Two Worlds II - or Further Musings on Arcane Theory

So, I continue to play Two Worlds II.  Over-all I give the game a solid B, it's not going to win any beauty contests but it is fun, for a specific demographic- specifically the hard-core RPG anal retentive fanboy.  Which I am.

The magic system in Two Worlds II is actually pretty interesting.  All magical effects come on 'cards' which you have to find in the world, you can then combine these cards for different effects.  It affords one an incredible variety and customization, however it can be an incredible pain in the ass.  Last night as a lark I saved my game, then respec'ed my character as a Mage, sort of, and ran around seeing how well I did.  Enemies I had easily trounced with little regard to my personal safety moments before were now formidable threats to my continued existence.  So I said "Fuck this" and went back to my prior build.

I look forward to experimenting with the magical system further, as I grow in level and power, but for now, with the limited options I have available to me, it isn't feasible.

Dragon, Titan, Enchantress. I do not really consider myself a collector. Most of my figures came from deluxe or special editions of games. However, when I learned they were releasing a Titan Class version of the Autobot/City/Space-Carrier Metroplex, I knew I had to get him. It was a giddy, gnawing feeling coming from deep within my bones. I loved Transformers as a kid, and though I have had my fair share of robots (now all sadly lost or broken), Metroplex was always one of those "Holy Grail" toys you dreamt off (along with Fortress Maximus). Up until I got him, the biggest collectibles I had were Alduin from Skyrim and Cassara from Two Worlds 2. Two Worlds II - Or How I learned to stop questing and learned to love the Baboon

So, against all better judgement, I bought Two Worlds II last night.  I payed the first one and it was fairly awful.  

I was however, pleasntly suprised this time around.

Don't misunderstand me, this is NOT a great game, or anywhere near AAA status.  Its still ugly, slow, clunky, and cumbersome.  It is however, playable, and that's an important distinction from the original.

I noticed something very odd however, after about three hours of playing.  I had been forced to abandon the actual quest lines and forced to forge in the Savannah of this IMMENSE open world in order to level up and improve my stats.  And by forge, I pretty much mean just that.

I now kill Baboons, Rhinoceros, Ostrich, and Cheetahs like it's my job.  I have so many Baboon tongues I could effectively corner the market if there was a dynamic economy system.

After getting to about level 10 by slaughtering whatever rare and exotic animals  I could find, I asked myself a very strange question:

What game am I playing?

I then rechecked the box to make sure there wasn't a Cabela's logo I had missed.

I am however, enjoying myself, so there's something to that.
