened if this rule was actually enforced.

The elephant in the room was definitely the MNET voting scandal over the Produce series, and I spent the night hoping some staff member would snap and rush the stage. At first the bot wanted to write some kind of “meanwhile” plot...

Uhh, okay. I tried again.

GIRLS’ GENERATION WAS BEHIND THE FRAUD. This goes deep. But at least Love Scenario is finally getting its just reward.

Also this year EXO didn’t win anything, which is fine and okay for your faves to not win, but when you’re an EXO-L, this is an unacceptable scandal, and I decided to see what would happen if I let them win SOTY.

Divorce really changes you apparently.
