He flopped into a chair at Aunt Lou’s kitchen table after spending the afternoon with his cousins. His eyes were on Lou as she poured tea and had that look. The one that meant she was about to have a serious talk with him. He sat back, hands behind his head. “You don’t have to make tea for me to ask me whatever it is you have to ask...”

Dinner with his dad. How weird was that? After all this time, he finally can say he has a relationship with his dad. The rest of his family, mom’s side anyway, aren’t exactly happy about this development, but he figured it was his life. He was an adult now, and he could hang out with his dad or not. It was nice, if still a little awkward at times.

He stared at his food, pushing it around. “So, how’s work been?” It was hard, finding conversation. Both because he was naturally shy, and because his father had been a void in his life for most of it, and PJ didn’t know how to tackle that. “I met a girl. At the dorm.”
