WITHDRAWAL SYNDROME

Syndrome is defined as a set of physical conditions that show someone has a particular disease or medical problem. I want to share a story with you of an experience.

There was once a guy in the island of Goodness, this guy was brilliant loved by many of the ladies in his class, but this guy for his academics did not pay attention to any of those ladies, what was in his heart was his academics. After all said and done he finished his academics but he was unable to secure job whereas majority of his course mates have secured jobs. Because he could not readily secure job, he did not propose to any lady. Time was going all eyes on him to propose to someone but he did not.

About 5 years after finishing from University he secured a job through one of his uncles. He started the job and was aiming high but 10 months into this job, he was retrenched by the executives of the company for allegations he knew nothing about. He was sad when this incident happened because the management did not believe him despite being the superior, the management believed the false reports of subjects and sacked him.

“Thanks to God”, he reasoned I have not spend my salary anyhow let me try and see if I can travel out of the country. He made contacts with people whom he felt could be of assistance to him to get out of the country. He did not know that the people he was interacting with were fraudsters they dupe him collected his money and fled. He would not immediately know that he had been duped until weeks later when those people were long gone and could not be traced again.

This incident broke him up and he fainted one day in the market square when he was thinking of what would become of his life. He was only rescued by sympathizers who carried him to nearby clinic and after being revived he was warned to stop thinking.

He told the people that they would have left him to die in the market than reviving him and bringing him back to this world of shame, distrust and suffering.

He got back home, about 9 days after he was invited by the executives of the place where he has been retrenched and he was reinstated, with the management begging him.

He started the work but almost immediately when he started working, recession hit the island and so many of the members of staff of the management were laid off. He was not laid off but he was handling the work of about 6 people.

He faithfully continued in this estate hoping for a better tomorrow. The better tomorrow he was hoping for seemed elusive to him, thus he hoped to change the work he was doing. He applied to several establishments, and would be invited for interview but would not be selected. After doing this for months, he became weary of everything and would not apply to anywhere again.

This unsavory incident made him withdraw into his closet and himself and would not talk to anyone about any job again. Several people came to him with promising jobs but he would not do it. “of you can apply for me I would be glad but for me to apply for any job again, I would not do that they are the same, they all are liars”

Unsavory incidents usually force people to withdraw to themselves.

There was another guy in the island of Tunya, this guy was brought up in the way of farming which is the common work in the area. When this guy came of age, his parents decided to give him plots of land to start to farm upon, because soon enough he also ought to get settled, by settling in this part of the world it means get married and start raising children. His parent, father, did not want to be an albatross to his progress in life thus when they discovered that he needs liberty to be able to focus on his life, this was given him, albeit he still return to the family’s compound. They were doing this pending the time he would be able to stand on his feet, stand alone with relative supports, as they knew that no one could be an island.

This guy was grateful to his parents for this thought and with enthusiasm started his own farmland, planting things as he had seen his parents do. But after the planting season when he ought to be harvesting things thieves entered his farm and stole harvested the farm. He was very sad at this development. His father encouraged him sharing with him different experiences of what happened of what he had seen even when he has not been given birth to.

This guy summoned courage after this and worked like never the following year, but again this time around it was not thieves who entered his farmland but what happened was that the products did not yield as he expected. He was weary of life and was not moved by anything. All the counsels given him did not work, the guy withdrew to himself. He did not know what he could do again, and this time was not like now that there are options he could choose from.

When withdrawal syndrome sets in, one would be in ward to himself/herself, one would not be ready to listen to anyone and even if the person listens would listen halfheartedly not willing to do anything, having made up his/her mind. When someone withdraws to him/herself on the matter of marriage the person would not be moved again by anything called marriage.

Withdrawal syndrome makes one look inward, even though intelligent or wise or whatever, but would be afraid of what he had passed through and would not want a repeat of such. The fear of a repeat of such do make people to withdraw to themselves.

Someone who has money, business person but because of being defrauded by some people would not want to explore other opportunities because of the fear of falling into the wrong hands business wise again.

When a student has been failing repeatedly the fear of failing an examination may push the person away from sitting for another examination. This also applies to politicians when having failed at different attempts to clinch a position, they may be afraid to pursue their dreams again.

Someone who is suffering from this kind of trouble talk less, interact with people less, look inward the more, it may affect the appetite of some for a while and some who could not shake this off may affect their appetite for a very long time, this may result in some other form of organic diseases…
