Understanding Long-Term Car Rental
Long-term car rental refers to the provision of vehicles for extended periods, typically ranging from weeks to months. Unlike traditional car rental services, which are often geared towards short-term use, long-term rentals cater to individuals who require a vehicle for an extended duration.
This option appeals to various demographics, including professionals on extended business trips, tourists exploring a new city, individuals awaiting repairs on their personal vehicles, and temporary residents in need of transportation.
Benefits of Long-Term Car Rental
Flexibility: Long-term car rental provides unparalleled flexibility, allowing customers to choose vehicles based on their specific requirements. Whether it's a compact car for urban commuting or an SUV for family outings, rental providers offer a diverse fleet to accommodate various preferences and needs. This flexibility extends to rental durations, with options ranging from weeks to months, providing customers with the freedom to tailor their rental period according to their schedule.
Cost-Effectiveness: Despite the extended duration of rental, long-term car rental can be a cost-effective option compared to other alternatives. For individuals facing short-term transportation needs, such as tourists or temporary residents, opting for a long-term rental can be more economical than purchasing a vehicle or relying on ride-hailing services for an extended period. Additionally, long-term rental agreements often include benefits such as discounted rates, maintenance services, and insurance coverage, further enhancing their cost-effectiveness.
Convenience: Long-term car rental offers unparalleled convenience, eliminating the hassles associated with vehicle ownership. Rental providers handle maintenance tasks, including regular servicing and repairs, ensuring that customers enjoy a hassle-free driving experience throughout their rental period. Moreover, rental agreements typically include roadside assistance services, providing customers with peace of mind in case of emergencies or unexpected incidents on the road.
Variety and Accessibility: With a diverse fleet of vehicles ranging from economy cars to luxury sedans, long-term rental providers cater to diverse preferences and budgets. Customers have the freedom to select vehicles that suit their specific needs, whether it's fuel efficiency for long commutes or spacious interiors for family travels. Additionally, rental locations are conveniently situated across Winnipeg, ensuring easy accessibility for customers seeking to rent vehicles for extended durations.

Willie’s Backstory
We don’t know much about Willie’s life, but here’s my take on it for Willie Appreciation Week - Day 2. It’s not so much a fic as it is a series of headcanons written in prose, which is why i’ve opted to post it here on tumblr instead of ao3. You’ll find it under the cut below!
Warnings: mentions of Willie’s canonical death, implied car crash, implications of Willie having (undiagnosed) ADHD

A Life Before
Life at the Hollywood Ghost Club wasn’t so bad. Willie had a place to live and people to talk to. More than that, though, Willie felt a sense of belonging.
Growing up, Willie didn’t have it bad, necessarily. His father wasn’t in the picture, but his mother more than made up for it. He was her little duckling growing up; they did everything together and Willie never felt like he was necessarily lacking anything. In the best way Adele Ortega knew how, she loved her son. It was hard to find work, though, especially as a single mother, and they weren’t able to keep a steady home. Willie grew up living out of a suitcase, moving between motels and short term rental apartments in the dingiest parts of town, never having a place to call his own.
One of the bonuses of moving around so much was that Willie learned very quickly how to make friends. He had a natural talent for convincing even the surliest of truckers at the motel to talk to him and show him the inside of their cab. The employees all loved him, and he loved them back.
See, his mother raised him to be open and welcoming and kind. No matter what, he would use his manners and be respectful, and that was what he did. At school, Willie was friends with everyone, including the teachers, even if he didn’t get the highest grades.
After all, it’s hard to do homework while a drunk couple screams at each other in the next room.
When he was eight, his mother introduced him to painting one night. They were in a new motel, and Willie couldn’t sit still no matter how hard he tried. After he came in from running around the building, she had a canvas and some paint set up. When he questioned it, she merely smiled and sat back on the bed, telling him he could paint whatever he wanted.
His first painting was a collage of colours that covered the entire canvas. They hung it in every room they stayed in after that.
Art quickly became something Willie loved. He would spend hours with a piece of paper and markers, or canvas and paint. His mother would spend her spare change getting him new art supplies. It kept him calm; it gave him something to do when all he wanted to do was bounce around the room. It became his happy place.
It was a teenager who introduced him to skateboarding when Willie was thirteen, rolling along the sidewalk outside the motel. Jake was fifteen, with shaggy hair. He wore a muscle shirt, and a ripped denim jacket, and he was cool. Willie spent every evening outside with Jake the entire week he stayed at the motel, learning how to skate. More than skateboarding, though, Willie learned something possibly even more important about himself.
He had always considered the girls in his school to be nice, but he never liked to talk about them the way the other boys in his school did. In fact, he usually joined the girls in gossiping about other boys. It wasn’t until he was standing on the pavement, though, watching Jake explain how to do an ollie with his hair moving a bit in the wind and his muscles showing, that Willie realized he wasn’t even listening to the older boy’s explanation.
Nothing came of his crush on Jake, of course. When the older boy’s family left, Willie stared longingly at the RV as it pulled out of the parking lot. His mother asked him why he was so upset, since seeing people come and go was so commonplace, but Willie didn’t have an answer.
Thinking she understood, his mother got him a skateboard for Christmas that year. Willie gladly accepted it as a memory of his first crush.
By the time Willie reached high school, Adele finally got a permanent job at an office in Winnipeg. They moved into a quaint little mobile home on the outskirts of the city, and Willie was looking forward to being able to live a more normal life. As a teenager, he was excited to do the things Jake had talked about. Teenager things. Staying out late, going to the drive in with his friends, that sort of thing.
It was as if a switch was flipped. The rules changed. Now that Willie was a teenager, Adele seemed terrified that something would happen to him, so she started putting restrictions on him. It started with a 10pm curfew, then he couldn’t go downtown unless he let her know exactly where he was at all times. It was as if she realized he was getting older and had more options open to him; it was probably even perpetuated by her coworkers at the office. Willie wasn’t a kid standing outside a motel talking to a trucker, anymore. Willie was fifteen.
It was suffocating. There was so much Willie wanted to do, and his mother wouldn’t let him do any of it.
Their relationship suffered as a result. Willie challenged his mother every chance he could, pushing the boundaries. He stayed out past his curfew, and at seventeen, he came home on Saturday with a tattoo. A small one, mind you, a skateboard on his wrist, but a tattoo nonetheless. It was art, Willie argued. It was just another way to express himself.
His mother disagreed.
His grades kept slipping at school not because he didn’t know the material, but because he couldn’t focus long enough to complete assignments or tests. That was another point of contention between him and his mother, who tried to take away his skateboard when he failed grade 11 Math for the second time in a row - their argument lasted over an hour, and Willie avoided his mother for a week afterwards. The only class he seemed to thrive in was Art, of course, but now Adele was looking for him to decide on a career path. Art wasn’t a career, not in her mind, even if it was one of the things Willie was really good at.
At the age of eighteen, Willie spent most of his time hanging out at the skate park with a group of older boys. He had learned very quickly that it was best not to mention that he was gay, given the political climate, and that it was better to play along when the boys started whistling at girls. He hated it, but it was the only way to protect himself.
And then it happened.
Willie was heading home from the park late at night, helmet loose on his head, the strap undone, when a car came out of nowhere.
The last thing he remembered was the screams from the driver as she realized she had hurt someone.
So yeah, the Hollywood Ghost Club, in all honesty, was one of the best things that could have happened to Willie, given the circumstances. Caleb found him about a year after his death and lured him in with the promise of a community. He visited his mother a few times, but it was always too hard. It was easier to spend his time with Caleb and the other ghosts, with whom, of course, he immediately become friends. He learned to dance with Tatiana, a cute blonde who quickly became one of his best friends. Diana, Tatiana’s other best friend, was a little less sure about him.
Honestly, though, that was fair. Willie took a while to warm up to Diana too. It wasn’t until he showed her the tattoo on his wrist and told her why he had gotten it that she opened up. While Tatiana and Willie could chat for ages about the silliest things, he talked to Diana about the serious topics in his (after)life.
He had mixed feelings about Caleb at first. He was the man who had found him, who had explained everything there was to know about being a ghost. At the same time, though, there was something about him that was unsettling. Willie pushed those thoughts aside, though. As the years went by, he grew to trust Caleb more than anyone else at the club. He was positive there was nothing that Caleb could do wrong.
A place to live, people who cared about him, and a sense of belonging. That was all Willie could have ever wanted.

background fic ~ the truth
((hello! i wrote this way before the oc even properly started, but i feel like now is a good time to post this. so if you would like to know what really happened with tavi’s dad then maybe read this ;) some characters from the previous background fic make an appearance so i’ll leave a quick little list of the most important ones below. if you’re going to read this then enjoy (it’s really short i promise)! ps. ignore the spelling/grammar errors. tw: little mention of blood and violence))
((list of names: - Caspar Hayes: Tavi’s dad - Jimmie Davis: Caspar’s friend, they perform jazz music together - judge Laurenson: he’s the one who gave Caspar his jail sentence - Wilfred Wallis: the mayor of Winnipeg))
*****
[2nd of April 2084]
“Please, please! I beg you,” Jimmie Davis is on his knees on the floor, his hands clasped together. “I can’t leave my wife. She needs me.”
Judge Laurenson sighs. “Listen Mr Davis, I am willing to help you but only under one condition.”
At that Jimmie opens his eyes and looks up hopefully. He would do whatever is asked of him, everything for his wife. “Anything! I will do anything.”
“I need a name.”
“A name? Name for what? What name?”
The judge sighs again, “you know very well what I mean. Someone needs to take the blame for this.”
There is only one name that pops up into Jimmie’s head. But no. He can’t do that.
“Why not just let the case disappear?” he asks, desperately trying to find a way out. “You must have the power to do that!”
“Listen, you came to me. You need my help,” the judge speaks without any emotions. He must have done this more often, let an innocent person take the blame for something they had no part in. It doesn’t even matter whose name Jimmie is going to say, an innocent person will be brought into this mess. “We will play by my rules, or we won’t play at all.”
*****
A couple of weeks ago, the first letter had arrived.
Dear residents,
Winnipeg is a city that focusses on the future. I, Wilfred Wallis, think it is time to stop procrastinating and start the future today. The City Council and I put a lot of value in offering all citizens the best living circumstances as possible. To realize this the Council has come to the decision to buy all the land, starting with the district that is Maybank.
The residents of this district are asked to visit City Hall on the time and date specified below. Please bring the following documents to the appointment: this letter, identification papers of all residents living on your address, and your current lease contract.
Your appointment is: 11.05 AM on March 17, 2084
We would like to underline that the consequences for you, the residents, will not be major.
Let us build the future together.
Wilfred Wallis, mayor of Winnipeg
A letter full of meaningless words and empty promises.
Jimmie had gone to the City Hall on the day of his appointment, feeling like there was nothing to worry about. But when he saw the new lease contract, he had almost shat his pants.
The letter had promised no major consequences would come of this. A rental increase of 250 percent may not be a major consequence for the higher and richer Castes, but for everyone who didn’t have a lot of zeros in their back accounts, a rent of 3500 dollars a month meant financial suicide.
When Jimmie saw that number, he had stormed out of the City Hall. He would never sign such a lease contract. Not even with a gun pressed against his forehead.
More letters arrived in the following weeks, but it had been easy to ignore them. They were shoved into the garbage container, never to be spoken of again.
Until one day.
Jimmie had returned home after a performance in a jazz venue. All the lights in his house were out, despite it being well past midnight. He usually found his wife watching the tv, waiting for him to come home.
He found his wife shivering in a corner in the kitchen, her face wet from tears. Jimmie hurried towards her, pulling her into his arms. “Sharon, what’s wrong?”
She pointed to the front door, “so-o-ome men.” Her lip started to quiver, tears again spilling from her eyes. “They knocked, and- and I opened the door. But then they- they.”
Anger, white hot anger. That’s what Jimmie felt.
His wife tried again, “They- they were so strong. They pushed me aside and came in.”
“Who were they, Sharon? What did they do?”
She swallowed once. Tears were still running down her cheeks. “I-I don’t know, they said it was our own fault-t. Be-because we hadn’t signed a contract.” Her shaking intensified and she had trouble breathing, “Jim, I was so scared.”
“Honey, shush, I’m here now.” He tried to calm her, brushing her hair out of her face. “What did they do?”
“They- they. Took some of-of our posse-si-ons.” A loud sob left her body, “and all of our savings.”
Jimmie directed her towards a chair. One of the few things left in their living room he realized.
“I’ll be right back honey.” He planted a kiss on her forehead, “lock the door and don’t let anyone in, okay?”
His wife didn’t seem to fully take in what he had said. Her blank eyes didn’t leave his face.
He lifted one of the floorboards and took out the gun.
He made it all the way to the door when his wife called out, finally realizing what was about to happen. “Jimmie, where are you going? Please don’t leave me!”
But Jimmie didn’t answer. No. He jumped into his car and drove all the way to the other side of town.
All the windows of the mayor’s house revealed dark rooms. Except for one.
Jimmie climbed over the fence and walked across the lawn to that one window.
He bashed it open and jumped inside.
The mayor didn’t have the time to around before a gun was pressed onto his temple.
“You are a scumbag. The filthiest there is,” Jimmie hissed, his spit flying everywhere.
The mayor, frozen from fear, said, “take everything you want.”
Stupid fool. Jimmie wasn’t after money or valuables, there was only one thing he wanted in that moment.
The person who had caused all of this, deserved to suffer.
“Your men scared my wife,” he pushed the gun a little harder onto the mayor’s temple.
The mayor let out a snicker. He found the situation quite amusing, not fully realizing the danger he was in. “I’m guessing you’re the idiot who refuses to cooperate with us.”
“You have ruined our lives.” With all the calmness he could muster, Jimmie said, “the only idiot in this room is you.”
Pang.
Red stains were scattered all over Jimmie. His face, his neck, his arm, all covered with blood. The metalic smell filled his nose as soon as the bullet went through the mayor’s skull.
The body stayed in the chair, almost like nothing was wrong. Like the man wasn’t dead. But then it started to lean sideways, and with a loud thud it hit the ground.
He had already been out of the window when a scream pierced through the silence, “No! Willie!”
Jimmie didn’t turn around. He didn’t see the young female clutching the dead body of her husband close to her chest. The gun shot must have alarmed her. Blood was pooling all around her, turning her satin pyjamas bright red.
But she didn’t let go of her husband.
Not once.
Not even when the housekeeper found her the next morning and called the police.
*****
“Mr Davis, you’re wasting a lot of my time.” Judge Laurenson sighs, bringing Jimmie back to reality. “If you’re not going to give me a name, take your money and ...”
“Caspar Hayes.”
#selectionoc#background#fic#((also i dont know why i wrote this in 3rd pov SMH!!!))#((its shitty but like try to ignore my writing and focus on what happens))

Operation Polar Bear
While reading an article on the best places to see the Northern Lights, we stumbled upon Churchill, Manitoba…the ‘Polar Bear Capital of the World.’ Churchill, Manitoba is the first place for ice to freeze on the Hudson Bay. Thus, every October/November season, polar bears congregate on the shores and lazily await the ice to begin seal hunting. A chance to come within feet of a polar bear sounds like our type of trip! Read the full article here :) http://champagnetraveling.com/operation-polar-bear/ . . . . #Manitoba #churchill #Tundrabuggy #NorthernLights #polarbears #wildlife #PolarBear #polarbears #polarbearweek #polarbearlivesmatter #polarbearpuppy #polarbearsofinstagram #polarbearfighting #PolarBearsInternational #polarbearcam #polarbearsforglobalwarming #polarbearsaredope
How to Get There
Getting to Churchill takes commitment. Basically, there are two options 1) A very expensive flight on Calm Air from Winnipeg (approximately $1500 CAD) or 2) a long train journey on VIA Rail Canada. The train is significantly cheaper at around $500 CAD but it’s a 2 day train journey from Winnipeg. No roads exist to drive to Churchill. Our grand plan was to travel by car from Winnipeg to Thompson, Manitoba and then take the train making it only an overnight on a train versus those 2 long days (with no internet) ….costing around $150 CAD for the rental and $150 CAD for the train. We were derailed (train pun) when consecutive blizzards shut the tracks down for a couple years for repairs which became a nightmare for the residents of Churchill which you can read about here: Via Rail Hudson Bay Railway suspended, our wonderfully crafted itinerary crumbled and we forked over the cash for Calm Air.
When you arrive to Churchill, you are greeted by this sign. It’s enthralling as the bears are the reason for the lengthy trek…though it instills a justified trepidation. Our B&B host at Berg’s Bed and Breakfast picked us up and showed us around town. With a population around 900, it’s a quick tour. We could easily explore the small town of Churchill via foot though it’s unnerving knowing you could spy a polar bear around the next corner. Lodging here is quite basic. Expect no frills but great hospitality and you must book early. We planned our trip pretty late in the game (read: about 8 months in advance), but Churchill easily fills a year out. We were pretty lucky to secure a room. We stayed at Berg's Bed and Breakfast which has 3 rentable rooms. Note It appears that this accommodation has closed, so here's link to other possible accommodations in Churchill, MB. The Tundra Inn and Iceberg Inn are always popular though fill quickly and we were also intrigued by Blue Sky Bed and Breakfast which is a little outside of town and also offers dogsledding.
The Tundra Buggy
Lodging really wasn’t of importance to us…you’re enduring the brisk temperatures and lack of amenities for polar bears…in their natural environment. Does it get any cooler than that? We chose Great White Bear Tours for our excursion on a tundra buggy. For those unfamiliar, this is a supersized vehicle with enormous tires equipped with a viewing platform on the back. The advantage of using a tour operator is that very few are allowed in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area which can increase your odds of seeing a bear.
After an hour of slowly maneuvering the buggy through slush, our tour guide spied a plodding shape in the distance…a ‘potato chip in the snow’ as they nickname the sighting. Admittedly, I had tried to manage expectations. We’ve done many a whale tour to see a small flash of gray on the water’s surface allegedly representing a whale. Slowly the shape came closer and most decidedly was a polar bear loping toward the buggy. Words will fail to adequately describe this beautiful bear and how small you feel as you can feel his exhalation and look directly into his eyes. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
Self Tour in A Rental
Another way to experience the polar bear is via rental car. No one has informed the bears they must stay in the Wildlife Management Area…so they can be anywhere and you might get lucky (as we did) and spot a few. Or…become obsessed with driving back and forth over the same roads monotonously as there were rumors of a mom and 2 cubs roaming (no luck). This is another area where booking early is needed as there are maybe a handful of cars to rent in this remote area. We used Tamarack Rentals. Expect to pay ~ $125 CAD daily and a fistful of cash for refueling. Also, do not expect a luxury type rental in great working order…we used a screwdriver to push the automatic window button on the driver’s side to operate the window, listening to the one CD we could find on repeat as obviously there was no radio! We learned of Churchill via an article to see the Northern Lights. It snowed…and snowed during our entire trip. We didn’t once see the sun or have a clear night so no Northern Lights for us. Six polar bears though surely were a good consolation!
Champagne Splurge
The tundra buggy. Yes, you can rent a car, but this buggy (think a monster sized monster truck) lets you get within inches of the bears and it’s fitted with an outdoor viewing platform so you aren’t observing them through a window. It’s not cheap (~ $475 CAD for a day trip including lunch) but definitely splurge-worthy. Funnily enough, our fellow tourists had these cannon sized cameras. But…the bears came so close that they had to abandon their tripods and scramble for an iPhone to snap a photo!
Champagne 'Buzz'worthy
A Halloween visit. Children at night smack dab in the midst of a polar bear migration path could be disastrous. This holiday is the day for the children of Churchill to roam the streets! On this holiday, a perimeter is formed around the town with fire/police/ambulance to safeguard the very small town and helicopters survey overhead so the children can go trick or treating without fear of stumbling upon a hungry polar bear. Of interest, car doors are kept unlocked in case they are needed for a quick escape and there’s no dressing like a ghost so you aren’t mistaken for a bear!
Insider Tips
The train really does seem like quite an adventure. It’s rumored to have beautiful scenery and a days long train journey seems unique compared to the often cattle call of air travel.Private tour guides often meet their customers for the day at Gypsy’s Cafe. One little trick would be to follow their tour in your rental car. They often radio the best spots to each other Read the full article

CFL group pleased with season ticket response, looks to clear up stadium funding questions
The people behind a prospective CFL franchise for Halifax say the early response to their season ticket drive has been encouraging and on track.
But all this stadium talk has some wondering how the proposed stadium development will be paid for and by whom.
It's virtually impossible to talk about building a new stadium without wondering where the money is coming from.
Anthony Leblanc of Maritime Football Limited says he wants to set the record-straight on cash concerns.
“There's been a lot of misinformation that's out in the market -- it's an increase to our property tax -- it's not,” Leblanc said. “(Another is that) this is a tax grab through money that's been allocated for doctors, nurses and firefighters -- it's not.”
In its business plan, Maritime Football Limited expects the stadium will bring new developments to the Shannon Park area, such as restaurants, bars, and hotels.
Property taxes generated by those new developments over time, will contribute to funding the capital costs of the stadium.
As for provincial money?
“I’ve said there will be no money that will be coming out of general revenue,” said Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil. “There's been a number of ideas that have been floated -- a tax on car rentals as well as hotel rooms -- that potentially is a possibility for a revenue source, but it will not be coming out of current revenue or
current tax forms.”
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation agrees stadium funding needs to come from tickets not taxpayers.
The Atlantic director doesn't want to see what happened in Winnipeg happen here.
“The team couldn't even make the payments on the interest on the debt and so tax payers in Manitoba ended up having to assume that debt,” said Paige MacPherson.
But the stadium has its supporters, such as football fan Dominique Dib, who wants people around here to realize the potential a mixed-use stadium would bring to the area.
“Halifax, it's not a small town anymore, it's a big city,” Dib said. “It's so diverse and I think this is a tremendous opportunity to bring something like this to Halifax.”
It's an opportunity a group of CFL fans from the Yarmouth area have been working on for more than a decade.
Every year they host East Coast kitchen parties at the Grey Cup, raising awareness and excitement for a possible 10th franchise.
“We did get a visit from commissioner Randy Ambrosie last year at our venue,” said CFL stadium supporter Natasha Muise. “So, the support we've had from everybody has been great. It's really exciting that the potential team name will be announced at our venue.”
That announcement comes Nov. 23.
For now though, city staff continue to analyze the business case around a Shannon Park stadium.

PHIL HOSSACK / WINNIPEG FREE PRESSReeves prepares to shoot a walking scene on the set in Marquette, Manitoba Tuesday.
Movie set has tiny Marquette much ado about Keanu
By: Alexandra Paul Posted: 04/18/2017 7:39 PM
MARQUETTE – Lindsay McRae pulled up to her neighbour's yard Tuesday to ask if she and her kids could come over and star gaze on her back deck after work.
The neighbour, Shirley Thevenot, confided she had no idea shooting a feature film took so much work. Her deck overlooks the set of Siberia, a romantic thriller starring Keanu Reeves in Marquette, a tiny farming community 50 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
As a freshly minted action star, Reeves made a bold pivot 22 years ago, signing up to perform the title role of Hamlet on the stage of the Manitoba Theatre Centre in the winter of 1995.
This time around, the 52-year-old veteran action star is hot off his role in the US$130-million gross of John Wick: Chapter 2.
In Siberia, director Matthew Ross has Reeves playing a diamond dealer trying to sell blue diamonds of questionable origin in Russia. The diamond dude falls in obsessive love with a Russian café owner along the way.
In February, the Hollywood trade magazine Variety reported Reeves launched international sales at the European Film Market in Berlin through Company Films, which is working with IM Global and a production company to sell the film to international markets. WME is handling the domestic rights on this side of the Atlantic.
The whole thing is a little heady for tiny Marquette. Nearly the entire town had been transformed into a movie set for the shoot this week.
"You don't get to meet celebrities all the time, especially when they're just outside your door, in the middle of nowhere," said Terry Dorge, wearing workboots and a carpenter's belt while building an addition at the home of his cousin Tayvia Dorge. Her selfie with Reeves, shot as he stepped out of the shoot's Porta Potty, is the talk of the town.
"It's exciting. It's good for the town, brought people in out of curiosity. We're all talking about seeing the movie," bank employee Melissa McMillan said.
To hear the buzz, Reeves is "chill," a friendly guy who blends in wherever he appears, when he's not in front of the camera.
Case in point: one moment Monday saw about 10 women, all locals, cluster around Reeves with cellphones in hand.
When the production crew moved to usher them off, the star stepped in to welcome them. "Let them come," Reeves was quoted as saying. He posed for all the selfies the ladies wanted.
Marquette's population more than tripled overnight when the cast and crew of about 130 descended on the community Sunday. Its population is about 50
Thevenot's back deck, for example, overlooked the camera action Monday and all day Tuesday, as crews shot film from two homes they've rented from locals. The bungalows looks beaten up, with junk in the yards, all part of the movie set.
One homeowner said she's taking it in stride. She said she introduced herself to Reeves, got a handshake and ribbed him about the production crew transforming her yard into a junkyard.
"I told him he should get his stuff out of my backyard," said Bonnie Lawrence.
The Thevenot home is ideally located to watch all the action. The front picture window looks over the town's tiny restaurant, Grazzers, now transformed into a grim-looking Siberian café. The crew will shift from the houses across from her backyard to the café later this week, Thevenot has been told.
"I'm hoping my kids and I can catch something from her back deck this evening," McRae chuckled before driving off to collect her kids.
This week has proved to be a teaching moment for the town. It's seen various productions set up in the past, including Heaven is for Real — a 2014 Hollywood drama starring Greg Kinnear — but it's never hosted a crew for an entire week.
In addition to renting and renovating two of the half-dozen homes, the production has also rented out the curling rink and even added a small shed to Grazzers. Camera crews practiced their shots with stand-ins before Reeves stepped on-set for the real deal Tuesday.
Cars and vans scattered around the set have Russian licence plates. Two RCMP cruisers block the main street to detour traffic away from the productions. Huge trailers crowd the parking lot of the local co-op gas bar and convenience store and the back street of the town.
Cattle rancher Darren MacMillan figures Marquette will see itself in the film when it plays, but in the meantime, the rentals, renovations and general buzz are giving the town a little economic bump.
"They've been in town for a few weeks doing renovations, and we heard it was coming, but you never realized it until it's here. The town's shut down for a bit, and our little town has gone from 50 people to, probably it's 150 now... It all benefits the town," MacMillan said.

Back To Real Life
Life starts getting back to normal this morning as I'll be on my way to Moncton, New Brunswick to begin the first leg of the flights taking me west. It's pretty surreal to think that I've visited five provinces on this trip - albeit two were just in airports - but that's the path that this little excursion has taken me on as I happily followed the University of Manitoba Bisons women's hockey team until mid-March for the second-straight season. Life, on the other hand, moves on, so it's back to airports and departure schedules as I settle back into real life once more.
One of the fun things this blog allows me to do is explore other topics at time. Today is one such article as Hockey Blog in Canada is proud to bring you The Airport Report after having travelled through five of them on this trip! We'll go over some of the basics, but we'll look at this from a traveller's perspective in terms of what amenities and comforts the airports have when it comes to making a traveller as comfortable as possible. You may think that the bigger airports have it easy since they have all sorts of room to add restaurants and shops, but those aren't the only things that make travelling easier when it comes to layovers and staying relaxed during the arduous processes that going into shuffling people around the airport and onto a plane. I want to say upfront that this review is in no way official, verified, or peer-reviewed in any way, making it a bit of a tongue-in-cheek review. That being said, none of the airports are going to receive a failing or poor grade based on my experiences. JAMES RICHARDSON AIRPORT in WINNIPEG: This name is too long. I know that James Richardson was an important figure in Winnipeg, but we need to shorten this name. JimmyRich? J-Rich? Something shorter would be better. Once getting past the name, the airport is nice in that it's not a multi-terminal airport so getting from one end to the other is quite easy. This might be the only airport in Canada to not have both a Subway restaurant or a Booster Juice, so if you need a sandwich or a fruity beverage you'll have to acquire one at the other half-dozen restaurants. The seating in the departure area could be more comfortable, but I wasn't there for a layover so I survived. OVERALL SCORE: ★★★⋆/5 PEARSON AIRPORT in TORONTO:This review will encompass the best and worst about Pearson as I spent an ungodly 12 hours in this facility. I want to credit the staff who work at the three establishments open all night for helping to keep me sane as Subway, Tim Hortons, and 7-11 were my storefronts of saving grace. In case you were wondering, I preferred 7-11's coffee in Terminal 1 over the other two establishments' blends, so kudos to them. This airport has three terminals, none of which much sense considering the always-happening constructions and redesign that seems to be happening at each of them. Pearson Airport might be a government project with all the continued renovations happening at this point as I've never been to the airport without some section of the building having work done on it. While the construction itself wasn't much of a hassle, the effects of that construction were. I thought I found a comfortable place to sleep in the arrival area of Terminal 1, but it seems that Air Canada has arrivals that run throughout the night as it was anything but silent in there with passengers and bag carousels continually making as much noise as they could all night. I decided to relocate to a quiet hall in the departure area which became a full-on acoustic concert hall for the array of noises the overnight construction crew was making. I swear it was louder in there than it was in the arrival section of the terminal. Luckily for me, I did find an incredibly comfortable chair to lounge in, so not all was lost. I decided this place would be my refuge as I wasn't going to abandon what I believe may be the most comfortable chairs in Pearson.
One of the great highlights during my attempts to nod off and gain some precious sleep was the 3am alarm that went off as Pearson Airport ran some sort of test with its alarms. I had my headphones on so I didn't catch the full message, but you should likely be aware that noise-cancelling headphones don't entirely blot out ear-piercing alarms. Needless to say, I didn't sleep much during the full 30 minutes in which they let the alarms run. Why 30 minutes? I assume they knew I was trying to get some sleep. The security guards were likely giggling to themselves as they watched me on the cameras. The food was fine as Subway had a decent breakfast and the 7-11 coffee got me through to morning where I finally managed to get some sleep as the sounds of excited travellers replaced the ongoing symphony of banging and thuds from the construction crew. One could mistake Pearson as a large mall if one was so inclined as there are retail operations virtually everywhere in the terminals, so it's not like there wasn't a place to get whatever it was one was seeking. While I would have liked some place to lie down, the chair I found afforded me three hours of sleep in what is likely the busiest and noisiest airport in Canada. When I was finally going through security checks and getting ready to leave for my next destination, the lines moved quickly and efficiently. Even with the whole Boeing 737 Max groundings, Air Canada was shuffling people between gates as they looked to get passengers on planes as quickly as possible without much delay. Is Pearson big? Yes, perhaps too big. Is it noisy? Absolutely. Is it awful? Not by any measure as I survived the night and came out a little groggy and tired on the other side, but I made it without any deaths, without hunger, without thirst, and without a lot of sleep. Three out of four ain't bad, right? OVERALL SCORE: ★★★⋆/5 (the little star is half of a star) STANFIELD AIRPORT in HALIFAX: My time in this airport was brief as I had about two hours to discover everything about Halifax that I could from the brochures at the information desk. The airport was laid out well on its land, and there were clear directions to virtually every gate that one would need to find. There were a number of storefronts that one could browse, and the usual collection of restaurants were present. Heck, I even stopped at a Booster Juice as a pick-me-up for lunch! The seating in the departure area was nice - more comfortable than Winnipeg, but entirely less comfortable than the armchair I secured in Toronto. It certainly helped to brighten the day by having a sunny day combined with all the windows in the departure area. I was pleasantly surprised by Stanfield Airport, and, if it works for future flights, I'd stop there again! OVERALL SCORE: ★★★★/5 CHARLOTTETOWN AIRPORT: This airport felt like a small-town or secondary airport as it was literally a small terminal, a small baggage carousel, a couple of shops, and a car rental place or two. It wasn't flashy or extravagant, but it got the job done in a utilitarian way. If one had to spend an extended period of time here, there's little to do besides people-watch, but the airport got the job done when it came to getting people into and out of Charlottetown. OVERALL SCORE: ★★★⋆/5 GREATER ROMEO LEBLANC AIRPORT in MONCTON: There is no Lesser Romeo Leblanc Airport, so why is there a Greater Airport? For those that don't know, Romeo Leblanc was a Canadian journalist, politician, and statesman who served as Governor General of Canada before his passing in 2009, so I can appreciate the honouring of his legacy. Moncton's airport isn't extravagant either - it has a Tim Hortons and a bar upstairs next to the observation deck - but it actually has an art gallery in the airport that features local artists. And not just a hallway like they have in Toronto - an actual art gallery! Once through security, the departure area is rather small, but they have excellent places to work with outlets. The seating isn't overly great, but the stools for the electronics areas are far more comfy. OVERALL SCORE: ★★★★/5 Some may disagree with those scores above for each of the airports I visited on this trip, and that's likely do to each person's individual experiences at those airports. Again, none were a horrible experience by any means, and, despite my lack of sleep in Pearson Airport, all are modern with acceptable amenities to keep one's vacation or visit moving at an acceptable speed. I do think it's cool that I got to visit four provinces on this trip, experience crossing the Abegweit Passage of Northumberland Strait via the Conferedate Bridge, see the Atlantic Ocean from the plane and the shores of Charlottetown, and catch some great hockey action when I was working. At the end of the day, it's nice to be back home, but I had a blast on this trip! Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice! from Sports News http://hockey-blog-in-canada.blogspot.com/2019/03/back-to-real-life.html

Do I need to purchase additional insurance for a rental car?

What do you know about car insurance / car-totaled?
What is the law? You have a car; it is rated @ $3,800.00 book value. Another driver hits you in the rear at a Pa. borough crosswalk as you are traveling through and have stopped for a person crossing the street. You are nearly pushed into the pedestrian, but thankfully you were able to stop your car in time. The other driver is in the wrong of course; but how much does the offending driver's insurance company need to pay to fix your car? I'm having a problem - my estimate is $3,277.00. I am told to look for the car to be totaled and 80% of the book value is what the insurance company is required to pay. Does anyone know is this is true? This car is a 1999 but only has 58,000 miles on it and is in mint condition. I have owned it for 4 years and during that time have not put a penny in it for parts & repairs. To get another, I would take a great chance on getting one which is not nearly such good quality. I'm wondering if the insurance company has a maximum that they will pay for repairing - if so maybe I could add a little to it so I can keep this car? Didn't appreciate it so much until after the accident!!!!""

The police pulled me over and I was done for not having any car insurance, stupid of me but I never thought, my full licence was revoked and I had to start all over a gain on a provisional licence and also received a heavy fine. I reset my test again and passed and when I am asking for insurance I am asked for any convictions, I have not got a conviction on my licence or any points, my friend says I have been punished already by having my licence taken off me and re sitting my test again, and paying a fine. Canceled car insurance?
The case is complicated and it is about my car insurance. I misinformed my insurance company about my NCD. As a result they cancelled my policy. The problem is that before they cancelled it I had a claim. My car was not damage at all but the other guy had a few scratches on the bumper and he reported the incident. My insurance company informed me; they would cancel the policy and return all the payments I made so far. They would cover the cost of the damage to another guy, but I have to repay all the cost they bear. Does the insurance company may cover the damage and request reimbursement if they cancelled my policy? Whats my option, can I refused to pay them back? Because my policy was cancelled, so should I deal with a problem on my own? I guess it would be cheaper for me to pay for the damaged bumper straight to the other person than deal with the insurance company. Please advice

My grandmother bought a life insurance policy for me in 1980...?
My grandmother passed a few months ago, (i was not close to her, long story) I just found out from my aunt that my grandmother had a life insurance policy on me and my sister. I was born in 1980, I'm assuming that's probably when she started paying on the policy. She paid $1.20 a month and my aunt wants to know if I want to continue paying it. What happens if I don't? Can I cash it in? I do not have the policy in front of me but my sister has hers and it says purchased in 1986. the monthly payment was $2.40 for her. And it says something about a cash value on the back. from what I gather it is a whole life/ universal life policy from liberty life insurance out of south carolina. does anyone know if there is a way to calculate the cash value, estimate. I guess I might have to wait until Tuesday to call them to see if it is worth still paying on. (I do have other life insurance on myself)""

Why do i have to pay car insurance?
okay, ive been driving for about 3 years now (im18) and in those 3 years ive had to pay about over $200 a month for car insurance plus the yearly down payment of $600. and in those 3 years ive never been in an accident. im always cautious, drive good, etc... where has all that money gone? its a robbery i tell ya. its a scam, a waste of money. an extra burden on our shoulders. now my license is suspended for not paying insurance. i barely have enough to pay rent and other bills. so why pay $200 a month for something i dont need? there must be some other way. i know what you people are gonna say. your too young, you could get into an accident and all that other bull shte. and thats all it is. bull shte. or, you never know when the accident will happen. okay. but what about the 3 years? 3 times 600 down payment is 1,8000. plus the 200 time 36 months is. $9000 total... wtf? and if i ever did get an accident, it wont be as big as that of a bill. all im saying is. is there any way i can legally drive without having to pay insurance? i live in florida. what if i got a lawyer to fight the case. saying car insurance is a fraud?""

Best health insurance for 22 yr old?
Okay so right now I have insurance through my job and the insurance really blows (for lack of a better term). Every time I go to the doctor I end up paying a couple hundred dollars for the tests they have to run (I'm a girl so I go once a year). Plus they don't cover hospital visits (had to go the emergency room and me insurance didn't pay a dime so I had to pay $500 out of pocket for the visit). So I was looking into getting my own insurance but I am not sure which one I should get. I live in Arizona and I am a 22 year old female. The only time I go to the doctor is for my yearly gyno visit and if something is really wrong (which is very rare). I would also like a vision and dental with it too since I go to the dentist once a year along with going to the eye doctor. So any suggestions would be nice :) Thank you in advance.

I'm 22, just graduated from college and am just about to get my car put in my name and on my own insurance (was paying my parents for car insurance in my dads name before). Car insurance question?
My car got hit... the bumper is almost falling off. It is not my fault and the other person's insurance is covering it and they are sending me a check to cover the cost of it being fixed. Here's the thing... my car is a POS. I doubt it's even worth $1000. Do I have to get my car fixed with the money? Or can I use it how I want (such to help get a new car with)? I know the ethical thing to do would be to get it fixed, but it may actually be totaled (still drivable but the cost of getting it fixed may be more than it's worth). I was thinking about telling the insurance company, but I don't want to risk losing the $ to get it fixed... I've heard of other people getting in accidents, then getting the check and just not getting the car fixed. Anyone know?""

Auto insurance question.?
My step father auto was struck in th readend by a teen the other day. Now his car is not worth much. Maybe 1500 dollars. The 2 body shops gave repair estiments at 2700 and 4300. Now as this is his personnel car and gets 45 miles to the gallon you can understand why he wants to keep using it to get to work. From a legal standpoint, as this is a personnel auto and the other driver is required to carry general libility to cover damage to aother peoples autos. Can a insurance company require him to just settle for the 1,500 dollar value of the car. Or total the car. Or do they have some kind of loop hole. How is it they can require a third party to settle on there terms? As he is not the orginator of the policy, he did not enter into a contract with the insurance provider. Can he just go get it fixed and send them the bill or have the repair compnay send it to the insurance compnay?""

Looking for good company to buy term life insurance?
My husband and I recently purchased a home and have a baby on the way. We are desperately searching for a solid insurance company to purchase a 20yr level term life policy. ING has had a good rating but I think they have just been demoted slightly from AM Best and S&P. Any info I find online for customer reviews are all negative for every company I look at (not a single positive review for any). I'm not quite sure how these rates vary so widely. In New York: Best health insurance on the cheap?

Should I tell my insurance company I race?
I am 17 years old and currently have a regular drivers license, with no class M designation. I have been riding dirtbikes since I turned 4, and have been racing them for the past 3 years. I think telling this to my insurance company would do one of two things (if it does anything at all haha). Either they will think, oh this kid knows what he's doing, let's cut him a break and lower his rates or they will think oh this kid races, he will probably carry those habits to the road, thereby endangering himself and others. Which do you think they will do? Also, I AM planning on getting my motorcycle license when I turn 18. I probably wont use it for everyday use, since I have a dirtbike meant for off road use, but there are some races where you are required to have a street legal bike, and that means it has to be registered and insured. Since im not gonna be using it much, I don't want to have to pay more for the tiny 250 cc dirtbike than I do for my truck with a v8, that can easily double the speed and endangerment to others of my dirtbike. All in all, im just wondering how the insurance company would react to me dropping that information on them. And for those of you who find it interesting, I also have a boaters education certificate (complete bullshit, but required for legal use) and a private pilots license. So once I get my motorcycle license, I will legally and safely be able to take control of any mode of transportation except helicopters, and I've flown enough of those in the sim that I could even autorotate one if I had to :D more than likely lol. Thank you to everyone who helps answer my question!""

Read Our Full Travel Guide For Seeing Polar Bears Up Close and Personal
While reading an article on the best places to see the Northern Lights, we stumbled upon Churchill, Manitoba…the ‘Polar Bear Capital of the World.’ Churchill, Manitoba is the first place for ice to freeze on the Hudson Bay. Thus, every October/November season, polar bears congregate on the shores and lazily await the ice to begin seal hunting. A chance to come within feet of a polar bear sounds like our type of trip!
They often radio the best spots to each other While reading an article on the best places to see the Northern Lights, we stumbled upon Churchill, Manitoba…the ‘Polar Bear Capital of the World.’ Churchill, Manitoba is the first place for ice to freeze on the Hudson Bay. Thus, every October/November season, polar bears congregate on the shores and lazily await the ice to begin seal hunting. When you start to look into traveling to Churchill you will soon realize how expensive the tour companies can be. Most start around $10,000 per person and only really include one full day of seeing polar bears. Our guide will show you how you can see polar bears in the wild for under $3,000 per person and see the bears for more than 1 day. This was such an amazing and unique trip that we hope to go back one day. Read over our full guide, with details and pictures.
