I’m loving your production breakdown posts, they are so interesting and insightful.
I think you mentioned it maybe in the first ep breakdown but it was about expenses. I just thought it was interesting in ep4 when JK mentioned at the chicken place, paying in cash, and he solely has this conversation with Tae, not Jimin. Would there be an arrangement do you think? Or was that scene cut and he’d have asked Jimin too? I’ve noticed in comparison to Bv where they were usually only allowed a certain amount of money between them, with one usually being in control, or a sum for a task, in AYS, Jimin and JK have been whipping out their cards, be it their own or a company card, in Big Dicks store, in Walmart etc.
I just found it interesting
Hi anon,
The finance bits are interesting in the most boring corporate sense if that makes any sense. 😅 Trust me on this. Let's dive in:
In my opinion, it really boils down to two concerns: taxes and sponsorships. Taxes to insure the company receives every possible benefit for every dollar they spend. Sponsorships because some brands can have fussy rules about how individuals interact with their product and especially any competitor's products while they have an active agreement.
Obviously I have no actual insight onto how the finances and budget were managed for any of these specific shows and I know absolutely nothing of the intricacies of taxes in South Korea but in the US, there are many regulations when it comes to how companies can claim expenditures for tax breaks.
Every company that has had me travel for work has gone to a lot of trouble to insure that I was aware of exactly all of the requirements on my part regarding expenditures. I'm 100% sure all of the BTS members are aware of their requirements as well so I don't particularly think there's any motive other than as a cute convo for the moment between JK and V. Imo, the only reason it made it to the final cut was JKs endearing tone in his response.
Let's go through some examples though:
Receipts: in both AYS and Bon Voyage, we see the members be very specific in getting Receipts. JM and JK talk about it as they're leaving Walmart. In BV, it's all of the shenanigans with the money pouch they acquired in Malta and continued using in New Zealand. This is usually documentation required for any operation that's going to be claimed as a business expense for tax purposes.
Personal Spending: off the top of my head I can think of several clear instances where we know that the members are using their own money for purchases we see them make on the shows. In Run BTS ep.70 in Toronto, JK pays for the member's clothing purchases himself. In BV4, JM pays for the member's clothing himself a couple of times (remember the drama of his lost wallet? 😅)
Budget as Content: BV 1 & 2 mostly only include finances as part of the game-ification of the show. The members had to earn money as an allowance for the activities and determine the best ways to spend it. (I do vaguely remember some members wanting to negotiate for more when buying souvenirs? Was that just in the extra scenes? It's been so long, I've been holding off on rewatching until I'm done with my Run series).
Thankfully, the success of BTS has basically nixed the budget games. I think the last time we saw something like this were the Run episodes of a hotel staycation? But the prices were ficticious and not necessarily about real-world spending but rather determining the secret number to not exceed. (If I'm misremembering and there are more recent examples, please share!) Imo, it would just be too tone-deaf to continue portraying the members in that context. I know we all joke about them being broke millionaires, but there's a reason why celebrity game shows always make it clear that the money involved is for charity.
Anyway, back to AYS, the interesting bit to me is wondering about the inclusion of Taehyung from a budget standpoint. How was that reconciled? None of us can possibly know the answer, but it's interesting to think about. Some costs wouldn't have changed at all with one extra participant, like the house rental, or booking the climbing gym or yacht tour. But there were a few extra concessions, getting the extra mattress likely was more a logistics headache on short notice rather than an impact to the budget. And most Korean meals are served family-style so there honestly isn't a huge difference cost-wise. Except maybe the omakase. That I can imagine was noticeably more expensive with an added individual.
But really, the most expensive item per person would likely have been travel. Did someone say Tae was already in Jeju prior to filming? If he wasn't, did the show cover his flights like they would have JK, JM, and the crew? Or is the budget on these shows big enough that it was just another drop in a bucket? Also, the intent likely was for JK to zip around on the motorbike and JM to be on the scooter. I'm curious if they weren't logistically able to get another such vehicle with the short notice or if the budget/sponsorship constraint didn't allow for a third one the day. Or it could be that the scooter exists because of the 3 member count and production thought one of them could be JKs backpack. That bike has the space for it. But perhaps the difficulty to get coverage and/or converse wasn't appealing. Or maybe there just wasn't a third radio-enabled helmet prepared?
I know the various shippers are using this in their arguments. I'd like to firmly state that I am not building a case for either side here. Go do that on your own and leave me out of it. Lol.
There are so many questions and it's interesting to theorize how the finances could have impacted the development of the show. Maybe we'll get some more insight with the remaining episodes and bonus footage but I doubt it. Finances don't usually make for engaging content.
Thanks again for the ask! It's one of the points I want to discuss when I start doing my BV and ITS posts but who knows when that will be!

Trimax vol1: Longhaired Meryl Appreciation
Both Vash and Meryl grew out their hair in the 2yr timeskip since Fifth Moon (prev vol), that they'll both get haircuts before formally returning to duty. BUT! Since in-universe it's Meryl's birthday (February), and as an experienced (and silly!) ~professional~ she understands the value of taking a well-deserved vacation before she inevitably gets swept into the chaotic typhoon of her job again....so for now, here's her looking radiant with her longer hairstyle:
Bonus comparison to her typical hair length looks like this:
Additional chapter character notes of interest below the cut:
When her coworkers start gossiping and making assumptions about how horrible and dangerous her job (supervising Vash) must've been, she gently corrects them--defending Vash's name, saying "it wasn't such a terrible experience; Vash was a very different person than everyone thought he was; he was actually a very caring and honest man." Very good! She's seen much of his genuine kindness and efforts on their travels, that she won't sit idly by when others continue to misjudge him or speak ill of his character.
(Interestingly in contrast, it seems Meryl has a tolerance towards barbs and criticisms thrown at herself--remaining comparatively silent and/or suppressing it when she's the topic, but she will speak her mind on behalf of others, like Vash's reputation here.)
When her boss calls her to identify recent photos of Vash, she has tears of recognition--it's the first time (and confirmation he's alive) she's seen him after Fifth Moon! She notes his hair color has changed...
However, this time that's her boss's only use for her, as he's hired another guy in charge to intercept Vash. Meryl tries to help by offering the new guy all her reports on Vash as references, but the guy rudely insults and dismisses her! Saying her reports are uselessly no better to him than tabloids--as if she were writing Vash as another 'legendary mysterious hero'--which ah! If her previous words to her coworkers were any clue, she was probably working just as hard to clear Vash's name thru her insurance reports too. :') Lovely integrity and consistent dedication, Meryl!
She was willing to let the new guy go (while dissing a silly gesture behind his back~ again, she refrained from arguing or speaking up for herself here) and sit this one out, until she learns he's a trained military soldier...uhoh. (*cough* whom Vash also doesn't trust and won't open his door for...until the guy mentions lies he brings word from Meryl--ding!)
Although Meryl was supposed to be on vacation, she personally intervenes upon realizing this in-house 'insurance agent' is a hit-man with an unethical approach to 'risk management'--he's here to kill Vash and she does NOT agree with that! (Her non-lethal stance on dealing with targets actually aligns with Vash's values!)
The guy berates her as foolish to get so involved, while pointing a gun at her head--so brave, Meryl! She calmly remembers what her coworker said, about how "a woman can't be happy when she's always getting thrown into life-threatening situations" and thinks back to every danger she's encountered--the Nebraskas, BDN and the Bad Lads, Monev the Gale, EG the Mine...Fifth Moon, to finally focusing on...Vash's smile.
Almost like a grounding effect. 'Do it for him~' Where normally yes, she'd agree, but getting so 'foolishly' involved and thrust into countless dangerous situations becomes necessary and worth it (for Vash's smile...)
Also because, did the guy completely dismiss and underestimate her so bad, thinking she'd carelessly come here all by herself without a plan?! Hah! Cause Milly's on supportive sniper stungun duty to trash into this guy's ego; played 'em well, girls~ With this, Meryl's once again stepped in to take preventative measures against trouble to help save Vash's life, even from afar without him knowing.
Although Milly asks if they can go meet Vash, Meryl insists on keeping professional boundaries at a distance for now--so they can prioritize their self-care enjoying their much-needed vacation, as they'll meet that 'troublemaker' through work and soon get carried away by the typhoon again, all in due time~
(Back at the office, now who's going to be their most qualified replacement for that guy injured on the job? Ding ding, all along that would be Meryl!)
#trigun#trigunbookclub#manga panels#commentary#whoops didn't plan on writing that much but i felt the need for more meryl appreciation

Understanding Hair Transplant Procedures
Hair Transplant Costs UK are surgical procedures that involve moving hair follicles from one part of the body (usually the back or sides of the scalp) to areas where hair is thinning or balding. There are two main types of hair transplant procedures:
Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT):
Also known as the strip method, FUT involves removing a strip of scalp from the donor area and then dissecting it into individual follicular units for transplantation. This method can result in a linear scar at the donor site, which may be a consideration for those who prefer shorter hairstyles. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE):
In FUE, individual hair follicles are extracted directly from the donor area using a tiny punch tool and then transplanted to the recipient area. FUE is less invasive and leaves minimal scarring, making it a popular choice for many patients. Factors Influencing the Cost of Hair Transplants Several factors can influence the cost of hair transplants in the UK. Understanding these factors can help prospective patients plan and budget for their procedure:
Type of Procedure:
Generally, FUE procedures are more expensive than FUT due to the Clinic Location and Reputation:
Clinics in major cities or those with renowned surgeons may charge higher fees. Reputable clinics with high success rates and experienced surgeons often justify their higher costs with better outcomes and patient satisfaction. Surgeon's Expertise:
Surgeons with extensive experience and specialized training in hair transplantation typically charge more for their services. Patients are advised to prioritize the surgeon’s expertise and track record over cost to ensure the best results. Technology and Techniques Used:
Advanced techniques and equipment, such as robotic FUE systems, can increase the overall cost of the procedure. Innovative methods like Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) or the use of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy as an adjunct treatment may also impact costs. Additional Costs and Considerations Beyond the primary procedure costs, there are several additional expenses and considerations that prospective patients should be aware of: Travel and Accommodation:
For those traveling to a different city or country for their procedure, travel and accommodation costs can add up. It’s important to factor in these expenses, especially if multiple trips are required for consultations and follow-ups. Time Off Work:
Depending on the nature of their job, patients may need to take time off work for recovery. While some can return to work within a few days, others may need up to two weeks, impacting their income during this period. Financing Options and Insurance Hair transplants are generally considered elective cosmetic procedures and are not covered by the NHS or private health insurance. However, several financing options are available:
Payment Plans:
Many clinics offer payment plans that allow patients to spread the cost over several months or years. Interest rates and terms vary, so it’s essential to review these options carefully. Medical Loans:
Specialized medical loans are available for cosmetic procedures, providing another financing option. It’s important to compare interest rates and terms to find the best deal. Credit Cards:
Some patients choose to finance their hair transplant using credit cards, though this can be more expensive due to high-interest rates. Cost Comparison with Other Countries For those considering traveling abroad for their hair transplant, it’s worth comparing costs in different countries. Popular destinations for hair transplants include Turkey, where the procedure can be significantly cheaper than in the UK:
Turkey:
Known for its high-quality clinics and experienced surgeons, hair transplants in Turkey can cost between £1,000 and £3,500. Many clinics offer all-inclusive packages that cover accommodation, airport transfers, and post-operative care. Eastern Europe:
Countries like Hungary and Poland offer competitive prices, ranging from £1,500 to £4,000, with reputable clinics and experienced surgeons. Asia:
India and Thailand are also popular for medical tourism, with hair transplant costs ranging from £1,200 to £3,500. Conclusion The cost of hair transplants in the UK can vary widely based on several factors, including the type of procedure, the number of grafts required, the clinic's location and reputation, and the surgeon's expertise. Additionally, prospective patients should consider pre-operative and post-operative expenses, as well as potential travel and accommodation costs if opting for treatment abroad.
While cost is an important consideration, it should not be the sole factor in deciding where to undergo a hair transplant. The quality of care, the surgeon's experience, and the clinic's reputation are crucial to achieving the desired results and ensuring a safe and successful procedure. By thoroughly researching and understanding the various aspects of hair transplant costs, individuals can make informed decisions and take a significant step towards restoring their hair and confidence.

I survived my DOL meeting and only feel like a minor failure at life!
While it's nice that they include activities like said meetings, things like working on your resume and taking free classes towards your 'job search' count, I feel it's ridiculous to expect people to job search out to 50 miles/1 hr of travel.
Would the job even pay for your mileage, wear on the car, and loss of the will to live going out that far?! Like jfc my personal limit has been 30 minutes (not including the bus, which took like 1 -1.5 hrs), because past that what kind of life are you even working towards?
Got some shit for not having a driver's license and not like having it medically taken away or whatever but I don't feel safe driving. Not with my migraines, anxiety, and poor attention span. At 37 without one, you'd think that people could just understand that there's something 'wrong' with me, so to speak. Like all the places I want to go? The jobs I could have? Is being limited by the bus, walking, and available rides somehow ☆glamorous☆ by comparison? Does it not speak to something past 'laziness'? Like I could randomly take myself to the zoo! I could surprise my partner with a special trip! I could maybe be a private investigator like I goddamn want(ed) to be!!
And yes, I'm not in physical therapy rn. They told me I didn't need it. Usually the specialist saying that you don't 'need' something means insurance won't pay for it. I can ask my Dr next week about it, but??? Idk, the whole thing with my hand has been a lot of ass and things not going as they should and very frustrating! My hand is *better* but not healed. There's 1.5 ish years of issue, it didn't seem accurate that it could clear up in only 3 months.
Apparently both those things rankled me more than I thought, but the meeting other than that was good I guess. Got some new places to check for jobs, and some to maybe apply to.
But that's a later/tomorrow thing. I am very emotionally tired from that and other errands today.
#techno babble#job stuff#My counselor is not Steve Raglan#i was not offered a job as a night guard at an old pizza restaurant#not sure if that's a win tbh

Skeletons in the Closet
@akagamiko // from here.
When the door shut, she found herself still watching it. It was only when the shadow of his feet stepped out of view that her shoulders deflated, awkwardness and stress leaving her in a gust of exhalation from her lungs. Her palm came up to rub at her forehead, massaging out the furrow that had formed on her brow. She had had a long time to prepare for how uncomfortable this reunion would be- thought she knew what to expect, but it still didn't make her want to crawl out of her skin and hideaway any less.
She looked around her new room once more, that feeling of relief and hope returning to her and stamping out the superficial negatives. She had survived far worse than embarrassment and awkwardness and they paled in comparison to what this opportunity, this new chance at life, could offer her. She walked over, sitting on the edge of the bed and glancing over to where light poured in from the port window.
Her room.
She smiled.
She had picked out some clothes from the wardrobe, the size indeed being a bit off but suitable nonetheless. Washing off the grime from her travels, brushing her teeth and her hair, it all felt as if she were shedding an old skin. A layer of dirt and knots she wished to free herself from and never experience again. Her hair was still damp when her fingers began to weave it into braids, a motion that was etched into her bones. Comfortable, familiar, calming.
With her hair pulled away from her neck, the light of the bathroom glint off the golden pendent that rest by her collarbone. Her fingers came up, thumb running across the grooves on the back in the same way she had always done since she was a small girl. Doing so had always conjured up comforting thoughts of her mother, but ever since Shanks had revealed that it had been his gift, it had become near impossible to separate him from it. She had found that within the past year, whenever she had needed some hope to cling onto, she would reach for her necklace the same way she always had yet it felt different. Lately... lately instead of her mind returning to the past where she could be with her mother, it would take her to the future her father had offered her. Many times during her journey alone, the hope that she could still have a future was all that kept her anchored to this world. Her only lifeline left.
She reached back to unhook the necklace, letting the chain collect in her palm. She rarely took it off, her neck feeling strange without it. Her eyes stared down at the unique engraving, the one Shanks had carved. Was this what her mother had hoped for? Insurance that no matter what happened, Akane would have a chance at being found when the proper time for it came?
Akane walked down familiar hallways, making her way over to the galley. Despite the assurances that she was welcome and wanted here, anxiety still coiled in her chest. Talking was hard. Talking about emotions was even harder. She knew all of this wouldn't be resolved in a day, that it would take time, but she couldn't go on acting as if everything was alright. As if realizing what her mother had kept from her hadn't ripped a new hole in her chest, even if her mother had deemed ultimate secrecy the greatest form of protection. She wanted to scream and cry and yell over what felt like a deep betrayal, the feelings she had buried clawing back up her throat at a rapid pace, threatening to spill over before she could even get a word out. Shanks was the only one who knew enough to understand.
The swinging doors of the galley parted to let her through, her focus immediately being drawn to the island Shanks sat at waiting for her. She offered a smile as she pulled out one of the high stools, commenting as she sat down, "Rum? Where from?"
Her necklace sat heavy in the breastpocket of her button-down shirt, its presence weighing on her as if it were a ball and chain.

So in 2022, at the ripe age of 31, I was convinced by my partner that using a mobility aid was in fact okay, and that by refusing I was only making my own life harder than it needed to be. Reluctantly, I bought a set of walking sticks (the telescoping kind they sell for hiking) and I immediately found that getting around was easier.
The next year, I bought my first walker, which I took with me to Disney World, and then to several zoos, museums, and parks where a lot of walking was on the agenda for the day. I have never regretted taking it with me, even to the airport, because it makes my life so much easier.
But there's a part of me that's constantly on the lookout for disapproving looks, or nasty comments, or disbelief from vendors who could give me a discount for being disabled but don't really want to, or feel that it's their right and their duty to gatekeep. (Some of them are in fact "gatekeepers," because they work at the gate, but honestly this just makes me laugh, though maybe not in the moment.)
I'm always waiting for someone to invalidate me, in part because of deep internalized ableism. Me wanting or even needing accommodations isn't something that's ALLOWED in my brain. It's something I have to ask permission for. Something I need certificates and doctor's notes to prove. I need a diagnosis, a badge, a card I can show people to show them that I'm not "faking it."
But then I remember that people really... don't. "Faking" having a disability isn't a convenient way to get discounts or free stuff. It's not convenient at all. It's actually extremely inconvenient to need a walker and a walking stick whenever I go on a long trip. My medical bills are expensive, my meds don't always work, and being weak and tired and dizzy while traveling is not only not normal, it's not something anyone should have to deal with in the absence of mobility aids. At this point, it's actually dangerous for me to not have them, because I might fall, or stumble into someone, or drop my bag. I'm a living tripping hazard - like the cat that definitely isn't trying to collect on your life insurance by asking for attention at the top of the stairs.
All that to say:
If you would benefit from having access to mobility aids, don't hold back because of what other people will think.
There is no metric by which you can measure how little what they think matters in comparison to the relief and pleasure of being able to live and move around more freely.
"low support needs disabled people are often not believed to have a disability at all and therefore struggle to get accommodations."
"high support needs disabled people's accommodations are often seen as 'too much' and therefore are not met."
"neurodivergent people's needs are often dismissed because nothing is physically wrong with them."
"physically disabled people people often cannot physically access buildings and people refuse to do anything about it."
"invisibly disabled people are seen as lazy by society."
"visibly disabled people are ostracized from society."
IT'S ALMOST LIKE THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE DISABILITY

Cheap Car Rentals in Mauritius: Find Your Perfect Ride Today!
Find cheap car rental options in Mauritius. Enjoy the freedom to explore the island at your own pace with budget-friendly rentals. Find the perfect ride today!
Are you planning a trip to Mauritius? This beautiful island is a paradise full of beaches, mountains, and cultural treasures. To truly enjoy your time in Mauritius, having your own transportation is essential. Public transport can be limiting, and taxis might get expensive if you’re exploring far-off places. So, the best way to travel around the island is to rent a car in Mauritius. Let’s explore how to find affordable car rentals and why a rental car is a great option for your trip.
Why Rent a Car in Mauritius?
Mauritius is known for its natural beauty, but the island is more than just beaches. There are national parks, botanical gardens, and scenic mountains to explore. A car rental in Mauritius offers you the freedom to visit all these amazing spots at your own pace. You won’t be bound by bus schedules, and you can easily reach less-touristy, hidden gems.
Here are some benefits of choosing a Mauritius car rental:
Flexibility: Go anywhere at any time. Stop wherever you want, take breaks, and discover hidden beaches or local eateries.
Convenience: No need to wait for public transportation. A rental car makes traveling much more comfortable, especially if you have luggage or travel with family.
Cost Savings: Renting a car can be cost-effective, especially if you’re planning to visit many places. Public transport costs add up, and taxis can be very expensive on the island.
Comfort: Having your own vehicle allows you to travel comfortably with your own space. This is especially nice for families and groups.
How to Find Cheap Car Rentals in Mauritius?
Finding a car rental in Mauritius doesn’t have to be difficult or costly. Here are some tips for finding an affordable car that meets your needs.
1. Book in Advance
Booking your car rental in advance can save you a lot of money. Prices tend to be lower when you book early, especially during the off-peak season. If you’re planning to travel during peak tourist times, such as December and January, booking in advance is even more important, as rates tend to rise.
2. Compare Prices Online
Several websites and travel platforms can help you compare prices from different Mauritius car rental companies. Look for platforms that show all the hidden fees upfront. This way, you can get an honest comparison and avoid unexpected costs. Some popular platforms include local agencies, international car rental websites, and travel comparison sites. Be sure to compare the following details:
Daily rates
Insurance coverage
Fuel policy
Mileage limits (some rentals may have unlimited mileage, while others may not)
3. Choose the Right Car Type
Think about what kind of car you’ll need. If you’re planning to explore mainly urban areas or visit places with narrow roads, a compact car might be perfect. On the other hand, if you plan to visit mountainous areas or travel with a large group, consider renting an SUV. Choosing the right car can save you money and make your travel experience more comfortable.
4. Look for Deals and Discounts
Many Mauritius car rental companies offer seasonal deals or discounts for long-term rentals. Look out for promotions, and don’t hesitate to ask about any special discounts. Some car rental agencies offer discounts if you book for a week or more, so check if they have any package deals that suit your travel plans.
5. Check for Hidden Fees
Always read the rental agreement carefully. Some companies may add hidden fees for things like additional drivers, young drivers, extra insurance, or airport pickup/drop-off services. Clarify these fees beforehand to avoid any surprises.
What to Consider When Renting a Car in Mauritius?
When you rent a car in Mauritius, there are some important things to keep in mind to ensure a smooth experience:
1. Driving License Requirements
In Mauritius, you need a valid driver’s license from your home country. Most car rental companies accept international licenses. Some companies may also require that you have held your license for at least one or two years.
2. Driving on the Left
Mauritius follows the British driving system, so you’ll need to drive on the left side of the road. If you’re not used to this, take some time to get comfortable, especially if it’s your first time driving on the left. I'm in Australia, and our conservative party have been trying to break our universal healthcare for decades. And they've been in power for (about) 20 of the last 25 years.
So it's not as good as it could be.
But America is FUUUCKED by comparison. When we travel to America we buy insurance to minimise the chance of a life altering BILL.
I get really confused when americans, when talking about universal health care are like ‘yeh but it’s not free sweaty :) :) you have to pay it through taxes :) so gotcha!!’
and I’m like ….???? That’s the whole point??? Everyone pays their fair share so that no one has to be turned away because they don’t have insurance??? And no one has to set up a Fundraiser page just so that they DONT DIE???? So people don’t put off going to the doctor because they’re scared of going bankrupt?? Because healthcare is a RIGHT and should be free at the point of access?!?

ok. while technically all of the things stated above are true i must add a "BUT", just to clarify some things because the situation is a bit more nuanced. The most honest answer to a question I received "is travelling in Europe really this cheap?!" is: it depends (i know, everyone's favourite answer). The amount of vacation days is regulated by the type of job contract you have signed and it varies from country to country. Therefore there are situations/jobs where you can have even 30 days of vacations and there are contracts/countries that give you exactly zero (0) :/ And no matter the part of the world you live in i don't need to tell you how capitalism works and that a lot of employers are awful and try to give you the worst conditions they can (in this case giving you the shitty job contract) -_-
Travelling itself: distances: the whole European continent is just sligthly bigger than all of USA, so naturally, it makes going to another country waaaaay easier. It's not like we leave our continent that often (most people never do actually), so it is comparable to never leaving USA (the whole North America is over 2 times bigger than Europe). prices: it depends on the destination, time and luggage. The mindblowing prices mentioned above are only available in cheap flight companies like Wizzair, Ryanair etc. They naturally offer less comfort, no onboard "luxuries" whatsoever (forget about even a glass of water), sometimes further airports and so on. They also have a lot of unfair practices but it's a topic for another post. If you want to travel by a "normal" airline, like Lufthansa, SAS, Turkish Airlines, Lot or whatever else you get the standard prices. The cheap airlines' prices also vary depending on a time and destination. There are places and days when it's simply impossible to travel that cheap. Usually the cheap destinationas are the most popular ones (like Warsaw-London mentioned above). So if you are paying that little you are probably doing a city break in a big metropolis, in a completely random dates, usually in the middle of the week. And you planned it either last minute or very far ahead. Moreover, you are travelling with just the small cabin item! 20 £ is not a price you can get for a flight with even a small suitcase (this feature is only available in cheap airlines, the standard ones have luggage included). And the prices for a cabin luggage costs usually as much as the flight itself. Not to mention this price doesn't include any insurance, seat choice and other "extras". But if you want to travel cheap you need to give up such "luxuries" like flying next to your friend ;P You also have to sometimes acommodate to flying from another city nearby or to a further airport.
Here is more acurate look at the prices of Warsaw - London (again, very popular destination, with few airlines to choose from) flights with just small item for summer 2024. You see how they vary. The second picture are exactly the same flights but with cabin luggage (the small suitcase that fits in the locker above your head). For comparison I'm adding prices for Warsaw-Frankfurt am Main (west Germany): this destination is not covered by cheap flights, so you have to use the "standard" companies like Lufthansa.
Additional info: internatinal buses and trains. Buses are usually the cheapest form of travel but ofc they are uncomfortable and take the longest. This picture shows a very (the most?) popular european bus company. Again, some prices for Warsaw-London and Warsaw-Frankfurt for comparison (but they let you have much bigger luggage). Now you see that it all depends heavily on a looooot of things XD
I won't prolong it even more by explaining trains, I'm just gonna say that they're the most comfortable, slightly faster than buses, the most eco, but the most expensive too when it comes to long distance travelling.
Hope it gives you slightly wider look at the travelling options for European people ^^ Having said all that I can confirm that if you're a middle class person you can afford to go for a cheap/moderate vacation once a year/few years (depending what part of the wide range of middle class are you). If you do it in a "student" way - the absolute cheapest flights, hotels, food etc you're probably able to travel much more (and there are certain tricks that travel nerds use) but it's not a vacation a typical European family would go, for obvious reasons.
Having travelled around the continent a bit and met a lot of other Europeans during youth events I can also confirm that even though we come from different countries we do share a more or less similiar mindset. So, yes, we are stuck a bit in our own bubble too. And, as always, being open or close minded really depends on a person ;) If you have any further questions about Europe, our culture or how to travel (very) cheap and meet various people from all over the continent/world ask away. This nerd is at your service :D
since moving here ive noticed europeans have no concept of how few americans ever leave USA. every american tourist youve met is of an economic crust that is vastly unobtainable to the other like. 85% generously. no matter what you have believed i can guarantee this. even getting to canada isnt really a possibility and the mexico-US border is highly controlled and militarized.
to put it into perspective. a ~2 hour flight from london to warsaw is like. 30 to 45 USD?
and a 2 hour flight from one US city to another would be about 130 USD
it was very cheap to fly here. i make over 100k USD now and i dont know if ill ever be able to afford leaving. if that gives you an idea of how prohibitive travel is here. i havent even touched on how the US has Zero guaranteed holidays by the govt. many people here go years without ever having an entire week off of work
this has had a like. massive impact on American Brain and they dont even know it because travel isnt even a consideration economically. they dont even know how much more vacation time european countries have guaranteed
#travelling#european meta#textpost#longpost#tumblr user being a smartass :P#travelling in europe#travel nerd#thanks for coming to my ted talk#differences between usa and europe#yes i still think europe is better#but don't make it some kind of paradise#we're far from perfect

Top Benefits of Using Ride Services for Seniors: A Guide to Safe and Convenient Travel
For many seniors, staying active and connected with the community is essential for their quality of life, yet transportation can present challenges. Ride services for seniors, whether through ride share services or on-demand options, have become invaluable tools that offer flexibility, convenience, and safety. These services not only enable seniors to travel freely but also offer practical solutions for accessing essential errands like grocery delivery for seniors. Here’s a look at the top benefits of using ride services for seniors and how they support safe, reliable transportation.
1. Independence and Freedom of Movement
For seniors who value their independence, ride services provide a safe, reliable means of transportation without needing to rely on family or friends. Whether for medical appointments, visiting loved ones, or running errands, ride services for seniors help individuals maintain their freedom of movement. These services empower seniors to manage their schedules, pursue social activities, and maintain connections within their communities. With this increased mobility, they can continue to enjoy activities and a sense of self-sufficiency.
2. Enhanced Safety with Senior-Focused Options
Safety is a top priority for any senior choosing a ride service, and many providers are tailoring their services to meet these needs. Specialized ride services for seniors often include drivers trained to assist with physical needs, such as helping passengers enter and exit vehicles. Some services also have vehicles equipped with senior-friendly features like extra seating room, low step-in heights, and additional handrails.
3. Flexible, On-Demand Convenience
One of the key advantages of ride share services is their on-demand ride service feature, allowing seniors to book a ride whenever they need it. On-demand services eliminate the need to schedule rides days in advance and provide the flexibility to arrange transportation at any time of day. This means that seniors can make last-minute plans or handle unexpected errands without worry.
The convenience of on-demand ride service is especially beneficial for seniors who enjoy an active lifestyle or those with spontaneous schedules. Instead of waiting for a scheduled pickup, seniors can arrange rides with a few taps on a smartphone or with assistance from a family member, enjoying the freedom to move as they wish.
4. Affordable Transportation Options
Ride services for seniors provide cost-effective solutions compared to owning a personal vehicle, especially for seniors who no longer drive regularly. The financial burden of vehicle maintenance, insurance, and fuel costs can add up, making ride services a practical alternative. Many rideshare services offer special rates for seniors, providing affordable fares and promotional discounts that further reduce costs.
Some services also provide pricing transparency, with apps displaying fare estimates before booking. This ensures seniors are informed about the cost upfront, allowing for easier budgeting. In comparison to traditional taxis or private hire options, rideshare services are typically more affordable, making them accessible for seniors on fixed incomes.
5. Reliable Access to Essentials, Including Grocery Delivery for Seniors
Maintaining access to essential goods, like groceries and medication, is crucial for seniors’ well-being. Ride services make this access easier, enabling seniors to travel to and from grocery stores or pharmacies with minimal hassle. For those who prefer not to leave their homes, grocery delivery for seniors is an excellent alternative. Many rideshare companies have expanded to include grocery delivery options, allowing seniors to order food and household essentials from local stores. These grocery delivery services for seniors offer an easy, efficient way to shop, reducing the need for physical trips to the store.
6. Support for Medical Appointments and Health Needs
For many seniors, regular doctor visits and medical appointments are part of maintaining good health. Ride services simplify the process of traveling to these appointments, particularly for seniors who may be unable to drive themselves. On-demand ride service options ensure seniors have reliable transportation to clinics, hospitals, and rehabilitation centers, avoiding the need to rearrange appointments due to transportation issues.
Some ride services even partner with healthcare providers to coordinate rides for patients, offering door-to-door service that ensures seniors get the support they need. By helping seniors keep up with their healthcare routines, ride services play a role in supporting overall wellness.
7. Reduced Stress for Family Members and Caregivers
Family members and caregivers often play a crucial role in a senior’s daily life, but they may not always be available to provide transportation. Ride services for seniors alleviate some of the responsibility placed on families, giving them peace of mind knowing their loved one has access to safe, reliable transportation. By taking advantage of ride share services or on-demand ride service options, seniors can handle everyday errands or appointments independently, which reduces stress for caregivers and helps them maintain a balanced schedule.
With features like trip tracking and driver information sharing, family members can stay informed about their loved one’s whereabouts, adding an additional level of security and transparency. This way, caregivers feel reassured that seniors are traveling safely, even when they’re not physically present.
8. Encourages Social Engagement and Active Lifestyles
Social interaction and community engagement are crucial for mental and emotional health, and ride services provide seniors with the means to participate in community events, social gatherings, or recreational activities. Rather than being limited to home, seniors can explore museums, attend church services, visit parks, or meet friends at local cafes. This type of engagement contributes to a positive outlook and fosters a sense of inclusion within the community.
Rideshare services enable seniors to participate in local events and keep up with hobbies or groups they enjoy. As a result, they experience a boost in mood and mental well-being, which plays an essential role in their overall health.
Conclusion: Enhancing Quality of Life Through Safe and Convenient Transportation
Ride services for seniors are much more than a mode of transportation—they represent freedom, safety, and accessibility. By offering flexibility, safety, and affordability, these services empower seniors to live their lives with minimal limitations. From everyday errands and medical visits to grocery delivery and social outings, ride share services and on-demand ride service options enhance seniors' lives and support independent living.
As these services continue to expand, they provide a critical resource for seniors seeking mobility and autonomy, making it easier to stay engaged, connected, and healthy. By embracing the convenience of ride services, seniors can confidently travel, shop, and explore, all while maintaining control of their schedules and their independence.

Top Tips for Car Hire in Menorca
Hiring a car is one of the best ways to explore Menorca’s stunning landscapes, pristine beaches, and charming towns at your own pace. With a rental car, you’ll have the freedom to visit hidden coves and scenic viewpoints without depending on public transportation. This guide offers top tips for car hire in Menorca so you can make the most of your trip while ensuring a smooth rental experience.
1. Book Your Car Hire in Advance
Booking your car hire in Menorca in advance has many benefits. During peak tourist season, rental cars are in high demand, and booking early helps you secure a car that suits your needs. In addition, booking ahead can save you money, as many rental companies offer discounts for advance reservations. You’ll also have more vehicle options to choose from and won’t need to worry about limited availability upon arrival.
2. Choose the Right Type of Car for Your Trip
When choosing a rental car, consider the type of trip you’re planning and the places you’d like to visit:
Compact Cars: Ideal for solo travelers or couples, compact cars are easy to park, fuel-efficient, and affordable.
SUVs and Family Cars: For families or those who need extra luggage space, an SUV or larger car is ideal for comfortable travel across the island.
Luxury Cars: If you’re looking for a unique experience, some rental companies offer luxury or convertible vehicles for a stylish way to explore Menorca.
3. Consider Car Hire at Menorca Airport for Convenience
Opting for car hire at Menorca airport allows you to pick up your vehicle as soon as you arrive. This is especially convenient if you’re flying in, as it saves time and eliminates the need to take public transport or a taxi to your accommodation. Most car rental companies at the airport offer flexible pick-up and drop-off hours, making it easy to match your rental schedule with your flights.
4. Compare Prices for the Best Deals
Prices can vary significantly across car rental companies, so it’s a good idea to compare rates from different providers. Online comparison tools or direct visits to rental websites are great for comparing prices. Don’t forget to check if the rental rate includes any additional fees, such as insurance, extra driver fees, or GPS charges, as these can add to the overall cost.
5. Check for Hidden Fees and Additional Costs
To avoid unexpected expenses, make sure you understand any additional costs associated with your car rental. Common fees to look out for include:
Insurance Add-Ons: Basic insurance is often included, but additional coverage may be offered at extra cost.
Young Driver Fees: Some companies charge an additional fee for drivers under 25 years old.
Additional Driver Fees: Adding extra drivers to the rental may incur extra charges.
By checking for these potential costs upfront, you’ll avoid surprises when it’s time to return the car.
6. Understand the Fuel Policy
Car rental companies in Menorca generally have one of two fuel policies: full-to-full or full-to-empty. The most common and economical choice is the full-to-full policy, where you receive the car with a full tank and are expected to return it the same way. This option is more cost-effective, as you only pay for the fuel you use. Be sure to clarify the fuel policy with your rental provider to avoid additional charges.
7. Choose the Right Insurance Coverage
When renting a car, it’s essential to understand the insurance options available to protect yourself in case of any issues during your trip. Here are the most common types of coverage:
Basic Insurance: Included in most rentals, this covers damage up to a certain amount. However, it may still leave you with a deductible to cover in case of damage.
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW): Covers damages to the rental car itself, reducing your liability in the event of an accident.
Full Coverage: Offers the highest level of protection, covering theft, third-party liability, and other potential damages.
Choosing the right coverage provides peace of mind during your trip, and many travelers opt for full coverage, especially for longer rentals.
8. Get Familiar with Local Driving Laws
Driving in Menorca is straightforward, but it’s helpful to understand some local rules and regulations to ensure a smooth journey:
Speed Limits: Typically, speed limits are 50 km/h in urban areas and 90 km/h on main roads. Be sure to follow posted speed limits.
Seat Belts: Seat belts are mandatory for all passengers.
Phone Use: Using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited unless you have a hands-free system.
Knowing these basic rules helps ensure a safe experience on the road.
9. Exploring Menorca’s Top Destinations by Car
With your rental car, you’ll have the freedom to explore some of Menorca’s most beautiful places. Here are a few must-visit spots:
Ciutadella: A historic town filled with narrow streets, charming plazas, and a picturesque harbor. Ciutadella is perfect for exploring on foot, but parking your rental car nearby makes it easy to access this beautiful area.
Monte Toro: The highest point on the island, offering panoramic views. Monte Toro is a peaceful spot ideal for scenic photos and a short hike.
Cala Macarella and Cala Mitjana: These two beautiful beaches are located along the southern coast. With a rental car, you can access nearby parking and enjoy the serene surroundings.
