#Tsuna is adorable tho

I know it doesn't need saying that Reborn is a good teacher, the series points that out to us multiple times really coming to a full realization through Bermuda who connected that these kids growth was related to Reborn. It's really hard to summarize just how true that is to the series, because there are so many little moments and big moments alike. He's both stood as a background character, letting these kids grow of their own accord and make their own decisions, and also a main character directly stepping forward and helping them when they need it. Truly and wholeheartedly, he loves those kids and does put effort into them and learning who they are as people and what helps them best. The Vongola Kids and Reborn are a special pair and though Reborn isn't Vongola, that hasn't stopped him from going affectionate. He truly loves those kids. I wanted to list a few moments that are like important to me with those kids, excluding Tsuna for length purposes but also because the series is its own case study of Tsuna and Reborn's relationship. (Maybe another post someday tho!)

Starting in no particular order, with Lambo, the thing about Lambo and Reborn's relationship is that its mostly antagonistic in that gag sort of way. See though, Reborn is always the first person to remind Tsuna of who Lambo is. To remind him that IS his Guardian and he should be taken seriously. He is the one to remind Tsuna during Future Arc that Lambo was trying to hold it together and not complain too much even though he misses Nana and the one who tells Ryohei how to 'activate' Lambo's hidden potential by mentioning Nana. Something especially important for me as well is that scene in Shimon where Reborn goes "I shouldn't have brought him here." and Lambo has that whole I'M the one who wants to come with you all. There's a frame where Reborn has the most smug little smile, as if he predicted this outcome all along. And idk yall, he's!! he's watching these kids!!

For Gokudera, he doesn't mentor him personally at any point in the series but he does always choose mentors for him that really highlight the areas he needs to improve in. Shamal for his self-preservation, Bianchi with his feelings of worth, Fon for his impatience and reckless behavior. Something especially important to me about their relationship is that Reborn and Gokudera in daily life got each others backs LOL. They raid longchamp's house together and Reborn does like to tease Gokudera and prank him as much as he likes to do it with Tsuna. Something about Gokudera gets Reborn going, gets that mean streak of his forward. That's just his funny guy.With that being said, he does!! care about him!! In future arc, he often goes around checking on everyone to make sure things are going okay. To be a little more serious with it, I think it's really enjoyable that Reborn happens to pick people to be his tutors that Gokudera personally has beef with or would agitate Gokudera. I think in a way he knows that Gokudera grows best when he's challenged, and being with people he respects (Tsuna, Reborn) doesn't serve him as much as making him acknowledge outright where his weakpoints are.

SO YAMAMOTO, RIGHT. YAMAMOTO IS ACTUALLY JUST REBORNS FAVORITE IF YOU NOTICE. ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY. THIS IS HIS FAVORITE CHILD. TSUNA WHO?? The way he just jumps off of Tsuna's shoulder to get onto Yamamotos.. cmon.. at least hide..tsuna adores you.. (There's even a scene in Daily Life where Yamamoto is like petting Reborn and Reborn is just looking at him with a "c:" and Tsuna GRUMBLES TO HIMSELF ABOUT HOW IF IT WAS TSUNA TOUCHING HIM HE WOULD HAVE ALREADY BEATEN HIM UP) Sort of going off from how Gokudera is also lowkey always being pranked by Reborn, Yamamoto isn't and my friends and I kinda realized Reborn.. likes the idiots. He's a fan of the dumbasses. He's so nice to Yamamoto and Ryohei, while making clowns of the smart ones or bullying the 'annoying' ones. OKAY, but really. Reborn's recruited most of the Vongola kids into the family, Yamamoto being his pride and joy when it comes to that. He has that really funny moment in Varia arc where hes all 'Aren't I amazing for being the one to find Yamamoto? ^-^" He also is in charge of training Yamamoto for a little bit of Future arc too, and he establishes to the audience that Yamamoto is a natural born hitman. I think it's also fun that during their training too, he motivates Yamamoto by telling him that if he can complete his training and keep his carefree smile (someday I'll have to do a post about Reborn and his relationship with the Mafia as a whole bc ahh!!) he'll tell him his secret. He sort of activates this kind of like hidden competitiveness IN Yamamoto by doing that and ensures he brings it up throughout the training and gives little hints of 'Before I was a baby - Ah, I shouldn't have said that." It's a little bit of lighthearted taunting too. Or when Yamamoto is knocked down, he tells him that he's doing good, and Yamamoto's like "Yeah right, I bet you're not even trying." Also, a little small interaction that might even go unnoticed is when Yamamoto is attacked during Shimon and Tsuna gets that phone call. The whole time Reborn is quietly questioning "What's wrong? Did something happen to Yamamoto?" "What's his condition?" and then he tells Tsuna he'll head in first (Which honestly I believe is more of a Tsuna/Reborn thing than Yamamoto/Reborn thing, he probably wanted to spare him having to see whatever condition Yam was in but its fair enough to note. He also is the one that goes and investigates the locker room where Yam was attacked to get things started. He's sweet on the guy.

(FYI? WHY DO MY YAMAMOTO SECTIONS ALWAYS END UP THE LARGEST?? ITS NOT ON PURPOSE OR FAVORING IT JUST HAPPENS THIS WAY.) In terms of Ryohei, there's this sort of mutual respect thing going on. Don't get me wrong, he thinks the guy is a dumbass khjnkhj but he is always more than happy to play along as 'Master PaoPao' and he put thought into who would be good for Ryohei as a mentor. He chooses someone like Colonello (a dumb himbo just like him-) to train him and there's an undeniable pride in him in Future Arc when he sees TYL Ryohei where he tells him that he's really matured over the years. I believe Ryohei was also somebody that Reborn personally wanted to recruit into the Vongola family, seeing his potential from the beginning.

Hibari.. Oh, Hibari. Reborn knows exactly how to play Hibari, that's the Vongola's secret weapon. He gets Dino to train him, someone who can keep up with the exponential growth and the need for the training to be battling bc otherwise how else are you gonna prank this gremlin into getting stronger for the team. And that fucking um promise that Hibari will get an opportunity to battle him? Never happens, he just fucking lies to Hibari. By the time it may be plausible, Hibari is more focused on his real rivals, the other Vongola Guardians and the boss. ('This team is full of people who I really want to bite to death' 'Someday even the sky will be beaten to death' 'Mukuro's my prey') But I don't think the relationship between Hibari and Reborn is inherently Reborn manipulating our battle freak. Similar to Ryohei and Reborn, there's a quiet respect. There's that scene in Future arc, where Reborn goes 'I missed you, Hibari<3" and TYL hibari just smiles at him and goes, 'Same here, baby' like those two are!! pals!! In general, I think Hibari is a good example of Reborn's adaptability with these kids as it takes a certain kind of energy to ..deal with Hibari.

Chrome!! There's not a lot of Chrome and Reborn scenes, but the ones there are really sweet. He does check up on her pretty often when she's sick during Future arc as well as while she's training with Bianchi. The really important scene between them is the one that happens during Rainbow arc where he understands that her issues regarding Mukuro being free. You see something really fun about Reborn is that he's pretty good with guiding someone to their answer rather than answering it for them. In this moment, and the moment that catches Bermuda's attention, is the fact that all he had asked her was what she wanted to be to in relation to Mukuro. This helped her steady herself and allowed her to enter the battle, which ultimately protected them against Vindice. And that's so special to me, because it was the final push for Chrome to wrap up her arc about her conviction and her resolution of her own accord and it came from our delightful tutor. I think Chrome is our example of Reborn's job being to make Tsuna into Vongola Tenth results in more than just focusing on Tsuna. (The others too of course are examples of this!) ALSO DO YOU EVER THINK ABOUT THE FACT THAT HE VISITED HER IN THE HOSPITAL TO HELP HER AND ALSO ASKED HER TO BE HIS REPRESENTATIVE AFTER HE HEARD HOW SHE RESPONDED? UGHHH. Reborn..Chrome...

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, Mukuro! So Mukuro's relationship with Reborn is lowkey interesting to me sdkjhn. First of all, its implied that Mukuro knows about all the arco stuff in Kokuyo arc. As he calls Reborn an arcobaleno like it's a slur OTL. He also has his reservations about the way Mukuro comes to gain his powers, again Kokuyo when he called him a monster. During Varia arc, Reborn tells Tsuna that he should never forget what Mukuro had done to them previously. A sentiment he seemed to soften over, as TYL Mukuro aided in ending the war on Milefiore. By Shimon, they have a pretty funny interaction where Reborn catches Mukuro as an owl and then promptly kicks him after Mukuro was rude to him dhjkn. It all ends up becoming a thing where Reborn can understand where Mukuro comes from when it comes to his odd cold actions regarding Chrome. In a way, understanding that he too was trying to help Chrome. And I will never ever forget that moment where at the end of Kokuyo, WHERE REBORN SPOTS MUKURO HAVING POSSESSED SOMEONE AND COMMENTING THAT HE MUST BE LONELY AND IF HE WANTS TO PLAY AGAIN THEY'LL DO SO ANYTIME. yall.... mukuro do it. just admit that you're vongola........ Mukuro never makes his loneliness obvious, but with his upbringing it makes sense.. the way he never uses his teammates even though he acts like they're just his tools..god..Reborn sees through him and so do we..

I usually do not talk about my khr selfinsert/oc but honestly i AM very interested about your thoughts if i just let you lose, so.

"Rena Paolina" (birthname: Alyona Ivanovna Tsareyev), about the age of Tsuna and his guardians is a young woman with a hand for childcare and a trained theater teacher. She was partially scouted by the Vongola to be part of a mafia centric daycare, for the offspring of the Vongola families memebers (There is also another reason why they keep a close eye on her). She has a knack foe identifying what kids need and how to get them to behave, which was especially helpful with the still young Lambo. She is not a fighter (or so she claims) and she completely focuses on her work at the daycare and her small theater group.

Her origin are only known to CEDEF, Reborn and Dino as Dino was the first person she met when she came to italy. She gets along well with Tsunayoshi and his guardians tho she only really seems to bicker and butt heads with Gokudera. With everyone else she seems to find ways to be on good terms with them.

She is a very righteous person and can be hotheaded when it concerns topics that hit close to home. Then she usually becomes short sighted and so heated she ends up running herself into a corner. Even tho she repeatedly says that children scare her and that she isnt very good at caring for them there have not been many kids who ever disliked her. She openly speaks her mind and opinion even to people that have a standing above her, tho she does adjust her way of speaking to not be too disrespectful. She has a passion for theater and really blooms in theater related projects, happily teaching others about it and helping them discover themselves through the magic of theater. However she does shy away from ever getting too much into public spaces for some reason.

This reason being that she is terrified of someone possibly figuring out where she comes from.

"Rena" is actually the only child of the Leonov families boss Ivan Anatolyevich Tsareyev, a mafia family that is notorious for their incredibly conservative ways. Originally her family was banished, as her father was usurped by his own right hand man and had to flee the country. However as Rena became a teenager her father traveled alone back to his home and through gruesome circumstances he managed to take back leadership, making sure to rule through fear. He wanted ro take his wife and daughter back home, however Rena was very against this new life and she ran away from home finding her way to italy where she begged to be taken in. Reborn decided that considering her age and inexperience with anything related ro the underworld she could be allowed to work for the vongoa tho under strict supervision. Should her family ever become an issue in politics she would make a fine hostage.

But even in her youth as her family was banished she had a boy by her side, about the same age as her by the name of Dimitri. While everyone went against her father, only his bodyguard stood with him and followed her family. It was his son that was early on tasked with protecting Rena even as a civilian and when she decided to run away he saw it as his duty to protect her by allowing her to escape. With the years passing she managed to truly prove herself in her craft and became a valued and beloved caretaker even if there are always the entitled parents that try to make her life a living hell.

* Lambo adores her as she manages to thread the needle between pulling him back in reins and engaging in his antics.

* in her fifth year at the vongola she had proven herself enough to turn her small theater group into an actual ensemble, even being provided a small theater where they can properly perform even if only for a small audience.

* Reborn always kept one step in the suspicion territory but after seeing how skilled she is at actually taking care of mafia children he realized that she was a valuable asset to the family.

* While on official documents she is listed as having a storm flame she actually posesses a sky flame.

* she is not a fighter. She can protect herself when it comes down to it but she is definitely more a civi than a fleshed out mafiosi.

* Dima keeps an eye on her from afar. He never dared to actually meet her, but ever so often he makes a trip to italy to watch over her for a day before he returns to other duties. Rena has never noticed this.

* The reason Rena is quite close with the tenth family (or the neo vongola family) is not just their similar age, but also that she was one of the first introduced into the circle as soon as the mafia business really started. She took care of a lot of mundane tasks and took care of Lambo first and foremost.

* She actually kind of enjoys her back and forth with Gokudera tho she isnt sure if he sees it the same way.

* On the outside Rena seems to most like she has everything figured out and knows what she is doing. However in that case she is the true embodiment of "fake it till you make it". She is WAY more anxious than people believe her to be.

So I guess i am not asking for anything specific, i mean you know i ship with dera, but I wanted to just give you an opportunity to give me your opinion? Ideas? Critique??? I dont really know myself.

@eternitas I dug this up in the queue before work today, just as I know you've been waiting for it ans it keeps getting sent down in wach new reshuffle! First off, let me just say that I am deeply honored that you feel comfortable sharing your self-insert/OC with me. I know that takes a lot of bravery to do, as these sorts of characters become very meaningful and dear to our hearts. I’m not entirely sure what to really give you back though! Because this reply is published publicly on the blog, I am going to ask if you’re okay with other readers commenting on the beautiful Rena and, if you are, I ask my gorgeous constant readers – do any of you lovelies want to comment or ask questions about the character, other than the ones I will be asking? (Though a reminder that all comments and questions must be respectful, anything that I feel is mean-spirited will not be shared and might earn you a block from the blog because again – sharing these types of characters takes a lot of courage). What I ended up giving you was just my thoughts, sometimes an occasional comment that I had while reading through the description of Rena, but mostly questions on her though because I am always very curious about characters! Oh, so many questions! I hope the questions will make sense and that none of it will come off as rude or nosey!! Even the critiques are more meant as…okay, that’s an interesting writing choice. This is how I always thought about the character/process, so I’m just really interested in why you think this thing instead – because, as a reminder, mine is not the only right way to see things and by asking questions and hearing other people’s views, I get to learn new things and see characters and situations in lights that I might never have considered! (Also, please, please, even if there is no event going on, please feel free to send me profiles for the Varia boys, and please know, to my lovely other readers, that I am always interested in hearing about people’s self-inserts or original characters 😊)

How is Rena pronounced? Like Ray-nah or like Ree-na?

Where Rena has a birthname and a new chosen name, how did she settle on the name Rena Paolina? What drew her to that first and last name? Is there any significance behind it?

Where she does have the birthname and then her new identity, did she legally change her name? Most Mafia families would work with forged documents and would be able to spot fake documents, even well-made ones if the family is experienced enough, so I feel she’d be living dangerously relying on just forged documents. Did she go through something like what Reborn went through after becoming cursed, where he went to some sort of specialist, referred to him through Shamal (or maybe even Shamal himself, who knows) and got her old identity completely erased and a new one constructed for her by the best of the best to avoid any danger?

If Rena is around Tsuna’s age, did she temporarily go on the leave from the Vongola after high school to get her theatre degree? If so, who took over childcare while she was gone? Was her absence really noticed? How much contact did she keep in with her friends, if the theatre school she went to wasn’t in Japan? Did they come to visit her often and if so, who showed the most interest in what she was learning about? (Do you see any of the Guardians or Tsuna’s other family members as being really interested in the theatre and acting?)

Why was she scouted for the Vongola? I can see them keeping an eye on her for potential threats and having the attitude of keeping your enemies closer, but why in particular was she scouted for the position she was scouted for? Why would they entrust her with the next generation of the Vongola if there was that fear about her family? Had she proven herself to them in some way? Was she supervised while in the daycare for the first several years until she had shown her loyalty? Or was it that Tsuna and Timoteo's hyper intuition saw through all and knew Rena had a heart of gold and would never hurt any of them or the Vongola itself?

Lambo would obviously give Rena a run for her money and probably tire her out but what about the other children? How does she get along with I-Pin, who is just as energetic but less rambunctious and trouble-making? What about slightly older children like Fuuta? Especially Fuuta, actually, whose ranking abilities could prove dangerous if they were to reveal something she didn’t want to come out, like who she was in the past?

I actually really, really enjoy the fact that Rena isn’t much of a physical fighter and does such a niche job. It makes her much more relatable, in my opinion, without the worry of her being overpowered or anything along those lines. I also love that she has clear passions and interests of her own, things that she enjoys doing that are completely separate from Mafia life because it makes her feel more realistic as a person and more fleshed out and dimensional as a character.

This is the only critique I have and it’s more a question. If she is indeed part of the Vongola, why are her origins only known to Reborn, Dino, and CEDEF. Reborn and CEDEF have no say as to who becomes Vongola, though Reborn recruits for Tsuna’s family specifically and even then, they kind of need to be invited in by Tsuna or at least accepted by Tsuna as part of his family. So, am I confused, and she’s scouted as part of specifically Tsuna’s generation? Because otherwise Timoteo and his Guardians would know about her, and I could honestly see Timoteo being the most sympathetic to her plight and the one most likely to take her in, while I could see Iemitsu and CEDEF and especially Reborn being the more extremely wary of Rena, because they would view her more of a threat, where Timoteo, especially with the help of Vongola’s Hyper-Intuition, would view Rena more as a child in a bad spot who needs a safe place to be and as a human being who means them no harm, something his Hyper-Intuition tells him in his heart and I could actually see him doing everything in his power to bring her into the fold and provide a stable 'father-like' figure to her.

Or am I confused and this takes place when Tsuna is an adult, though that would make no sense as Lambo would be much too old to need childcare at that point, though some of the family members would have children of their own that might need childcare during that time?

How did she meet Dino, where he’s the first person she met upon arriving in Italy? Why did she choose Italy to flee to? Was it a conscious choice or was it more that that was the first flight she could grab?

What are the topics that hit close to home for her? What are the causes and topics she’s passionate about and that get her heated?

If Rena is someone unafraid to speak her mind to anyone and everyone, how is it that she hasn’t gotten herself ‘bitten to death’ by people like Hibari? Or Xanxus, Bel, and Squalo, should she have ever met them? Are there times when she knows how to keep her opinions to herself, because doing otherwise would lead to danger or possible fights, or is she the impulsive type whose mouth sometimes gets the better of her (which I would sympathize with her on if that's the case because sometimes my mouth gets ahead of my head)?

If Rena doesn’t want to perform in public spaces due to a fear of being found out, does that mean the theatre group only performs for the Vongola? Just wondering as I’m just a little confused as to that, because here at least, even the backstage crew gets pulled onto the stage at the end of the show to get their round of applause. Is it different in other countries and I'm just being ignorant? I can't remember if I asked above, but what role does she play in the theatre troop? Does she direct, act, write original plays, anything? I am so, so, so intensely curious and intrigued by this aspect of her and it's one of my favourite things about her, no lie!!

Is her family Russian Mafia? And what do you mean by conservative ways, precisely? Are we talking stereotypical brutal Russian mob, who terrorizes, extorts, blackmails, and murders those inside their own territory? If so, how was the family not taken apart by the townspeople they subjugated during the internal chaos of the coup d’etat where his right hand man took the Boss’ seat? How did his right-hand man take over a family like that while still leaving the former Boss alive, especially as it would be a huge threat to the right-hand man since the former boss could gather anyone even the least bit loyal to him back to his side and could come gunning for the person who took over his role by force. A point blank killing of Ivan would make more sense to me, so I’m just trying to dig into the world here and figure out if there were reasons he was left behind and how all this turmoil in her family happened.

Where did her family resettle, if they were forced out of the country? Did she like that country? Would she return there? Would she ever return to Russia, if the danger of being found out for who she was was taken away? Like, was her childhood there one that she would have loved if born from a different family?

Since she ran way, does she ever contact her parents from a secure line to let them know she is safe? It seems unreasonably cruel, since there’s no hints that her father or mother were abusive to her, for her to leave them there for years upon years wondering if she was safe, if their child had been killed, and all that. Is there more to this family’s story than what’s being told at first glance? Again, this is such an intriguing, interesting backstory that I want to deep dive into it and learn every little bit of information I can about it, like I would want to deep dive into any characters from published anime/manga!

Why did Dmitri not go with her when she ran away, if his purpose and life’s work was really to be her bodyguard? Why did he not follow her after ensuring she got safely out, meeting her at somewhere they would have agreed upon? There’s no way she could have guaranteed safety as a runaway living on the streets, hoping someone would take her in, so I would think he’d be even more insistent on being able to stay with her and protect her. Was it under her orders, to keep him potentially safe, since I know for sure she does genuinely have a good heart and would deeply care about someone who'd been so close to her?

How does she fake having a Storm Flame to seal these official documents? I don’t think Flame types are officially listed on most paperwork, since the only valid way to prove it for it to be recorded would be to light the flame on a Ring? I have nothing against her being a Sky flame, just wondering how she fakes the Storm Flame or if she just has a weak secondary Storm Flame, which would also make complete sense with her personality!

If Dmitri knows where she is and watches her from afar, why has he just not approached her? If it’s because he could be caught doing so, he’d be caught doing observation and surveillance on her, wouldn’t he? Is he nervous she'd be upset or is he worried he might not fit into her new life??

tbh i really love his master pao pao costume!! i just find it so adorable, from his shorts, boxing gloves, elephant helmet to his little beard. and like, this might be weird to say lol, but i think he really pulls that costume off somehow. tho of course i’m really biased here as i love the first appearance of master pao pao because of that scene where he calls ryohei impressive, but for getting a look at all his different costumes on the wikia, even objectively speaking master pao pao is still the superior costume, sorry not sorry. <3

Not to mention the smell of people always got him iffy and nauseous.

Slowing down his breathing, Enma tried to move as fast as he could through the waves of people. He mumbled excuse me under his breath with every steps he took, making his way towards a mall that was packed with people

But he endured. After all, he was meeting with Tsuna there, and so as long he could spend time with Tsuna, all was worth the trouble.

 Enma froze in place as people ran pass him, cars quickly rushing away from the building while some stuck were stuck in place right in front of him.

 The building caved down even before the timer hit 2.

 Enma's ears were ringing from the loud sounds around him, from the fact that the building where Tsuna was was in shambles.

 Tsuna, he was in there still.

 Enma ran down the streets towards the building.

 "Tsuna, Tsuna, Tsuna." He mumbled mindlessly, pushing past people who ran the opposite direction. "Tsuna!" He screamed.

 "Giotto! Where are you?!"

 Tears unknowingly dripped down his face as he tripped and kicked himself up even before he fell. "Tsuna!"

 Everything overlapped in his eyes.

 "Tsuna!" "Giotto!"

 Why was it him? Why not Enma? Why not Enma again?

 Why?

 Giotto groaned, injured from the falling beam of wood. It had hit him when he was getting into the house, but fortunately, it was the only thing that had hit him.

 Unfortunately, because it was too heavy and that he had hit his head on the ground, he couldn't get up. He squinted at the collapsed house, trying to pull himself out from beneath the beam to no avail, and croaked. "Cozarto..."

 He coughed and breathed in deeply, grunting in pain as he pushed at the beam on top of his body. "Cozarto!"

 His beloved; his Cozarto, he was in the house when it collapsed. His ears were ringing still, but he could hear Cozarto's voice. "Cozarto, hold on!" He cried. "Please, hold on!"

 Giotto screamed as tried again, and again, and again. Cozarto's voice were softening, and Giotto knew he was running out of time. He had to hurry.

 "Help!" He desperately shouted at the top of his lungs, trying to scream for whoever that could hear him from the nearby village. "Please, somebody help!"

 It was too late.

 "Dear god, please, let it be me the next round, please don't hurt my beloved anymore."

A/N: it looks a bit confusing.... but basically, during their last lifetime as cozarto and giotto, there was an earthquake that ended up with the both of them buried under their house but giotto had it better because he was still out of the door when it happened. Then in this lifetime, it turned into tsuna being buried under a wholeass building instead.

I just added the last line but basically they got their wish. They hoped next time it is them who is injured, and they got it. And it continues on and on and on. I didn't write the subsequent cycles mostly because am lazy which is why i put it as an open end. Whether Tsuna survived, or not, and their next lifetime continues with the same thing happening with the other party getting it, it's all up to you guys.

I did think of not letting them have an happy end forever tho, like, every cycle they can never grow up old together; each lifetime they suffer from separation because of one wish they continuously wished for during every cycle. Be careful of what you wish for, essentially :)

when I started shipping it if I did: tsunade hadn't even been properly introduced yet but the moment i saw that jiraiya walked around with a picture of her on his wallet it legit felt like a punch on the stomach - i knew i was in for a treat (and by treat i mean an unrequired ship). however, it was the banter in the search for tsunade arc that made me ship them for real.

my thoughts: while i love the ship, i also hate it bc??? if i'm looking for their best interests individually?? i'm glad they aren't together - both would deserve better than the other tbh (i know, sounds ridiculous ironic considering 90% of my blog is jiratsu based), don't get me wrong, i love them but i don't want tsunade to be with someone who's perverted to the point of spying on women like a total creep, and alternatively i highly wouldn't want jiraiya to be with someone who's been physically abusive to his throughout his entire life (arguably with reason tho, but still), also? both would be ready to kill the other if need arised (she was totally gonna use jira for the edo tensei if she hadn't met naruto, and jiraiya would hunt her ass down if she joined orochimaru), but i personally don't have much issue about that in specific - it makes a lot of sense, in universe speaking that is, because they have their reasons and it was never actively acted upon it. with all that being said?? i still feel so much pain at what happened (or rather didn't happen) between them!! right when they could potentially give it a try, fate took him out. now they are both miserable, another death of a loved one for tsuna and yet another failure for jiraiya to add for his collection. it's so tragically beautiful that the more it hurts the more i love it.

What makes me happy about them: their personalities really compliment each other in a chaotic way - you can feel the mutual understanding between them, their bond is so deep that they communicate without speaking, they know each other's hearts even if they are decades apart and, even if they don't agree on everything (and they really don't) they still respect each other and stand by their side, having their backs if it's needed.

What makes me sad about them: they are both horrible people in their own ways, either due to trauma (tsunade) or by lack of emotional maturity (jiraiya), and that translates to their relationships as well (ofc we can argue that the sannin as a whole are all fucked up in the head because of ptsd and other traumas but still, they are all broken), which can be really really bad

things done in fanfic that annoys me: jiraiya bashing while putting her in a pedestal (again, they are both very flawed people), fics where he basically tries to force himself on her (which is ridiculous because, although he is a pervert, he would never force himself on anyone - doesn't matter who, he just wouldn't do that) like a fucking incel or smth and, ofc, fics where tsuna just beats him up more out of habit than because she has a reason behind - i get the comic relief it has, but still...i find very hard to laugh at straight up violence (which is why i cannot for the life of me ship ********)

things I look for in fanfic: good writing and in character scenes tbh, i have yet to find this but a long and happy fic about them would be a nice change - they are all so angsty lmao also?? i'll always crave a fic set on the way back from the search for tsunade arc bc the antics of that found family (jiraiya, tsunade, shizune and naruto) is just too adorable to me lmao

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: tsunade with orochimaru (yes, fight me lol) or even koji bc why not i did like her interactions with the raikage too, jiraiya i'd honestly be happy if he just moved on from tsunade and went to that nadeshiko village and got married (as he was supposed to lmao well, kinda - according to the nadeshiko culture he was to be her husband so- yeah) with shizuka's mentor (god i like her so much it is a shame they didn't even give her a name :/)

My happily ever after for them: him surviving the paths and just retiring after the war, they didn't even have to be together as a couple but if they went to travel together (as friends, lovers, its complicated or whatever) it would warm my heart

A Semi-Comprehensive List of Learning Italian Struggles + Headcanons: by Haru

Hey kids welcome to another post that I wrote like a year ago but never posted--

A moment of silence for everyone who had to learn Italian once they joined the Vongola. Yes, they could always get translators but imagine they’re in the middle of a fight or doing some kind of hostage swap and the enemy is yelling at them in Italian and they both need to wait...for the translators to calmly repeat everything they’re saying...

also they gotta learn Italian so they can trash talk in it during fights. get your priorities straight. 

Inspired by @caelistus (I WILL ALWAYS LOVE OUR GAMER AU) and my own experiences learning Spanish lmao

After returning from the future and settling back into the normal swing of things (as normal as their lives can get now that Haru knows Tsuna’s next-in-line to be a Mafia boss and wow talk about something you don’t hear every Sunday night at dinner) 

Haru has packs and packs of flashcards organized by topic (food, leisure, athletics, etc.) bc she’s a math person and memorizing vocab sucks. Numbers are what she’s good at it. They’re simple. Universal. With numbers you don’t have to worry about correct spelling or pronunciation or this unfamiliar alphabet. Numbers are nice.

No seriously she has an entire box filled with piles of flashcards tied w/a pretty ribbon. 

Bookshelf slowly becomes mixed with Italian books next to her Japanese ones. As she gets more advanced she goes from children’s books to actual literature, as well as cooking + history books. 

Haru has always adored Italian food and menus were probably one of the first things she was able to fully read and understand. She was motivated by the desire to order food by herself to improve her food + restaurant vocab !!

So Japanese is subject object verb but Italian is subject verb object and even though Haru took English before she switched to Italian, she sometimes will still mix up the sentence structure.  

“Professore, Haru knows you just taught us this conjugation rule, but you immediately showed us at least 15 exceptions to it, so--” 

(Gamer AU) She picks up Gio and G’s little speaking habits even though it takes her ages to be able to understand them. They have a regional accent and use slang and talk really fast and she’s like ??? sLOW DOWN WE HAVEN’T REACHED THAT VOCAB SECTION YET

Haru invests in an Italian-Japanese pocket dictionary.

She also picks up their Naples accent which baffles her professore because how??? Has his most diligent student been watching a ton of Italian soaps set in Naples??? like how else does she know all their regional expressions and traditions

ALSO just imagine Haru trying to speak Italian and she inadvertently makes a hella racy innuendo without realizing it and G and Gio are rolling on the ground dying while Haru’s just like ????

honestly Haru probs knows more Italian curse words than her professore bc of all the time she spends w/Gokudera, the Varia, maybe Reborn??? (lmao I love the image of ‘Dera teaching her how to curse like a sailor) 

Also probs knows a bunch of Italian herbs and poisons bc of Bianchi ??? omg that’d actually be kind of funny like she doesn’t know how to say ‘pencil’ but she can rattle off 10+ herbs to poison someone and make it look like an accident (Haru’s Professore is mildly concerned. Like always.)

ACTUALLY THO if you really think abt Haru learning from exposure (friends handling Vongola business in Italian, trips to Vongola HQ in Italy, reading contracts and agreements) she’d know best the vocab and phrases that you’d hear the most in the mafia, so it’s almost kind of weird ??? She knows how to discuss things like alliances and body count and guns but struggles w/talking about the weather. 

i just realized that’s more sad than weird but. 

BONUS !! Cultural Differences

The physical contact + kisses on the cheek for hello and goodbye takes some getting used to, since in Japanese culture there tends to be less PDA. Also if the stereotype that Italian guys are total flirts is true, Haru would probably find it super embarrassing on her part bc they act so smooth and charming and she doesn’t know how to deal with this !!!
