The former head of the Metropolitan police intelligence unit in Washington DC has been found guilty of tipping off Enrique Tarrio – the imprisoned, one-time leader of the Proud Boys – that a warrant was out for his arrest before the January 6 Capitol attack in 2021. Shane Lamond has been charged with tipping off Tarrio, who at the time of the Capitol attack was wanted for the burning of a Black Lives Matter banner. Tarrio is currently serving 22 years after being convicted of seditious conspiracy in connection with the Capitol riot. Tarrio was arrested when he arrived in Washington on a flight from Miami two days before the attack. During Tarrio’s testimony to the court, he said he wanted to travel to Washington before the January 6 attack to “get this over with” – and to set up a “circus tent” to use his arrest as a “marketing ploy”. Lamond was found guilty on Monday of four counts, including one of obstruction of justice and three of lying to investigators. The verdict followed a bench trial that featured testimony from Tarrio, who maintained he had been contemporaneously lying to his fellow Proud Boys about receiving information from a source in the Washington DC police department. A federal grand jury charged Lamond in May 2023 with obstructing the investigation into the burning of the banner a month before the Capitol attack – when the Proud Boys were roaming the streets of Washington DC for a pro-Donald Trump event. During Lamond’s trial, prosecutors said that the former police officer acted as a “double agent” for the Proud Boys. Tarrio and Lamond communicated “at least 500 times using cloud-based messaging services”, the indictment alleged, including 101 messages on Telegram that were set to disappear. Lamond’s defense said that their client’s communications with Tarrio were a part of his job. But prosecutors showed that Lamond wrote of his affinity for the Proud Boys. In those communications, Lamond said he supported the group and did not “want to see your group’s name or reputation dragged through the mud”, an indictment alleged.

According to the indictment, Lamond had also advised Tarrio that he tried to convince another unit within the Washington DC police department that the Proud Boys were not racist. “I told them you are made up a lot of Latinos and blacks so not a racist thing. If anything I said it’s political but then I drew attention to the Trump and American flags that were taken by Antifa and set on fire,” Lamond wrote in an alleged message contained in the indictment. “I said all those would have to be classified as hate crimes too.”

It was easy enough. Two minutes in the car, three key card swipes of Alfred’s ID cards Matthew had lifted from his apartment, four steps past the secretary’s back as she left for the night. Five more as he entered a shitty little office in some shitty little government building.

“Good evening,” Arthur, in the very image of proper manners, greeted the man sitting behind the desk, hand extended to introduce himself. "Arthur Kirkland, I believe I may have some business with you."

“They said you might come.” Corcoran muttered. He didn't shake Arthur's hand. His son’s handler was a paunch-laden man with a red face and puffy hands named Cocorcan in his forties. He was only somewhat familiar to Arthur, as Alfred had been on his best behaviour lately, studying hard to fling himself off the planet again. No one serious had been given the post for some time.

"Did they do? I am glad to hear it! Hopefully, that will help us smooth this along!"

“What… would that be?”

“I haven’t heard from my son, your chief responsibility, in some time.” Arthur had not sat. He ran a finger through some dust on a shelf holding official-looking framed certificates and made a face—Corcoran sweat. Arthur squashed his pleasure. “Now, why would that be?”

“I’m sure service is spotty.” Corcoran tried. And failed.

“Is that so?” Arthur countered. “Are you quite sure about that?”

"It's a space station. How reliable could cell service be?” Corcoran gave a pathetic shrug.

“You may want to consider your answer. You have one more opportunity before I hand things over to my associate, if only because Alfred is ever so fond of the inept fools put in charge of him. Have you anything to say about that?”

“Like I said—”

He didn’t get another word out before the blood had drained from his face. Matthew appeared at Arthur’s shoulder, and Corcoran looked like he’d seen a ghost.

“You’re dead, they dragged you out of Hudson Bay!” Oh, this was going to be fun.

"Is that right?" Arthur glanced at Matthew. Honestly, it was more difficult to keep him alive now that he was grown than when he was small. Well, grown. Overgrown. He took in the lad's height. They would have to talk about that. And the Matthew did look like he’d been dead for a day or two, but that was par for the course for his boy when stressed. Somewhere between refusing to cry and appearing at Arthur's, his face had transformed into the one Arthur had rarely seen in recent years. His son had not been a creature of the shadows for some time, and the sharp points of his face were predatory. “Well, that would explain how uncontrollable he’s become! Made quite a mess. Come back wrong, did you lad?”

Corcoran didn’t respond. He put his hand to his waist, where there would be a service pistol. Matthew was faster, his fingers finding the attaching small joints of Corcoran’s dominant hand and pinching so tightly that Corcoran’s grip jumped open. One smooth motion saw the man’s face smushed against the wall, one arm flailing, the other bent at an extreme angle behind his head. Even the smallest resistance would see the shoulder pop out at a sickening angle. It was Matthew’s favourite grapple. The maneuver didn’t require strength, and he efficiently used his stronger left hand and great height. Smart lad.

Matthew easily disarmed him, kicking the pistol across the floor, then an out-of-date mobile phone. Arthur pocketed both. And then, looking happier than he had in days, Matthew put the tip of his old paratrooper knife against the man’s jugular.

"You can start talking, or I can start cutting." The knife's point rested against the man's skin, and Matt stared hard into his eyes as the Corcoran dragged his head to stare out at Matthew. Matthew hadn’t slept, which would be evident to anyone, but his son was unstable. Arthur knew better. Matthew looked unpredictable, unhinged and half mad, precisely what the situation needed. What had been frustrated tears were now red-rimmed eyes on a sharp, bone-pale face. He looked out of control, breathing hard, his eyes narrow, desperate and… oddly gleeful. “You choose.”

"I'm afraid the lad is rather handy with his whittling." Arthur added as if noting the weather was particularly pleasant that day. He pulled the points of his waistcoat down and leaned over. “Won medals when he was a lad. I suggest doing as asked.”

“I can’t!”

“Loyal to your country, are you?” Matthew asked, his voice hardly audible. Soft and insane. “Might want to give that loyalty a second thought."

Shot through with pride, Arthur suppressed a smile and clicked his tongue in a scolding way, and shook his head, like Matthew was being petulant about naptime. “Just answer a few questions, and this will all go away.”

“You can't do this! It’ll be right to the electric chair for both of you.”

“Just because you kill me doesn’t mean I’ll die.” Matthew’s pressure on the blade increased; just enough that blood trickled down Corcoran’s jugular. The man trembled. Matthew put his face closer to Corcoran’s jaw. “You did something to my brother. My brother. His laughter was the first thing I knew of humanity. And you’re going to tell me where the fuck he is or you will never hear another laugh. Neither will your wife or your children. Anyone who ever knew you will know nothing but the silence I have endured. There will be nothing but winter where you once knew joy.”

Jesus Christ. Arthur blinked, once and then twice. Well, the boys had always been fond of each other.

Corcoran whimpered. Arthur rolled his shoulders and sighed, disappointed in him.

"We wouldn't want you to make a poor choice, would we? My boy is wonderfully creative.”

Corcoran broke.

Davante Richardson has been missing since July 2020. The then-28-year-old man lived in Washington, D.C. at the time of his disappearance, but he vanished after reportedly traveling to Wyoming. Davante was last seen by his mother at the residence they shared on Mississippi Avenue Southeast in D.C. on July 20th, 2020. Family remembers reported him missing two days later. 

Before vanishing, Davante told others that he was going to Wyoming to "help his friend Kanye". He was referring to rapper Kanye West, who owns a ranch in Greybull, Wyoming. Davante does not personally know West; however, his final outgoing text message to a friend stated that he was "going to see his buddy Kanye."

On July 27th, 2020, Davante's vehicle was found abandoned on a dirt road in Big Horn County Wyoming, located several miles east of West's ranch. Davante's keys, two cell phones, and laptop were found inside the car. According to reports, the car was “clean and very well kept, without presenting any evidence of a sustained road trip." The vehicle was also not found to have any mechanical issues. 

Authorities interviewed West's security team at the Wyoming ranch. The security team did not report having any encounters with anyone matching Davante's description. It is not believed that Davante ever actually made it to West's ranch. 

Throughout the investigation, it was revealed that Davante "was believed to have been sighted at a gas station 150 miles south from where his vehicle was located on July 26, 2020." A witness at the gas station reportedly saw a man matching Davante's description "get into the passenger side of his Jeep while a white female got into the driver's seat." The vehicle was found abandoned the following day. 

The Big Horn County Sheriff's office has searched the area where Davante's vehicle was found with K9s, drones, and helicopters, but no clues have been found. The sheriff's office is collaborating with both the DC Metropolitan Police and the FBI in the search for Davante. Unfortunately, he still remains missing today.

hi kilo! nice ask day ask for you (so very curious about your job I'm so sorry). what's your favourite destination to fly to for work AND what's your favourite non-work travel destination?

Hi @welcometololaland thank you for the nice ass(k)! This is a great question and I have to admit I had to do some thinking about it! But no need to be sorry about your curiosity! I love answering questions about it so whenever the urge strikes you absolutely fire away! I've been to so many places for work and a lot of the cool ones vary whether the layover is good (especially if its like a day or two) or the approach to the airport is super cool or even if the food in the airport terminal is bangin' while I wait. I think my favorite layover is probably either Kahului, Hawaii on the island of Maui or Kona, Hawaii on the island of Hawai'i. Obviously because the weather is so nice and they usually have us on the ground for at least two or three days so I get to go to the beach and relax. Flights to Hawaii are usually hard to get (they usually go to more senior crews) but whenever they come across my schedule I try to bid for those. I think an honorable mention is definitely Chicago O'Hare. Our airline is based in Chicago and we have a massive presence there so I'm flying there quite often. On a nice day, the approach into the airport from over Lake Michigan gives absolutely gorgeous views of downtown Chicago. I've mentioned this in a previous post somewhere, but I am originally from Chicago and grew up there. My family still lives there. But our house was right under the approach path at O'Hare and when I was little, I would always look up at the planes landing and get super excited. Now, I am literally living that dream job that little Kilo always wanted. And there are times when I fly DIRECTLY over where the house I grew up in is and imagine little Kilo getting so excited thinking about that. I'll ask my dad, but sometimes he goes out and tracks my flights and tries to get a picture of me landing or taking off from nearby and share a pic from one of those. Always super cool to see!

There are another couple of really cool honorable mentions I have to say: Mexico City has a really tough approach over the city, San Diego is similarly right in the middle of downtown, New York LaGuardia, Washington DC Reagan National (pro-tip if you're flying into DCA sit on the right side of the plane and you might get a beautiful view of the city and the National Mall when you're landing), Sint Maarten in the Carribbean is cool the approach is right over the beach (I've only been there a couple of times but its always so cool). My favorite non-work destination is so difficult. I think its gotta be either Prague, Czech Republic (I went there with my dad on vacation a few years ago and I fell in LOVE with it, or Alaska (I was there on vacation earlier this summer and it was so beautiful). Although I expect that answer to change relatively quickly. Side note: my airline has new flights this Summer from Newark to the Portuguese Azores islands out in the middle of the Atlantic (approx. 2,600 miles east of New York, and about 1,000 miles west of Portugal). They operate the Boeing 737 MAX on the route (which is one of the types I fly) and its only a summer seasonal route. My goal for next year is to try and crew that flight so I can visit! It looks so pretty and it's very high up on my list to travel!

The snipers were John Allen Muhammad (age 41 at the time) and Lee Boyd Malvo (age 17 at the time), who traveled in a blue 1990 Chevrolet Caprice sedan. Their crime spree, which began in February 2002, included murders and robberies in several states, which resulted in seven deaths and seven injuries. the dc sniper attacks were insane. most sources focus on their "fast spree" in DC, but before that they shot 9 other people! 6 killed! and it was all over the country, which is why they werent caught before they did the whole DC thing. some of them were close range too. outside of the DC area there were shootings in at least tacoma, washington; tucson, atlanta, montgomery, alabama; baton rouge, hammond, louisiana, possibly more, i cant find a clear list anywhere and the wikipedia article alludes to four shootings before september but after tacoma and tucson, but atlana montgomery baton rouge and hammond were all after they did a couple shootings in the DC area, but before the spree. anyway isnt this insane! 10+ shootings, over the course of about 8 months, starting in february and ending in the october spree. isnt that bizarre! malvo kept shooting people in the neck and not succesfully killing them

the motive isnt super clear, but here's what malvo testified:

Part of his testimony concerned Muhammad's complete multiphase plan. His plan consisted of three phases in the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore metro areas. Phase one consisted of meticulously planning, mapping, and practicing their locations around the D.C. area. This way, after each shooting they would be able to quickly leave the area on a predetermined path and move on to the next location. Muhammad's goal in Phase One was to kill six white people a day for 30 days. Malvo went on to describe how Phase One did not go as planned due to heavy traffic and the lack of a clear shot or getaway at locations.

Phase Two was meant to take place in Baltimore, Maryland. Malvo described how this phase was close to being implemented, but was not carried out. Phase Two was intended to begin by killing a pregnant woman by shooting her in the stomach. The next step would have been to shoot and kill a Baltimore police officer. Then, at the officer's funeral, they planned to detonate several improvised explosive devices complete with shrapnel. These explosives were intended to kill a large number of police, since many police would attend another officer's funeral.

The last phase was to take place during or shortly after Phase Two, which was to extort several million dollars from the United States government. This money would be used to finance a larger plan, to travel north to Canada. Along the way, they would stop in YMCAs and orphanages recruiting other impressionable young black boys with no parents or guidance. Muhammad thought he could act as their father figure as he did with Malvo.

Once he recruited a large number of young black boys and made his way up to Canada, he would begin their training. Malvo described how John Muhammad intended to train boys in weapons and stealth as he had been taught. Finally, after their training was complete, John Allen Muhammad would send them out across the United States to carry out mass shootings in many other cities, just as he had done in Washington and Baltimore. These attacks would be coordinated and be intended to send the country into chaos that had already been built up after 9/11.

im suspicious of all of this, because this was part of the defense's case that malvo was basically not guilty because he was under muhammad's control, which incentivizes a certain narrative. although malvo was definitely under muhammad's control, he sort of raised him.

the wikipedia articles for the perpetrators are also worth a read. very bizarre story, malvo grew up in jamaica, bounced around between caregivers, and ended up in muhammad's care (muhammad was american, visiting) and illegally immigrated!

Day in the life: Classes in Prague 2/15/2023

Normally, I would love to share my travels through this blog but today I wanted to share a day in my life with classes.

There are some academic differences when coming to Europe, the main thing for me was that classes meet once a week but for three hours (with one 15 minute break). When applying for classes I decided the best thing for me and what I wanted to get out of studying abroad was to try to fit my classes so that I could have extended weekends to travel. Thus, I decided to take three classes on Tuesday and one on Thursday.

Once I got here though, I realized even though I love having one day dedicated to classes, it is a really tough day to get through. 

My first alarm is set for 6:45am, then I snooze until my second alarm comes at 7am. Today my first class is at Anglo American University (AAU) at 815 am. I get ready, do my ablutions, and make a cup of coffee to bring with me. I am out of the apartment by 740 am. The public transport is amazing with options of both a tram and a metro. To get to AAU, it is a 10 minute walk to the green line of the metro, then ride 4 stops, then you are right there on campus! The crazy thing about the metro here though is how deep the metro actually is, the escalator going down is super freaky. Honestly, the closest comparison in the USA is the Washington DC Metro, but Prague is even deeper. 

Once I got to AAU, I had my first class of the day, European History II. The class is an introductory class that has the exact credit translation for my Non-US History requirement which is perfect, except the only time the class is offered is 8:15am. Additionally, I am the only student that is on a semester exchange in this class, the rest are full-time AAU students from all over the world. I ended up sitting next to a girl from Israel! The class was a lecture for the first hour, where we discussed the Renaissance and then we took a 15 minute break, where students could grab a coffee at the cafe below, which was exactly what I did (only way to survive a 10 hour class day). The discussion is super interesting as we all since all students got to express their opinions. 

The class got out early so I had an hour to get to my class, which was my Food and Brewing Class at the CEA Center. The walk is so beautiful between my two classes, with my passing over the bridge and walking through Old Town Square. 

Since I had extra time, I decided to sit on a bench in Old Town Square and journal for a little bit. I am trying to write daily in my journal to my boyfriend, Jack, to make it seem that the 4,810 miles between us is not as far as it actually is.  

My next two classes are with Ashley which is awesome. Both of my CEA classes are not general education classes, rather they are both culturally based classes. Today in our Food and Brewing class we went to a local Czech restaurant to try the food and drink some beer (yes, I said that right, I drank beer in class). 

I got the Pork Schnitzel and a Pilsner, which is a Czech beer. It was interesting to see the cultural differences between both cultures. Coasters need to be already set out by the customer for drinks and tipping culture is not a thing at all here, at most 10% tip for exceptional service. The food was absolutely delicious. To compare, the schnitzel was like a chicken fried steak and it was served with mashed potatoes and pickles (my favorite). 

After my Food and Brewing Class, I had my Golden City of Prague class, which is very interesting because it is an architecture and art history class that is specific with Prague and the Czech Culture. Honestly, I learned so much in this class. We go to the classroom for an hour and then go on a field trip for the rest of the class to different places in Prague that we discussed in class.

 Today, we toured Prague Castle, specifically the Cathedral.

The whole complex was insane. Prague was considered the center of Europe during part of the Medieval Era and seeing different mosaics on the cathedral from that era was so insane to me. 

The other thing that interested me was how little crowds there were. It is just so insane how a city like Prague has not gotten as much international attention when it comes to tourism and history. It is one of those cities where everyday there is something new to learn and discover. Honestly, Prague is the exact picture of a European city that I have always thought growing up and not only am I fortunate to be able to experience this city and live here for 4 months, I am fortunate to be able to learn and gain a different perspective on the educational aspect as well. 

This blog post took a detour through a “love letter to Prague” but after the Prague Castle, it was time to take the tram back to my apartment in Prague 2, around a 15 minute ride and I got home around 6pm. Even though the day was long, it speeds by every week because of all the new, interesting information that I am learning in all of my classes. 

I am loving it here, studying and indulging in all aspects of the city. It is amazing. 

Also, I know I am a little bit late with this blog post but don’t worry… There is one based on my travels coming by the end of the weekend! I went to two different countries the past two weekends and can’t wait to share those adventures with you all!

A dream

Want to get this down because it was very pleasant. though not initially.

So the first thing I remember was standing in a terminal. I had just arrived on a plane and needed to make a transfer. The airport was a mess, there was people everywhere and no directory signs. I wandered for a bit not knowing what I was looking for. My ticket was like gibberish, I didn't know what my airline was, or my destination, or what time my flight would depart, but I felt like I only had an hour. And the only thing I could read was that my name was not on the ticket, it was my younger brother instead. I remember wondering if there was a kiosk I could go to change that, before deciding it didn't matter because I was already inside security.

Finally, after finding myself in another dead end, I asked another passenger standing nearby if she could help. She had black hair and was shorter than me, around my age, in a suit. Initially I had asked because i thought she worked at the airport, but I realized after that she was a business traveler. She looked at my ticket and said sure, telling me to follow her. we went off, weaving through the crowd and corridors. It became evident that she was no more as an authority as me. we would pause at intersections like she was getting her bearings, and once or twice we had to backtrack. The people lining the halls seemed to know her, and made ribbing comments as we passed by.

At one of these pauses, it occurred to me that I should tip her in thanks when we get where we are going. I had some cash in my pocket and started counting it out as we set off again. It was also around this time that I was able to read my ticket, and discovered I was flying emirates. Finally we entered a large room with stadium-like tiers that faced big glass windows. we had been walking in cramped halls like in a school. Pedestrian traffic was moving left and right, but there were no gates nearby. she led me straight down the tiers to a bar by the window. outside there was a lake nestled between us and the far terminal. planes took off from the unseen runway behind that. The tower was off to my right, at the far end of the lake and the terminal I was in.

I asked her where my gate was. I was a bit annoyed that she had not led me there. I think she misheard me, because she pointed out the tower outside. Them she admitted, "I don't know where your gate is, but why don't we have a drink and let the staff guide us there once we have had a few!" I thought this was very funny logic. I also decided that paying for her drink would be a good way to repay her for the guidance she gave me. The bartender and other diners knew her. I got the sense that she had been stuck in the airport the last few days, but was flying out today.

We got to talking. Learned that she was from down south, and was flying (or always wanted to visit, the dream is starting to fade) up to to Washington DC. I mentioned that I had family in the area. She asked what they do, and I clarified that my extended family is from the area, not like living there to work.

Around this time I checked my ticket again. I was not worried about time anymore, but did learn that my destination was the city of Dubónar. That's fictional, but I think my mind was blending the cities of Lisbon and Dubrovnik together with the word debonair. My destination in mind was seaside European.

We began talking about what cities are the best. I don't remember what everyone else said, but I do remember stating that there is no place for me but NYC, and that was very well received. then a bell went off and we all got ready to depart for our gate. I was just debating whether to take my shot with me, they were served in little rubber cups for that reason, when I woke up.

Feel like mentioning that I was the only guy in the bar, but this wasn't a romantic dream. I enjoyed it because it felt like I had just made a new circle of friends. Suppose that's something I lack, female friends. I have no idea where the airport or bar came from. I've only flown six times in my life and the first three were before I was 10. I'm also not a typical bargoer; I don't really like alcohol and only drink it on special occasions.

But still, this dream was very pleasant, and did hit upon one of my favorite tropes. I love when strangers are driven together by external circumstances beyond their control, and subsequently form bonds that last beyond the circumstances they were forced into. Like an extended layover in an airport. It's a more positive sibling to another trope I like, where the circumstances are traumatic, and fear is the driving factor for the bonds.

Game 23 Not Exactly Minced Weds, July 10 12:00pm EDT Washington @ Indiana

Starting: WASH: Atkins, Dolson, Hines-Allen, Richards, Vanloo (Austin hip recovery, Sykes foot injury, Samuelson hand injury) IND: Boston, Clark, Hull, Mitchell, Samuelson

1st Quarter The Mystics face the Fever coming off of a big win over New York. It's a different starting lineup than our last matchup, with Hull and the younger Samuelson in today. Stef Dolson is back from her illness, thank goodness. We get 2 offensive rebounds on the first possession and 3 good shots… that all miss. DiDi BLOCKS Clark coming in from the help side. Now Myisha goes for 3 but can't connect. Oof, Katie Lou cuts immediately and a quick pass from Clark bypasses our defense. Now Boston gets a block on Stef. Clark gets a step on JVL (via a lil shove) and she shoots the 3. JVL steps behind the Stef screen to exact her revenge from 3. Stef goes 3, too! The announcers are bringing up college stats on Stef—uh, that was ten years ago, of course her game has improved. Peaked in college players don't play 10 years in the W. Stef's D forces a travel from Boston. Earl runs ahead of the play and shoots one over Boston. Tall defenders don't shake her. Turns for the Fever are starting to rack up. JVL forces another with good backcourt D. Edwards gets a nice bucket against Boston, but then Katie Lou goes 3. Earl gets the bucket over Boston again. The Fever have almost as many turns as points… NaLyssa Smith checks in and goes straight to the hoop. Earl responds from 3. Smith runs into Hines-Allen and does the running man, whistle blows and I thought it was because she stepped out of bounds but apparently Yish fouled her. Great combo steal by Jade and Earl. An oustanding pass inside from Stef to Shatori and things are clicking. This time Earl finds Stef cutting. It's an 18-5 run for DC, then Clark goes for 3. Some defensive lapses on both sides here. Atkins shows off her footwork going solo and we end the quarter 26-17. The Fever had about 8 turns.

2nd Quarter The Mystics force a shot clock violation on the opening defensive stand. Clark takes the ball right out of Engstler's hands and then passes it back to her on the other end haha—she runs the floor and cashes in. Wheeler is left alone and takes care of business. Stef gets a gorgeous pass to cutting Jade who reverses. Now we pass around the perimeter to find JVL for 3 and Coach Sides needs to talk—10-2 run for DC. We only have 2 turnovers so far. Wheeler cuts behind the defense again and the Mystics need to make an adjustment on the help defense on Clark. Now Clark is getting into the shoving again versus JVL, but this time it's off-ball and Katie Lou comes over to reel her in. Meanwhile Stef and Boston discuss their professional differences. Boston picks up her third foul and sits with 6 minutes in the half. It's 36-23. DC passing is looking excellent. Aaliyah goes against NaLyssa and gets blocked once but recovers quick and shoots over her. Mitchell drives right through two defenders. We foul on the missed free throw rebound but with Indiana in the bonus they go right back to the line. I don't know how NaLyssa Smith made this great bucket, she did, however, double dribble leading up to it. JVL employs a visionary pass and Aaliyah handles it with aplomb. No one on the Fever seems able to stop Ariel from getting whatever. It helps that she can shoot from wherever but still. 44-32. Shatori steals and then gets tripped up and Indiana recovers the ball so Shatori has to go and steal it again. Tori Things. Now Clark steals so Shatori HAS TO DO IT BACK AGAIN this time she runs it out and scores. Jado is left alone on the perimeter and everyone just watches as she calmly hits the 3. 51-37

3rd Quarter Stef is immediately whistled for nothing. Ariel is blocked but the ball goes sort of straight up and back into her hands and she's fouled. Now a travel is called as both Earl and Yish go for the tipped rebound and collide slightly while putting their hands on the ball. The announcers are as confused as I am by the whistle. Clark gets a 3 off that turnover. Somehow JVL loses the ball and Earl grabs it on the ground and gets it back to her for a layup. Next play it's her turn to be charged a foul for nothing. Clark gives Ariel a little shove into Boston and is finally called for it, the vets will tell her not to extend her arms like that. Shove with your elbows bent like the pros, Caitlin. It's a brilliant quick play finding Earl for a pullup. Boston goes strong against Stef underneath for 2. The other way Stef is backing down Katie Lou who is saying some sorta something and she is knocked over, charge called. Stef is laughing, either at the trash talk or the call, I dunno. Why won't the camera pan to Karlie for a reaction?? Eric leaps onto the court when Clark dribbles it off her leg and so the ball doesn't cross half court in time. Chill, Eric, they called it. Clark steals and passes behind-the-back to Smith for a layup and the Mystics call timeout. 5-11 Fever run. 56-48. Stef finds Shatori cutting to the hoop out of the timeout. JVL/Stef pick and roll interrupted by Clark stealing, but JVL gets down and steals back, and Shatori finds Stef again. Stef gets an elbow to the jaw and is called for a foul. Mystics challenge. Success—it's an offensive foul, Boston's 5th. 15 minutes to go here. Atkins right away goes to the pullup out of the timeout. Stef gets a rebound on the other end, passes ahead of the play and the ball gets around back to her as she steps up to the 3 point line. There's only one thing for her to do and it's to drain it. Lead up to 17 now. Stef finally gets a rest, this game has been the most demonstrative I've seen from her this season—in a positive, fiery way, not a chippy one. Apparently the Fever have only one O board all game thus far. They look extremely dejected. Seeing it makes me proud of our team, we have been way down in points at times, and in wins this season, but we have never been out mentally. JVL for 3. Katie Lou answers. 76-55

4th Quarter Engstler almost gets a steal but fouls en route. The Fever with three quick layups to start the 4th and we call timeout as all our possessions have come up empty. Mitchell is feeling it right now and DC has back-to-back turns. 10-0 run for the Fever. Our offense is sloppy and the Fever are finally showing fight. Clark hits a 3 and the lead has ducked into singled digits. Let's not do this, Mystics. Not today. Nice rebound here by Edwards. We've chilled out a little. Hull knocks down a 3. She's been playing good defense. 3 minutes left and a 15-point lead for DC. Timeout Indiana. Clark with a 3 out of the timeout and then she interrupts a pass and grabs a steal. She grabs another one a minute later with help from Hull and the lead has dropped to 6. What do we do in this situation? Throw it away. Gotta keep things exciting in the final 2 minutes. Hull forces a jump ball. Earl gets called for a foul with Indiana in the bonus but Eric challenges. The contact was clearly initiated by Clark's shoulder, but I'm not sure Ariel was in a legal guarding position. Officials say call stands. Following the free throws it's a one-possession game with a minute remaining. Like I said, you have to keep it entertaining. Tickets these days are not cheap. Earl makes a ridiculous shot. Clark makes 2 free throws. It's Boston versus Dolson on a jump ball, the ball is tipped to Atkins and timeout called. 16.9 seconds. JVL goes to the line. She makes both for a 5-point lead. Timeout Fever. The Fever inbound and Shatori disrupts the pass, a poor shot after and securing the win! She chats up the officials with her signature smile. 89-84 final.
