Tunes for Tuesday: Léon
Tunes for Tuesday: Léon
For most people when they see “Léon,” they immediately think The Professional, and Natalie Portman, Jean Reno, and Gary Oldman screaming “EVERYONE!” But soon that reference may change. Léon is the name of one of Sweden’s latest pop exports, and from the sounds of her first two singles, she may be about to take the world by storm. …

Tunes for Tuesday: Röyksopp & Robyn
Tunes for Tuesday: Röyksopp & Robyn
I love Robyn, and I love Röyksopp. And yet somehow when their seminal collaboration, Do It Again, came out, I failed to post about it. Considering that most of this week’s music focuses on Beiber and Miley, neither of whom I’m really able to stand, we’re going to roll the time back and go through all five tracks from the album. …

Tunes for Tuesday: Röyksopp
Tunes for Tuesday: Röyksopp
It’s been a fair bit since Röyksopp and Robyn released their partnership effort Do It Again. Now, Röyksopp is back, with a new solo album, gloomily entitled The Inevitable End. The entire album is dark and synthy, as you can see from the lead single. Even the Robyn remix is tinted through a glass darky. (more…)

Tunes for Tuesday: Cymatics
Tunes for Tuesday: Cymatics
‘Cymatics’ is the science of visualizing audio frequencies. All of the experiments are real. This started out as a really neat video for a electronica track by artist Nigel Stanford… And then he pulled out a Tesla Coil. Then this became the most amazing video I’ll probably seen all month. For a look behind the scenes of the making…

Tunes for Tuesday: Cœur de Pirate
Tunes for Tuesday: Cœur de Pirate
We’re still on a French pop kick here after last week’s Christine and the Queens. Today’s artist, Cœur de pirate, is actually Canadian, from Montreal. Though the band is mostly just the stage name project of Béatrice Martin, the choice to go with a band name was deliberate in order to add musicians at will.
This song is her latest single, and dropped about a month ago.

Tunes for Tuesday: Christine and the Queens
Christine and the Queens. They’re relatively new French pop outfit, from headed up by singer Héloïse Letissier. She;s been releasing EPs for the last few years, but only started getting recognized last year. Here’s the title track from their 2013 EP, Nuit 17 à 52.
This musical project, from , features some fabulous euro indie pop,…

Tunes for Tuesday: David Hasselhoff's "True Survivor"
Tunes for Tuesday: David Hasselhoff’s “True Survivor”
and Lo, this is what happens, when you Hassel the Hoff.
If you’re quite confused where this came from, and why you don’t remember seeing it back in 1985, that’s because it’s brand new. Hasselhoff made it as part of a Kickstarter campaign for Kung Fury: a “spectacular action comedy that has its foundation in 80s cop movies.”

Tunes for Tuesday: Grimes "Realiti"
Tunes for Tuesday: Grimes “Realiti”
This week has blessed us with a brand new Grimes track. Sad to say this is not one that will be on her forthcoming album, which is supposed to be out sometime later this year. Instead this is from the scrapped album from last September.
The note posted along with the video: “REALiTi is “a demo from ~ the lost album ~, recorded early…

Tunes for Tuesday: 50 Shades Soundtrack
I have no interest or desire to go see this porno, either in regular or IMAX.
But the soundtrack? I’m all over that.
Below, Beyoncé’s other remix for the soundtrack, for “Haunted.”

Tunes for Tuesday: Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne
I think I spent the last month falling in love with Jess Glynne. Her solo album comes out later this year, but last year she spent working with the band Clean Bandit.
More pure perfect pop, after the jump.

Tunes for Tuesday: Diva Dance Live
Tunes for Tuesday: Diva Dance Live
We no longer recap The Voice, but this video from Russia’s version of the reality program was too stunning to pass up.
This is even more stunning when you go back and listen to the original, and realize that most of those “runs” in the techno part of the diva dance are totally autotuned/played on a synthesizer. (Trust me, I’ve…

Tunes for Tuesday: Pink Floyd
Tunes for Tuesday: Pink Floyd
I’m old school. Pink Floyd and its progressive ilk on classic rock stations were my go to back in my teenage years before iPods and digital radio existed. So when I heard they put out a new album, The Endless River, despite the band being all but basically defunct since the early 90s, I had to go check it out.
Turns out most of the…

Tunes for Tuesday: Madonna's Rebel Heart
Tunes for Tuesday: Madonna’s Rebel Heart
By this time, we all know the disaster that’s been the release of Madonna’s latest album. The whole thing isn’t supposed to drop until March of next year, but between tracks leaking left and right along with demos that didn’t make the album, that strategy changed. Last week, Madonna dropped six of the albums tracks, which automatically downloaded when you preordered the full album on iTunes.
