Nairobi, the wilderness city
Tumblr media
Nairobi is the capital and a metropolitan city of Kenya. The city of cold water as its name means in a Maasai language, Nairobi is a leading business herb in the East Africa region. Its vibrant modern culture and semi-tropical climate with sunny days and cool evenings is pleasant to its local inhabitants and people from different walk of lives.
The Nairobians (people from Nairobi) come from different regions of the country with different cultural backgrounds and speaking different dialects. However, you cannot easily notice the difference among them since they all blend into the modern ‘Nai Swag’ and united by Sheng, a slang (mix of Swahili, English and local dialects). There is quiet a huge number of expatriates who call this city a home as well.
It is the main administrative city of Kenya with all the significant government offices located within and easily accessible from the town centre. You can take a taxi or do it the local way by catching a ‘Matatu’ (local bus) popularly known as city hoppers and hop your way in and out of town. Many international organizations such as United Nations have their African headquarters based there.
Tumblr media
However what is more stunning is its coexistence with the nature because Nairobi is the only developed city with a national park next to it. Perhaps this is due to the Kenyans culture of living in harmony with nature.
Nairobi National Park is located just outside the capital city. In less than 30 minutes from the city center you can enjoy unforgettable safari experience with abundant wildlife which can be viewed against a backdrop of skyscrapers and airliners landing. The park is home to the world's densest concentration of black rhinoceros (with over 50) and there is also other animals. Nairobi National park is the only park on earth that borders a city.

Kenya’s UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Kenya is a world renowned tourist destination for its rich culture, nature and undoubtedly beautiful landscape. These combinations qualities makes it undisputable destination in Africa offering world class safari experience, amazing beach holidays and unique center for research development.
However, Kenya has a lot more to offer to its visitors. This magical country is proudly to be a home to of six world heritage sites uniquely identified by the United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). These sites include Mount Kenya National Park, Lake Turkana National Parks, The Great Lakes system, Lamu Old Town, Fort Jesus and Kaya Mijikenda Sacred forests.
Mount Kenya National Park
Listed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1997, Mt. Kenya is Africa’s second highest peak with an awe-inspiring sight with its rugged snow-capped peaks. Standing 5199 meters above sea level, it is surrounded by dense forests. It has 3 peaks, trekkers can climb until the Lenanan point between 3 and 5 days.

The Lake Turkana National Parks
Also referred to as the ‘Cradle of Mankind’ it is the largest desert lake in the world listed by UNESCO in 1997 as well. The lake has the longest histories on earth with recent fossils findings at Koobi Fora archeological site.
Lake Turkana is the most remote Kenya’s destination and far from modern civilization. A visit to this place is like to taking a trip to the past.
  The Great Lakes System
Kenya’s lake system include Lake Nakuru, Naivasha and Elementaita inscribed into the UNESCO world heritage list in 2001. With high population of wildlife, these lakes are popular safari destination with Lake Nakuru classed as a premium park in Kenya hosting endangered species such as the black and white rhinos.

Fortified villages formed within these forests were abandoned in the 1940s and are now preserved as sacred sites for ancestral link for the Mijikenda and places for rituals offerings.
Tumblr media
  Fort Jesus
Listed in UNESCO world heritage list in 2001Fort Jesus was built by the Portuguese in the 16 century (1593-1596) to the designs of Giovanni Battista Cairati in order to protect the port of Mombasa.

Shimba hills cliff, Kenya - spot of the week!
Tumblr media
This wonderful spot located only about an hour drive from the famous Diani beach. Stretching out into the savanna as you move further interior from the palm-fringed fine white sandy beach, Shimba hills as the name suggests, is a hilly zone covered by an extensive coastal forest also known as Shimba hills ‘The Sable Antelope Paradise,’ a home of the endangered Sable antelopes.
Tumblr media
This beautiful ecosystem forms part of the Shimba hills national reserve hosting a high population of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, leopards, antelopes, endangered black and white colobus monkeys, civet cats, water bucks, birds such as the Ostrich eagles and African hawk, reptiles and many more. The reserve is managed by Kenya wildlife Services in collaboration with the local surrounding communities.
Accessible from Kwale town by car, motorbike, bike or walking, the cliff provides a stunning view of the extensive jungle with Mkurumuji River meandering its way through from the Kenya highlands into the Indian Ocean.  Hundreds of tiny baobab trees (as they appear from the cliff) contrast the beautiful green landscape below and with a good eye-sight you can spot a herd of elephants roaming around in the savanna.
Not yet known to many, mainly locals are aware of this little wonder and go there at sun set to enjoy its tranquility and magnificent view. On a clear sunny day, a couple of hills and mountains are visible from far west arguably including Mount Kilimanjaro. At dusk the beautiful stars covers extensively with star shootings occasionally.
If you are living or travel in Kenya, MsafiriKenya suggests you pay a visit this place for an unforgettable experience. You can easily stop by the cliff after a day safari at Shimba hills national reserve. There is also several local community ecotourism projects that propose environmental friendly activities.

The greatest show on earth
Tumblr media
The great wildebeest migration is the most magnificent movement of animals happening in the world. Over 2 million animals mainly the wildebeest migrate from Tanzania’s Serengeti national park to Maasai Mara in Kenya in search of green pasture and water. This breathtaking phenomena occurs during the month of July and October every year.
The movement is also known as one of the wonders of the world, is a must see life time experience. The migration is endless as the wildebeest wander around the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem in life-to-death search of their food and water.
From the western Serengeti thewildebeest herds head to the north, following the rains into the Maasai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya. On their trek the wildebeests’ path is cut several times by rivers: in the Serengeti by the Mbalangeti and the Grumeti, and in Kenya by the Mara river.
In Kenya you will witness the most incredible experience at the Mara national park. The wildebeest arrive at the Mara River in their tens of thousands, and gather waiting to cross.
For days their numbers can be building up and anticipation grows but many times, they turn and wander away from the water’s edge. Eventually the wildebeest will choose a crossing point, cannot be predicted as it varies from year to year.
Usually the chosen point will be a fairly placid stretch of water without too much predator-concealing vegetation in the far side, although occasionally they will choose seemingly suicidal places and drown in their hundreds. Perhaps, once again, this is because crossing places are genetically imprinted in the minds of the animals.
On the grasslands of the Maasai Mara, the wildebeests pass several months feeding and fattening once more, taking advantage of the scattered distribution of green pastures and isolated rainstorms.
