Hernando County Government and Constitutional Offices Experience Network Interruption

Hernando County Government recently experienced an interruption of the county-wide IT network. Upon learning of this interruption, the Hernando County Clerk Information Technology Incident Response Team (IRT) was deployed and immediately began working with third-party computer specialists to investigate the nature and scope of the incident. Please know that the IRT is diligently working to bring the network back online and minimize service interruptions wherever possible. Please note that certain public safety emergency and critical services, including 911, Sheriff, Fire Rescue, EMS, and others have remained operational. Some services may be temporarily unavailable or limited. Please contact your local constitutional and government offices for service availability. We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we continue to investigate this matter. The IRT is eagerly working to bring the systems back online. Ginnie springs is the first stop on our tour of the springs close to UF. Sitting at right about 30 miles north of Gainesville, Ginnie Springs is one of the most popular destinations for college students to get their swim on. Ginnie is touted to be one of the clearest springs in Florida and the facilities are well funded, well kept, and generally pretty full. With a wide array of rentals including paddle boards, inner tubes, kayaks, canoes, and more, Ginnie Springs is a great first time spot for any student looking to get their feet wet.

I personally love going to Ginnie. It is beautiful and well shaded down at the actual spring with an amazing (albeit short) creek that flows to the main Santa Fe River. This is a great starter spring because most people can stand on at least one section of the limestone shelf that surrounds the actual bowl of the spring vent. This allows those who are not accustomed to deep water or who are not the strongest of swimmers to gain their bearings while still enjoying a great view.

There are a few downsides that you should generally be aware of before going to the springs, but these should not deter you from trying it out. On the weekends, the springs and Santa Fe river are usually packed with people from all around. I would suggest trying to go earlier in the week or early in the morning on the weekends to escape the rush of people, and to ensure you are able to gain the full beauty of the springs. Ginnie does also suffer from a bit of a parking problem if you decide to go during peak hours in the summer. The last issue is also a bit of a deterrent for some and it sadly is my least favorite thing about Ginnie Springs, the price. General admission is a little over $14, and more if you want to scuba dive around the area.

Ginnie Springs sits at about 15 feet deep and is generally considered to be one of the shallow springs in our area. All of the extra amenities offered by the private owner, the clean facilities, and the relatively shallow depths make this a great starter spring.

For those of you who enjoy looking at wildlife I would suggest renting a kayak and making your way upriver and then slowly coasting you way back down to Ginnie to take in the full beauty of the Santa Fe river area. I kayaked through the river for a few miles with my girlfriend and we were able to spot countless amounts of fish, birds, turtles, and even a deer on the riverbank.

According to the Florida Springs organization, Ginnie is very popular among casual swimmers, camping enthusiasts, snorkelers, and certified divers alike, making it a hotpot for all kinds of people who enjoy the outdoors.
