ok as promised, i watched conclave
wrote down my thoughts and impressions as I went, live-blog style except i was blogging at myself
posted here for those who might care to see them, but below a readmore as it got a bit long. and, em. emotional
please know, i don't need answers to the questions I've made notes of here I already googled them. Also be warned, I never learned to spell and I'm not about to start now
oh dip john lithgow is in this, that bodes well /s
(look up the fancy papal ring)
There's angels in the walls
those glasses are doing nothing for StanTucc, gotta turn down the sexy somehow i suppose
(look up vatican death face keenex)
ok yeah a dude from the terror directed this, it's got pomp frotting all up against bruising mundanity. wax seal interposed with squeaky gurney wheel. good stuff
the heartbeat sound of the gurney clicking back and forth in the back of the ambulance SOMEBODY ISN'T FULLY DEAD YET somebody's getting ready to haunt the narrativvvvve
i will never not be obsessed with ancient institutions having to adapt to modern technology. Updating the security so they can't eavesdrop via lasers against the glass? Nuns on a motorcoach? Cardinals with wheeled luggage? Pile of '00s desk phones on terra cotta tiles? Cardinal with a bright red phone case?? Spectacular (I accept this is an American affectation, we have comparatively few ancient things here and our institutions tend to update themselves very very quickly)
Eminence Tedesco can slap my impudent hands any time he likes
ok yeah a dude from the terror directed this because it's black, white, red, and gold where the terror was black, white, navy, and gold
Oop here we go, intrigue starting
I'm sorry the travertine floors are gorgeous and I want them
LOL nuns in a commercial kitchen. magnificent
Oh ho ho the lost heir emerges, the tropes are hungry
(look up in pectore)
Hello Mr Lost Heir i mean Surprise Cardinal Benitez sir you have beautiful hands
Oop he praised the nuns, he's going to do very well
Oh WOW 25 minutes in and we got our first racism (or at least the first one I picked up on) 😬
Bellini: "I don't want the papacy" mmmm sure Jan
Lawrence the code switcher, speaking italian, speaking latin, calling Tremblay "Joe" - gotta respect it
There are wings in those walls
The fucking .... what is that, a Nespresso? Wild
Goodness but the set design on the dormitory here. I've been in meat lockers that were more hospitable
Well hello close-up silhouette shot. Trying not to make a theme of it but it's very clear the guy who did this also did the terror
Ralph Fiennes' eyes are doing so much heavy lifting here they should get second billing in the credits
The repetition of the ornate costumes such that the finery gets lost and we're left with a background texture that is also living people. Not to belabor the point but yeah a dude from the terror directed this
"Let me speak for the heart for a moment" -> me and everyone else in that room: this guy would be a really good pope probably
I am really impressed that all these red capes and hats are the same red, modern technology is a miracle
Normally an ominous bolting of a door would make me nervous but these guys all seem like they get along really well so it's probably fine
Are they gonna burn the ballots YESSS tHEY BURNED THE BALLOTS this is spectacular
We hear the crowd, we don't see the crowd. I see what they're doing here
Well that was the most circuitous way to tell that story, mr aide person Ray, but full points for building the tension
I wonder if the little motor coaches that ferry them to and from the dormitory will be electric someday
The holy father's ... turtles
OH this is delicious. In the span of six lines of dialog Benitez has flipped the situation around from Lawrence asking him about his health to Lawrence making a confession to him. SPECTACULAR
OH NO Disappointed StanTucc face, anything but that
These vote tallies are gripping. I'm gripped.
Ohhh the color story here. Lawrence you do not belong in this room. This is a room for the nuns, the chairs are blue, the walls are blue, the light is blue, the curtains are blue. His red cape and cap scream violence in a way his tone cannot overcome (I know blue=Mary, that's not the point that's being made here)
Ayedemi what did you doooooo
Wings in the walls again. And now also eyes of judgement
Ah. That's what Ayedemi did.
"So I still have hope" -> wow.
Another magnificently efficient scene. Twenty lines of dialogue? And a man convincingly goes from bluster to weeping
The candidates at empty tables while the fifth vote tally is a delicious choice
Oh look it's Bad-News Ray, also known as Drabs-of-Expedition Ray. I love this guy I wanna be this guy
At this point I feel like we're seeing Lawrence as a man in an extremely stressful administrator's job, a job he's had for a very long time, juussst edging right up to the upper limit of what he can reasonably handle. Sure hope the pot doesn't continue to boil - or something happens to diminish his fortitude
Those're some really lovely gold bedlinens there, Benitez. I guess we can speculate as to who the housekeeping staff are pulling for
There are pointed spears and arrows in the walls
Even the login screen in the nun room is blue, spectacular
And now comes Lawrence into the Blue Nun Room but this time without his red cape, and when we press into the close-up shot we can't see his red cap either. Excellent camera angles happening here
What's in your emaillllls, Sister Agnes??
Oh. That's tidy
Lawrence without his red cap now, and we can't see what's in the walls. Only the red runner on the floor (just like in a children's hospital)
OH. OH OH OH GOSH. Literal seal, literally broken. That was a deeply visceral sound effect
A delightful scene humanizing a holy and unknowable (cuz dead) figure. Aspirin. Rubber bands. Breath mints. Dirty eyeglasses
Sister Agnes is gonna beat Lawrence up and down that hallway or so help me. The spear points in the walls are facing upward now, we are in vigilant watcher mode
There are ghostly dead roots in the walls
Lawrence is a spectacularly lonely man, I think. Most priests are, but I think he is lonelier than most. Probably cuz he can't pray right now
oo-woo what's this in the headboard
Bellini you old grouch. Lawrence is right, by the way, pessimism is the refuge of a coward
GET 'EM AGNES HELL YEAH. The holy photocopier of revenge, that's delightful
(look up mendacious)
Hahhhhh get 'em Agnes. Go on Tremblay, deny it now
WOW
There are swirls of emotion behind Bellini in the walls, and tidy columns and rows of ordered distress behind Lawrence. In the walls
Tedesco has absolutely gorgeous hair, sir, please, tell us your secrets
HOLY SHIT
Oof
WOW
oh
.... sorry I need a moment
And we're back.
A quick comment: even here, in this scene, we don't see the crowd. Only the actions of the crowd. We are well and truly sequestered.
Nuns on the move! That bodes well, I'm sure
The walls are pillars now
Humans as texture. Flowing around a water fountain. Lovely
Tremblay's glasses are broken. Very nice visual
OH gosh Benitez looks like he wants to throw up
And here's Exposition Ray. With 15 minutes of runtime left
Clinic for what, said no one ever
OH
I stand corrected
(I thought it was AIDS)
I need another moment
OK, had to go do the dishes and walk around a bit but that is ... ok. Two words, and they are everything. I want to write a dissertation on this moment because ... because ...
I'm really glad this movie got made.
And that it was made this point in time, in particular
In a slightly lighter opinion: I'm shocked this came as a spoiler, with all the posts I've seen online. In retrospect I think I might've seen a post or two about intersex but .... wow. Just, wow
He has really beautiful hands
From personal experience: Benitez is correct. To exist between the world's certainties, so to speak, is a very powerful way of being human
We hear the crowd. We don't see the crowd.
His Holy Father's Turtle ohhh be nice to the turtle please
I am fascinated by the smoke-making machine. Was that a custom job? Is that a standard piece of equipment I was previously unaware of?
We hear the crowd. We don't see the crowd.
The walls are watching, and they seem unkind
But the birds are singing, and the nuns are happy. So maybe things will be ok?

Selecting The Best Walls Tiles for Your Home
When it comes to selecting tiles for walls, there are several options available in the market. Here are some of the best tile options for walls:
Ceramic Tiles: These tiles are a popular choice for wall installations due to their durability, ease of maintenance, and affordability. They come in a variety of colors, patterns, and textures, making them a versatile option for any style of decor.
Porcelain Tiles: These are made from a finer clay than ceramic tiles, which makes them denser and more water-resistant. Porcelain tiles are ideal for use in areas that experience high levels of moisture, such as bathrooms and kitchens.
Tumblr media
Glass Tiles: Glass tiles can add a unique and modern touch to any wall. They are available in a variety of colors and finishes, from glossy to matte, and can be used to create stunning backsplashes and accent walls.
Stone Tiles: Natural stone tiles, such as marble, granite, and travertine, can add a timeless and elegant touch to any wall. They are durable and easy to maintain, and their natural variations in color and texture can add character to any space.
Mosaic Tiles: Mosaic tiles are small tiles that are arranged in a pattern or design to create a larger image. They are a great option for creating intricate designs on walls and can be made from a variety of materials, including glass, ceramic, and stone.
Ultimately, the best tiles for walls will depend on the specific needs and aesthetic preferences of the homeowner. It's important to consider factors such as durability, maintenance, and moisture resistance when selecting tiles for wall installations.
Is wall tiles better than paint?
Whether wall tiles are better than paint depends on the specific needs and preferences of the homeowner. Here are some factors to consider when comparing wall tiles to paint:
Durability: Wall tiles are generally more durable than paint, especially in areas that experience high levels of moisture or wear and tear. Tiles are resistant to scratches, fading, and stains, and they can last for decades with proper installation and maintenance. Paint, on the other hand, can chip, peel, or fade over time, especially in high-traffic areas.
Maintenance: Wall tiles are easier to clean and maintain than paint, as they are resistant to water, stains, and mildew. They can be wiped clean with a damp cloth or mild cleaning solution, and they do not require regular repainting or touch-ups. Paint may require regular touch-ups and cleaning, especially in areas that experience high levels of moisture or dirt.
Style and Aesthetics: Wall tiles come in a variety of colors, patterns, and textures, which can add character and visual interest to any space. Paint, on the other hand, offers a wider range of color options but may lack the depth and texture of tiles.
Installation: Wall tiles require professional installation, which can be time-consuming and costly. Paint can be applied by a homeowner with basic DIY skills, which can save time and money.
Cost: Wall tiles are generally more expensive than paint, both in terms of material and installation costs. Paint is a more affordable option for homeowners who are looking to refresh their walls on a budget.
In summary, wall tiles offer durability, low maintenance, and a variety of style options, while paint offers a wider range of colors and is a more affordable option. The choice between wall tiles and paint will depend on the specific needs and preferences of the homeowner.
Are wall tiles safe?
Wall tiles are generally considered safe for use in residential and commercial spaces. Here are some reasons why:
Non-Toxic: Most wall tiles are made from non-toxic materials, such as ceramic, porcelain, glass, or natural stone. These materials do not emit harmful chemicals or gases and are safe for use in indoor spaces.
Fire-Resistant: Many types of wall tiles are fire-resistant, which means they can withstand high temperatures without releasing toxic fumes or smoke. This makes them a safer option than other wall materials, such as wood or wallpaper.
Hygienic: Wall tiles are easy to clean and maintain, which makes them a hygienic option for use in bathrooms, kitchens, and other areas that are prone to moisture and bacteria growth. They are resistant to mold, mildew, and stains, which can improve indoor air quality and reduce the risk of allergies or respiratory problems.
Slip-Resistant: Some wall tiles are designed to be slip-resistant, which can prevent accidents and injuries in areas that are prone to moisture, such as bathrooms and kitchens.
Quality Standards: Wall tiles are subject to strict quality standards, which ensure that they meet safety, durability, and performance requirements. These standards vary depending on the type of tile and the manufacturer, but they generally include testing for strength, water absorption, and resistance to thermal shock and chemical damage.
In summary, wall tiles are considered a safe option for use in residential and commercial spaces. They are made from non-toxic materials, are fire-resistant, hygienic, slip-resistant, and are subject to strict quality standards. However, it is important to follow proper installation guidelines and safety precautions when handling or installing wall tiles.

Best Tile Installation Materials for High-Traffic Areas
Tiles are a fantastic flooring option, but when it comes to high-traffic areas, you need to be extra picky about the materials you use. The last thing you want is cracked tiles, loose grout, or a surface that wears out quickly. Whether it’s a bustling office lobby, a busy kitchen, or a commercial showroom, choosing the right tile installation materials makes all the difference. Let’s dive into the best options to ensure durability, longevity, and style.
Tumblr media
1. Understanding High-Traffic Areas
Before jumping into materials, let’s define what we mean by “high-traffic areas.” These are spaces where footfall is frequent and often intense. Think of places like:
Entryways and hallways
Kitchens and dining areas
Commercial spaces like restaurants and malls
Office floors and lobbies
Public restrooms
These areas experience constant pressure, dirt, moisture, and movement, making it crucial to select materials that can withstand daily wear and tear.
2. Best Tile Types for High-Traffic Areas
Not all tiles are created equal. Here are some of the best types of tiles for busy areas:
Porcelain Tiles
Porcelain is a top choice for high-traffic zones. It’s dense, water-resistant, and highly durable. Plus, it comes in various styles, including wood and stone looks, without the maintenance hassle.
Ceramic Tiles
While not as strong as porcelain, high-quality ceramic tiles with a hard glaze can work well in residential high-traffic areas like kitchens and hallways.
Natural Stone Tiles
Marble, granite, and travertine are elegant options. They need sealing but can last a lifetime when properly maintained.
Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT)
If you want a softer underfoot feel without compromising durability, LVT is a fantastic option. It mimics stone and wood while offering better shock absorption and noise reduction.
3. Essential Tile Installation Materials
Choosing the right tile is only half the battle—you also need the best installation materials to keep them in place. Here’s what you should consider:
Tile Adhesives: The glue that holds everything together.
Grouts: Fills gaps between tiles, ensuring a seamless finish.
Underlayments: Adds stability and reduces cracking.
4. Tile Adhesives: What Works Best?
Using the right adhesive is crucial for keeping tiles secure. Here are the top choices:
Thin-Set Mortar: Best for porcelain and ceramic tiles, offering excellent bond strength and moisture resistance.
Epoxy-Based Adhesives: Ideal for commercial spaces where extreme durability is required.
Mastic Adhesive: Works for walls and low-moisture areas, but not suitable for floors.
5. Choosing the Right Grout
Grout does more than fill gaps—it protects tiles from shifting and cracking. Here’s what you need to know:
Sanded Grout: Best for larger grout lines (over 1/8 inch), providing durability and resistance to cracking.
Unsanded Grout: Suitable for narrow joints (under 1/8 inch), commonly used for walls and delicate tiles.
Epoxy Grout: The strongest option, stain-resistant and perfect for commercial settings.
6. Underlayment and Its Importance
Underlayment might not be visible, but it plays a huge role in the longevity of your tiles. Options include:
Cement Backer Board: Adds extra strength and water resistance.
Uncoupling Membrane: Prevents cracking by allowing minor movement in the subfloor.
Foam Underlay: Ideal for LVT, providing extra cushioning and soundproofing.
7. Additional Tips for Long-Lasting Tile Installation
To maximize the lifespan of your tiled surfaces, follow these expert tips:
Seal Your Tiles and Grout: This prevents moisture damage and stains.
Use the Right Cleaning Products: Harsh chemicals can erode grout and dull tile finishes.
Regular Inspections: Fix loose tiles or grout as soon as issues arise.
Choose Slip-Resistant Tiles: Especially for wet areas like bathrooms and entryways.
Conclusion
When it comes to high-traffic areas, durability is key. Choosing the right tiles is important, but pairing them with the best tiles installation Nj materials ensures they last for years. From selecting the right adhesive to investing in quality grout and underlayment, every detail matters. So, whether you're remodeling your home or working on a commercial project, make sure you use top-notch materials to keep your floors looking flawless and strong for the long haul!

Bilgola Plateau by Rama Architects in Garigal Country, Australia.
Perched above an ancient forest of thousand-year-old Angophora trees with views over Pittwater, Plateau Project embodies the natural tones and materiality of the land that surrounds it. A simple internal palate of microcement and raw concrete draw warmth and reflect light. A wandering wall greets you as you enter, leading quietly around a deep curve to a dramatic reveal of soaring ceilings and exposed rafters. A raked ceiling delivers expansive views over bushland out to the water.
The house plays with shape and volume. Curves and lines, confinement and expanse collaborate to create a bold statement of opposites whilst creating cohesion and fluidity at the same time.
A winding cavernous hallway playfully hides what lies beyond, curving around and delivering you to a fortress-like turret with brick and masonry walls, smooth with soft light and a sculptural steel hand-rail leading you upstairs to the sleeping quarters.
Residing in a BAL-FZ flame zone, the home has been built with non-combustible materials, fit with bushfire shutters as well as steel frames and windows. Bespoke aerated concrete features throughout the design from bathroom tiling to a custom cast dining table which seats 10. Vein-cut travertine benchtops rest atop scalloped concrete detailing in the kitchen and breakfast nook.
Plateau Project is punctuated by materials and angles creating moments – solid and soft, bold and light.

7 Exquisite White Italian Marble Trends for Timeless Interiors
White Italian marble has long been a symbol of luxury, elegance, and sophistication. Whether you're designing a modern home, a lavish hotel, or a high-end commercial space, white Italian marble is a timeless choice. At Shree Ram Stones, we offer an exquisite range of white Italian marble, including Italian Statuario Marble, Carrara White Marble, Michelangelo Marble, Volakas Marble, Italian White Marble, Lasa White Marble, and Pure White Marble.
In this blog, we will explore the top seven white Italian marble trends that can transform your interiors and create a stunning ambiance.
1. Bookmatched Marble Walls for a Seamless Look
Bookmatching is a trending design that creates a mirror effect by placing two adjacent marble slabs side by side. This technique enhances the natural veining patterns of Italian Statuario Marble or Michelangelo Marble, creating an artistic masterpiece on walls, floors, or countertops. It’s a perfect choice for luxury hotels, high-end residences, and premium office spaces.
2. Minimalist White Marble Kitchens
The trend of all-white, sleek, and minimalist kitchens is at its peak. Carrara White Marble is a top pick for kitchen countertops, islands, and backsplashes. Its soft gray veining against a pristine white background adds subtle beauty and sophistication. When paired with modern cabinetry, this marble enhances the overall aesthetic and value of the space.
3. White Marble Bathrooms with Spa-like Vibes
For a luxurious and calming bathroom experience, Volakas Marble is an excellent choice. Its smooth surface and delicate veins create a spa-like ambiance. Designers often use white Italian marble for shower walls, vanity tops, and flooring to achieve a serene and opulent look.
4. Statement Marble Flooring for Grandeur
Large-format white marble tiles are in trend for creating seamless and elegant flooring designs. Italian White Marble is a preferred option for flooring in grand entryways, hotel lobbies, and luxury homes. It reflects natural light beautifully, making spaces appear brighter and more spacious.
5. Bold Accent Walls with Italian Marble
Accent walls using Lasa White Marble have become a popular trend in contemporary and classic interiors. Whether it’s a feature wall in the living room, bedroom, or office, the natural beauty of this marble adds a striking and artistic touch to interiors.
6. Pure White Marble for a Timeless Appeal
Pure White Marble is the epitome of elegance and purity. It is often used for statement staircases, designer furniture, and sculptures. Its flawless white background provides a sense of tranquility, making it a preferred choice for modern luxury spaces.
Tumblr media
7. Combining White Marble with Other Natural Stones
A new trend in interior design is combining white Italian marble with other natural stones like Italian Botticino Marble, Italian Grey Marble, Italian Beige Marble, and Travertine Marble. What Are the Best Kitchen Tiles for Heat and Water Resistance?
When designing or renovating a kitchen, selecting the right tiles is crucial for both functionality and aesthetics. The kitchen is often exposed to extreme conditions such as high heat and frequent water spills, which makes choosing heat- and water-resistant tiles essential.
The best subway tiles kitchenoffers durability, easy maintenance, and protection against these factors, ensuring your space remains stylish and functional for years to come. In this blog, we’ll explore the top tile options for heat and water resistance, focusing on those that provide the best performance under kitchen conditions.
Porcelain Tiles: The All-Rounder
Heat and Water Resistance: Porcelain tiles are one of the best choices for kitchen environments due to their exceptional durability and resistance to both heat and water. Made from a dense type of clay and fired at high temperatures, these tiles are non-porous, which makes them ideal for kitchens.
Porcelain can handle the heat from stoves, ovens, and hot pans without cracking or discolouration. Its water resistance means spills, splashes, and even pooling water won’t seep into the material, protecting both your floor and walls.
Style Options: Porcelain tiles are available in a wide variety of finishes, including wood, stone, or even metallic looks. This makes them versatile for any kitchen design, from modern to rustic. For extra slip resistance, especially in high-traffic kitchens, consider opting for textured or matte-finish porcelain tiles.
Ceramic Tiles: Affordable and Functional
Heat and Water Resistance: Ceramic tiles are another excellent option for kitchens, offering a balance between cost and durability. While they are not as dense as porcelain, ceramic tiles are still quite heat resistant, making them suitable for areas near stoves or backsplash tiles.
Their water resistance is slightly lower compared to porcelain, but they still perform well against moisture when properly glazed. Ceramic tiles are easy to clean, which is a major benefit in any kitchen.
Style Options: Ceramic tiles wholesale in Melbourne are highly customisable and available in a variety of colours, patterns, and textures. From classic white subway tiles to colourful mosaic options, you can find ceramic tiles that suit any kitchen style. However, if you’re placing them in high-moisture areas, like near sinks or under dishwashers, make sure they are properly sealed to avoid water damage.
Natural Stone Tiles: Beauty with Caution
Heat and Water Resistance: Natural stone tiles, such as granite, marble, slate, and travertine, offer a timeless and luxurious look for any kitchen. In terms of heat resistance, natural stone performs well, handling hot pots and pans without an issue. However, when it comes to water resistance, natural stone can be more problematic. Many stone tiles are porous, meaning they can absorb water if not properly sealed. Regular sealing is required to maintain their resistance to both moisture and staining.
Style Options: Natural stone tiles bring an earthy, elegant look to kitchens. The unique veining in marble or the textured surfaces of slate provide unmatched character. Keep in mind that stone tiles require more maintenance than other materials, but the aesthetic payoff can be worth it for homeowners looking for high-end appeal.
Tumblr media
Glass Tiles: The Contemporary Choice
Heat and Water Resistance: Glass tiles are incredibly resistant to both heat and water, making them an excellent choice for kitchen backsplashes and accent areas. Since glass is non-porous, it won’t absorb water, and it’s highly resistant to staining, making it ideal for use near sinks and stovetops. Glass can also handle high temperatures without warping or cracking, providing a sleek, modern look.
Style Options: Glass tiles are often used in backsplashes because of their reflective properties, which can make a kitchen appear brighter and more spacious. They come in a wide range of colours, shapes, and finishes, making it easy to create intricate patterns or minimalist designs. However, glass tiles can be slippery when used on floors, so they’re best reserved for walls.
Subway Tiles: Classic and Reliable
Heat and Water Resistance: Subway tiles, traditionally made from ceramic, are a popular choice for kitchen backsplashes due to their excellent heat and water resistance. While they are typically used on walls rather than floors, their water resistance makes them perfect for areas around sinks or stoves where splashes are common. Since most subway tiles are glazed, they are easy to clean and maintain, offering protection against moisture.
Style Options: Known for their clean, minimalist design, subway tiles kitchen bring a classic, timeless look to any kitchen. They are typically rectangular in shape and are often arranged in a brick-like pattern. While white is the most common colour, subway tiles are available in a range of shades and finishes, allowing homeowners to match them with modern or vintage kitchen styles.
Quarry Tiles: A Durable Option
Heat and Water Resistance: Quarry tiles wholesale Melbourne are made from unglazed natural clay and are fired at high temperatures, giving them excellent heat resistance. These tiles are dense, hard, and durable, making them ideal for kitchen floors. Although quarry tiles are not completely impervious to water, they have a low absorption rate, making them more resistant to moisture compared to other natural materials. However, they still need to be sealed to prevent staining.
Style Options: Quarry tiles are often associated with more rustic or traditional kitchen designs, thanks to their natural earthy tones. They have a rough texture, which provides slip resistance, making them ideal for high-traffic kitchens. Their warm, reddish-brown colour adds character and depth to any kitchen setting.
Conclusion
When choosing the best kitchen tiles for heat and water resistance, it’s important to consider both the practical needs and the overall design of your space. Porcelain and ceramic tiles offer an unbeatable combination of durability, affordability, and design versatility, making them top choices for most kitchens.
Natural stone subway tiles kitchen add luxury but require more maintenance, while glass tiles bring a modern touch to backsplashes. Subway tiles remain a timeless classic, and quarry tiles provide a rustic yet functional option. By carefully selecting the right material, you can create a kitchen that is both stylish and built to last.
