Porsche 911 R/2.0 Prototype, 1967. The first track-focused 911 models emerged from Porsche’s racing department in Spring of 1967 with every possible component replaced by a lightweight version. Much of the bodywork was fabricated in fibreglass and the interior was striped out resulting in an overall weight loss of 500 lbs (230 kg) from the standard 911. After an initial 4 prototypes with the Typ 901/22 engine from the Carrera 906 Porsche built 20 customer cars some with the DOHC 230hp Type 901/21 engine. However the R never met homologation requirements and was forced to race in the prototype classes
