Shiraishi, aka, one of the best boys you��ll ever see?? Biggest doof?? I love This Man

Favorite Thing: Is it bad to say that I kind of adore his humor? Not only is most of the comic relief he’s involved in absolute gold, but it goes a long way on two fronts- it humanizes him a great degree, endearing himself and making him fit right in with Asirpa and Sugimoto as part of a little found family, and it covers up the fact that underneath his goofiness, Shiraishi can be an incredibly calculating, cautious person. 

Like we joke about him being a dumbass, and he is, but he has a plethora of skills that can’t be ignored- not only as the Escape King, but in his quick deductions of situations and weighing of his options. The dude is constantly weighing whether or not a course of action is safe, and hell, even if fleeing is his go-to, he’s not afraid to cut a bitch if push comes to shove!! Like seriously, he still has that nail up his sleeve from when he tried to cut Ushiyama, and remember, he just tosses a lit bomb Ienaga’s way during the hotel arc. Like that carries quite a lot of intent behind it. Dude was straight up ready to commit murder. With the lit bomb. His humor makes it easy to underestimate him, which makes things EXCITING!

Least Favorite Thing: His lounging gets on my nerves sometimes. I mean, mood, if I were able to mooch off of some more experienced hunters and chill around with a sweet old granny all day, or drink booze in town while gathering intel, I’d do the same thing, but at the same time his laziness is. Hm. Especially the times when he tries a get rich quick scheme and loses himself to selfishness (horse race arc). Still, this seems to be something that is being remedied, as Shiraishi travels with Asirpa and grows as a person- after all, he wanted to escape with Asirpa!! So I’m excited to see his development

Favorite Line: When Shiraishi comes rushing back in Karafuto arc saying, “Hey! Wait for me!” After he’s given the chance to run away without Asirpa. It marks such a grand bit of character development- after all, up until he’s known Sugimoto and Asirpa, he’s always chosen the selfish route that saves his own hide. This scene showed that now, he’s found someone and something he wants to protect, even at the expense of his own guaranteed safety and I just weep

brOTP: Tsukishima and Shiraishi. Listen to me. Are you listening? If Tsukishima defects Shiraishi is defs gonna be on the front lines of befriending him and also I love the idea of Tsukishima begrudgingly learning some of Shiraishi’s tricks for escape because he understands and respects that Shiraishi can be a bit dangerous. Also, he and Tsukishima have a lot in common- both have no long term goals, and both work better when they have a task given to them by someone overseeing them. Also they’d likely have a last two braincells dynamic together and I can’t wait

And as a bonus, Shiraishi and Asirpa’s friendship makes my heart glow. At this point it’s a classic case of “Oh Shit I Caught Paternal Feelings”. Love Asirpa and her two gay dads with no braincells between them.

OTP: SugiShira. Is this a contest? Is this really? Shiraishi and Sugimoto have great chemistry, not only as close friends who go through a lot together, but as romantic partners. They’re both sappy idiot romantics. They both love hanging out together. It’s a damn good match. Plus, after the events of Karafuto, they’ll have a greater understanding of one another and a stronger bond over their mutual care for Asirpa and getting out of this hunt alive… Also, some runners up are TsukiShira (just because of the “Igogusa is Shiraishi” au), ShiraKoi, ShiraTani, and ShiraKiro. He’s a damn capable bachelor ;)

nOTP: I mean if I’m really pressed, TsuruShira maybe? But otherwise, I can see almost every Shiraishi ship. Dude’s the most eligible bachelor in gk it just works

Random headcanon: He knew that chasing after the nun was a futile endeavor. I mean, nuns are giving themselves to God and whatnot- that’s hard to miss. Even if he believed Kumagashi was a shit artist, he knew he would never truly romance her- the reason he was so adamant about chasing her down, escaping prison after prison, is because it honestly just gave him something to do other than slowly rot away in a cell. Every escape, he’d tell himself, “This time, I won’t look for her. I’ll do something with my life. I’ll turn over a new leaf and just do something.” But he never knew what to do, or what job to take, or where to apply himself. And so, frustrated, he goes back to looking for his nun, trying to reignite feelings of fleeting passion so that at least he had something familiar. At least, like that, he was doing something- even if he kept running away every time.

Unpopular Opinion: Every time I see art or fic where Shiraishi is replaced by Ogata I die a little inside. Like if you wanna include Ogata with the main golden trio, fine, sure, power to you- but don’t just shove Shiraishi out of there!! He’s not replaceable!! He’s one of the main three protagonists for a reason, and to replace him with Ogata, known son of a bitch and bastard who wouldn’t know family if it hit him in the dick, is doing Shiraishi a disservice. 

Song I Associate with him: Ramblin’ Man, by the Allman Brothers Band. It’s such a fun, chill song, fitting the life of a wanderer that Shiraishi has thus far taken on! Plus, it espouses a bit of flexibility too, about the role he’s been taking in the story, rambling from group to group but always finding his way home.

Favorite Picture: Could there be a more perfect image?

The joke is, I’m also a sucker for romance, and I know if Sugimoto saw this he’d be going insane.
