WIP Wednesday (10/9) | Guardian Angel Neil AU (Part 244)

Andrew flicks the ash off his cigarette and paces up and down the sidewalk, where he's waiting for Nicky to pick him up. After a few minutes go by, Andrew starts to wonder if his cousin has forgotten him. It wouldn't be the first time Andrew'd been left somewhere. But Nicky had never been the one to leave him.

He will. Of course. Eventually.

Oop, Andrew laughs. Here come the abandonment issues Bee brought up earlier. He takes the final drag of his cigarette and puts it out against the front of the building before dropping the butt in the bushes.

When he checks his phone for the time, he finds Nicky is ten whole minutes late. Before Andrew can punch his number in, he sees the car whip into the parking lot on two wheels. It seems Nicky is fully aware of how late he is. Good. The car swings up to the curb and Andrew yanks the door open before dropping into his seat.

He taps the car's clock. "I know it's tricky but most people learn how to tell time in elementary school. This one right here makes it easy for you."

"Sorry!" Nicky says with an expression that's a cross between a grimace and a pout. "I fell asleep. Just woke up like three minutes ago. I flew here, just so you know. Almost got a ticket, but I flirted my way out of it."

At Andrew's silence and scrutiny, Nicky shrivels a bit. "Okay, fine. You got me, the car got stolen and I had to fight off a pack of hunky robbers."

"Horrible excuses," Andrew shakes, tutting his tongue. "What were you really up to?"

Nicky looks at him in the rearview, likely trying to gauge is Andrew's actually pissed. He's not. The carousel never stops spinning and Andrew can't slow it down either. He must've used up all his annoyance in Bee's office while they were talking about his doppelganger. Andrew can't believe she gave him homework.

"I'm not going to kill you in your sleep," Andrew says easily. Then he pretends to consider it. "Now, if it had been raining... Maybe."

Nicky chuckles nervously. "Lucky for me it's nice out today."

Mammon Birthday 2024

My MC dotes on Mammon, but is not romantically interested in him so of course they had to make him feel special on his birthday!

Very much enjoyed Mammon's birthday event he's genuinely a fun guy to hang out with. With a lot of the previous character birthday events you have to plan out the day, but Mammon has made his own plans for his birthday that he hopes you are free to join him on (which you are).

The activity is a treasure hunt in the Uncharted Woods. No misfortune befalls you on the adventure for once and thanks to Mammon's cute habit of mumbling about things while he looks them up you and Lucifer get him a pair of shoes to fit the occasion - ones that lead you to fortune!

There is a peaceful run in with a chest mimic - I LOVE that mimics are canon in OM! - there was one in a Bel event a few months ago as well tho that one was not as friendly. It's on my bucket list now to make a mimic OM! oc xD

The mimic is also celebrating a family members birthday (a sibling in ill health) and Mammon has no regrets giving up the expensive Blood-Red Diamond. The unexpecting exchange item (a gold feather?) from the mimic turns out to be worth more O.o

Liked that the 'party options' were private drink or go to club. Got very different vibes, which is good. Went to club cause didn't want to give him too many ideas, but he still got a few kiss kiss from me for being a good boy :3

Obey Me! NB "Dark Eternal Bliss" Pop Quiz

Ahhh really enjoyed this event! It wasn't too complicated but had some interesting lore elements to it. Also everyone's festival outfits looked really good. They were reminiscent of their traditional festival outfits.

The overall plot was basically: stuck in a dimension between the demon world and human world. We are tasked with holding a marriage festival to an emperor - marriage candidate is marked on back of hand. We are able to get the emperor to release us + the other souls trapped there through discussion.

There was a lot of sweet solo moments with the brothers (including proposals of sorts). Not as many with the other characters. Sometimes you had to pick between two characters - how dare they make me pick between Satan and Beel at one point!

Some of my fave things I ended up doing:

Floor cleaning with Levi (making a date for later) :3

Making plans with Satan, Beel, and Lucifer

Talking with the sad Matrimonial Black Flowers

Stargazing with Satan

Going on a walk with Lucifer

Pretending to be married to Bel to mess with the brothers haha

Getting a care package from Thirteen TwT

Lucifer saying he would always search for us no matter what world we were in.

Another part I really liked was Luke, Beel, and Solomon collecting the festival food. Instead of it being the typical 'you two get out of the kitchen' moment Luke insisted they stayed for the other talents they had; Solomon's text reading and Beel's physical strength.

Through the whole event Asmo, Barbatos, and Solomon were being epic kings. When I suggested Barb being the bride and Asmo being like "that would scare them away" made me laugh (Barb kinda seemed into the idea lol). And then Barbatos and Solomon agreeing that they would want to approve who marries us first but would probably also not approve anyone lol

Didn't manage to get any completed cards this event, but with any luck I'll eventually pull the new brother appreciation card (rip the 80 pulls I've done already).

Might also try to do an art piece for this event so I'll post it down below if I do :3

“Stop.”

“Stop what?”

“You know w-hahaht!” Yuki flinched at another poke to his ribs, throwing him off focus once more. “Haharu! I’m trying to stuhuhudy!”

“You’ve been studying. I’ve watched you stare at that textbook for the last. Half. Hour.” He emphasized each word with a ticklish jab, forcing Yuki away from his desk as he tried to curl up. “Take a break. Play some video games with me.”

“I have a test thohohough!” His words were demolished instantly when Haru grabbed his waist, squeezing gently as he pressed his thumbs into the sides of Yuki’s stomach. “I chahahahhan’t fahhahahail ihiihihit!”

“You’ve been studying nonstop for days; not to mention the test isn’t until Friday. Plus it’s for a subject you’re good at. You’ll be fine if you take a break.” Something warm entered his aloof expression as Yuki squeaked, lightly grabbing at his wrist while he tried to kick him in the gut. “Besides, I know all your weaknesses.”

“Huhuhuhu-AH Noohohohohoohhoho!” The rat all but cackled when Haru switched targets, grabbing his ankle and giving his foot a friendly scratch. “Nohohohohoht thehehehehehere! Geheheheht ohooohohohf, yohohoohu jeheheherk!”

“A jerk? Me? How cruel.” Haru snickered, using his martial art moves to twist himself into an ideal position. He now had his back facing Yuki, his squirming foot trashing in an armlock as he carried on tickling him. “And after all I’ve done was show some concern! My poor heart!”

“Shuhuhuhush! Aheahhahhaa, Hahah-RHUHUHU!” He just HAD to go for the toes, didn’t he! Trying and failing to fight back, he opted to strangle Haru with his own shirt, but his grip was too short and he ended up falling out of his chair. “OHOHOHOKAY OHOHOHOKAY IHIIHLL TAHHAHKE A BREAAHHAKE!”

“Hmm?” Haru looked back at him, slowing his tickles to a gentle crawl. “Promise?”

“Prohohohomise!” Yuki pleaded, his face burning.

Haru studied him longer before nodding, releasing Yuki’s foot as the other boy yanked it back. “Good. I got this new game; it’s about a defense attorney-”

A pillow to the back of the head cut him off. When he turned, Yuki had another one ready to go.

Silence.

“Oh, so that’s how it is?” Haru picked up the pillow with a deadly grin, making Yuki yelp with an anticipated giggle. “Come here, Yuki~”

💘 - What are some of your favorite things you’ve written and why?

Fanfic:

Bad Timing - an allergy fic (crazy for me, I know), ft. two characters I've never written together ever again? haha. I particularly like the last scene here; I think the caretaking I write is usually more tender. Rosaria's response is neither tender nor sadistic—just detached :') The novelty of that was refreshing to me.

Pretense, pt 1 and pt 2 - This one did not get as great of a reception at the time of posting, I think because part 1 is a little boring LOL. I don't have much to say, except that it's lighthearted and fluffy!

Untrustworthy - Diluc at the scene of the crime again 😭 This was a commission for someone, and it's also one of the few fics I've cross-posted to ao3. Honestly, I write a lot of stuff like this (i.e. similar in tone & character dynamic), but within the niche of what I'm most familiar with, I especially like this piece in terms of execution.

Original:

Fool Me Twice, Part 3 - quite possibly one of my favorite things I've written of Yves and Vincent, ever (and it came so early on in the series, too!) There's a certain character moment in this one (iykyk) that I'm particularly proud of :) And stylistically (as in... prose), I think I'm happy with it too.

Foreign Home - for a oneshot, this is long, but I do like the heart-to-heart I wrote at the end of it.

The Worst Timing, part 1 - this got me through the slog (jk, it was fun when it was going well LOL) of writing the 4 subsequent parts. The entire TWT mini-series is 28k words long 😭 Part 1 I think is a solid opener; I honestly have not worked up the courage to reread much of the rest.

🤧 - What’s your process for writing spellings?

I'm embarrassed to say that I've written soooo much snzfic in my life 95% of the time spellings are just something I write something from memory. 😭 That said, I sometimes reread other people's snzfics and with special attention paid to their spellings to expand like, my mental repository of consonant placings & pairings.

When I'm writing 2 different characters, I usually have to explicitly think through how their spellings might differ from each other before I can write them! I can suspend my disbelief if two characters from two different fandoms have similar spellings/snz archetypes, because I'll never write them in the same fic 😭 But if the characters exist in the same universe, in my head, their spellings have to have some level of distinctness/non-overlap.

I think the most memorable snzfic I've consumed has been snzfic that has surprised me, either in terms of tropes or execution. When I'm reading original fic or fanfic for characters I'm not familiar with, I like reading things that feel very different from my own work—sharper, bolder in execution, unexpected in terms of direction, etc. :')

I think I have a decent sense of what I am already familiar with writing. I like seeing other people operate outside of that niche... so long as there's still some overlap with what I personally find hot. (So in that sense, it doesn't align exactly!)

That said! There are some tropes which I write frequently which are soooo hot to me that I could see them written 90580923 ways and not tire of them (eg caretaker catching the sick character's cold?? sign me up please!) 😭😭 I also think I don't care as much for trope novelty/new execution if I already really like the characters.

🌞 - Do you need a specific environment to write? Like music, a certain time of day, a certain type of place?

The one non-negotiable aspect for me is that it needs to be very quiet :') I absolutely can't write with music on (despite being a huge music enjoyer + songwriter). I'm not good at tuning out 'unimportant' audio stimuli, so I'd rather not have music/sound fight with writing for my attention.

Aside from that! I think I do most of my writing in my room btwn like, 7pm-12am (in part because I'm a bit of a night owl, and in part because the house tends to be quieter during those hours).

It's all good! I never expected to get a quick answer, as I sent so many questions and kind of knew you'd probably have to think about some of them. I was going to comment directly on the post, but character limit caught me, ugh.

I don't know why but I can imagine most angels kind of being a bit bitchy, so I totally understand Neil! I'd probably do the same lol I hope Andrew at some point just starts buying clothes for Neil, like Andrew one day just shows up with one bag in hand and just gives it to him, no justification whatsoever. But… if it's the clothes Neil died in, do they have blood? Or did they get magically cleaned? How physical is he when he's walking around invisible? Does he have to constantly dodge people when walking around? (That sounds so fucking annoying, I constantly have to do that myself) If somebody spilled sauce in whatever place he's supposed to be currently occupying, would he end up full of sauce? Do his clothes ever get dirty? I'm just envisioning him walking to a laundromat to put them to wash, and just hanging out invisible and shirtless while he's waiting for it to be done.

I'm dying to know what Incident you're talking about! I'm like "feeed me moreeee".

Aaahh, was the part "Unless there are any other semi-invisible people in it." in the last wip post a reference to Kevin's guardian angel?? Is it someone we know? Also also, is there somebody extra in the team (since they couldn't recruit Neil)?

I'm glad to help! I'm glad I can contribute a bit to the story, it makes me happy. I definitely get the blurry weeks too, even months tbh. I haven't been much better, but I'm alright. The best I can possibly be atm. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with Webkinz, I didn't play that many games as a child. I had a Nintendo DS, tho. I miss my Super Mario Bros :') Anyway, just try to take one day at a time, you know? <3

You’re absolutely right about the other angels. Like, “Uh… this kid looks insane and also he’s talking to his charge? That’s… not allowed. We are not messing with him. No thank you.” 

Also omg that would be really cute. Andrew just throwing a plastic bag in Neil's lap and sitting down beside him. Neil just: What’s this? | Andrew: I'm tired of looking at that hoodie so I got you one that's not ripped all to hell.

Neil’s clothes aren’t bloody, thankfully. (Oh my god. Can you imagine the night Andrew met Neil if he’d been covered with dried blood? That would’ve gone so differently. And badly. :’)) But no. His clothes had been miracled clean. Like, when he ‘woke up’ to the bright light, he was clean.

Neil doesn’t generally get out of the way. If a human walks through him, that’s their business. (They will experience a sudden chill, but Neil doesn’t know that he has that effect. And he doesn’t care. Lol.) 

Ooh. That’s interesting. So let’s see… If, for example, Neil were sitting in the dining hall with Andrew and the monsters— invisibly of course— and someone spilled something on him… I think I’ve gotta say it would just… get all over him.

And Neil would accidentally pop into Andrew-mode because the shock of suddenly being doused with soda or soup or whatever would have him ‘letting go of the button’. Andrew would likely get choked, Neil might have to do this invisible heimlich maneuver… It would be… Not good. Hilarious, but not good. 

So that’s why Neil typically chills on the roof whenever Andrew isn’t Traveling. Less of a chance to majorly fuck up if he’s not around all the humans. :)

Yes, Neil’s clothes sometimes feel dirty to him. He’s since learned to magic them clean. :) A lot of trial and error on his part. Luckily he doesn’t have to strip naked and wash his clothes in the dorm’s laundry room. Lmao. Naked angel vibing in the corner. Gkldjglk 

Ahhh, I can’t tell you yet. TWT I’m sorry…

Also! Not really. Andrew was mainly just being a smart ass! :) He likes to do that. (We do know Kevy's angel.)

As for the team. No. Janie is still there, but otherwise they haven’t got any other new players. See, Kevin had picked out this striker for them to go see. Out in some tiny town in Arizona. But before they could fly out to see him play, his coach called Wymack to say he’d up and transferred suddenly with only a month left before graduation. Didn’t say where he was moving to or why he was leaving. Kevin was devastated that they’d lost this kid because he could tell he had potential. :((

<33333 I hope things get better soon for all of us. Also, Webkinz is a virtual pet game and I love it dearly. :) I have a couple of pets named Andreil and Kandrew on it right now. Haha.

Ahhh I'm so torn 🤣 I love the way you characterize Dabi, Shigaraki and Hawks as lers so much and I'm so curious how you'd write Shinsou or Monoma but also,,, the need to be wrecked by Shiraishi...okay! Maybe Shiraishi and a Reader with "You're not ticklish? You must feel awfully bold to think you can get away with lying to me like that. Did you forget I'm a profiler?" Only if you're inspired for it though!! ❤️
