Modern Love (Logan Howlett x Fem!Reader)
A/N: Hey y'all! Here's something short and sweet. This is based on a request, so I hope the requester enjoys :) No song references here, but "Modern Love" by David Bowie seems appropriate. It's 80s, New Wave-y, and we're in an arcade in this fic, so it fits.
Summary: The team goes out to an arcade, and Logan is his usual grumpy self...but his soft spot for you is more clear than ever.
Warnings: Suggestive content (would totally write a second part with some true smut), tooth rotting fluff, friends to lovers, kissing, cursing, f!reader/afab!reader, grumpy!Logan, Jubilee is a cock block LOL, def some grammatical errors, I think that's it.
Word Count: 1,685 short and sweet indeed
Tumblr media
“I do not want to be here,” Logan complains, rolling his eyes as the team strolls into the arcade.
Jubilee skips inside, twirling with excitement. “Well, that’s just too bad, Logan!” She calls, running over to the arcade’s version of Dance Dance Revolution. Kurt is laughing, following at her heels. “Because everyone else is going to have a great time!”
“Gambit’s winning big tonight,” Gambit says, taking Rogue’s hand in his. “Gambit’s winning chere a prize, he is.” Rogue blushes, letting Gambit pull her to one of the fake slot machines.
Jean and Scott walk over to an older machine—Pac-Man or something similar, probably. Storm and Charles head towards the seating area near the snack bar in the back, leaving you and Logan to yourselves. Of course. You’re alone with Logan. The person you want but you know you can’t have.
You’re friends—just friends. You’ve accepted that he’ll never see you as anything more, but it still hurts.
“So…” You say, trailing off as Logan looks around the arcade. “Not your kind of place, huh?”
“Not particularly,” he says back, his eyes finding yours. You can’t help but smile at that stupid, grumpy look on his face. “You like this shit?” He asks, smiling back at you.
You shrug your shoulders, noncommittal. “I think you’d have fun if you tried,” you say, nodding towards the crane machine, and walking over. You can hear Logan’s footsteps against the carpet, following you close behind.
You peer into the glass, looking at all the stuffed animals filling the machine. Your smile widens when you spot the cute little turtle in the back—green and brown, wide eyes, and extra plush and round. Logan leans against the machine, arms crossed tightly against his chest. “Which one are we going for?” He asks. We—you can’t help but replay the word in your head. There’s a “we” in this. You and Logan.
You point to the turtle in the back row. “We’re going for that one,” you say, and his eyes find the green little thing. “Isn’t he cute?”
He shakes his head, grinning ear to ear, his grumpiness seemingly gone now. “Sure, princess, sure he is.”
Your breath hitches in your throat at the sound of the familiar pet name. You lean down to put a quarter in the machine, trying your best not to overthink the situation. The crane starts up, whirring to life, giving you three tries to win the stuffy.
You maneuver the crane to the back row, just above the turtle. “Do you think that’s good?” You ask, looking towards Logan. But he isn’t looking at the machine; he’s looking at you, smirking. “What?” You ask, narrowing your eyes incredulously.
“You’re cute when you concentrate,” Logan says, his smirk unwavering. You can feel the heat rising to your chest as he peers into the machine. He nods, his eyes finding yours again, changing the subject before you can respond to his comment. “Looks good to me.”
You swallow nervously, pressing the button on the top of the stick, sending the crane down to the stuffy. It grabs the turtle, holding it up. It looks like it’s going to make it, but it falls in the center of the glass box. You groan, annoyed as the crane moves back to position. You try again, bringing the crane to the center of the machine, just above the turtle, and dropping it again. The silver claws grip the plushy, but it’s a bad grab—the turtle slipping right out of its grasp.
“Fucking rigged,” you mutter, moving the crane over the turtle for the final time. “This is it,” you say, looking at Logan. He’s suddenly shifting closer to you, standing behind you and pressing his front to your back. His arms rest on either side of the crane machine’s controls, caging you in.
“Much better view from here,” he whispers at the shell of your ear. You’re distracted by how close he is. You can smell him—tobacco and pine and musk. “Let’s see if it works, princess.” This is too much. Far more than you can possibly handle.
You take a deep breath, your eyes surveying the crane’s distance from the turtle carefully, and you press the button. The crane drops, grabbing the stuffy, and picking it up successfully. “Yes!” You say, looking back at Logan. His face is inches from yours. You can feel his breath fan across your lips. Your noses are so close, brushing together softly. He leans in, lips parted.
“Game over!” A robotic, automated voice rings out, the crane whirling back into position. It snaps you back to reality, and you look inside the machine. There, off to the side just next to the machine’s drop box, is the turtle.
“Shit,” you mumble, shoulders slumping with disappointment. You know it’s just a game, and you are an adult after all, but you can’t help the frown that forms across your face. “I really wanted him. I was gonna name him Bernie.”
Logan chuckles. “Bernie?” he asks, and you nod. He’s centimeters away from you again, leaning in. “Don’t sweat the loss, princess. You’re cuter than that little thing is anyw—"
“Look what Kurt and I got with our tickets!” Jubilee is suddenly in front of you, a stuffed, sparkly blue dinosaur in her hand. She’s tugging you away from Logan and across the arcade before you can protest. “You gotta dance with me!” You look back at Logan, who’s standing alone in front of the crane machine, arms tucked against his chest.
Have fun, he mouths. And good luck. He winks at you as Jubilee whisks you off to Dance Dance Revolution. You let her pick the song, and you struggle through the round, your feet tapping to the beat. You and Jubilee are a laughing mess. You know you look absolutely ridiculous, but it’s fun.
And yet, your mind still wanders to Logan. You think about how close he was to you, the way his lips practically brushed against yours—the ghost of a kiss. You think about the way he caged you in, pressed against your back. You’re so distracted that you don’t even realize how badly you’re fumbling all the moves; you don’t hear Jubilee calling your name.
“Hey!” She shouts, finally bringing you back to reality. The round is over; you missed the entire second half of the dance. “Where’d you go just there?” She asks, concern hidden within her smile.
You look over to the crane machine, expecting to see Logan, but he’s gone. In fact, you can’t find him anywhere. “Sorry Jubes, but I gotta go see about something,” you say, stepping off the platform.
Your eyes search the arcade. Gambit and Rogue are at the ticket redemption counter, picking out a big stuffed bear. Kurt is fooling around on one of those motorcycle racing games. Storm and Charles are—uncharacteristically—sharing a soft pretzel, while Jean and Scott share a milkshake. Everyone is here and accounted for except Logan.
That is, until you notice the puff of smoke in the corner of the glass door at the front of the arcade. You smirk, walking towards the entrance and pushing the door open.
Logan leans against the brick wall of the building, cigar in his mouth. His head turns towards you, and he immediately takes the cigar out, dropping it to the ground and extinguishing it with the heel of his boot.
“Hi,” you whisper, standing next to him.
He looks down at you, smiling widely. “Hi.” He’s leaning in again—so close—and a shiver runs up your spine. “Cold?” He asks, shrugging out of his leather jacket before you have a chance to answer. He helps you into the jacket one arm at a time, his eyes drinking you in once it’s on, trailing up and down your body. “Looks good on you,” he hums. “Way better than it does on me.”
You shake your head, letting your shoulder brush against his. You look over at him and suddenly notice something green and round in his hand. “What’s that?” You ask. But you already know. You recognize the little brown spots and the wide eyes.
Logan smirks, lifting the turtle up. “Couldn’t let you go home without him,” he says, holding it out towards you.
“No way!” You shout, ignoring the turtle and throwing your arms around Logan’s neck. It’s instinctive, natural. He tugs you in closer, his arms wrapping around your waist. “Thank you so much,” you mumble into the crook of his neck. “I can’t believe you ended up playing a game at an arcade.”
“I’d do anything for you,” he whispers against your temple. The sudden vulnerability of his words makes your heart tighten in your chest. You stay like that for a while, his lips ghosting your forehead, your chests pressed together. You finally lift your head, looking up at Logan.
“Lo?” You whisper, and his gaze meets yours, flitting between your eyes and your lips. He drops the plushy onto the bench next to him and walks you back into the brick wall, caging you in, hands on either side of your waist.
He leans in. “Yeah, pretty girl?” He brings one hand to your hip, gripping gently. “What do you need?”
“Y-you,” you stutter. “I need y—"
His lips swallow your words, fitting against yours like a puzzle piece. The kiss is slow, languid, but you can feel his need in the way he moves against you, hands slipping underneath the borrowed jacket and your shirt to explore your skin. His fingertips drag along your back, relaxing you into his touch.
“Maybe we should get out of here,” Logan mumbles against your lips.
Your heart flutters in your chest. “But what about the others?” You ask, nodding to the arcade.
Logan smirks, stealing another kiss. “All the more reason to get back to the mansion before they do.”
“But how are we going to—”
He grips your waist, tugging you towards the parking lot. “I took my bike, pretty girl.”
Oh?
Oh.

“Remember that fundraiser I was telling you about?”
You lift your gaze from the sidewalk, giving Tara a sideways glance. “Yeah, I think so. What about it?”
“Well,” she sings, hugging her thick textbook tighter to her chest before nudging you with her elbow, “I was wondering if you’d like to help us out! We’re always looking for more girls, you know. The sisters of Delta Gamma can only do so much.”
You suck your teeth, tilting your head as your eyes drift to the towering oak tree at the center of the great lawn. The campus had spent the past few days drowning under gray skies and spring showers, but today, the sun had finally broken through. Its warmth pressed against your skin, so bright you had to squint just to avoid being completely blinded.
You look back at Tara. “What day is it again?”
“Next Saturday,” she says with a shrug. “2 PM, in the parking lot between the Delta Gamma house and Lambda Chi Alpha’s.” A pause, as if she was already sensing your impending rejection. “Please? Please!”
You hate when she does this. The puppy dog eyes. That hopeful little tilt of her head. The same look that had managed to drag you to one too many frat parties when you swore you wouldn’t go. Saying no made you feel like some heartless villain stomping on an ant just for the fun of it, and for a moment, you almost caved entirely.
“I’ll… think about it, but midterms are–” you start, but before you can finish, she’s already beaming.
“Yay!” Tara links her arm through yours, practically bouncing as you continue toward Grand Hall. “I’ll text you all the details, ‘kay? I so owe you one.”
You press your lips into a thin smile, debating whether to remind her that you hadn’t actually said yes. Instead, you settle for, “If I end up making it, we’ll call it even for you helping me study for chem.”
She grins. “Good luck on that, by the way. I know you’ll do great!”
The two of you stop outside the building, and Tara leans in, lowering her voice conspiratorially like she’s about to tell you a scandalous secret.
“And remember, the electron cloud model—”
“—is the area around an atom’s nucleus where electrons are most likely to be found,” you finish, unable to fight a smile. “I know, I know. You trained me well.”
You squeeze her arm before unhooking yourself and stepping into the lecture hall.
“I’ll find you after class!” she calls after you.
Inside, the air is sharp with cold, and a shiver runs down your spine. The mood of the room seems different today, as if the oxygen you were all breathing in was thick with anxiety. Your seatmate, Yvonne, is already at her desk, supplies neatly arranged in front of her. You give her a silent smile before sitting down and doing the same.
Once again, you can’t help but notice that the room is quiet—eerily so. Everyone is either too tired to talk or too nervous to form a coherent sentence. Probably both.
As the exam begins, the only sounds filling the space are the rustling of paper and the scratch of pencils against scantrons. You’re on question 21 when you realize you’ve just marked “C” four times in a row. A bead of cold sweat pricks at your temple, and you read over each question about a hundred times, praying that you’ll catch your mistake. After all, that can’t be right… can it? Your gut says yes. Your overthinking says absolutely not.
An hour later, relief ripples through the room as students zip up their backpacks and shuffle toward the front to turn in their scantrons. You’re right behind them, ready to bolt for the door—until Dr. Rappaccini calls your name.
Pausing mid-step, you turn back to face her, plastering on a polite smile that didn’t quite reach your eyes. “Yeah?”
She digs through her bag before pulling out a worn notebook, its cover littered with colorful tabs and sticky notes. Holding it out to you, she looks as if she couldn’t care less about the transaction.
“I believe your lab partner left this in the laboratory last class.”
Your brows furrow as you take the heavy notebook into your hands, flipping it open with a frown. Lo and behold, there it was—‘Property of Caleb Xia’ scribbled in that god-awful handwriting. Raising an eyebrow, you shake your head. “It’s his, yeah… but why are you giving it to me?”
“He didn’t show up for today’s exam, and I’ve canceled class next Monday,” she explains, slinging her tote bag over her shoulder. “Since you work closely with him, I figured you’d see him before I do.”
Now that catches your attention. A sliver—no, a slap—of satisfaction rolls through you. So his sabotage in the lab had already come back to bite him? Karma was fast today. You couldn’t be happier. But unfortunately, the thought of voluntarily interacting with Caleb makes your stomach churn, so you extend the notebook back to your professor without hesitation.
“I assure you, I don’t care to see that man. It’s probably best if you return it to him.”
She glances at her watch, and you can practically see the sweat break out on her forehead. “Oh, I wish I had the time to. I’m running late!”
Gathering her belongings, she makes a beeline for the door. You’re quick to try and follow suit.
Her voice adds a swift, “Ask around! I’m sure someone can help you track him down.”
“But wait! I don’t even—”
The door slams behind Dr. Rappaccini, leaving you frozen in place with Caleb’s stupid notebook clutched to your chest.
“—know what building he lives in.”
You groan, dragging your feet toward the exit, already dreading the idea of having to track down that idiot. In fact, maybe you won’t.
♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎
“Hey, what are you doing?”
Tara’s voice cuts through the air, startling you. The flicked lighter in your hand dies out before you can hold it to the bottom of Caleb’s notebook long enough for the flames to catch.
“The damn thing won’t light,” you huff, shaking your head in defeat. “Do you happen to know anyone on campus who has lighter fluid?”
Tara crouches beside you, watching with mild horror as you attempt—and fail—to ignite the corner of the notebook again. “Uh… no, not off the top of my head.” She pauses, tilting her head. “And just to be clear, you’re aware that you’re about to light your notebook on fire, right?”
You shrug. “It’s not mine.”
Her head snaps toward you so fast you worry about whiplash. “Okay, let me rephrase that. You’re aware that you’re about to commit a felony, right?”
You flick the lighter again, giving her a puzzled look. “Please, Tara, I don’t care about felonies right now. This is war, and I need to take my revenge.”
“Revenge?” she echoes, her lips tugging downward like she hadn’t considered that to be your motive. “On the notebook or the owner?”
“On Caleb fucking Xia,” you reply, punctuating each word with another flick of the lighter. Then, finally, a tiny flame flickers to life at the corner of the notebook. A wide grin spreads across your lips. “Yay! I did it! Look, I—”
Tara leans forward, blows out the flame, and snatches the lighter from your grasp. “Are you nuts? You can’t just burn his chem notebook!”
You hum, twisting your lips to the side. “You’re right. I’d totally get caught. Maybe I should pawn it off to a frat guy? Make a quick buck. They’d probably pay good money for his notes.”
“What? No! You can’t burn his notebook because that would mean stooping to his level!”
You reach for the lighter, but she stretches her arm out just far enough that you can’t reach.
“Tara! When they go low, we must go lower.”
“When they go low, we should be the bigger person,” she corrects, patting your head like a disobedient child. “How did you even get it? You didn’t steal it, did you?”
You sigh, shaking your head. “No, I wish. Dr. Rappaccini gave it to me to return to him. Apparently, he left it in the lab.”
Tara tilts her head. “Oh. He didn’t show up for the exam? That’s… unlike him.”
Shrugging, you brush off the singed paper flakes from the bottom of the notebook. “I guess. Can’t say I care, though. It’s what he deserves.”
She scoffs. “Geez, this whole scandal has turned you heartless. The Caleb I know would rather eat glass than miss an exam, especially the first one of the semester. I hope he’s alright.”
“In that case, maybe you should be the one to return it to him,” you suggest, holding it out. “You seem to know where he lives, and you actually care if he’s alive. That’s already two steps in the right direction.”
Tara glances at her phone, then sucks on her teeth before flashing you a wry smile. “Oh, shoot! I can’t. I have my physics exam in four minutes.” Before you can argue, she’s already bolting toward her class. “Uh, I think he’s close with Zayne! The one from our bio class!”
You toss your hands up. “Why the hell am I being sent on a manhunt?” Patting your pockets, you realize something’s missing. “Hey! You took my lighter.”
“It’s for the better!” she calls over her shoulder.
♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎
After a deep dive through Canvas, a trip to Outlook to send Zayne a rather frantic email, and a very long walk across campus, you find yourself stalking through the halls of an unfamiliar dorm building.
Your eyes flick up from your phone every few steps, scanning the numbers on the doors to make sure you haven’t somehow wandered into oblivion. It’s been ten minutes—too long, in your opinion—and you’re beginning to feel like a headless zombie, doomed to wander these halls forever.
That is, until your eyes land on a familiar set of numbers.
Room 323.
Exhaling sharply, you raise your fist and knock three times against the door. The response is almost immediate—an audible thud, followed by an impressive string of curses.
Then, the door swings open, revealing a very panicked and very shirtless Caleb.
And you? Your brain short-circuits.
For a second—just one—you can’t help it. Your gaze drops straight to his torso, where sharp lines of muscle carve into his biceps and abdomen like a damn Michelangelo sculpture. You’re almost positive those weren’t there yesterday. Scratch that. You’re absolutely positive they weren’t.
And you would have noticed. You’re nothing if not boundlessly observant. After all, you’re just a girl. You would have noticed if your infuriating classmate had nice biceps that would have certainly softened the blow of his sudden betrayal in the lab yesterday.
Pretty privilege is alive and well, you can’t help but think.
Caleb, looking equally flustered, yanks the door halfway shut, reducing the view to just his face. His chest still heaves from whatever chaos had preceded your arrival.
“I, uh… um.” He blinks, clearly rebooting his internal system. His brain fries, and of course the first thing he can do is lean his elbow against the door frame while not-so-obviously flexing his much larger bicep in the process. “So… what’s up?”
Dragging your gaze up to meet his with only minor difficulty, you hold up the slightly charred notebook in your hands. “You left this in class. Rappaccini told me to bring it to you.”
Caleb reaches for it, and the moment his fingers graze the cover, his brows furrow. He flips it over, rubbing his thumb against the edge. A smudge of soot stains his hand.
“What… happened to it?”
You lift your shoulders, hands flying up in a gesture of pure innocence. “No clue. Your guess is as good as mine.”
Before he can properly assess the obvious fire damage, you straighten your posture. If you beat him to it, there’s a good chance that you’ll be able to walk away from this entire ordeal scot free.
Just… be civil. You can do that much.
“Are you not going to say thank you? I literally had to email your roommate to find out where you live. It was a total inconvenience.”
Or not.
Caleb presses his lips into a thin line, tossing the notebook onto his desk before giving you a barely-there nod. “Right. Thanks.”
His clipped tone does nothing to soothe your irritation. You’re actually starting to regret not letting the damn thing go up in flames. If it weren’t for Tara and her obnoxious morality complex, you would have.
“You’re welcome,” you say sweetly, pivoting to leave. But just before he can close the door, something crosses your mind. “Oh! By the way, I wrote my number in the margin.”
Caleb’s eyes widen. His grip on the door frame tightens. “What? For me?”
A beat of silence. Then, you burst into laughter, and the fact that he isn’t laughing with you makes it ten times funnier. You have to physically wipe the tears from your eyes before you can speak again.
“Oh, you’re serious?” you wheeze, still catching your breath. “God, no. It’s for Zayne.”
“For… Zayne?”
You nod. “Yup. I have biology with him.”
Caleb leans back slightly, like you’ve just personally offended his ancestors. “And? You have chem with me.”
You flash him an expression that Caleb can only assume is the most passive-aggressive smile known to mankind. “Mm-hmm. Well, maybe I want to get in kahoots with people who don’t sabotage my lab reports.”
Ouch. Caleb rubs the back of his neck, swallowing hard. “About that…”
“Save it,” you hum, turning to leave. “Just be a doll and relay the message, yeah?”
But just before you step away, your eyes flicker to his chest again—this time, with an exaggerated furrow of concern. “Wait a sec… what the hell is that? You should really get that nasty mole checked out.”
Caleb’s brows knit together. He instinctively glances down—
And just as his chin tilts, your hand smacks against it, forcing it back up. Your laughter is louder this time. Almost cruel.
“Too easy, this game,” you taunt, shaking your head.
You’re gone before he can do anything other than stand there, jaw slack, ears burning a shade of red that rivals a fire hydrant. How could you prank him with the easiest trick in the book? He rubs his chin, shaking his head in utter defeat as he nudges his door shut.
Yeah. He doesn’t like you one bit.
Before he can dwell on that fact, his phone buzzes in his pocket.
xavier (pres of lambda chi alpha): i woke up late and missed physics. can U slide me the notes for the past week? i also slept through those days too… btw Ur still coming to the frat car wash next saturday right ?? we need U bro. U brought in so many new customers

♥︎ ♥︎ ♥︎
Sirens blare loud enough to wake you, their wailing cries bouncing off the buildings outside your window. The flashing of red and blue does little to ease your nerves—if anything, it invites the perfect storm of overthinking.
Your room is a mess. You haven’t eaten a balanced meal in days. A biology project is due next week. But above all? Midterms are rapidly approaching.
Lately, most of your days are spent holed up on the second floor of the library, tucked away in your usual corner seat. From there, you can people-watch from above and soak in just enough sunlight to keep from feeling like life is draining from you with each word you scribble down or type up. But after a while, even the comfort of routine turns into a cage.
It’s monotonous. Tiring. Far too predictable for your liking. If you don’t see at least one interesting thing each day—whether it’s someone walking their adorable dog or a person wearing a sweater so blindingly neon it makes your eyes hurt—you consider the day a waste. You still study, of course, but you need something of substance to fuel your brain. Something besides your bitter iced coffee, which barely manages to keep you conscious.
Maybe it’s the exhaustion of your second midterm season settling into your bones. Maybe it’s the weight of all your responsibilities pressing down on your shoulders. Whatever it is, it drives you to seek out a new place to study.
Is it 4 AM? Yes. Are the sirens especially loud tonight? Also yes. You can’t sleep. Sue you.
It makes perfect sense why you find yourself trudging into your university’s 24-hour café, headphones snug over your ears and meal card already in hand. Fuzzy pajama pants and an oversized hoodie hang off your frame, but if the cashier doesn’t care, neither do you. You’d be damned if you didn’t at least get your usual morning drink and a slice of banana bread to kickstart your day.
No more than an hour passes before the faint jingle of the entrance bell rings to life, prompting you to spare a glance over your shoulder, curiosity piqued.
Luck isn’t on your side. Of course it’s Caleb.
And he looks… different. Not in the way he did a few days ago—no, he looks worn. Tired. A bruise blooms across his cheek, stark even in the café’s dim lighting. You force yourself to look away before you can start ogling like a freak. Again.
But as he makes his way in your direction, you barely suppress a groan, turning back toward your laptop in a last-ditch effort to seem busy. It doesn’t work. Not when you feel the weight of his beady little amethyst stare boring into the back of your head.
You sigh, forcing a cheery tone. “Can you maybe not stand next to me looking like a decaying corpse? You’re going to attract flies.”
Caleb shrugs, managing to pick an almond off your banana bread before you slap his hand away. “You’re doing that on your own. Didn’t you hear? This café was infested with fruit flies last semester. Your perfume is basically a mating call for ‘em.”
You huff, tilting your head. “Aw. Is that your way of saying I smell nice?”
Rolling his eyes, Caleb crosses his arms over his chest. You notice a small cut on his bicep, but you do your best not to stare. You've done enough of that lately.
“No,” he flatly says. “I’m just… stating my observation.”
You turn back to your laptop, sliding your headphones over your ears. “Well, stop observing me.”
”Psh. Gladly.”
His actions are the first thing to betray his words, because he makes the executive decision to sit in the chair directly behind yours. He was sitting so damn close that you could feel the warmth of his skin through his hoodie—which you now notice is thrashed in a few places, as if he had taken scissors to the fabric and snipped away. It was odd, but you managed to look away as he shifted around to fish his own laptop out of his backpack.
Then, before you can finish typing the sentence you’d been working on before he walked in, he beats you to it. Obnoxiously so. His fingers slam against his keyboard with such force you briefly wonder if an elephant from the Linkon City Zoo has escaped and taken up tap dancing behind you.
Your teeth clench. “Can you stop typing so damn loud?”
“Oh, I’m not the loud one here.”
You glance over your shoulder, finding that he was already looking at you, “And that means what exactly?”
“It means that I could probably hear your music if I was three miles away.” With his new heightened senses, that was hardly an exaggeration. He gave you an all-too-charming smile. “Turn it down a few levels, yeah? Thanks.”
The lilt to his voice made you want to set him straight in more ways than one. “You little—”
“New Magic Wand by Tyler, The Creator at 4 AM is crazy work, by the way.”
“Boy, I’ll show you crazy—”
Suddenly, a chipper voice rings through the air. Much to your surprise, it called out your name.
Tara strides in as if you all aren’t up at the crack of dawn, looking incredibly enthusiastic about life, much like she always did. You wish you could inherit whatever will she has to live.
“Hey!” she greets with a wave. She plops down beside you, turning around in her seat so that she could face both you and Caleb at the same time. “Funny seeing you guys here. Are you talking about the fundraiser?”
You blink. “Huh?”
“Why would we be talking about the fundraiser?” he can’t help but question.
“Well,” Tara sings, “my girl here is going to be helping out Delta Gamma with the sorority wash! And you’re going to be helping out Lambda Chi Alpha again this year, right?”
Caleb is almost positive that his heart has just dropped to his ass.
He looks between you and Tara. “What? She can’t come.”
You let out a short, annoyed breath. “And why can’t I?”
And he knows he sounds like a petulant child when he mutters, “It’s my thing.”
“Aw,” you coo, tilting your head with a forced pout. “Is it your thing? Womp womp.”
Caleb rolls his eyes, but you don’t care to see it as you lean toward Tara, lowering your voice as if you were telling her top secret information. “Why didn’t you tell me he would be there?”
“Because if I had, you would have totally refused,” she says matter-of-factly. “And we need you! We can’t let the guys bring in more revenue than us this semester, they held it over our heads for, like… months last time! Plus, I need you to combat him. I swear, he brought in more customers than anyone ever has, it’s no wonder Xavier begged him to do it again.”
You blink. “Are you serious?”
Tara nods.
You can’t help but rub your chin. “I’m surprised anyone paid him for that.”
Caleb glances between the two of you. “I’m sitting right here.”
You glance his way. “We know.”
He lets out a harsh breath. “Look. If you don’t want to see me there, don’t come. Real easy fix.”
You tilt your head, raising a brow. “Why do I have to be the one to cancel? Why can’t you just skip it? You already had your fun last year playing chick magnet or… whatever.”
“I can’t. I already made a commitment.”
“Well, so did I.”
“Perfect!” Tara beams, clasping her hands together. “I’ll see you both there then. This is gonna be sooo much fun, guys! You can probably even get over the little feud you have going on, I swear, it’ll be…”
Caleb can’t even hear the rest of whatever Tara was saying. His mind is too busy short-circuiting over this very dreadful realization.
You’ll be there.
In a bikini top.
Covered in soap suds.
Trying to pass him up yet again.
This was going to be a damn nightmare.

Are requests open? May I request a sylus x wife reader (not the mc) where she is afraid of him and feels like he doesn’t love her cause of his cold and intimidating nature. Then mc arrives and she’s hurt and shocked with how he treats her. Now convinced that he doesn’t love her and hates her she keeps her distance and sits alone everyday on the rooftop. Barely eating anything nor sleeping properly she lost the will and strength to sleep next to him and sleeps on the couch or on the rooftop (after she saw him pin down mc onto the bed ya know that scene) . Even starts to think of packing up and leaving telling herself to “prepare” whenever he divorces her.
But one time she gets kidnapped for bait and injured yet sylus hasn’t come for days so she tells her kidnappers “ it’s a waste of time cause sylus won’t come for me, i mean nothing to him , he was already planning to get rid of me. so you might as well kill me right now and save your breaths.” Not knowing that her husband overheard her when he entered before she passed out due to lack of food and exhaustion.
Did You Ever Love Me?
The day you married Sylus was the happiest day of your life. You had been by his side for 3 years. It wasn't the easy life you had once dreamed of, but this was the reality of the N109 Zone. Nothing was easy, and everything had a price.
You still remembered the day you had first met, what a blood bath that had been. Your family had been one of the most influential in the area. Having long established their authority when it came to weapons dealing. Only supplying top-notch weapons.
From a young age your father had made sure you knew the business, drsminf of having you take over. He taught you everything he knew. From the making of the orders, to quality check, and even materials secured.
That day it was your parents 25th anniversary and a big party was thrown for them. Business partners and friends were all invited to the event.
The only thing your father had not warned you about, was the extensive dangers of the N109 Zone. He'd tried to shield you from just how dirty the world could be.
A rival family had crashed the party with a seemingly endless group of thugs. Before anyone had realized what was going on, gunshots filled the air. People started screaming and running in a desperate attempt to get to safety. Pushing and shoving others out of their way as they went.
A stray bullet hit your arm and blood immediately started pouring from the wound. You grunted as the pain slammed into you and momentarily lost your footing just a another bullet whizzed past the air where your head had been seconds ago.
You heard your father calling your name and pushing through people trying to get to you. You could see your mother sitting on the ground near one of the stairs columns. She was tying a makeshift bandage around someone's leg. Trying to staunch the bleeding.
You felt like your life was running in fast forward as you watched your father continue to push through the crowd and then he suddenly stopped moving as his eyes widened and he looked down. Blood was blooming across the white shirt of his suit and staining the black jacket. In the center of the stain was a hole. You felt sick seing that hole pierced through his chest over his heart.
"Father!" Your scream rang over the gunshots and panic as you tried to run to him. The long him of your dress got stepped on and you fell to the floor landing hard on your side. Pain zipped through your body at the hard smack to the unforgiving marble floor.
You desperately fought to get to your feet as it finally seemed like the crowd was thinning out. Thankfully no one stepped on you or your clothes again. Just as you reached your father the gun shots stopped and the following silence seemed to bring the air of dread.
The scent of blood was strong, making you gag as your stomach heaved. You push the feelings back and reach out to the injury, hands shaking as you try to staunch the blood flow. He grunts with the pressure and his eyes open slightly. You start muttering words but even you don't believe what you are saying.
"It's ok father, we can fix this. I'll get help, the doctor will fix you right up and then everything will be ok." Tears arr pouring down your face as he smiles weakly. He reaches for your face, trying to touch your cheek. Just before his hand can touch you a great force yanks you back.
You scream out at the pain, pulling you scalp. A heavy fist has gripped your hair, yanking the strands hardly and then a voice is in your ear. "I'll blast a hole in your head if you move a muscle." The voice growled near your ear as he tightens his grip on your hair. Your cried our in pain and he just tugged harder, you bit back the second cry as hot tears rolled down your face.
His arm grabbed your hand and forced you to your feet, perking you to face the way he wanted. He kicked the back of your knees forcing you to kneel in front of a man. Tugging your head back as he allowed you to stare at the man clearly responsible for this entire plot.
Fear stuck you as a cold, malicious smile stretched across his heavily scarred face. His eye was like flat steel. No luster or shine to its grey depths. A scar cut through his left eye and down his cheek, going all the way down to his mouth. Burn scars were also intermingled on his face.
His eye itself was an ugly milky color, it held no pupil or iris. On the right side of his face three long jagged scars could be seen stretching from his ear down to his chin. Little tremors went through your body. This man had an overwhelming presence and the sense of evil wrapped around him like a cloak.
"Well, well, well if it isn't the little princess. Your father was careful to hide you away from me. Protecting his biggest weakness. I must say I do admire him for that."
In contrast to his appearance his voice was smooth, a slight rasp clung to his words. Whatever had attacked and scarred him had obviously affected his vocal cords. He worked it to his advantage, speaking in a way that soothed you on the surface. Even if his words were unsettling or foul.
He reached for you, his fingers and thumb just barely brushing your face when a loud caw shattered the silence. With the bird cry black and red mist began pouring into the wide space and the air got heavy. As if gravity itself was pushing down on everyone and everything in the room. The mist covered and hid everything in its path. Blinking you realized you couldn't see the man in front of you.
A deep, suave, sexy voice seemed to come from no where as helped had seemed to arrive. "It seems you did not learn your lesson. I don't mind teaching it to you agiain, Osric." The mist wrapped around him, holding him still. Footsteps tapped across the floor, the occasional sloosh as he stepped in a puddle. Your body shuddered, knowing exactly what liquid he stood in.
It took a few minutes before you realized that the man who had been gripping your hair was no longer touching you, or even anywhere near you.
The mist began swirling into the center of the room, right next to you. Looking into the mist you could just make out a tall silhouette. As rapidly as the mist had spread it was now retreating.
A tall well built man was standing right beside you. Silver hair carefully styled. Red eyes piercing and promising danger. The right one seemed to be glowing.
"You have some guts, touching something of mine, I don't take kindly to thievery. The man, Osric, was hoisted into the air with the mist. He gasped and sputtered clawing at the mist to no avail.
Two men appeared by your side then. One offered his hand, bit you hesitate. Both are wearing black crow masks with subtle red lines on the face of the mask and a red tipped beak. Two red horns poke through the hoods they wear and a gold ring is on one of them. The two are slim and tall, you can tell nothing of their appearance. Clothing and masks make it impossible to discern any identifying features.
The first guy is still holding his hand out to you, he seems neither impatient nor upset that you haven't accepted it yet. Finally seeing no consequence to taking his offered hand you lightly place your palm in his. He gently but firmly grasps your hand and assists you in standing. He let's go after you are steady on your feet and positions himself at your side. The second does the same on your right. Like they are bodyguards.
"Screw you Sylus"! Osric sputters out, still trying to break free of the mist. His fingers are bloody from his efforts to free himself. "Luke, Kieran, see to it that she comes to no harm." The silver haired man says as he squeezes his hand. The mist constricts around Osric further cutting of his air flow completely.
One of the two lightly grabs your arm and spins you around just as a sickening crunch reaches your ears. This kind of thing happened a lot here. Those with power ruled over the weak. It was nothing new.
You had long grown accustomed to the way Sylua dealt with traitors and rats. He did not tolerate disloyalty and gave no second chances.
The events of your parents 25th anniversary party had happened five years ago. You often wondered how your life would have gone if you had never accepted his hand when he gave it. Your father had been supplying weapons to Sylus' organization for years. He'd apparently stuck some kind of deal with Sylus, that had involved your protection.
Sylus had married you, per your father's request and now he owned almost half of your family business. Haven acquired your mother and father's shares. He'd left yours to you.
At first you'd been absolutely terrified of him. His aura radiated danger, almost like he was a living grim reaper. He so often came back to the manor covered in blood. The twins were his direct subordinates. They followed his every command quickly and without hesitation. But at least they had a personality and could provide a sense of calm.
It had taken almost a year before you could approach Sylus without feeling nervous. You hadn't been able to understand your fear of him. He'd posed no restrictions on you, didn't make any ridiculous demands and had never threatened you with harm of any kind.
The turning point had been the day he'd come home injured and concern over his bleeding wounds had overrode the fear. Despite his insistence that he didn't need any first aide treatment, Sylus had not pushed you away or tried to stop you from cleaning his wounds.
After that he began spending time with you and talked to you. Before you knew it you looked forward to when he would come home and just talk to you for awhile. These little gestures and act of kindness had resonated in your heart and little by little you felt yourself falling for him.
He'd granted your request to be touched by him and he spent a night with you. Thinking that he too had given his heart to you, you lived your days believing that he loved you back. That was until she appeared.
In an instant his entire demeanor changed. He made her his top priority. Spending any and all time he had with her. Most nights he didn't even come to your room anymore. His side of the bed was often unspent in.
You hadn't officially met her yet, only seen her in passing. She was beautiful. Long dark hair hung in neat and straight lengths down to her very slender waist. Piercing eyes almost the shade of jade framed by thick dark lashes. She was on the shorter side, even you were taller than she was. This woman held some kind of connection with your husband and the knowledge that your place was very quickly being stripped away gnawed at you from the inside.
Wandering aimlessly through the manor one day you discovered the ladder that lead up to the roof. Even though it was cold outside, you still sat there on the roof. Wondering how long it would be before you were forgotten completely.
Despite the cold and the swirling snow, you dozed off hugging your arms to your sides. What seemed like minutes later you were woken up by a piercing light. The sun was beginning to sting your eyelids, squinting against the harsh glare of the sun's first rays of the day, you tried to sit up straight. Your whole body was numb and cold. It took several minutes to rub feeling back into your fingers.
Carefully moving away from the edge of the roof you stood up. Your legs shook from the movement. Having been in the same position for too long, they had gone to sleep.
You did some light stretches and gradually the shaking and numbing little stings subsided and you felt more sure on your feet.
Finally you made your way to the roof latch, having left it open all night there was a pile of snow at the base of the ladder and it was freezing cold to the touch.
You descended the ladder and walked around the manor. It was quiet, most everyone was asleep at this time. Feeling the desire to see Sylus, you turn around and head to his room. He was usually there at this time. You hesitate at the door. Whenever you'd come to his room he was usually accompanying you.
Just as your about to knock, a voice addresses you from behind. "He's not here, Sylus went out for work. I've been waiting for him to return since last night." Turning around, you see that woman. Feeling angry for a reason you can't quite grasp, you turn around
and storm by her. Purposely bumping into her on the way by. She stumbles but you keep going.
Your sour mood lingers throughout the day killing any appetite oyi might have had. Your wandering leads you back to the roof and you sit in the same spot from the night before.
From your spot on the roof, you can hear his motorcycle approach the manor and you sit their contemplating what to do. Finally after another two hours you head back to his room. When you get there the door is adjacent and you silently push it open. You feel your heart stop.
There on the bed is Sylus on top of her. She's pinned down and it's very obvious what is going on. His naked back is to you and her equally naked leg is wrapped around his waist. Their kiss is intense that you feel your heart break. His hand is twined with hers and pinned above her head. You back away and run down the hall and go to the roof.
Hot tears are streaming down your face as you realized that Sylus had never loved you. He'd just been indulging you for the last several years because you were useful. He could even hate you for all you knew. The one he truly loved was currently tangled with him on his bed.
You feel your heart break further as you realize that with no family or friends you have nothing. You had only ever been useful to Sylus because of you family's business. That was not love and never could be.
You cry yourself to sleep on the roof again, completely defenseless and unaware of the eyes watching you. When you wake up again, there's a dull ache in your head and a ferocious growl in your stomach, but you have no desire to eat or even move.
You sit there watching the stars for what seemed like days. Eventually the sky begins to lighten as the sun begins its ascent across the sky. You continue to sit, even as heavy clouds roll in. Another snowfall is coming, you remembered from the weeks forecast you had read a few days ago. But still you don't move.
It's only when the wind cuts through you, chilling you to the bone that you get up. Once again you rub feeling back into your frozen limbs and head down the ladder. You avoid your room and his. Just the thought of sleeping in a bed you had shared with him makes your stomach turn. Your entire body burns with the feeling if betrayal, but you can neither act on it or alleviate it. The feeling simmers in your stomach driving away the need for food.
Eventually you end up on the couch. The warmth from the fire burning in the hearth slowly warms you up and a drowsy feeling over comes you. Stretching out and pulling the throw down over you, you manage to drift off into a restless sleep.
After what feels like minutes, your body is shaken awake. It's that woman again, hate burns through your veins. You want to tear her apart and rip her to shreds. You glare at everything.
"Hey, the cook said you didn't eat dinner. So I brought you some food" She offers the plate to you. It's all your favorite things. A light fruit salad with beautifully cut fresh fruit and a stack of golden waffles topped with whipped cream and raspberries. Your anger overtakes you and you sit up and shove the plate away from you. She's so surprised at this action that she stumbles back, dropping the plate as she does. The delicate China shatters on the floor as the fruit scattered and the waffles sit there on top of the broken peices.
She looks at you with hurt on her face. "Why did you do that?" She asks just as Sylus enters the room. He looks annoyed at the mess on the floor. Concern overtakes him as he comes closer. Of course none of it is for you, she's the only important one in his eyes. A shard of the plate had bounced of the floor and put a cut on her arm. She had a line of bright red blood blooming out from the slice.
"Did you really think I would accept anything from YOU?" You spit the words at her like venom and stand up. "I know your not so stupid as to be unaware that Sylus is my husband." Your words are as cold as the ice outside. Red blooms across her face as realization strikes her.
You turn to leave the room and just as your about to step into the hall something grabs your arm and yanks you back. Your head whips around and your suddenly face to face with Sylus angry expression.
"She is my guest, you will treat her with respect. Don't lay your hands on her again." You rip your arm from his grasp. "You must think I'm an idiot. She's getting a hell of a lot more than hospitality from you. I owe her NOTHING. She is nothing to me but a sneaky slut that wormed her way into a married man's bed. Both of you disgust me." You storm from the room. As you leave, you take notice of the twins. They are also watching you, but you do not care.
You return to your room and begin to make preparations. You're almost certain now that Sylus hates you. "Divorce is pretty much guaranteed." You say out loud to no one. As you look around the room you realize that nothing in it is truly yours. Everything had been given by Sylus after your marriage. "What a joke I am. I must be the biggest idiot in all of the world. I never should have married him. He was a complete stranger. What a fool!" You kick the dresser in anger, the pain just spurs you on.
After ripping the sheets off the bed and throwing them to the floor your anger had only increased. Grabbing the nearest object, your hurl it to the floor. Feeling satisfied as it shatters. You begin throwing things all over the room. In minutes the neat, beautifully decorated room is in shambles. Glass, sheets, books, jewelry, makeup, and nick-nacks are all over the floor. You turn and leave the disaster you made, making sure to slam the door as hard as you can on your way out. The paintings on the wall tremble from the force.
You storm through the manor headed for the stairs again. You don't recognize the lightheaded woozy feeling that has over come you and you feel dizzy as you reach the ladder that goes to the roof. Halfway up, your foot slips. Before you fall, in a burst of adrenaline you manage to grab the ladder securely. Your heart is beating out of your chest as you cling to the rungs. "That was too close," you mutter taking deep, steady breaths.
Undeterred, you climb the ladder anyway, resolute in seeking peace on the roof once more. It takes a lot more effort to climb up than it had in previous climbs. Your huffing and puffing by the time you manage to get up.
As you walk to the ledge and glance at the snow covered ground below, you realize something is off. The footsteps in the snow are not yours and since it had been snowing for hours, the ones from earlier would have long since been hidden under more snow.
You whirl around ad your mind screams danger. You hands fumble through your layers of clothing to grab the knife you always kept with you. It was a custom blade and designed to attach to your bra. Although it was small, it was very sharp and could easily cut and stab in defense. As your hand manages to grab the handle a figure appears from the top of the roof. He easily jumps down to where you are.
"To think that the infamous wife of Onychinus' boss would be so easy to get to. No bodyguard?" He asks in a taunting tone. The man is dressed head to foot in black. His entire body is covered save for his eyes. Black as a blank night sky and soulless. He points a gun at you. "Drop the knife, or I'll put a bullet in you right here." He says his finger twitching on the trigger.
Having been taught how to fight from a small age, you fein dropping the knife as he moves closer. Just as he's within reach you spin it around and drive it into his upper arm. Unfortunately he was prepared for your tricks and fires the gun. The bullet burries itself deep into your thigh. You cry out and collapse to the ground clutching the wound. Blood seeps between your fingers and down your leg. Falling upon the snow.
"You're going to regret that." The man says as he pulls the blade out of his arm and flings it to the ground. He reaches out and grabs you. You're enveloped in a blinding light and then everything fades away. Sight, sound, and feeling are gone.
It feels like you're floating in darkness for a long time. You struggle to move, bit something is restricting you're movements. A rattling sound is the first thing you can hear as your senses come flooding back. The pain slams into you again and you groan. You realize that you've been blindfolded with a thick cloth.
"She's finally awake. I would really like to know about that blade she stabbed you with. It really did a number on your arm. It must have been very sharp.
"Shut up and just do your job. The boss needs information and she's going to have it. He said do whatever it takes to get it out of her. Just don't kill her." A gleeful cackle made you shudder and then footsteps came closer to you.
"Darkness makes the pain more intense. You will tell me what we want to know." The man says and then you can hear metal being moved around. Your heart begins to race. There is nothing for you to tell them. Sylus had always made sure that you knew nothing of his business and plans. You had only ever overseen the production of weapons. You didn't know their purpose or intended use.
"I imagine I'll get away with it if I do kill you though. Osric was his brother just so you know. Boss has a personal grudge to pick with you and Sylus. This is going to be delicious. Let's begin. We'll start with something easy." He said and then you could feel him standing at your side.
Hours had passed since the torture had begun, but no matter what question he asked the result was the same. You didn't know.
He had tried a variety of methods to break you. The first had been pulling you fingernails our. It had been excruciating and you nearly passed out several times. The he had tried whipping you. Your back was a raw bloody mess from all the cuts. That had made you pass out. His ways of waking you up again were resolute. Dumping ice water on you seemed to do the trick.
Your mind felt like it was going to snap if this went on much longer. Your voice was raspy and hoarse from the hours of screaming and crying. At first you had tried to hold back, but this maniac had taken it as a challenge. Several times he had said you were boring him with your instant responses.
"You're n-not going to-o get any.. anything fro-om me. I have nothing to tell. Even if I wanted to." This was not the first time you had said those words. It's just they fell on deaf ears. "Ju-just kill me al-ready. I I'm useless to yo-ou. He-e doesn't ca-are about me. Ju-just end it already. I-I don't kn-ow anything." This went on for days. You knew time was passing but you had no idea how much until finally a different person entered the room.
"Boss is fed up with you. He wants to know why she hasn't spilled her guts yet. He's tired of waiting for what he wants to know. Can't believe three days and she hasn't cracked once." His voice sounded disappointed and uninterested.
You'd lost count of all the methods they had tried to get you to speak. Several times you had begged him to just kill you but he'd only laughed in response. Sleep had been allowed a few times and sips of water had been given.
They had never removed your blindfold, and you were glad that you could not see what had been done to you. Even if you could feel every injury, being able to see them would have made it ten times worse.
Just as he was getting ready to start again, the door was blasted open. It sounded like it had been ripped right off the hinges. Chaos ensued with whatever had cause the door to explode, and the man started yelling.
"Who the hell are you? How did you get in here?" Crashes followed the words, and then a guttural sputter followed. Seconds later, you felt hands touching you, and you flinched, thinking that more pain would follow. To your surprise, the restraints on your arms and legs were removed, and then someone was carefully helping you sit up. A pair of hands touched the blindfold and then dim light hit your eyes. You screwed them shut feeling that it was painful.
Every part of your body hurt. Stinging and burning sensations were running rampant all over and you just wanted it to end. "We need to move." A familiar voice said in your ear. You open your eyes, ignoring the pain from the light and look at the voice. To your complete surprise Luke and Kieran are by your side.
"We've come to get you. Boss is so angry. I don't want to stick around here." The twins had their usual care free attitude as they watched you. "Why?" You asked looking at the pair. You could sense their confusion. "What do you mean why? You're Boss's wife. Of course he will take back what is his." One of them said as the other drapped a blanket over you and then carefully picked you up.
You grimaced and tried not to show the pain. "M-my leg is broken." You managed to get out between gritted teeth and gasps. They said nothing as they took you out the door.
Having never seen any of the place you were in, you were surprised at the twisting hallways and maze like route that you were taking. But the twins seemed undeterred and walked quickly. Before long there was a heavy metal door in front of you. It was all dented and it looked like an explosion had hit it. The door was already adjar and upon further investigation, you notice that it's hanging off the hinges.
Walking down another short hallway you come up into a large room. With a start you realize that blood is everywhere and there are bodies scattered through out the room. At the front leaning against a table is Sylus. He looks irritated and he has blood spattered on his face. He stands up straight when he sees you and the twins. His gaze hardens as he looks you over.
"Why did you come?" He looks at you blankly, his face giving nothing away. He just looks at you like he's staring right through you.
"Did you ever, even for one second love me?" You ask after several tense minutes go by. He still says nothing. Feeling the unsaid confirmation of what you had thought to be true now a reality you close your eyes against the tears.
A minute later and you open them again. "I am over this. I just want it to end. I don't care about anything anymore. I no longer want anything as I also posses nothing. You can have it all. I just want it to end." After letting go you feel like a weight has fallen off your shoulders. All the hate and resentment you'd felt several days ago has disappeared.
"Take her to the manor and contact the dr." Sylus finally says after many moments. The twins immediately move out. Despite their best efforts you get jostled several times and the pain makes you pass out. You surrender to unconsciousness, thankful to escape for however short a time it will last.
Over the next several months you are confined to bed to allow you injuries to heal. The scarring isn't as bad as you had though it would be, but it extends over most of your arms legs and back. The whip scars will never disappear and serve as a constant reminder to never show your back to anyone.
Eventually the day arrives that the dr tells you all of you injuries have healed and he discharges you from his care. Eight months have passed since that day and finally you are back on your feet. Having packed a bag with a few sets of clothes you grab the strap and the papers you had asked for a few days ago.
Without hesitation you go to Sylus' office and open the door. He is sitting at his desk reading some documents. You walk over and set two things down. One of them reads Transfer of Assets and the other says Annulment of Marriage. Placing a pen on top of it you say resolute "sign them and then you'll never see me again." You take a step back and wait.
He sets the papers down and looks at what you have placed on his desk with a raised eyebrow. "What is this?" You inwardly sigh. "Sinc you do not love me and I have no desire to play second fiddle to anyone else I am not staying. Clearly there is no place for me here. This is to repay the treatment I was given. You owe me nothing and I owe you nothing." You're confidant that with relinquishing your rights to your family's business and everything you endured being at his side will more than repay him.
He appears to be lost in thought as he reads over the papers. "You really want nothing in return?" The only thing you had asked for in the divorce agreement was that he not seek you out and that your paths never cross again. You nod and finally he moves to sign them. You turn on your heel and walk out of the door, out of his manor. This corrupt part of the city and out of his life forever.
A sense of peace washes over you as you get into your car and turn the ignition. Ready to begin your own life.
****************************************************
And thus ends another one. I did make some tweaks to the original plot line I was given because it flowed better in this way. I do hope you don't mind. I stuck to what you gave me as much as possible. I hope you enjoyed this one

I saw that post about what to do if you're homeless again (the one that starts by telling you to spend all of your money on motel rooms lmao) anyway, here's a few thoughts, specifically for trans girls, cuz I don't really care otherwise tbh:
1) plan ahead, most trans girls are in precarious housing situations, you will have a much easier time when it falls apart if you already have a pack with most of the gear you need in it. Also, if you find yourself in a situation where you cant make rent, dont pay part of it, spend that money on gear, pocket the rest and leave, youll have a much nicer time. Look up your local eviction laws, you have plenty of time. (Gear list at the end)
2) travel! If you're in Arizona in May, leave. it's about to be hot as hell. If you're in Michigan in October, leave. It's about to be cold as hell. If you're in a big city, leave. It's way easier to be homeless pretty much anywhere else. Amtrak is cheaper and more comfortable than greyhound, hitchhiking is free and easy, if you're alone it's not that much slower than the previous two, and it's more fun, and sometimes people buy you food or whatever or give you money. I promise it's not scary and you're entirely capable of doing it, no matter who you are. 95+% of people who will pick you up are very nice. All you have to do is take the bus out of town, as far down the highway you can, to an exit with a truck stop if possible, then just stand on the side of the road with your thumb out until someone picks you up. You can stand at the bottom of the ramp(on the highway) near where the merge lane ends or at the top of the ramp(where there's usually a traffic light), the former is more likely to lead to cop interactions but will maybe get you a ride faster, check on hitchwiki for how the cops are in the area. don't be afraid to take a commuter bus or Amtrak to get out of a shitty cop area
3) skip shelters if you can (they are very occasionally a decent place to get stuff from) and encampments, good places to sleep include the trees near railroad tracks or highways, wooded areas behind shopping centers, sections of parks without paths, overgrown empty lots. Hang a tarp above you if there's an appreciable chance of rain, there's tons of YouTube tutorials on how to do this, maybe I'll make a post about what I usually do some day. There are many habits more fun than motel rooms, save your money for them lmao.
4) get on food stamps. This is easier in some places than others, but it makes the whole thing a lot easier. Just tell them you're homeless, if they don't give you a card the same day, you can probably ask to pick it up from that office, alternatively some drop in centers/day shelters can receive mail for you, or you can have it sent to general delivery(USPS service, look it up)
7) libraries are great for charging your phone and using wifi, but also keep an eye out, plenty of random outlets on the outsides of buildings are also powered
5) dumpster. sidewalk trash cans, Aldi, Einstein's, trader Joe's, pizza places, etc. You need to develop a bit of a sense for it but it's an easy way to get cooked food or travelling food or expensive food without spending resources. Also it's fun.
6) water is free, go into the bathroom of any gas station or grocery store in America(offer not valid in most big cities or on the west coast, but in that case just go to the library) and fill up your water bottle
8) hygiene notes: truckers get free showers from chain truck stops(loves, pilot/flying j) go there and ask them. convenient if you're hitchhiking, also you don't need to shower 3 times a day, really, you'll survive. Ditto with deodorant. Take care of your teeth though. Take your socks off every. day. Change them consistently. Safety razors give a good shave, work well without adequate water pressure, and the replacement blades are very stealable, they're kind of heavy though. Walmart makes these electric razors for women that take AA batteries and are pretty light but give a worse shave, also they kinda go through batteries, pick whatever works for you(cartridge razors suck)
9) traveling food notes: peanut butter is great, tortillas and bagels travel pretty well, tuna packets are pretty good protein for traveling(the ones with rice and beans or whatever are nice since theyre often the same price as the regular), condiment packets are free, hot sauce makes everything better, and mayo goes well with tuna and has a bunch of calories in it, salad dressing packets are free from truck stops and work well turning the Walmart shredded vegetable packages (labeled for making into slaw, next to the bagged salads) into a salad with real vegetables(not iceberg lettuce) in it or mixing in with tuna packets for even more calories than mayo
Gear world:
Necessary items(in order of importance): a gallon of water carrying capacity(an Arizona jug or other twist top jug is conventional, but a bladder+arizona bottles also works), a tarp(larger than 6'x9', not brightly colored), a hank of parachord, a sleeping bag (20° rated, synthetic insulation), a backpack with a padded hip belt(at least 50L, no more than 75), rain gear(a rain poncho might cover your pack too, a rain jacket can help with wind when its cold, a trash bag inside or outside your pack can keep it dry, a plan to watch the weather and not get caught also works), a z-fold foam sleeping pad, three pairs of socks, two pairs of underwear (at least one pair of boxer breifs strongly recommended if you arent incredibly skinny), a decent pair of shoes with good arch support, a functional jacket(skip if you got a rain jacket before), a base layer(wool or poly, absolutely no cotton)
Convenient items: a sleeping bag liner(cotton free, keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer), gallon zip locks to pack your stuff in(helps keep it dry and organized), no more than one change of clothes(as light as possible), a multi-tool(can opener, pliers, wire cutter), lighter(burning rope ends etc), spoon, floss and needles for patching

Writing Notes: Eyes Shapes
Tumblr media
There are different types of eye shapes, each with distinct characteristics.
Almond: A defining feature of almond eyes is that the iris touches both the bottom and top portion of the eyelid. Almond eyes also become larger and wider toward the outer portion of the eye. The tear duct and outer end of the eye both come to a point, mimicking the shape of an almond.
Monolid: Individuals with a monolid eye shape do not show a distinct eye crease. Instead, they have a smooth eyelid as the brow comes down to the lash line.
Round: As the name implies, round eyes are consistently round throughout the entire shape of the eye. Individuals with round eyes show the white on the top, bottom, or both sides of their iris.
Protruding: Like round eyes, protruding eyes are large and circular, as the inner and outer corners do not point inward. From a profile angle, protruding eyes appear to be bulging outward.
Downturned: The outer corners of downturned eyes point toward the cheekbones, giving the eye a soft look. Since the outer corners of downturned eyes angle down, the inner corners appear to turn up.
Upturned: The opposite of downturned eyes, upturned eyes angle up in the outer corners. The lift of this eye shape—also called cat eyes—pair well with the cat eye makeup look.
How to Determine Your Eye Shape
To determine your eye shape, you only need a mirror and to follow these steps:
Place a mirror at eye length. Look directly into the mirror with your chin aimed straight ahead. This will position your eyes evenly across the mirror, so you can determine your eye shape.
Locate your crease. Before examining the inner and outer corners of your eyes, look for your eyelid crease. If you have no visible crease, then you have monolid eyes. On the other hand, if you have a distinct eyelid crease, follow the next step to identify your eye shape.
Imagine an invisible line across the center of your eyes. Creating an imaginary line across your eyes will help determine how your eyes fall in relation to the rest of your face. Look at the inner and outer corners of your eyes, and use the line as a guide to see if the corners point up or down. If your eyes turn down, then you have downturned eyes, whereas if your eyes angle up, then you have upturned eyes.
Look at the whites of your eyes. Eyes that do not point up or down but remain straight are either round, almond, or protruding. Continue to imagine a line across the center of your eyes, and look straight ahead into the mirror. If you do not see the whites of your eyes above or below your iris, then you have almond eyes. Round and protruding eyes show the whites surrounding the eyes; however, protruding eyes bulge out of the sockets more than round eyes.
Wide-Set Eyes vs. Close-Set Eyes
You can also categorize the different eye shapes by the distance between each eye. If the space between your two eyes is more or less than one eyeball width, then you also have wide or close-set eyes.
Wide-set: Individuals with wide-set eyes have more space between their left and right eye compared to the average person. Typically, the space between wide-set eyes is more than one eyeball width apart.
Close-set: The opposite of wide-set eyes, close-set eyes have less space between the left and right eye than the average person. The distance between close-set eyes is less than one eyeball width apart.
Makeup Tips for Each Eye Shape
Every eye shape is unique, so applying makeup that best fits your eyes will help emphasize your natural beauty. Use the below tips to highlight different eye shapes:
Almond: Accentuate the outline of your almond-shaped eyes by using a thick layer of eyeliner on the lower lash line. For eyeshadow, blend darker shades in the outer edges of the eye area and lighter, shimmer shades toward the inner corner of the eye. You can also highlight the look of almond eyes by creating a smokey eye, smudging your lower eyeliner and blending your dark and light eyeshadows.
Monolid: Adding eyeliner to the lower and upper lid highlights monolid eyes. Elongate the eyes by creating a cat eye look with liquid liner, drawing the eyeliner past the outer corner of the eyes. For eyeshadow, create a crease by swooping dark eyeshadow across the lid, building the colors vertically toward the brow bone.
Round: You can complement round eyes by applying eyeliner along the waterline and adding mascara to your top and bottom lash lines. For an eyeshadow look, use a dark shade along your crease and light shades across the majority of your eyelid. To create a nighttime look, smudge the outer edges of your eyeshadow into a smokey eye.
Protruding: The key to makeup for protruding eyes is to focus on elongating the outer eye, so the eye appears longer. One way you can do this is by applying dark eyeshadow shades in the outer edges and a light shimmer in the inner corners of the eyes. This will extend the shape of the eye, creating a defined look.
Downturned: Lift downturned eyes by applying a winged eyeliner and layer of mascara across your top lashes. This will create the illusion of a raised, more open eye look. You can also play with your eyeshadow palette, concentrating on adding eyeshadow to the orbital bone.
Upturned: Highlight the natural shape of your eyes by creating a cat eye across your top lids. To create a cat-eye look, hold a makeup brush along the point of the nose to the outer corner of the eye. Use the makeup brush as a guide, applying a thin line of the liquid eyeliner along the edge of the brush to draw an even cat eye along your upper lash lines.
Two Different Sizes
No matter your eye shape, “almost all [people] have eyes that are different sizes,” Bobbi says.
“Especially as we get older, things change. And for some reason, one [eye] might drop sooner than the other. You can adjust. You can make the liner on the smaller eye a little thicker. And that usually balances out.”

need cowgirl vi so bad it’s insane
cowgirl vi headcannons (slightly suggestive!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
-general headcannons
℧ Sports a pair of Lucchese boots and off-brand boot-cut jeans that are snug around her thighs. Of course she wears a belt with an impressive buckle sat snug on the center of her body. MANY worn-looking flannel button-ups, especially when it’s too chilly to just wear a tank top and she needs to layer up.
℧ Her back looks sculpted from hard labor, but her thighs? They're firm with muscle, littered with some stretch marks from growth during her teen years.
℧ Has freckles on her tanned shoulders, which are usually faded during the summer when breaks in horses for extra cash in her white wife-pleaser.
℧ Very extensive vocabulary! Her most used word is "y'all" and "hell", but it's pronounced more like "hail."
℧ Very well-read. Favorite novel that you'd find a typical cowboy reading is Lonesome Dove. She loves The Outsiders, even if it's on the mainstream side of literature. Secretly loves herself some Shakespeare. Much like me, spends hours awake at night trying to find the hidden meanings behind the playwright's words.
"She oinked poison in your ears, and you just ate it!" hamlet reference?
℧ Has a farmdog! A border collie she named Roxie. She spend a few weeks building a nice doghouse beside her own farmhouse for the pup, but is too soft-hearted to make Roxie sleep outside half the time.
℧ More of a southern cowboy than a western. You may wonder the difference, but the accent she has is mostly a cushy drawl than something smooth and slurring.
℧ Has a taste for old black and white shows, like The Twilight Zone and Gunsmoke. You find it boring, but there is a strange comfort in watching your favorite cowgirl doze off in her recliner, boots still adorned with the usual western accent audible in the background, much like white noise in the womb.
℧ Was a horse girl in middle school. Not the type that pretended to be a horse and neigh (though she had a small phase, much to her denial), but rather begged Vander to buy her a horse so she could learn to ride.
"Vi, horses are expensive. Plus, if I let you have a horse, then Powder's gonna want a pony." Vander reminds her for the thousandth time, the conversation a day-to-day routine at this point.
"I know, I know! But I just want one. I don't want a whole ranch, just one." She pleads, already prepared to drop to her knees and beg or do a marathon of chores if Vander so asks.
He sighs, and she holds her breath. Is that a sign of relent...? "Fine. One horse."
And so, Vi was given her very first horse at 11. Vi named her Butterscotch. It took a while to get used to riding, and she even fell off once.
℧ Ended up owning at ranch and her own farmhouse at the age of 23 with the help of funding from her town. Farms do good in southern economies. She was rather well-known around the area for her help with training horses and ponies, as well as being a bullrider at the local rodeos.
℧ Got into plenty of barfights, most she won. Most honorable mention is the time she knocked a 6’5” man out for accusing her of cheating at the bull-riding competitions.
-cowgirl vi x fem! reader headcannons
℧ Really domestic. Loves the idea of having you live with her at her farmhouse, folding laundry together, and stealing kisses from you while you work.
℧ Favorite types of physical touch are having you on her lap and playing with your hair. She'll laugh at the way you call it impractical, but she needs you sitting on her thighs any chance she gets. You can't seriously oppose, though. Not when it feels nice to put on a pair of shorts and feel her bare, warm thighs on the backs of yours. She loves to comb through your hair also, kissing the top of your head as she coos words in that thick accent of hers.
"Had a long day, baby?" She asks, voice thick and dripping like honey. Not seductive or sensual (unless she's in that particular mood), but rather low with the moon in the sky.
You nod, letting out a yawn as you rest your head on her shoulder. The domesticity always feels nice.
℧ Watching her move on a mechanic bull is the worst and best thing that could ever happen to you. You can only watch, very much impressed, as her hips jump to keep up with the movements. Her hair is all messy, stray reddish-pink strands nearly sticking upward. Some of her hair hangs down her tattooed back, and you have to stop yourself from simply screaming at the sight. When she eventually falls off, she comes rushing back to you with a smile that reminds you of a golden retriever's. Like a dog bringing you a bone, it's adorable.
"Did ya see that? A whole two minutes!" She exclaims, laughing nearly hysterically. She abruptly pulls you in for a kiss which you eagerly open up for. This is the best part, when your cowgirl riles herself up on the bull and has what seems to be unlimited energy. And trust me, she gets affectionate with energy.
℧ Taught you how to play pool before you started dating, during that weird limbo of flirting but not official.. Her hand resting on your arm, guiding you. Her voice very audible, as her mouth stays close to your ear.
"Not too fast, just hit it with the stick. Pay attention to where the ball goes." She guides. Your hands are shaking with nerves, and you miss the pocket. She doesn't laugh, though. Instead, she gives your waist a squeeze with her free hand, planting a kiss on your cheek. "That's okay. You still did good for your first time."
℧ Big hickey enthusiast. She loves leaving little love-bites on you, and sucks a few marks on your stomach and thighs.
℧ Uses her winnings from the rodeos to spoil you. She tries to be the gentlemen type, so often she will take you on dates to the diner in town or even drive a few towns over into the city to see a movie in a theater.
℧ Likes when you wear her cowboy hat to go out, it makes her feel oddly possessive. Anytime you need to run an errand, she’ll take off her hat and basically crown you with it. It’s like she’s giving you her hoodie or a t-shirt of hers to wear, except it’s her expensive hat that had a feather on the side of it.

Welcome to the writing community girl!! Can I request a cute Top x Fem!Reader oneshot where you’re Top’s gf and also a very well known dancer in the industry. No one except the boys know you and Top are dating. He’s been on tour with the group for a few weeks now and as a surprise, you teams up with Ji-Yong to visit and surprise him during one of his shows.
Ji-Yong and the boys think it would be hilarious for Top to be taken by surprise on stage so they convince you to join them during their performance of BaeBae. You agree, loving the idea of playfully surprising your man.
It’s the night of the show and you’re so excited. You’ve been dodging places Top might be to avoid getting caught, texting him throughout rehearsal so he thinks you’re still at home. You’re being extra flirty with your texts and he loves it, blushing and flirting right back while the boys tease him and pretend to steal his phone to see what he’s blushing about.
When time comes to perform BaeBae, instead of the dancer Seunghyun is expecting, you jump in and latch on to dance with him, a smirk on your face. You’re swaying your hips a bit more against him than any of the other dancers have and he is SHOCKED.
Think the fans will catch on to your relationship? How will Top react to seeing you and being put on the spot on stage? And what happens when he finally gets backstage and can give you a proper welcome? 😉😌

The steady hum of the jet engine was a soothing backdrop as you leaned back in your seat, fingers tracing over the edge of your phone. Ji-Yong's message from earlier still glowed on the screen:
"Everything’s set. Can’t wait to see his face when he realizes."
You couldn’t help but smile at the thought of Seunghyun’s reaction. It had been weeks since he’d left for the tour, and though you were used to the distance, this time felt harder. Maybe it was the way he sent those late-night texts about missing you or how his voice softened over the phone whenever he said, “I wish you were here.”
Well, you were about to change that.
The plan was simple: arrive at the venue in secret, sneak backstage with Ji-Yong’s help, and time your entrance perfectly. You’d even cleared your schedule, something that wasn’t easy given your packed days as one of the most sought-after dancers in the industry. But for him? It was worth it.
Your legs were bouncing up and down in excitement and you couldn't wipe that stupid grin off your face. Even though you spoke on a call every evening and he texted you as much as he could, it couldn't compare to his presence, his hugs and his gentle kisses on the forehead. It wasn't the same without him, especially since you had to fall asleep without his cuddles every night.
After the plane landed, you got off the plane with a mixture of nervousness and anticipation. Your bag was light, just the essentials for this spontaneous trip, but your heart was pounding with excitement. Ji-Yong had sent you detailed directions on how to get to the venue without being noticed.
As you entered the concert area, the energy was palpable. Fans stood in long lines, their voices mingling in an excited murmur. You pulled the hood of your sweatshirt further over your face so as not to be recognized. No one should know you were here, at least not yet.
You weave your way through the excited crowd, looking at the dirty floor covered in confetti and everything else the fans were throwing around, past the two seemingly trustworthy security men who recognized you immediately and let you through with a smile. As you walked past, you give the two dressed in suits a smile as well, before you went up the small steps, a small red carpet was laid over it before it is rolled out down a long hallway-like corridor.
The deeper you went in, the faster your heart started to beat, sweat formed on your palms and you swallowed hard when you heard the loud voices of your friends. A thin black curtain separated you and what was going on behind it, so your hand carefully reached for the fabric and pulled it slightly to the side to reveal just half of your face, hoping not to be seen by the wrong person.
Slowly your eyes slid through the chaos where stylists were drying and styling the band members' hair, hoping to get it done in the time they had before the performance. An amused smile twisted your lips as you noticed how the guys were just messing around and how Taeyang was swinging his head from left to right to annoy his stylist, a wide grin on his lips.
As if by itself, your eyes searched for a certain person for whom the surprise was planned and they stopped when you saw him sitting in the corner on the black leather couch, his hair already styled into a handsome hairstyle, his elbows resting on his knees as he swiped at his phone in his hand, his lips decorated in a small dimpled smile while his brown eyes gave off a certain sparkle that you could still see well from the distance.
Your own smile spread into a crescent, your previously excited heartbeat slowed down to a calm rhythm at the push of a button and you didn't even notice how all the nervousness left your body as you watched him. It seemed as if your body switched to rest mode as soon as it saw Seunghyun. You couldn't explain how happy you felt, finally seeing him in person again after weeks, and you would have preferred to just forget the surprise you had planned with Ji-Yong and just jump into his arms, but you knew that this wait would be worth it in the end.
Your eyes followed his every move and for a moment you seemed to have forgotten everything else. At least until Ji-Yong appeared behind Seunghyun on the couch, his hip leaning against the armrest as he looked over Seunghyun's shoulder at his phone.
"Aish, you are so whipped, guys he looks at pictures of y/n in his free time!" A laugh escaped him as he ruffled Seunghyun's hair, with Seunghyun leaning forward cursing, his cheeks now barely pink as he placed his phone next to him and adjusted his hair with a grumble. "Shut up!"
Your eyes widened before you placed your hand over your mouth, and you were sure your cheeks were just as pink. You found it cute how obviously Seunghyun missed you and you couldn't wait to talk to him.
But before anything else could happen, Ji-Yong's gaze wandered in your direction and discovered your head hidden behind the thin curtain. His lips began to grin as he pointed a finger at you secretly behind Seunghyun, indicating that you should get away from the curtains.
Your hand dropped loosely beside you as you nodded in agreement, giving a thumbs up before you took a step back and discreetly closed the Curtain in front of you. You looked around briefly and discovered a clothes rail with a coat hanger next to you. You slowly opened the zipper of your black jacket, which was supposed to protect you from being recognized, and slowly took it off before hanging it on a coat hanger. Your light gray, skin-hugging V-neck t-shirt now appeared, the silver chain with a 'T' as a letter, which stood for T.O.P, Seunghyun's stage name, hung flawlessly down between the neckline.
Your hands smoothed down your black miniskirt before you brushed your homemade curls over your shoulders and pressed your lips together to thoroughly spread your pink lip gloss. You felt good about the way you looked, pretty, and could dance well in this outfit too. You weren't worried about what Seunghyun would think of your outfit because first of all, this skirt was one of his favorite things to wear on you and secondly, he always told you that you would look good even in a garbage bag.
But before you could think about anything else, the curtain behind you opened a crack and you turned around in shock. Ji-Yong was already looking at you with a broad grin as he closed the curtain behind him, his right hand on his hip. "You're on time," he said quietly as he pulled you into a secluded area. "Seunghyun has no idea. He's been bugging me all week about how much he misses you."
You couldn't help but giggle softly, your eyes shining with anticipation. "That makes it all the better." You whispered back with a wide grin, your fingertips tugging at the end of the fabric of your skirt, a nervous habit . Well, actually, you would take Seunghyun's hand in yours and play with the rings he wore every day on his thumb, middle finger and ring finger.
Ji-Yong briefly looked at your broad grin, your excitement was transferred to him and he couldn't help but be extremely happy for you and Seunghyun, after all, you were both his friends and he would do anything to see you both happy. He nodded his head, a glint in his eyes as he clapped his hands. "Okay, here's the plan: you stay near the stage until the second song. During the break, I'll take you out and you go straight to him. Trust me, he'll freak out."
Everything seemed even more real now and you could slowly feel the excitement rising in you again, your heart was pounding in your chest and your mouth felt dry, which made you swallow hard as you wiped the sweat off your t-shirt. You were so excited, but what actually made you nervous was the fact that his fans would freak out, especially the female ones, and a wave of rumors would sweep you away.
You knew what a big step you were taking and you also knew that you couldn't just make such a big decision without Seunghyun, because they were still actually his fans. But you had thought everything through carefully and secretly tried to smuggle this topic of 'bringing the relationship into the public eye' into conversations between you. You would never take this step without Seunghyun's permission and he had told you often enough that he was ready when you were and that after two years of a secret relationship he wanted to tell the world who he was proudly with.
But it hadn't really happened yet, so you decided that today would be a good time to do it. Well, at least that's what you hoped. But with all the support from the guys, you were sure you were doing the right thing and you had a very good feeling about it.
"Got it."
And so here you were, near the stage, hidden among the crowd, your eyes fixed on Seunghyun, who was holding the microphone sideways in the air, the tip of the mic placed near his mouth as he sang his part of the song 'BLUE'. His deep voice vibrated through the speakers, sending goosebumps up your arms.
The show was in full swing and the energy in the arena was electric. Fans were screaming, singing along, and the lights were dancing to the beat of the music.
Without realizing it, your lips moved to the lyrics he sang, nothing more than a soft whisper, a small smile on your lips and your eyes focused on no one else but him. As your eyes followed every little movement he made, it felt like you two were the only people in the room, like he was singing the song just for you, because secretly you knew that it was actually only directed at you. He has confessed to you many times that he's thinking about you in every song he sings and imagined that you were the only one listening to him.
Your body was burning like fire, partly because of the cold, but also because the surprise was about to begin any minute, when Ji-Yong spotted you in the crowd and pointed his head back to the backstage. A lump formed in your throat as you exhaled shakily before you set off, nodding to yourself while encouraging yourself.
Before you got ready for the performance, you grabbed your phone again to send Seunghyun one last message to make him believe that you missed him from home.
"I miss you so much Tabi, it's so lonely without you here. I'm watching you from the TV, you're amazing!"
Grinning, your eyes watch the three dots in the corner, which meant that he texted back immediately, knowing that the first performance was now over and they were getting ready for the second one.
"Oh Jagiya... I miss you so much, you can't even imagine. I hope the day ends quickly so I can hear your voice on the phone tonight. The second performance is starting now, wish me luck ♡"
You slowly bite your lower lip to stop yourself from grinning. You felt silly, like a teenager who had just fallen in love. But at the same time you could hear your heart pounding so loudly, you were sure the others in the next room could hear it too.
The next moment you heard the transition into the second song, and that was your signal. The stage was briefly plunged into darkness while Seunghyun and the others changed positions for the next part. The crew quickly helped you into position - right behind one of the props so you were invisible. No one except the guys and the crew knew you were here. There was no turning back now.
When the light returned, you heard Ji-Yong's voice rapping the first words of his part. The fans immediately started singing along loudly and the dancers next to you started dancing their choreography. You, a professional dancer, of course knew the koreo, due to many dance practice in which Seunghyun had dragged you along and asked you to help with a few dance steps. Of course, you had the koreo down immediately and moved your hips in sync with the rhythm and with the other dancers, who gave you a smile while doing it.
Your hair swung with each smooth movement as you danced the steps with passion, with each step your movements became more confident and slowly but surely the nervousness disappeared as quickly as it had come. Your breathing was rapid as you danced each movement with precision, while your gaze slid to Seunghyun, who stood unsuspectingly with his back to you, occasionally doing one of his silly dances and singing into his microphone when his part came.
His presence on stage was as overwhelming as ever, but you could see the slight tiredness in his eyes. You knew the tour was exhausting for him and that was exactly why you were here.
A broad grin spread across your face as you stopped for a moment as the main part of the song came, the part where each of the boys would dance with one of the back dancers, but in which you would replace the partner that was for Seunghyun, who was already looking at you with a broad grin, both thumbs up.
You breathed out deeply before squeezing from the back corner to get to the front like the other girls, you heard your heart pounding loudly as the spotlights shine on you, you sneaked up on Seunghyun from behind before you grinned broadly and stroke your shoulder with his to stand with your back in front of him, pressing yourself firmly against his chest and immediately swinging your hips from left to right in time.
Instantly, Seunghyun's eyes widen in shock, his lips part a crack, a shaky breath escaping him as your right hand reaches behind you to cup his neck, your head pressed against his chest as you continue to move in time, forcing him to move in sync with you as your sweet scent fills his nose.
In an instant his hands moved from behind your hips to your front, to your stomach, his touch slow and gentle, causing your body to relax further into him and goosebumps to spread throughout you. Slowly but surely he pulled you even closer to his body, so that you could feel everything from him behind you, your eyes closed and you tilted your head back more, giving him a complete view of your face.
"Jagiya." He breathed shockingly, but still with a hint of something loving underneath as he buried his face in your neck, not stopping swinging his hips in sync with yours as his lips brushed against your soft skin, his warm breath making you exhale shakily as you opened your eyes to look up at him. When your eyes met, the world seemed to stop. Just you and him. Just you. You drowned out the screaming fans completely as they saw how closely Seunghyun was dancing with his dancer, knowing that he normally didn't like touching and always sought distance, but not knowing that it was you and that he loved nothing more than your touch.
His eyes sparkled as he looked down at you and his touch tightened around your hips. He was afraid that he was dreaming and that he would soon wake up again and you would no longer be there, but alone at home, waiting for him. But when your scent filled his nostrils and you pressed your hips tighter against his, and when you looked into his eyes as your lips curved into a small, sweet smile, he knew that you were really there. You had come all the way here, just for him, and were really here on stage with him. It was all real.
"Shh..." Was your answer, only he should hear it, the loud music drowned out everything and slowly you pulled away to stand next to him, your hand pressing against his chest, a soft touch as the beat changed and the next part continued. You continued to swing your hips, only now no longer with him but next to him.
His body leaned forward a little after the loss of contact, his upper body tingling, longing to feel you again. Sweat ran down his back as his eyes followed your movements, the loud music blared in his ears, but he seemed to forget everything else for a moment as he let his hand with the microphone fall beside him, his full attention focused on you as your hands pressed harder against him, forcing him to move his hips in time with you.
Without breaking eye contact, you continued dancing in sync, the bubbling tension so high you could cut it with scissors and each one of you could surely feel it. Seunghyun's breathing became shallow as he clenched the fingers that weren't holding the microphone into a fist, tickling and tempting to touch you, so instead he held them in the air and swung them to the beat to appear more relaxed and so no one would notice how shaky his knees became when your hand slowly and unobtrusively stroked his chest for a brief moment before you slowly walked away from him as the next beat changed and the partner dance was over.
Without breaking eye contact, you walked backwards back to your position as he took a step forward, almost forgetting that it was his turn to sing next before he stopped. His breathing was heavy and his entire body was covered in goosebumps like a blanket. He licked his dry lips as he watched you move your body smoothly, dancing the dance steps with care and precision before he slowly held the microphone up in the air at an angle before singing his part in his deep voice without even looking away from you.
Your eyes close as your hands run down your body, your hips moved passionately to the beat and your breathing became heavy as you remembered his hands on you just seconds ago, your body on fire as you do everything you can to keep from losing your composure.
Seunghyun, still hypnotized by the sight of you, your appearance, simply by you, seemed to forget his text for a split second as he stumbled over his words, before he forced himself to look away from you with pink cheeks as he moved his hands up and down in rhythm, at the same time as the clapping of the crowd, who seemed to have forgotten the little incident for that brief moment, as Daesung took over his part when he saw the overwhelmed look in Seunghyun's wide eyes.
The crowd went wild while the other boys watched in amusement as Seunghyun tried to regain his composure. When the beat finally dropped at the end and the lights went out, the clapping and screaming really started.
But Seunghyun finally ripped the in-ear monitors out of his ears, his heart pounding as he wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand before blindly making his way back to you in the dark and chaos. He squeezed through some of the back dancers with a quiet apology before finally arriving in front of you. His eyes wide as he looked down at you, a bit taller than you, his breathing heavy, almost as heavy as yours after all that dancing.
An excited giggle escaped you without you being able to stop it as his large, warm hands reached for yours, his fingers wrapping around yours and a warm tingling sensation ran down the back of your neck. You have waited so long for this moment and now the time has come.
"Aish, it's really you. Gosh, y/n, I've missed you so much." He didn't wait for an answer, he pulled on your hands, let go of one briefly to push open the large curtain for the two of you, before he pulled you backstage, further to a white door with his name written there in black. Without hesitation he opened it and you didn't even have time to take a closer look before he had already closed the door behind you and pulled you into his arms.
You blinked in surprise against his warm chest as his arms wrapped tightly around your chest. He carefully took a few steps forward and gently closed the door behind you with one hand on the back of your head. Your body relaxed in a second as your hands slowly moved up his back. "Surprise, I guess." You whispered with a small smile against his chest, your eyes automatically closing and your heart settling into a relaxed rhythm.
Seunghyun's lips, pressed against your scalp, twisted into a wide grin, his breathing shallow and the tension on his body completely gone. "You sure did, surprise me, Jagiya." His hand on your back circled with his index finger little hearts on your t-shirt, a sign to say 'I love you'.
"That was the goal." With a smile you pressed a small kiss on the cotton of his sweater, while he exhaled deeply with a dimple smile.
He slowly lifted his head, his brown hair tickling your forehead as he pressed his forehead against yours, your lips brushed and his breath warm breath ran over lips like a warm breeze, and your lips opened a crack when you saw that warm look in his eyes. He swallowed hard as your fingertips slid up his arm, to his chin, which you gently grasped. Your index finger slowly ran over the edge of his chin, his eyes closed for a second, and he broke the minimal distance between you.
You let your body fall into his when you could feel his soft, warm lips on yours again after such a long time. Your eyes closed automatically and a sigh of pleasure escaped you. Your body tingled from head to toe as he moved his lips so lovingly and gently against his. His rhythm was passionate, yet pleasant. You couldn't get enough of the way he kissed you, the way he touched you, the way he treated you. He was addictive. You were so addicted to him and you never wanted him to stop.
His scent hit your nose and your whole body relaxed, just like his. As your fingers slowly ran along his shoulders, you noticed how all the stress and tension left him as he devoted himself completely to you. You couldn't help but smile against his lips as your hands slowly moved up his neck to his brown hair before you gripped tightly and could clearly feel the goosebumps on his neck. Something between a sigh and a moan escaped him, muffled by your lips.
His hands moved slowly and carefully along your body, in some places more than others, before finally reaching the bottom of your thighs. He easily grasped them and lifted you up, your legs automatically closing around his waist, the distance between you only decreasing further. A gasp of surprise escaped you and he took the opportunity to slowly push his tongue into his mouth.
You hadn't even noticed how he had walked a few steps with you in his arms until he carefully placed you on the table with all the skincare products, his hands resting flat on your thighs. You felt his fingertips slowly glide up your skin before he stopped his two fingers just before your miniskirt and moved them underneath, which caused a tingling sensation in your pelvis. Panting, you slowly pulled away from his lips, where you immediately noticed how he tried to follow your lips.
His hair was now messy and his lips were a little swollen, smeared with the pink lip gloss you had previously worn on your lips. He slowly licked his lips to taste the strawberry flavor and a sound of pleasure escaped him.
You bit your own lip as you looked up at him. "So what are you gonna do with your surprise now?"

pairing: spencer reid x reader
set sometime in early s2; you get stuck sharing a room with your favorite boy genius who absolutely cannot know that you have feelings for him. and also, there’s only one bed. fluff, f!reader (i think there's only two usages of gender markers)
word count: 4.7k
notes: this is a rework of a very old fic i used to have up on ao3. i'm thinking i'll do more of these, i've got a few spencer fics in the vault and it was fun to rework this and see how my style has changed :)
Tumblr media
You shivered against the cold desert air. Twirling a keyring around your finger, you headed for the door marked 3. You were exhausted from the day and so, so ready to collapse into bed as soon as you got inside your room.
You turned the key in the lock while Spencer waited behind you. It was late, and you and the team had pulled into a motel for the night, having been dragged out to a tiny rural town by the unsub after days of tracking him through surrounding areas. He’d been apprehended, finally, and handed over to local police around midnight. You all had decided it best to spend the night before driving back into town in the morning for take off.
So here you were, at one of those single story motels that still used actual keys instead of key cards. Given the time of night, you knew vacancies would be scarce, so you’d already expected to have to double up on rooms. Gideon had stayed behind at Quantico, leaving Hotch and Morgan in one room and JJ and Prentiss in another, with you and Spencer sharing the last room. You’d hung back while JJ got everything figured out with the concierge (who was just a bored looking kid posted at the desk), and then she’d passed you your key with its little keyring attachment listing the room number and you all bade each other goodnight.
You’d been on the team nearly a year already, but you were still the rookie compared to everyone else. Even Spence had two years on you. But seeing as you two were the youngest, and the least inclined toward the more physical parts of your job– the chasing, tackling, firing your weapon parts– you were paired off with him more often than not.
You weren’t complaining. You’d come to know Spencer pretty well, and you didn’t feel much apprehension at the thought of sharing a room with him for one night.
That is, until you opened the door.
“Oh,” you said involuntarily.
"There's only one bed,” Spencer said.
“Sure looks that way.”
"At least it's a queen?"
There was a brief pause before you both started speaking at the same time.
"Maybe we can go back to the concierge–" Spencer began.
"I mean, I guess I don't really–"
"–although, JJ did say we got the last–"
"–mind as long as you–"
You cut yourself off this time. It’s not like there was another good option, unless one of you wanted to sleep in the car. "This is fine?" it came out as a question rather than a statement.
"I think so? I wouldn't want to– to make you uncomfortable or anything."
"This is fine," you repeated, more sure of yourself this time. “And you don’t make me uncomfortable.”
It was only kind of a lie. You trusted Spencer with your life, of course. But he also made you nervous. He was sweet, kind, always seeming genuinely interested in anything you had to say. And of course, anyone could see that he was attractive. You were developing feelings for him, and in a job where your coworkers and your crush himself were all adept at reading people, it really wasn’t a good position for you to be in. You just hoped Spencer was as oblivious with women as Derek made him out to be.
"We should get out of the doorway," Spencer suggested, and you realized you'd been standing in the threshold this whole time.
"Right."
The two of you walked in, Spencer closing and locking the door behind you. It was a modest room in a tiny town; your standard ugly-patterned, faded bedspread draped over the queen bed in the center, a window looking out into the parking lot, and a dresser that didn’t even have a TV on top of it. You headed straight for the bed, sitting on the edge and removing your shoes while Spencer stood by with his hands in his pockets.
"You know, if it's a problem I can sleep on the cou– uh, the chair," Spencer offered, looking back mid-sentence and realizing that the only additional furniture this motel offered was one rigid looking armchair by the window.
"No, you're not doing that."
"What?" he asked, taken aback by the quickness of your response.
"You're not sleeping in that chair. It looks horribly uncomfortable and I’m sure it’s never been cleaned, and I know how you’d feel about that.”
Spencer grimaced, not having thought about that particular detail. “Yeah, but, I mean… I’d do it for you.”
God, why did he have to say stuff like that? Like you were something special. And why now, when you were stuck in the same room with him until morning? It probably didn’t even mean the same thing to him as it meant to you. He was one of the most caring people you’d ever met. He’d probably say that to any one of you on the team.
Or maybe sleeping in a chair meant nothing to him at all. Maybe he actually didn’t want to share the bed with you and that’s why he was trying so hard to avoid it.
Ugh. You just wanted this day to be over. It was late, the case had been a week long, and now you were probably in for a fun night of overthinking and second guessing when you’d been expecting silence and easy, dreamless sleep.
Okay, maybe that last part was never really an option, but still.
“Look,” you sighed, “I know this isn't an ideal situation but there's a perfectly good bed here, so let’s just share it. If you’re okay with that. It's just one night and tomorrow we'll be back home and nobody has to know about it."
You had to fight from squeezing your eyes shut in regret. You wished that had come out differently. You chanced a look at Spencer, realizing that you’d been staring down at the faded carpet pattern while you spoke.
The look on his face was one you hadn’t seen before, and you almost couldn't place it. He seemed sort of disappointed. Disappointed that he had to share a bed with you? Or that you'd made it sound like you didn't want to share a bed with him? Nope, you could not go down that road tonight. You shook your head once as if it would clear the thoughts from your tired mind.
“I’m okay with that," he said, casually enough that you could almost convince yourself that you’d just imagined the look on his face before. "So, do you want the shower first, or...?" Spencer asked.
"No, I can wait, you go ahead," you said. You desperately needed the moment to yourself anyway.
You started rifling through your bag for pajamas, toiletries, and your charger as an excuse to look busy while Spencer made his way into the bathroom with his things. As soon as the door closed behind him, you flopped back on the bed, staring up at the ceiling as if it might hold all the answers.
Spencer couldn't know about your feelings. For one thing, you were pretty sure there was a rule against dating your colleagues in the BAU. If not, there probably should be. You were such a close knit team, and if anything went wrong… you couldn’t imagine how difficult that would be. But then, the evil and uncooperative part of you also couldn’t help but think that things might go right.
From the beginning of your time at the BAU, you’d been drawn to Spencer. It just kind of made sense. You’d gotten through school at an accelerated pace– though not as quickly as him, the man was on another fucking level when it came to academics– and you were one of the only people who found his fact dropping actually interesting, often asking him follow up questions. He’d looked adorably shocked the first few times you’d done that.
He listened intently to your passionate rants about your favorite films and tv shows, even though he hadn’t seen any of them. When the two of you had discovered a shared interest in mythology and folklore, Hotch nearly had to separate you so you would actually get some work done. It was like you were a kid in school again, and you might’ve been embarrassed if you didn’t find it so funny, if you weren’t so giddy at the idea of a friendship that could make you feel like a kid again.
Spencer understood you in a way that other people didn’t, laughing at your jokes even when they didn’t land for anybody else. When people interrupted or spoke over you, he always paid attention, and in situations where you were trying to add details to the profile he’d bring the conversation back around to you.
Throughout your life you’d learned– through painstaking trial and error– to fit in pretty well in most any group you found yourself in, but you’d always considered yourself to be a little weird. A little too different. But when you were with Spencer, you felt like you didn’t have to try so hard. You could both be a little different, together.
Spencer opened the bathroom door then, startling you. You’d been so lost in thought you hadn’t even noticed the water turn off. You looked over to see him wearing a loose white t-shirt and pajama pants, his hair still damp. And now you knew what Spencer looked like fresh out of a shower. And of course it was endearing as hell.
“If that’s how you’re planning to sleep,” Spencer began, referencing how you were laid out in the dead center of the bed, your arms fully outstretched and hands hanging off the mattress, “then I think we might have a slight problem after all.”
You walked out of the bathroom a short while later, dressed in your usual sleepwear of shorts and an oversized shirt. You’d put your hair up in a bun to protect it while you showered, and now it hung loose around your shoulders. You simultaneously wished your outfit was cuter and uglier; knowing your giant t-shirt wasn’t flattering your figure while also feeling like you had too much skin exposed. Not that it mattered. You were just going to get some sleep and then wake up in the morning and head home. Everything would be back to normal.
Spencer’s in bed already. He’d turned off the big light while you were showering, the lamps on either side of the bed casting him in a softer, warmer glow. He looked up from his book to find you standing there, and the soft, familiar look in his big brown eyes had you rooted to the spot.
“Hey,” he said softly, patting the space next to him in invitation.
You conceded, finding your legs again and sliding into bed beside him. “Hey.”
He fidgeted with the pages of his book, ultimately shutting it closed on his index finger to mark the page. “So, uh, are we okay?”
“Yeah, of course,” you answered genuinely, feeling bad that your internal struggle had manifested in a way that worried him.
“Okay, cool,” he said. He paused long enough to let you explain if you wanted to, another invitation. You knew he wouldn’t push it if you didn’t offer something up. You wanted to give him an explanation, but you couldn’t bring yourself to.
“Sorry,” you managed.
“For what?”
“I don’t know… acting weird, I guess. It’s just been a long day.”
“Oh, well, you don’t need to be sorry about that. You’re always weird.”
Your mouth dropped open as you looked at him. “Look who’s fucking talking,” you scoffed. Some of the tension dropped from your shoulders, glad he hadn’t questioned you further.
“Language, please,” he held up a hand to stop you. “I’m delicate.”
“Wha–?” you let out a surprised little laugh. “You’re an idiot!”
“Yeah okay, tell that to my I–.”
“Oh, my IQ of 187,” you finished for him, rolling your eyes. Even that was full of endearment. “God, you are so annoying.”
“Hm. Y’know, this might be a long night for you. I’d hate to keep you up with my annoyingness.”
“I feel like you could’ve come up with a better word than annoyingness, Mr. 187,” you tilted your head where it rested against the headboard, looking up at him.
“Oh, she’s being a smartass now!” he split into a surprised grin, and you could swear your heart skipped a beat.
“You just said ass.”
“Wow. How quickly you’ve corrupted me.”
“Right, of course. It’s my fault.”
“I knew you’d agree.”
“Shut the fuck up,” you laughed.
Things felt a little bit more normal after that, joking around with Spencer like you normally did made the rest of the night feel less daunting.
Shortly after that, the two of you agreed that you should get some sleep, each reaching over to turn out the light on your respective sides of the bed.
You let yourself sink into your pillow, the exhaustion you had been feeling giving way to a hyper awareness of Reid’s body next to you. You were kept awake, completely overcome by the foot of space between you and Spencer; the consequences of crossing that space, the way it might feel, the curiosity over whether he was laying awake too, thinking the same thoughts as you. Even with that foot of space separating you, you could feel his body heat. You longed to move closer to him, to touch him, to let his warmth seep into you and lull you to sleep.
But you didn’t, and you wouldn’t, because this was just an unfortunate booking mishap. It didn’t mean anything. Tomorrow it would be over, and you could more easily go back to hiding your feelings from everyone else and yourself.
Eventually, exhaustion won out.
You woke what could’ve been a few minutes or a few hours later, the sky still dark. You couldn’t tell what exactly had woken you up, only the sense that you’d moved, almost like you’d fallen. But fallen from what?
You blinked in the dark, the street lamps in the parking lot providing enough residual light to keep the room from being pitch black.
Reid was sitting up. He must’ve bolted upright, you thought. Had that been what moved you? Were you lying on him?!
“Hey, you okay?”
“Sorry. Just a nightmare,” he said as if it was nothing. “Sorry to wake you.”
“What was it about?” you ignored his apologies, sitting up as well.
“I don't really even remember,” he breathed, almost like it was funny. “Just having a physiological reaction to whatever it was, I guess.”
You had nightmares too, of course. You all did. You hated remembering them, but you also hated the times when you woke up in the dark, dazed and inexplicably scared. Without thinking, you reached for his hand.
He turned to look at you then. “I really didn't mean to wake you,” he reiterated.
“I figured,” you smiled slightly. You noticed his breathing was just a bit too fast. You rubbed your thumb over the back of his hand, leaning over to rest your weight against his side, your head on his shoulder. His nervous system would regulate itself quicker this way.
“You were on my pillow, by the way.”
“What?” you ask, your head jerking back from him.
“I totally called it. You rolled right into the center of the bed in your sleep. Total bed hog.”
“Hey!” you protested, pulling your hand back from his in embarrassment. So you had been lying on top of him. Or at least really close to him. His hand chased after yours, finding you again.
“That wasn’t me complaining about it.”
“Oh,” was all you could think to say back.
It was quiet for a minute. You let your head fall back onto Spencer’s shoulder, but your heart raced in your chest.
“Can I ask you something?” he questioned, his tone becoming more serious.
“Oh– of course,” you answered, your brow creasing.
“What did you mean when you said ‘it’s not ideal’ and ‘nobody has to know about it’?”
“Wh– I– Spencer, come on.”
He didn’t give you an out this time. Just waited for an answer.
“I don’t even really know,” you sighed.
“I believe you’re being partially truthful about that.”
“Don’t profile me.”
“I’m not. I just know you.”
You sighed. “You know, sometimes I hate that stupid memory of yours.”
“I don’t need an eidetic memory to remember that. It was a weird thing to say, and it happened like four hours ago.”
“You’re guesstimating. And it wasn’t that weird.”
“Maybe not, but the way you said it was. And you’re avoiding my question.”
You continued to avoid it, biting down on your bottom lip.
“And you stuttered when I brought it up.”
“I told you to stop profiling me.”
This time, he just hummed in response.
“And so what if I stuttered?”
“Stuttering is usually more my thing. A nervousness thing.”
Maybe this was actually your nightmare. Maybe you’d wake up soon and none of this would’ve been real, and you wouldn’t have had to explain to Spencer that the reason you’d had an attitude was because the situation tonight had made it harder to hide your feelings from him. Big feelings that became a lot harder to ignore when he was this close to you, still holding your hand, the mix of scents from his detergent and deodorant clouding your judgment. Of all the embarrassing scenarios that you could’ve imagined playing out tonight, this was very high up on the list.
“I said ‘it’s not ideal’ because it’s not, just by definition. We were supposed to get a double room and we didn’t. Not ideal. And I said no one has to find out because I can already see Morgan having a field day with it and I know the exact expression that’ll be on his face–”
“The eyebrows,” he nodded, lips pursed.
“And then everyone else will get in on it and I just figured…” you sighed. “I don’t know. I didn’t want to deal with that.”
“That all makes total sense.”
“Good,” you breathed. Too relieved.
“Now tell me the rest of it.”
“God, Spencer–” you huffed out, frustrated. He knew you too well.
You wanted to run. Maybe you could go sleep in the car after all. And then ignore Spencer for the rest of the day, and then the year, and your life, and–
“Don’t make me say it,” you breathed. This had to be a dream.
“But there is something to be said?” he questioned, his tone hushed, almost reverent.
It was just vague enough. You could pretend it was nothing.
“Yes.”
You felt like you’d just blown your life up with one word.
Spencer took a deep breath, your body cresting and falling with the movement of it.
“You make me feel better about being myself,” he confessed.
You shut your eyes. You had a constricting feeling in your throat suddenly, and the awful realization that you might cry.
He spoke again, because you couldn’t. “I haven’t always felt good about it, you know? And then you joined the team, and, well– you changed a lot of things for me. And you’re beautiful, obviously, and I was scared to mess up what we have, because it’s special, I think–”
“It is.”
“–and then you started freaking out when you saw the bed,” he was smiling now, you could hear it, “and I thought, maybe it wouldn’t be so crazy… maybe I could make you feel that way too.”
“You do. Of course you do. I feel like I can be my full self with you. I don’t know that I’ve ever felt like that before.”
Spencer laughed, a little delirious giggle, and squeezed your hand in his. You’d managed to avoid crying, thankfully, and you grinned along with him, looking down at your joined hands as you squeezed him back.
Things seemed to still for a beat, the two of you sitting with this moment and letting it stretch out. You still couldn’t really believe this was happening. You might have to tell Spencer to pinch you.
“So what does that mean for us now?” you asked.
“Well, for right now at least, I think it just means that we can go back to sleep without overthinking things into oblivion.”
“I was not–”
“Okay, this time I am profiling you, and you’re lying,” he cut you off, his smile still evident.
“Oh, this was such a mistake.”
He continued like you hadn’t spoken, laughing a little as he went. “I could practically hear it. It’s like, you know when a computer is trying to use too much processing power and the fan starts whirring really loud? Like that but just like right next to me, like tangible—“
“Okay! Thank you so much, I actually totally got it, you can stop now.”
He laughed, and your cheeks warmed.
“For the record, I meant we could both stop overthinking.” Then he shifted a little, facing you a bit more. With the hand that wasn’t holding yours, he brushed a strand of hair from your face, a fake pout on his lips. “Sorry I make you nervous.”
You cackled at that, if it was possible to cackle in hushed tones. “Oh, I bet you are. Besides, I know you like me now, so you’ve lost that card.”
“Are you certain of that?”
“Certain that you like me or certain that you can’t make me nervous?”
“The latter. I do like you, if that was unclear.”
Your heart sped up, contradicting you as you answered, “Then I’m certain you can’t make me nervous.”
He titled your face up to his then, using his index finger underneath your chin to make you look at him. “You’re an awful liar.”
You just shrugged, watching triumphantly as Spencer’s gaze fell to your lips. “It’s been working out pretty well for me so far.”
“I guess it has,” he murmured, closing the distance between you and finally kissing you.
After so many months of imagining (and berating yourself for imagining) what Spencer’s lips might feel like on yours, you weren’t disappointed.
For once you didn’t have to think at all, the chemistry between you and him drowning out everything else. His hand fell to your waist, and yours moved to the curve of his jaw, pulling him closer as his mouth moved against yours. Your teeth grazed his bottom lip and he gasped, and your skin felt like it was lit up from the inside.
You pulled away to breathe, and to process, and to try and stop your head from swimming. You were rewarded with the awestruck look in Spencer’s eyes as he opened them again.
“Okay, was it just me, or–”
“That was crazy,” you breathed.
“Crazy,” he agreed.
“Spence?”
“Yeah?”
“I don’t think we’re getting back to sleep tonight.” Your eyes widened at the implication of saying those words at that time. “Not, like, in the sex way, though,” you hurried to correct yourself. “I need like, 4-5 business days to process things first, and I– well, I just meant, like– you know?”
Spencer was nodding at you even as his eyebrows pulled together in a frown. “Can I still kiss you during those 4-5 business days?”
“Oh, yeah,” you said, sounding breathless.
“Cool,” he agreed. “You seem really nervous, by the way.”
“Well, you kissed me.”
“I did.”
“How were you not nervous?” you breathed.
“Oh, I was. Your reaction is making me feel a whole lot better about it though.”
You scoffed half-heartedly. “I do so much for you.”
“You do,” he replied earnestly, letting go of your hand to wrap his arm around your shoulders as he pressed a kiss to your forehead. “We could lie back down, if you want. Like we were before I so rudely woke you up.”
“Yeah, I’m super mad about that,” you joked. “Anyway, I was asleep for that, so you’ll have to show me what I was doing.”
He seemed all too pleased to do so. “Okay, so you were basically like,” he leaned back against the pillows, pulling you down with him, moving his hand to the side of your head to guide you to the place where his shoulder met his chest, “Like that, and then your arm was over here,” he picked up your arm and guided it around his waist.
“Oh god, that’s so embarrassing,” you said, realizing that he must’ve been awake when you’d done it.
“Yeah, I know. Really terrible time for me.”
“I can imagine. I can scoot back over to my side of the bed, just say the word.”
“Don’t you dare,” he said, squeezing you closer.
You trailed your fingers up and down his waist, feeling more content than you had in ages.
“I can’t believe you’d suggest that I would have sex with you right after confessing my feelings. Like, take me to dinner first at least.”
“Oh my god,” you half-exclaimed, half-laughed. You felt your cheeks heat up again, grateful it was still too dark in the room to be noticeable. “You’re right, I’m so sorry. How’s next Friday?”
“Hmm, I don’t know. My work schedule is kind of unpredictable. I’ll have to get back to you.”
“You’re such an ass.”
A few short hours later, you were back on the jet with the rest of the team. You were lying on the couch while Spencer sat in a seat one row up and across from you, both to avoid suspicion and so you could try to catch up on sleep. He sat facing away from you, but with the angle you were at you could still see one side of his face if you tilted your head up.
You were just beginning to fade when your phone buzzed next to you.
Spencer: I have to tell you something, coworker to coworker.
You looked up to see him blank faced, looking down at the book in his right hand, holding his phone in the left.
You text back: okay?
Spencer: My crush asked me out last night.
You’re exceptionally glad no one was sitting close enough to see you. Spencer had caught you off guard, and you felt an infatuated grin spreading across your face.
You: what did u say?
Spencer: Wanted to get your opinion first.
You: i think u should say yes, obviously.
Spencer: Idk, I’m kinda nervous. I think she’s trying to jump me on the first date.
You just barely managed to refrain from laughing out loud. You looked up at Spencer again, and he’s looking at his phone as if it contained nothing more than a weather report. You’re astounded.
You: one could argue that technically you’ve already slept together, so there’s less to be nervous abt
You saw his eyebrows raise just slightly. Success.
Spencer: You’re trouble, you know that? See you Friday night
You: i promise i won’t try to jump you
Spencer: Oh
Spencer: I fear I may have shot myself in the foot here
You: i wouldn’t worry about it too much
Spencer: That’s rich coming from you
You rolled your eyes even though he couldn't see you.
You: whatever. wear something sexy ;)
You heard him blow air out of his nose, an almost laugh.
“Something funny?” you heard Derek ask.
Shit.
“This book contains a historical inaccuracy that was proven incorrect eight years before its publishing date,” Spencer replied without missing a beat.
Unbelievable.
You: you’re unhinged :*
Spencer: Go to sleep already, would you?
You: coworker to coworker? my crush keeps interrupting my beauty sleep
Spencer: He’s probably worried about the worldwide implications of you becoming any more beautiful
You: i guess that’s why the universe gave you insomnia :( too pretty
Spencer: Stop flirting with me
You: bc you’re too delicate??
Spencer: Yes
You snapped your phone shut, feeling dazed. You watched the clouds go by in the window across from you, and you couldn’t help letting your gaze slide over to Spencer. He’d put his phone down as well, concentrating on his book. Or pretending to concentrate. He was turning the pages much too slowly for his actual pace.
You: you have got to do a better job of fake reading than that
You heard a page turn.
You looked up again to see the ghost of a smile threatening the corner of his mouth.
This was going to be fun. And also, you were so screwed.

the promised follow-up to like pulling teeth. the show is never gonna let them talk this much, but I will continue to do so
suckage ratio
"Sometimes I say things before I think them through," Evan says, and Tommy's brows shoot up. He can feel them being judgy, and he wants them to stop but unfortunately they have a through line to his reactions in a way his mouth doesn't.
This feels like a test.
Tommy keeps his mouth shut, and Evan breathes.
"And I just - you always - I know I say stupid things. I know I should think before I talk, but s-sometimes the words just get backed up and if I don't get them out..." He gestures, some strange swoop over the top of his head, something that might be an explosion. "...a-and then I get flustered, and I say things that - I say things I don't mean the way you think I mean them."
What we've got here is a failure to communicate, Tommy thinks to himself, and tries to get some control over his goddamn eyebrows. The whole face area in general, really. His shoulders, too, which have turned in on themselves and he's already failing this test fucking miserably, he's pretty sure.
He's still here. That was - that was the first thing. The one thing Evan had demanded, before they even thought about...this. This nightmarish scenario where they excavate things they've both buried for safe keeping.
Evan pauses. He's been doing that thing where he leans - feet planted, wrists turned with the full weight of his body leaning into the palms planted on a vertical surface, shoulders shifting, head tilting. Tommy's dubbed it his We Should Talk stance, and every time he's pulled it out since they agreed to try it again it's set Tommy on edge.
His eyebrows aren't a fan of the We Should Talk stance at all.
He wishes there was a rational way to explain to them that this is actually helping.
The shoulders are a lost fucking cause. He perfected protecting his core by rolling in on himself before Evan was even born, and once he stopped playing it straight in both a literal and figurative sense he lost the habit of projecting.
Mostly. A direct hit to his meaty center typically sends him flying back to the comfort of not-being-Tommy, for a while.
"You can - you can say something, now."
Tommy blinks. Processes. He feels like a selfish jackass for taking in Evan's words and immediately spiraling into his own self-pity.
"How -?" Tommy starts, pauses because he's not sure that's the question that will actually get him the answer he needs. "What can I do? To help you with that?"
"I..." Evan looks stumped. Like it never actually crossed his mind to come up with a solution, a bridge between the two of them. It makes Tommy ache, a bit, to think of all the time he's recognized this about himself, to think that no one has ever bothered to ask before. Tommy certainly hadn't. Tommy's been constructing and tinkering with his exit plan from the moment he booked it out the door after asking him out.
("Don't make me ask you for your work schedule, Tommy, I know you didn't have a shift that morning."
"Well it wasn't in the morning, obviously."
"When was it?"
"...28 hours later," he'd said, and immediately added another movie series to the growing list he'd maintained even while they were broken up.)
"We can figure it out together," Tommy says, and the full weight of that hits him like fucking anti-aircraft artillery. He holds up a fist, raises a finger. "Shutting down and bolting doesn't help," he says, and lifts a finger. "The snide comments are a problem." Another finger. Evan blinks and stares at him with something heated simmering in his gaze, and Tommy glances at his own hand long enough to conjure up an eyeroll. "Deflecting into a flirt isn't useful, either," he adds, raising a third finger, which earns him Evan's tongue planting itself in the side of his cheek before he rolls it out to poke between his teeth.
Evan takes a deep breath, shakes the flirty brow loose, sucks his cheeks in like that's a more serious expression. Christ, they're bad at this.
They can get better, though.
"I - I know you're trying to relate with me, but th-the interruptions are... when I lose where I'm going I get frustrated," Evan adds, his own shoulders curled in like the way his mind words is some sort of moral failing, and not one of the most fascinating things about him.
Tommy wishes they were in a place where he knew how to explain how much he adored the things Evan was always trying desperately to keep under the surface.
He still hasn't figure out a way to phrase "Your obsessive nature and idiosyncrasies and the way you're incredibly annoying sometimes make me feel a little feral." in a way that won't be interpreted as an insult.
Tommy holds up a fourth finger. "Add it to the list."
Evan's gaze darts around for a moment like he's thinking about making a physical list, and Tommy wants to bite him.
"You have to stop interpreting shit before I even get to my point," Evan says, looking a little less like this is the first time he's never thought about how to make it work, before. "I'm not a mystery for you to unravel, Tommy, it just takes me a bit to get to where I'm going."
Tommy nods. The eyebrows seem to have settled. Evan shifts his weight, glances again at Tommy's hand - all his fingers and his thumb outstretched. He looks antsy.
Tommy can't help the soft grin that tilts at the corners of his mouth. "You wanna get your phone out, or is this a paper and pen kind of situation?"
Evan's hand digs into his back pocket immediately.
Tommy's shoulders are loose, he realizes, while Evan ducks his head to type.
He hates this, but its the first time in a long time that he hasn't had to temper an immediate urge to lock his heart in a cage and throw away the key.
Evan pauses in his typing. Reaches across the space between them to fold Tommy's pinky and ring fingers down. He pauses. Frowns. Folds Tommy's ring finger back up. "That's blanket permission to call me out when I'm being an asshole."
Tommy sucks in his lips. Fights the urge to press forward and smother his face in kisses, run his fingers through the loose curls he'd thoroughly enjoyed fucking up last night. "After you've finished, maybe," Tommy negotiates, and Evan's face does something complicated, self-admonishment followed by a glance so devastatingly grateful that Tommy's afraid he'll have to fight someone in the future for not just fucking listening to this man.
It'll probably be himself, if he's being honest. No issue there, he's used to that internal battle.
He bullet points his list until he's folded all of Tommy's fingers back into his palm. He strokes Tommy's thumb once he's done, curls his hand around the closed fist. Holds Tommy's gaze for a long, long moment.
"I'm gonna say something and I just want to let you know ahead of time it's a - a fully formed thought."
Tommy can't help the grin, or the hand that reaches up to fully encompass the one Evan has curled around his fist. Tommy's never been particularly enamored with his own size, or the way he dwarfs people, but there's something about the way their hands slot together that has always driven him a little wild.
"I want this to work," Evan says, and Tommy's breath kicks it's way from his lungs. "Someday, I wanna live with you. Get a dog. Talk about marriage, and - and kids." A flash of something across his eyes. "If that's - if that's something you might want, too."
The last time Tommy admitted to wanting something like that, he'd been getting ready to spend the rest of his life pretending to be straight. The want never left, but it did bury itself deep where Tommy could keep it safe.
They're tunneling down, though, aren't they?
"I want those things," he murmurs, because saying them at a normal volume feels like asking to have the words ripped right from his mouth. "I want them with -."
Tommy's breath comes out shaky, and between his fist and palm Evan's hand squeezes.
"I've wanted them with you." He manages slightly more than a whisper. Evan's eyes are a little misty. Tommy's throat is tight enough to be aware he's close to tears.
He shoulders don't curl in. He's almost certain his eyebrows aren't currently grooving the wrinkles he'll have when he's older and grayer. Both of his hands are occupied either with holding or anchoring Evan. He takes a steadying breath, and the noise that bubbles out of him is half-laugh.
"I hate this so much, Evan," he admits, and Evan grins back at him. He's aware of the fact that he's definitely going to cry, at some point in the near fucking future, and for once it doesn't feel like the end of the goddamn world.
"Next time it'll suck like..." he tips his head side to side, "...three percent less."
"Does the suckage percentage increase over time?"
Evan's cheeks drift up towards his ears. That smile has been fucking deadly since the first time Tommy saw it.
"Guess we'll find out, right?"

Unexpected Scenery?
Tumblr media
so i really like photography… hence the inspiration for this …
The reader is a photographer in this😌
i’m also going to pretend that Kamera’s act like digital kameras for this💀
GOD THIS IS SO BAD I CANT
You always see him. Everyday, without fail, you see him around his home tribe, "Scions of the Canopy."
You don’t know much of him, other than he had been chosen to fight against the abyss. He was notable for taking commissions that usually collect dust.
Kinich was often described as a taciturn man by others labeling him as rather mysterious in a way. The only real way to notice him is from the obnoxious voice that is always found accompanying him.
Ajaw was very loud, you’d be surprised if someone told you he hated all the attention he’d sometimes gain from it.
By the looks of it, Kinich and Ajaw don’t get along very well. Whenever you see them, they’re always arguing over one thing or another.
Ajaw is akin to a toddler, always causing a ruckus and throwing fits. Kinich is a cool-headed, confident man. How exactly did they end up together??
You dismissed the thought as you sat on the edge of that platform that sits below the reputation center. You hear the thundering footsteps of Mayta, as he runs past you multiple times.
'That reckless child..'
You shake your head as he continues his 'training' as he calls it. You often come down here to admire the view and keep an eye on the child when you're not busy.
As you look over your shoulder, eyes following Mayta, you see a green flash out of your peripheral. Smiling as you turn your head to see him.
Kinich always come swinging towards the reputation area looking for work.
"Ten points for agility.!" 🤓☝️
You hear from above you, followed by an annoyed sigh.
"Do you ever shut your mouth?" Kinich retorts.
A small laugh escapes you as you hear Ajaw huff. You always found their bickering so entertaining.
Were you eavesdropping? yes. was it kinda creepy? also yes.
As their voices get farther away, you go back to focus on the scenery in front of you. The sun setting in just the right way, making the sky a beautiful purple. A sight for sore eyes really.
You quickly take put your Kamera to snap a picture of the breathtaking view.
Snap!
You continue to admire the view, losing track of time.
Just as you’re about to look at the picture you took earlier, you hear running footsteps and a familiar bickering duo.
You wait for the footsteps to get closer, and as Kinich steps off the ledge and onto his first grapple swing-
Snap! Snap! Snap!
You smile as you put the Kamera down, swinging your feet over the edge like a child, excited to see the shot.
The sun is going down rather quickly though, and it wouldn’t be the best idea to stay out any longer..
You decide to head back up and go inside before it gets too dark, and so you can examine your newest photos.
As you reach the top deck, you’re bombarded with an obnoxious dragon in your face, screaming at you.
You let out a surprised shriek as you almost swat at it, taking much willpower in you to not.
“The audacity! How dare you, feeble human, take a photo of me, the great K’uhul Ajaw, without his permission?!” It screams.
You let out an awkward laugh, something you always do when you’re nervous.
“Are you some sort of creep?! A stalker maybe!?”
“No- not at all!” You retort.
“I was simply taking a photo of the sky and you just so happen to interrupt it.”
“YOU- YOU..” Ajaw stomps his little feet in protest.
His anger is short lived after he grabbed and tossed aside by that pretty familiar face.
“Leave them alone.” He says with an exhausted sigh.

“So.. about that photo.”
“I promise it wasn’t anything creepy- it was just a really pretty sunset and i wanted to take a photo, then i saw you swing by.. and i thought it would make for a nice photo then-“ You rambled in a panic.
“It’s fine.” He cuts you off.
You can’t tell if he’s mad, his voice sounds so monotone..
“I just want to see the photo. I feel that’s a fair price since it was taken without my permission.”
“..oh.! nono yeah of course-!” You sigh out in relief.
You pull your Kamera back out of your bag and flip to the gallery. You get closer to him, shoulders barely touching, and face the same way he is so you can show him the photos.
He leans down a bit as you show him tho photos. You can’t read his expression at all and it makes you nervous.
“THOSE LOOK LIKE AS-” The dragon, thankfully, couldn’t finish his insult as he was sent flying by Kinich.
“They look nice. He meant to say they look nice.” He says as he looks at you.
You back up to where you were earlier and then you really realize just how beautiful he looks, especially when the sunset is still barely there.
Picture perfect, you’d say.
You caught yourself staring, i mean who wouldn’t?
“Uhm- anyways! Thank you, i’m sorry, and uh- goodnight to you-” You say quickly as you turn your back and walk away with a quick pace. Your face heating up. You were definitely embarrassed after that.
Your hurry caused you to miss the slight blush that tinted his ears and small, but soft smile he had adorned.

Growing up you'd always been excited to find out who your soulmate was.
No matter who you were there was someone out there destined for you. Platonic or not, it was a special relationship that connected people together, whatever circumstances it may be. It gave you a lot of comfort to know that at least someone would end up caring for you on that high of a degree. At least that's what you initially hoped.
At around six years old you could faintly remember the sentences but you were confident that ‘Brat’ was brought up many times. Words like disrespectful, arrogant, too self centered and a bunch of other synonyms for cocky was amidst. Though it shifted to some other words eventually, often you'd see during your time in middle school that he was very strong, determined and particularly a sentence that stuck out to you.
'It can't be helped, his pride is most important. I need to be strong like him.’
It seems like this person has a sense of understanding of this soulmate of yours. From the dots you connected he looks to be very goal oriented to the point of not caring if he's brash or not. But honestly that didn't matter to you because his temper and 'meanness' was prevalent above else and you don't think you have the balls because first of all you don't have balls yourself, second of all the expression no balls stay true to your character.
As the youngest daughter of a trillion dollar company you'd think there would be nothing to be scared of. However after being kidnapped for ransom more times than you'd prefer and treated as lesser than your siblings. It's not weird that you became not so confident and fearful unlike your so-called other half who seems to be the opposite.
That's why you were actually sent to a school which required top facilities with heroes and heroes in training to ensure a safer environment for your education. What better place than U.A itself? It was a good balance of peace, by not being kidnapped, and still seeing the outside world, by not being locked to an area with higher security than the world leader itself. All was good, you were gonna coast through school in business class with your small friend group.
Not looking to expand since all your other classmates cared more about your status and what a relationship with you can bring. It was going extremely well…. until it wasn't.
Rewinding about five minutes ago, after class the teacher informed the students that they could decide who to do the project with on 'expenditures. Slowly everyone turned to you some subtle others not so much and yeah that's how you ended up in your current predicament. Being the first to pack your bags and exit like you were the flash to hurrying down the stairs you swiftly turned around the next set of steps to avoid the crowd following you to team up.
It was embarrassing enough to be falling in the first place, it was even more so when there were two other students walking up on the other side. Staring at you as you fell, it was like everything was moving in slow motion. Their look of confusion to surprised looks as you hit the ground.
BAM!
"Ow." you voiced in major pain.
"OH MY GOD! ARE YOU OKAY??" the red head would scream veering in your direction until.
"FUCK!!!"
The blonde yelled out as he fell on the stairs itself, holding onto the exact place where you were hurt the most.
"Bakugou! What happened man— wait."
Turning to look at you then to his friend he seemed to be in thought. The ruby eyed one on the other hand looked like he wanted to kill you. Like it was your fault that…..that…oh.
As he eloquently said so himself,
fuck.
