TORREVIEJA DARTS LADIES ORGANISATION
Ladies Blind Triples in Memory of Irene Russell & Eileen Evette The Ladies of the League gathered at the New Tavern, in San Miguel, for our Ladies Blind Triples event.  Again, the Ladies League Memorial Shield, which is Dedicated to the Memory of those Departed will be presented to the winners.  Unfortunately, we lost two of our Ladies durng 2017, namely Irene Russell & Eileen Evette. Thank you everyone, because this time we had the highest number of players attending the event.  I am delighted with this, as attendance for this event has been poor in previous years and as we cannot fit the Pentathlon into the schedule; this is the only event we can mix everyone together as League. Due to being well supported, we had a preliminary round, and during the evening we had a Christmas Fancy Dress competition.  Surpise, surprise, everyone in Fancy Dress decided on an impromptu sing song serenading us with Rudolf the Rednose Reindeer and good fun was had by all.   Kim Fickling won the best fancy dress – well done Kim. Then came the exciting Semi-Finals between Gail Murray, Ellen Attwood & Heather McCormack and Pam Horton, Marylyn Jackson & Beatty Powell.  Then the second Semi-Final between Ann Wharton, Margaret Morris, & Mitch Halliday and Ann McGivern, Lillian Thomson & Simone de Lacy. The Final between Gail Murray, Ellen Attwood & Heather McCormack  and Ann McGivern, Lillian Thomson & Simone de Lacy was won by Gail Murray’s Triple which became Champions of the night.  Well done everyone who took part. I Have to say a warm hearted thank you to Ian Dowerick for hosting the evening at the New Tavern, and for providing us all with an excellent supper, including a very tasty vegetarian lasagna which was appreciated by everyone.  Thanks also go to the Bar Staff Isabel and Paula for all their hard work, including Stan the Man and the other Ladies who kindly did the marking throughout the evening.  This was our best Triples event to date. In the meantime, may I wish everyone a Prosperous and Healthy New Year for 2018, keep up the good work and enjoy your darts. Torrevieja Darts Ladies - Pairs Competition Results
All eight teams were represented with a total of 24 pairs entering.  The Gap ladies turned out on mass with 11 ladies, hoping to improve their odds on making it through the competition.  It was a ‘Red Sea’ during the pre-comp practice as the ladies arrived early and tested their arrows. The four ‘Ribena Berry’ Friendly Chicas pairs supplied a colourful contrast, and although somewhat perplexed at times by the draw and order of play, gave jolly good account of themselves and together with the Friendly Temps. Supplied the four sumptuous hampers for the raffle. The darling Dolly Mixtures and the host team Primadonnas registered 3 pairs apiece and were instrumental in helping to prepare the venue and provide insight into how the competition should be run! El Balcon put in two pairs who were sequentially knocked out by Gap pair Simone and Tracey (sorry ladies) and the mighty Black Dog Ladies, who had the winning duo last year, sent forth one pair this year but alas could not bring back the cup for the 2nd year running. A big thanks to our host venue The New Tavern for the table buffets, to Sheelah Cooper and Sharon Frain for organising the tables and providing the additional equipment. Thanks too to all the volunteer chalkers- it’s always the same ones who volunteer to keep the competition running on time and the usual ones that disappear into the ether when it’s their turn. Pam, Kim and Simone will be meeting to discuss future competitions and events this season and welcome suggestions via, the captains, as to how we can further streamline things. Quarter Finalists:  Gail Murray/ Cynthia Jevons (Gap Ladies) Simone de Lacy/ Tracey Simpson (Gap Ladies) Sue Cam/ Sandra Crabbe (Friendly Chicas) Ann Wharton/Stacey McDermott (Friendly Temps) Semi Finalists: Ann McGivern/ June Hawkins (Friendly Chicas) Elizabeth Cowan/ Sheerin Seedat (Gap ladies/Dolly Mixtures) Runners Up: Bliss Wright/ Elly Kearns (Gap Ladies) Winners: Pat Schofield/ Lesley Eagles (Gap Ladies)

Torrevieja Darts Ladies Organisation - Ladies singles competition.
The final total of 34 ladies representing seven of the eight teams in the Torrevieja Darts Ladies Organisation came together to contest the ladies singles championship this season.  Unfortunately, some strong contenders were unable to make it this year and a few withdrew at the last moment but a tight run ship saw us get through 5 knock out rounds before eventually getting down to the last two contestants.  Semi-finalists:   Lin Cousins- Friendly Chicas Beaty Elizabeth Cowan- Gap Ladies Simone de Lacy- Gap ladies – runner up Powell- Primadonas - winner The final was played the following week after the Player of the Year competition. and saw Beaty Powell as this year’s winner beating Simone de Lacy 4-2 (501, best of 7). Player of the year: This was a new competition, replacing the previous award that went to the lady who had the most singles wins and 100+ scores combined.  The two ladies from each of the eight teams who were available to play and had the highest number of the singles wins for their teams for the season, were drawn against one another to determine the ultimate player of the year.  A round robin contest saw players randomly drawn into groups of four to play each group opponent twice (501) totalling 6 games apiece.  This gave everyone fair opportunity to warm up and not be eliminated in the first game as would have happened in a straightforward knock-out draw. The winner of each group then went into the semi-finals (501 best of 3). Semi-Finalists:  Selma Dyer- Macklin’s Dolly Mixtures (left to right)      Sue Cam- Friendly Chicas Simone de Lacy- Gap Ladies        - Runner up Shirley Stephenson- El Balcon    - winner The final, which was played before the postponed ladies singles final, saw Gap Lady Simone face Shirley Stephenson of El Balcon, 501 best of 3.  A standing ovation was awarded to our Shirley, an octogenarian and the very essence and embodiment of what our league stands for, humble and overwhelmed in her 2-1 Victory. Very well done Shirley, your spirit, support and darts skills are truly something to aspire to. Thank you Friendly Temps and Friendly Chicas (Ladies Singles) and Pam, Kim and Simone (Player of the Year) for the raffle prizes, the proceeds of which go back into the running of the league, trophies and entertainment for presentation night.  Thanks also to Pam, Kim and Simone for organising and running the competitions.  A big thanks also to our hosts, The New Tavern, San Miguel and to Sheelah Cooper who has repeatedly, and often single-handedly, organised all the tables and seating for the teams and finally to all those who came to lend support to their team players.
