I originally made this tumblr for acnl, so it's sad to watch it die today. Online was so fun and I've met so many amazing and kind people from all over the world because of New Leaf. This game and the community are so special to me. Thank you so much for all the memories 🖤

surprise visits from villagers is the worst feature of animal crossing. i cannot enter my home and just chill out because two seconds after i enter there’s someone inviting themselves in spontaneously. nintendo im autistic i already have to deal with surprise visitors in real life please let me live in peace without the fear of hippeux breaking down my door

once, on a warm spring day in 2020, i was playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf on my teal Nintendo 3ds, (because i was 14 and had no money for Animal Crossing: New Horizons and a Switch) and i decided to attempt to satiate my ever-growing need for human connection by visiting Tortimer’s Island.

i was elated to find that my wishes had been answered, and there was one person there. we spoke for a while, discussing bug catching, bell earning, why Tom Nook is simply there to indoctrinate children into the destructive ways of capitalism, the usual things.

at one point, he asked me for my snapchat. i informed him i didn’t have snapchat. he asked me what i did have. i told him i had tumblr.

this was my critical mistake, my biggest error. i had not yet experienced the ridicule, the hatred, the raw bigotry directed towards Tumblrinas like myself. imagine the feeling of having someone you had just BONDED with using the laughing emote they earned from Dr. Shrink as a response to your choice of social media.

he told me that tumblr was for elderly people. for nerds. for social shut-ins. he called me a nerd, and then left the Island.

from that day forth, i have refrained from informing anyone, even my dearest loved ones, that i possess tumblr. i hope tumblr knows that this is not because i am ashamed, but because no one will ever understand our bond.

They're definitely never going to bring this back, especially in the current era of Nintendo greed, but I do miss in how in Animal Crossing on the GameCube they just had wholesale copies of old NES games that you could play in game. Practically in full. And you didn't even need to cheat to get (most of) them.

I remember how handy it was back in the day (when time traveling still had consequences) that I could just play Ice Climbers while I waited for the in-game clock to get to where I needed it to be and then I could run out of my little house and go about my tiny errands. It was fun. It's also why I knew who the ice climbers were when we got smash bros melee.

oh how i miss new leaf. what i wouldn’t give for books cranny to have multiple upgrades again, to have to unlock shampoodles, for everyone to have their own little stores. oh and the conversations i used to have with my villagers! i played 800hrs of acnl and still got dialogue i was sure i’d never seen before. i miss the little play dates you’d set up for a certain time, the regular delivery and fetch quests, perfect fruit!!!! the island with its different flora and fauna and the little medal games which you could get special furniture with. gracie’s special seasonal furniture!! a post office with my sweet pelly and pete (and my grumpy phyllis). dr shrunk teaching emotions. club lol. easier flower breeding (i find it impossible in new horizons). the amount of time i would play on a game that is new leaf on the new horizons graphics/engine. keep the terraforming and design options/lots of design slots but make the island even bigger so everyone can have a shop!! let me go to tortimers island and mystery islands. i just want all the charm of the old games back. new horizons always feels too much like a design sim with soulless versions of the villagers. here’s hoping one day they port new leaf and just make it even better
