93 Of The Best Oscars Dresses Of All Time
https://www.elle.com/uk/fashion/celebrity-style/g26388237/best-oscar-dresses-ever/
Thanks for the message, Anon. 😃 I loved her 2020 ensemble… whilst never losing sight of fashion sense’s subjectivity (a sentiment that really hits home this London Fashion Week 😖).
Here’s Number 17:
Designer: Valentino / Year: 2020
Numbers 1 through 5 are under Elle’s text. Numbers 6 through 16, and 18 through 93, live in the link.
93 Of The Best Oscars Dresses Of All Time
From Barbra Streisand's exquisite Arnold Scassi pantsuit to Halle Berry in Elie Saab, we've collected the best Oscars dresses of all time.
For many, the Oscars awards ceremony is hotly anticipated for its choice of winners. Cinephiles discuss intently if Brendan Fraser's comeback role in The Whale will nab him Best Actor In A Leading Role, or if Paul Mescal will pip him to the post. Others tune in for the meme-making cultural moments, be it a slap heard around the world, or a calamitous misreading of 'Moonlight' as 'La La Land' (it could happen to anyone, right?).
But for us, and we suspect you too, it's the sport of red carpet dressing that keeps us coming back for more. Having the ability to promote (or demote) a near-unknown to a leading lady in the blink of a ballgown, the power of a stellar styled look cannot be understated. Be it Audrey Hepburn in Givenchy in 1954, Michelle Williams in Vera Wang in 2006, or Lupita Nyong'o in Prada there have been some truly marvellous -dare we say history-making - gowns worn by the best actors in the world on the night of the Academy Awards.
So devoted are we to the best dressed stars of the red carpet, ahead of the 96th Academy Awards (taking place on March 10 2024) we've gone through each and every one of them to find the 93 best Oscar dresses ever worn. You're welcome!

Remember… Irish actress Caitriona Balfe looked stunning — as per usual — on the red carpet at the 2020 Oscars in Valentino Haute Couture! The 40-year-old newlywed wore a unique outfit that involved a dress and a blouse when she walked the carpet at her first Academy Awards. She stunned in the black, fishtail-style gown which fell straight down her body in an extremely flattering style. But the strapless dress wasn’t the star of the show: it was the sheer pink blouse she wore over the top! The high-neck blouse was made of a very light material, and fell down to her hips. It also featured a gorgeous, oversized bow which she wore to the left of her neck. Stunning! The model-turned-actress accessorized with silver stud earrings and a matching silver ring and bracelet. Caitriona slicked her beautiful brunette tresses back into a tight bun near the nape of her neck, and polished her look with a bold red lipstick, and red nail polish. What a star! — Hollywood Life

Your hands were shaking as you smoothed your dress down even though it didn’t need any altering whatsoever and you look up into the mirror to see Gwilym standing behind you with a smile. He steps towards you slowly then reaches out for your hands and places his on top of them as your body relaxes into him.
“Everything will be alright,” he soothes, “I’ll be right there next to you.”
“I don’t even know why I’m nervous!” you sigh, “I couldn’t care less about winning, being nominated was more than enough.”
“But you will win,” Gwilym smirks in the reflection of the mirror. You slip your hands away from his and turn to face him so you can slide your arms around his shoulders.
“I’ve already won,” you grin before standing on tiptoe to kiss his lips.
“Flattery will get you everywhere,” he mumbles against your mouth as he deepens the lustful kiss. When you part you notice the shadow of your lipstick hanging on his lips and wipe it away with your thumb, then he kisses the pad of your digit as you smile up at him.
“You ready for this?” he asks.
“Ready as I’ll ever be!” you chuckle.
Making your way to the red carpet was exhilarating and Gwil held your hand throughout the car journey as you tapped your foot with both nerves and excitement. You never quite got used to people shouting your name from behind the lenses of cameras and it could become a little overwhelming when you had to change direction every few seconds, but with Gwilym by your side nothing else mattered, and you’re soon ushered over to a waiting interviewer for a quick chat.
“I’m here on the extremely busy red carpet with Gwilym Lee and actress in a supporting role nominee (Y/N) (Y/L/N) from the hit film Bohemian Rhapsody. How are you feeling right now, (Y/N)? Is it feeling real now that you’re here?” the interviewer asks as they point the microphone towards you.
“I have a terrifying mixture of excitement and nerves fluttering around in my stomach right now, and it’s feeling very real now!”
“Are you nervous about the competition you’re up against?”
“For me, being nominated is more than enough and I’m still expecting someone to turn around and admit they made a mistake with the nominees list,” you laugh, “it’s mostly the nerves of waiting for that to happen I think!”
“They didn’t get anything wrong there, trust me! Gwilym, how do you feel as a fellow co-star and husband?”
“So unbelievably proud. She’s just phenomenal, I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of this nomination than her. (Y/N) doesn’t do things by half and she put her heart and soul into this. I’m just so full of pride, I could burst,” he smiles and you melt into his side.
“That’s beautiful. Well my fingers are crossed for you tonight, (Y/N), thank you for talking to us!”
You both make your way inside with Gwilym’s arm firmly gripped around your waist and have just enough time to see Ben, Joe and Allen before taking your seats near Rami and Lucy in the front row of your section. As soon as your category is announced both Lucy and Gwilym who are either side of you grip onto your hands as the names are called and the clips play on screen.
“And the winner of actress in a supporting role is… (Y/N) (Y/L/N)!”
Your breath catches in your throat as you hear your name called out and everyone starts going crazy around you as you stay sat in shock for a few seconds, but what feels like minutes. Lucy is first to wrap her arms around you and squeal, then Rami cuddles you tightly before you finally turn to Gwilym who has the widest grin on his face you’d ever seen.
“I fucking knew it,” he whispers as he peppers your face with kisses, “get up there.”
He helps you to the stairs then steps back and takes his seat as you collect your award. Him, Lucy and Rami exchange excited looks and Gwil rubs his cheeks as they start to hurt from smiling so much.
“Umm, okay,” you say into the microphone as you look at the three supportive people in front of you, “well, I didn’t prepare anything because I didn’t think this was going to happen, so you’ll have to bear with me while my mind catches up to what’s going on.”
The audience lets out a light chuckle and you laugh nervously into the mic.
“Well, none of this would have happened without the absolute legends that are Brian May and Roger Taylor,” you begin as you gesture your award towards them in the crowd and they give a wave, “I will never be able to thank you enough for what you’ve done for all of us. To the whole cast and crew who worked tirelessly on making this masterpiece, I am honoured to have been on this journey with you all and I wouldn’t be up here if it weren’t for every single one of you. To my family who have put up with so much over the years… It all paid off, right?!” you shake the oscar in your hand with a smile and another quiet chuckle sounds out around the room, “and finally to you, Gwilym, my better half, my rock, genuine love of my life. Thank you for being you, you perfect man.”
Your eyes glisten with tears as you look directly at him and he blows you a kiss before sweeping a finger underneath his eyes as a tear escapes. Everyone applauds as you step back from the microphone then you go off stage at the side and Gwilym sneaks out of his seat to meet you. No words are uttered as he picks you up, spins you around then places you gently back down but keeps his arms wrapped tightly around you while he buries his face in your neck to muffle his proud sobs. Words were superfluous right now as you held onto one another in a loving embrace, and the oscar almost slips out of your fingers in an attempt to hold him tighter.
Can I ask for a Gwilym Lee imagine where yn wins her first Oscar and it's super cute because her husband (and the cast) are super happy for her and she thanks him in a lovely way(inspired by Ramis speech that was wonderful)

Sure, spring is nice, and there’s so much to celebrate in the winter but my favorite season is easily awards season! 2021 marks 93 years of Hollywood’s annual film celebration, and this year’s Academy Awards will be a combination of in-person and virtual.
Ahead of the big night every year, my friends and I try to watch all of the new nominees, along with some of our favorite past winners. With the help of Google Search, we’re able to keep track of everything we want to watch, as well as check titles off once the credits roll. Starting today, you’ll find a brand new carousel of 2021 nominated movies when searching for “what to watch.” And on Google TV, we’re featuring collections that highlight nominees and 20 years of award-winning women.
During my movie list-making, I decided to take a look at Google Trends to see what “Best Picture” winners have piqued our interest. And the award for most-searched goes to: 1997’s romantic drama about a maiden voyage across the Atlantic...with two hits from the 70s as the runners-up.
Best Picture winners from 1927 - 2020 ranked by global Google Search interest from 2004 to March 2021
Check out this visualization of how classic flicks have been searched over the years.
And here’s how fans across the U.S. have been searching for this year’s best picture nominees.
But Hollywood’s big night isn’t only about the movies — it’s also about the celebrities. Here’s what Google Trends revealed about our searches for award show stars. (Spoiler Alert: Leonardo DiCaprio is the most searched “Oscar snub” since 2004 in the U.S.)
Most-searched “How many Oscars does … have” since 2004 US
Leonardo DiCaprio
Meryl Streep
Tom Hanks
Denzel Washington
Brad Pitt
Most-searched Oscar duos since 2004 U.S.
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper
Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez
Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
Most-searched Red Carpet celebrities since 2004 U.S.
Jennifer Lawrence
Lady Gaga
Angelina Jolie
Jennifer Lopez
Billy Porter
Search “Oscars” to stay up to date on this year’s nominees throughout the show. The list of winners in each category will be updated in real time and you’ll also find live clips, top stories, and other trending content. Starting Sunday April 25 at 5 p.m. PT, you’ll also be able to find ABC’s live stream in Search.
To hear some predictions ahead of the red carpet, ask Google Assistant, “Hey Google, what are your Oscar predictions?” or “Hey Google, who do you think is best dressed at the Oscars?” Assistant also has the full list of nominees, of course, and plenty more to talk about. You can even join in on the fun at award night by asking, “Hey Google, give me an award.”
Grab the popcorn...it’s almost showtime!

The Oscars Were Pretty Dry, But The Afterparty & Watch Party Scene HIT – The Wades, The Wests, The Wilsons, Klay & Laura, Kerry, Tracee, Tessa, Lena & MORE!
In case the Oscars didn’t do it for you, the afterparty scene was super LIT. Go inside to see how your faves Kanye & Kim West, Gabby & D.Wade, Ciara & Russell Wilson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Tessa Thompson, Lena Waithe and tons more hit the afterparty scene….
This year’s Oscars ceremony was REAL white, dry and unseasoned.
However, the afterparty scene was lit with melanin and celebs def brought their A+ fashion game to Vanity Fair’s annual Oscars afterparty - hosted by Radhika Jones - held at Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. All the “IT” folks were there to mix, mingle and have fun.
OK...we see Gabrielle Union and her hubby Dwyane Wade coordinated their party 'fits.
Rocking a spring-inspired floral look, the former “AGT” judge slipped on a white strapless Giambattista Valli midi dress that featured white 3D flowers cinched at the waist with a diamond-encrusted belt. She paired the dress with a bomb pair of Jimmy Choo’s ‘Thyra’ sandals.
In case you've been under a rock, catch up on all the deets involving Gabby and her departure from "America's Got Talent" HERE.
Coordinating with his wife, the retired NBA baller rocked a white blazer with lace detailing, black trousers and black shoes.
Mr. & Mrs. West were in the building! Rapper Kanye West showed up at the soiree in an all black Alfred Dunhill 'fit while his wife Kim Kardashian West rocked a dramatic Alexander McQueen dress for the festivities:

We see you Queen!
American Son actress Kerry Washington killed this Zuhair Murad couture outfit, styled by Luxury Law.
If you haven't heard, she's starring opposite Reese Witherspoon in Hulu's upcoming miniseries, Little Fires Everywhere. Peep the explosive trailer HERE.
Another win for Zuhair Murad!
"black-ish" starlet Tracee Ellis Ross looked like goddess when she hit the carpet in this gold Zuhair Murad Spring 2020 Couture gown with a pleated cape.
The Golden Globe winning actress accessorized her look with Jennifer Meyer Jewelry.

The Wilsons have been super busy this week, hitting up fashion shows and doing date night. Ciara had to get cut out her dress, Russell Wilson has been getting clowned on social media for his new hair. Either way, they've been outside, bumping along with their growing baby.
The "Level Up" singer is pregnant with her third baby STILL out here looking like a bag of money:
The "America's Most Talented Family" judge stunned in a custom sparkling Ralph & Russo gown that featured a thigh-high slit and crystals.

Sheesh. We love to see it.
We were counting on Chrissy Teigen to gives us some meme-able moments during the ceremony, but that sadly didn't happen. However, chick was on the afterparty scene with her hubby/EGOT John Legend.
The "Lip Sync Battle" color commentator floated on the carpet in a seafom green Georges Hobeika couture gown.
Speaking of EGOT...
Oscar nomiee Cynthia Erivo was in the running in two categories and had she won one, she would have officially reached EGOT status. Not only that, she would have been the youngest person and the one who reached the big feat the fastest. Unfortunately, she didn't nab an award last night, however, chick slayed the Oscars red carpet and the afterpary carpet.
The British born actress wowed in a lilac and teal gown with a thigh-high slit. It resembled her white Versace gown she wore on the carpet.
After chatting it up with celebs on the red carpet for the Oscars before the show, "POSE" actor Billy Porter changed from his Giles Deacon couture gown to something more dance ready. The Golden Globe nominated actor slipped into this custom purple and lilac Christian Siriano 'fit, topped with a custom Sarah Sokol Millinery brimmed hat, and a "F*CK U PAY ME" clutch by These Pink Lips.
Billy stay shutting down a carpet, honey.
Kiki Layne is def becoming one of our faves to see on a carpet because chick hardly ever disappoints. Like, ever.
The If Beale Street Could Talk actress looked regal in this sparkly gold Michael Kors gown, styled by Wayman and Micah. The hair, her skin...walking perfection.

After getting kissy with Brad Pitt, Oscar winning actress Regina King hit the afterparty scene in a baby blue and black Versace gown, styled by Wayman + Michah.
"Westworld" actress Tessa Thompson looked bomb on the carpet in this mint green trimmed in black vintage Versace high slit gown. Sis snapped with this one.
Actress Megalyn Echikunwoke posed it up at VF's afterparty after cheering her man Chris Rock on during the ceremony.
The "Almost Famous" actress posed it up in a white strappy Hamel gown paired with Stuart Weitzman heels.
Fab directress Ava DuVernay follows a specific blueprint when it comes to her red carpet looks and her Oscars look didn't stray from what works for her. The "When They See Us" director wore an emerald green Galia Lahav gown, styled by Jason Bolden.
On the carpet, the SELMA director snapped shots with EMMY winning writer Lena Waithe.
"The Chi" creator - who recently announced she was getting a divorce after less than a year of marriage - rocked Rich Fresh threads for the Oscars afterparty.
Television producer Shonda Rhimes was all smiles on the carpet in a printed black and white dress.
Oscar winning producer Spike Lee kept his custom Gucci suit on where he paid tribute to the late NBA icon Kobe Bryant. His wife, Tonya Lewis Lee, joined him on the carpet.
Yasssss! Fashion model Halima Aden totally killed this look. She was styling and profiling in a custom-made Atelier by FANG signature pleated fan gown. It was def a one of a kind look that she pulled off perfectly:

Hmmm...no. We're not feeling model Joan Smalls' Schiaparelli look. What about you all?
"This Is Us" actress Susan Kelechi Watson was picture perfect in Naeem Khan and Stuart Weitzman heels.
"Grey's Anatomy" star Jesse Williams hit the carpet solo, sans his girlfriend/ZOLA actress Taylour Paige.
Rapper Wiz Khalifa put his blunt down long enough to snap a flick on the carpet.
Hmm...do y'all see what we see, or are we reaching?
After celebrating her man's birthday, BlacKKKlansman starlet Laura Harrier posed it up with her BAE/Golden State Warriors player Klay Thompson.
The Spider-Man: Homecoming actress wore a Louis Vuitton ensemble that featured a bustier and a stripped skirt.
Los Angeles Lakers player Anthony Davis brought his longtime girlfriend/mother of his daughter Marlen P. Both. It's rumored he may propose soon.
Singer Miguel and his wife Nazanin Mandi looked goodt.
Looks like singer Usher - in a silk Balmain 'fit - saw something that caught his eye.
Singer Anderson .Paak was too cool for school.
"How To Get Away With Murder" star Aja Naomi King looked like a princess in a Mylah Morales dress, styled by Wayman + Micah.
Come all the way through, Jurnee Smollett!

Workbook Week 4 - Qualitative Research and Projection Techniques
Conducting interviews with consumers asking rational and emotive questions. The result is an unbiased view and description of the brand. This will aid in correctly placing the brand in the brand's universe and creating a full proof, multi opinion brand identity blueprint.
My interview
Answers: Oscar
Can you describe an occasion that you would buy Rush Munro’s ice cream for?
After a hard day at work or when I'm feeling like splashing a bit. After something a bit more quality and healthier but still want that satisfying taste of ice cream/ chocolate
What are you doing when eating Rush Munro’s?
Kicking back at home with friends or family, maybe after a family dinner? Or indulging on a nice coastal beach on a hot summer's day
How would you describe how it tastes? And feels?
It tastes slightly healthier than other ice creams, more refined possibly? It feels smooth and melts in your mouth. It has nice flavours and smells which reminded me of a farmers market
How are you eating it?
By itself with a spoon, watching TV. It is so good and flavoursome it does not require any accompaniment
What kind of people are you with when you eat Rush Munro?
Family and friends, either with family around the dinner table or watching TV or with friend and the beach or on a road trip somewhere sunny
Where would you place Rush Munro on the market in terms of quality?
High end, it is pricey and organic. It seems like something you would buy from a deli or upmarket supermarket such as Farro
What does it mean to you that Rush Munro is 93 years old?
It shows heritage and that they have been perfecting their craft over a number of years. To me it shows long-standing quality
How often would you buy Rush Munro?
On a rare occasion, it is something special and for a unique occasion. It is quite pricey so its when you are after the top quality version of ice cream
What kind of effect does the organic qualities of Rush Munro have on your decision to purchase it?
It makes me feel slightly more health and environmentally conscious. I am not buying some mass produced ice cream that comes out of some huge pollution churning factory. It seems straight from the source and taste like a slice of home.
Oscar - Rush Munro’s Visualisation
I am waiting in a big casino/ hotel lobby. There are a lot of bright lights, noises and gold. People dressed in suits and exotic smells, it is night time and the place is hustling and bustling
It is a gold plates limousine, with bright headlights out the front and a big panoramic sunroof on top. It looks brand spanking new and is very shiny.
The driver speaks in a high-class English accent and wears a dark black suit with a top hat. He also wears a bow tie, very formal
Big neon signs and flashing lights, watch the throne by Kanye and Jay Z is playing, making me feel successful and special. I'm in a big busy city where there are a lot of important people walking around and big skyscrapers
There is a big red carpet and again lots of flashing lights and cameras, it feels like the Oscars. There is free tastings and a photo wall plastered with the logo of the brand, people are drinking champagne and chatting. There is a big sign for the brand exclusive versions of the product
They are dressed very flash and have slick back hair, donning a base for the brand on his suit. They explain how at this brand experience they will be releasing an exclusive new flavour that is only available tonight and goes on sale next year. It makes me feel special as I am getting something limited edition. I feel lucky and valued as they want me to try this exclusive product.

NEW YORK — Six years after “Frozen” kicked up a pop-culture blizzard, the sequel to Elsa, Anna and Olaf’s adventures snowed-in the box office with an estimated $127 million debut domestically and $350.2 million worldwide, according to studio estimates Sunday.
The opening for the Walt Disney Co.’s “Frozen 2” buried several records. It’s the highest-grossing weekend ever for any animated film globally. It marks a new high in the U.S. and Canada for an animated movie released outside of the summer season. And it’s the largest opening for any Walt Disney Animation Studios release.
Disney opted for the week ahead of Thanksgiving to open “Frozen 2,” meaning it will get a significant second week bump from kids out of school. The first “Frozen” opened over Thanksgiving, earning $93 million in five days and $67 million for the three-day weekend.
The original, though, quickly grew into a sensation, remaining in the top 10 at the box office for 17 weeks and ultimately grossing $1.27 billion. Propelled in part by the hit song “Let it Go,” “Frozen” begat a flurry of merchandizing, untold numbers of Elsa dresses and a Broadway musical. It won two Academy Awards, for best animated feature and original song.
Matching that total gross won’t be easy sledding, but “Frozen 2” has a head start. Cathleen Taff, distribution chief for Disney, granted there’s a “high bar” set by “Frozen,” but she’s confident of the film’s enormous appeal.
“We can’t open to a number this big without everybody coming out to see it,” said Taff. “We’re looking forward to a good run through the holidays given kids are going to start getting out of school this next week.”
Reviews and audience reaction have been good for “Frozen 2,” but not as strong as they were for the original. The CinemaScore was A- for “Frozen 2,” whereas “Frozen” yielded an A+. Critics were also a little less taken with the sequel: 75% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to 90% for the original.
But scores were still very high, including a 93% Rotten Tomatoes audience rating. Crowds were largely female (59%) but not extremely so.
The film brings back much of the talent behind the 2013 original, including the voices of Idina Menzel (Elsa), Kristen Bell (Anna) and Josh Gad (Olaf). Also returning are songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, though the music this time hasn’t be quite as enthusiastically received. And it’s again directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, who’s now the chief creative officer at Disney Animation.
“Frozen 2” helped thaw a frigid November box office. The last three weeks have seen a string of films rooted in decades-old intellectual property fizzle, including Warner Bros.’ “Doctor Sleep,” Paramount Pictures’ “Terminator: Dark Fate” and Sony Pictures’ “Charlie’s Angels.”
But Elsa could do only so much to move the needle. The weekend was actually down 7% from the same frame last year, according to data firm Comscore. In 2018, there were simply more big movies in the marketplace, including “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” “Creed II” and “Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald.”
Last week’s top film, “Ford v Ferrari” slipped 49% in its second week to a distant second with $16 million. James Mangold’s film, also a Disney release (courtesy of the studio’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox), has grossed $103.8 million worldwide thus far. Starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon, the movie has also joined this season’s sped-up Oscar race. (The Academy Awards will be held Feb. 9 this year.)
Marielle Heller’s Mister Rogers drama “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” starring Tom Hanks and Matthew Rhys, is also in the Oscar mix. It opened in third with $13.5 million. That was roughly on target for the Sony Pictures release, which cost about $25 million to make. It, too, should be positioned to play well through the holidays.
Less successful was the crime thriller “21 Bridges,” starring Chadwick Boseman as a police detective who puts Manhattan on lockdown for a manhunt. Up against steep competition for adult audiences, “21 Bridges” raised $9.2 million in tolls for STXfilms, a so-so result for a film that cost $33 million to produce. The film is produced by Anthony and Joseph Russo, whose last movie as directors, “Avengers: Endgame,” did slightly better.
Todd Haynes’ legal thriller “Dark Waters” opened in four theaters with a strong per-theater average of $27,467. The Focus Features release, starring Mark Ruffalo, is based on a 2016 New York Times Magazine article about a corporate attorney who sued the Dupont chemical company over the health and environmental effects of a “forever chemical” used by Dupont.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Where available, the latest international numbers for Friday through Sunday are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
1. “Frozen,” $127 million ($223.2 million international).
2. “Ford v Ferrari,” $16 million.
3. “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” $13.5 million.
4. “21 Bridges,” $9.3 million.
5. “Midway,” $4.7 million.
6. “Playing With Fire,” $4.6 million.
7. “The Good Liar,” $3.8 million.
8. “Charlie’s Angels,” $3.2 million.
9. “Last Christmas,” $3 million.
10. “Joker,” $2.8 million.

These are the 9 winter coat trends to shop this season

These are the 9 winter coat trends to shop this season
It may still be summer outside but in the shops the new season has officially begun…
Winter coats are the sartorial foundations of our seasonal wardrobe so searching for the perfect one can be a tricky and time consuming task especially when there are so many different styles to choose from. And whilst there are always those timeless designs that remain on trend winter after winter (…trench coats we’re looking at you!) we’re often introduced to a brand new outerwear obsession taking over both the catwalk and the high street each time September rolls around.
Whatever the style you’re after, investment is key when shopping for winter coats. After all, there aren’t many other items in our wardrobes that we end up re-wearing pretty much every day for months on end so spending that little extra is not only worth it but totally justified.
Still stuck on where to start? Hopefully our AW18 outerwear edit can offer some inspiration…
The Vinyl Mac
This season the classic mac has had a plastic fantastic make over. Tick off yet another AW’18 trend by styling it with chunky knitwear, lurex and other interesting textures.
Below left: Pink vinyl coat, £2430, SKIIM (shop alternative here) / Pink ribbed knit, £93, Holzweiler / Pink trousers, £486, Longshaw Ward / Pink crystal earrings, £90, Rachel Comey / Sunglasses, £120, Bimba y Lola
The Retro Sports Jacket
Logos, neon colourways, multi-pockets & mesh panelling… Yup, the 90s are officially back and it’s brought with it the good ol’ waterproof tracksuit jacket (a fashionable and functional find; our favourite kind of combination!) Why not work yours with a feminine floral skirt for a cool boy-meets-girl contrast?
Above right: Sports jacket, £130, Tommy Hilfiger / Tracksuit top (worn underneath), £285, Pinko / Floral skirt, £135, Bimba y Lola / Socks, £8, Calvin Klein Jeans / Sandals, £65, Fila at Urban Outfitters
The Checked Chesterfield Coat
The checked tailored coat is the easiest way to add a masculine edge to pretty frocks and silky skirts. Opt for a slightly oversized shape to allow extra room for layering up chunky knits underneath.
Below: Check coat, £1175, Theory (similar here) / Jumper, £325, KENZO La Collection Memento / Printed skirt, £415, Tibi / Boots, £89, Topshop / Bag, £760, Emma Charles / Earrings, £174, Bar Jewellery
The Fuzzy Teddy Jacket
Living up to its name this jacket is one of the cosiest cover-ups around. Keep things relaxed and casual by teaming yours with simple wardrobe staples and sneakers.
Below left: Jacket, £679, Off White at Flannels.com / Polo shirt, £115, Lacoste Live /Checked trousers, £79.95, Massimo Dutti / Mini hoop gold earrings, £1100, Patcharavipa
The Printed Dress-Coat
‘Wearing a coat as a dress’ has a been the top styling tip from street-style star Anna Dello Russo for some time now and when your coat is this statement it would be a shame not to show it off as often as possible. (Plus, if you’ve invested in an expensive piece like this Marni showstopper its great advice if you want more bang for your buck!)
Above right: Coat, £1420, Marni (similar here) / Blue dress, £145, Ghost London / Red boots, £855, Tibi / Green bag, £285 & earrings, £49, both Bimba y Lola
The Trending Trophy Jacket
Anything that sparkles is perfect come party season but it’s also great for dressing up your every-day winter wardrobe. This sequinned jacket would work wonders with a knitted jumper dress and a pair of suede OTK boots.
Below left: Jacket, £1450, Ashish (similar here) / Earrings, £67, Longshaw Ward
The Boyfriend Blazer
There’s nothing quite as effortlessly chic as the boyfriend blazer; it has the potential to smarten up pretty much everything and anything in your existing wardrobe. Look out for interesting details and fabrics such as this tailored-blazer-meets-quilted-jacket hybrid by Tibi for extra style points.
Above right: Blazer, £545, Tibi / Shirt, £225, Frame / Belt, £180, Tibi / Trousers, £345, Palmer Harding / Bag, £450, Orla Kiely / Hexagonal gold & diamond earrings, £5900, Patcharavipa
The Dressed-up Denim Jacket
Below left: Think fringing, embellishment or embroidery… Yes it’s a little bit Britney but a whole lot brilliant! Try wearing it with co-ordinating bottoms for 2018’s answer to double denim.
Fringed denim jacket, £415, MSGM at Flannels.com / Fringed denim jeans, £375, MSGM at Flannels.com / Denim top, £270, Longshaw Ward / Red western boots, £495, Zadig & Voltaire
The Timeless Trench
Above right: If you don’t already own this style icon then its time to invest pronto. Keep things classic with a cream or beige colourway and it will be a key part of your winter wardrobe for years to come… Trust us!
Trench, £505, Maison Kitsune (coming soon/ in store only) / Blazer (just seen), £169, Massimo Dutti / Checked top £134.95, Samsoe & Samsoe / Belt bag, £180, Theory / Ring, £187, Bar Jewellery

Fantasy Hockey Oscars
Inspired by Sunday night’s Academy Awards, which I didn’t watch, I will attempt to put a fantasy hockey spin on the old classic. There will be no red carpet fawning or lists of the best and worst dressed players, that stuff is for The Hockey News.
Costume Design
Rest assured, those awful Toronto Maple Leafs white uniforms (sponsored by Wite Out and Benjamin Moore Paints) they wore during Saturday night’s outdoor game did not make the list. There are four Original Six franchises amongst the nominees. This award is subjective and very much in the eye of the beholder.
Western Conference Nominees
Chicago Blackhawks
St. Louis Blues
Winnipeg Jets
Eastern Conference Nominees
Detroit Red Wings
Montreal Canadiens
Toronto Maple Leafs
Winner – Toronto Maple Leafs. Just a classic look with that old school maple leaf on the front. Take how great those jerseys look, along with how bright the future appears to be and you’ve got a winning combination in Hogtown.
Best Performance in a Comedy
Western Conference Nominees
Brock Boeser (Vancouver Canucks) – 61-29-26-55 (next best on team has 46 points), tied for 10th in NHL with 10 power-play goals, 23 power-play points, second highest rookie scorer
Patrick Kane (Chicago Blackhawks) – 66-24-38-62 (next best on team has 45 points), fifth most shots on goal in NHL (236)
Eastern Conference Nominees
Josh Bailey (New York Islanders) 62-16-48-64, ninth in league with 28 power-play points
Mathew Barzal (New York Islanders) 66-18-49-67, top rookie scorer, two more points than John Tavares
Mark Stone (Ottawa Senators) 55-20-40-60 (next best on team has 47 points)
Winner – Mark Stone. The Senators season has been a circus with talk of dealing their franchise player, trading of veterans and poor attendance numbers. Through it all, Stone has weathered the turmoil and is four points away from a career best campaign with 18 games remaining on the slate.
Foreign Language Film
Western Conference Nominees
Leon Draisaitl (Germany, Edmonton Oilers) – 61-21-37-58
William Karlsson (Sweden, Vegas Golden Knights) – 65-35-24-59, tied for third in NHL goal scoring, leads league in plus/minus (plus-39)
John Klingberg (Sweden, Dallas Stars) – 65-7-48-55, leads NHL in defence scoring
Anze Kopitar (Slovenia, Los Angeles Kings) – 66-27-44-71
Patrik Laine (Finland, Winnipeg Jets) – 65-35-23-58, tied for third in league goal scoring, first in power-play goals
Eastern Conference Nominees
Nikita Kucherov (Russia, Tampa Bay Lightning) – 64-33-52-85, tops league in points, seventh in shots on goal (229), tied for fourth in NHL power-play points (31)
Evgeni Malkin (Russia, Pittsburgh Penguins) – 62-36-43-79, tied for fourth in NHL power-play points (31)
Alexander Ovechkin (Russia, Washington Capitals) – 65-40-32-72, leads NHL in goal scoring and shots on goal (279), 117 hits
Andrei Vasilevskiy (Russia, Tampa Bay Lightning) – 38-12-3, 2.41 goals-against average, 0.926 save percentage, leads NHL in shutouts (7), third in saves (1591)
Jakub Voracek (Czechia, Philadelphia Flyers) – 66-14-57-71, tied for fourth in NHL power-play points (31)
Winner – Nikita Kucherov. Admittedly, there was a heavy Russian presence in the nominations. Kucherov has 21 points in his last 14 games. He will have to fend off Connor McDavid among others down the stretch if he is going to win his first scoring title, but the Russian has a strong supporting cast to help bring the title home.
Directing
Western Conference Nominees
Gerard Gallant (Vegas Golden Knights) – first in Pacific Division, 89 points
Peter Laviolette (Nashville Predators) – first in West, 93 points
Paul Maurice (Winnipeg Jets) – second in Pacific Division, 87 points
Eastern Conference Nominees
Bruce Cassidy (Boston Bruins) – second in Atlantic Division, 88 points
Jon Cooper (Tampa Bay Lightning) – first in NHL, 94 points
John Hynes (New Jersey) – fourth in Metropolitan Division, 74 points
Winner – Gerard Gallant. When you take an expansion team to the top of the division in your first year, you’re gonna win some hardware
Hairstyling Lifetime Achievement Award
Awarded post-humorously to Jaromir Jagr. You haven’t been gone long, but we already miss your flowing mullet.
Sound Mixing (Complaints Falling on Deaf Ears Award)
Western Conference
Jeff Carter (Los Angeles Kings) – 11-3-3-6, averaged 28 goals and 66 points over each of the last three seasons
Oliver Ekman-Larsson (Arizona Coyotes) – 64-9-23-32, league worst minus-35, making him unusable in roto leagues where plus/minus is a category
Duncan Keith (Chicago Blackhawks) – 66-1-27-28, minus-18, 22 penalty minutes, 32 hits, eight power play points, 40.5 average draft position in Yahoo
Eastern Conference
Max Pacioretty (Montreal Canadiens) – 64-17-20-37, minus-16, snaps string of four straight 30 goal seasons, 31.0 average draft position in Yahoo
Justin Schultz (Pittsburgh Penguins) – 47-3-15-18, 12 penalty minutes, seven power-play points
Shea Weber (Montreal Canadiens) – 26-6-10-16, prior to this season, averaged 48.5 points per year over the last four campaigns
Winner – Max Pacioretty. Tough season for Patches, Habs fans and fantasy owners alike.
Short Film (Animated)
Western Conference Nominees
Jake Allen (St. Louis Blues) – 19-19-2, 2.83 goals-against average, 0.904 save percentage
Cam Talbot (Edmonton Oilers) – 22-26-2, 3.12 goals-against average, 0.903 save percentage
Eastern Conference Nominees
Craig Anderson (Ottawa Senators) – 18-20-5, 3.29 goals-against average, 0.900 save percentage
Brayden Holtby (Washington Capitals) – 29-14-4, 3.00 goals-against average, 0.908 save percentage
Matt Murray (Pittsburgh Penguins) – 23-13-2, 2.82 goals-against average, 0.909 save percentage
Carey Price (Montreal Canadiens) – 15-22-6, 2.98 goals-against average, 0.904 save percentage
Winner – Carey Price. The Price was wrong this year. The consensus top-ranked goaltender in fantasy hockey heading into the season had his fantasy owners animated this year and dropped many fantasy teams out of contention early in the campaign. This season is well off his usual fantasy excellence. Over the previous four campaigns combined, Price has a 2.16 goals-against average and 0.928 save percentage.
Documentary (Feature)
Western Conference Nominees
Connor Hellebuyck (Winnipeg Jets) – 34-10-8, 2.40 goals-against average, 0.922 save percentage, six shutouts (second in NHL)
Carter Hutton (St. Louis Blues) – 16-7-3, leads league in both goals-against average (2.02) and save percentage (0.934)
Pekka Rinne (Nashville Predators) – 35-9-4, 2.33 goals-against average, 0.927 save percentage, six shutouts (second in NHL)
Eastern Conference Nominees
Frederik Andersen (Toronto Maple Leafs) – 32-17-5, 2.74 goals-against average, 0.920 save percentage, leads league in saves (1722), five shutouts
Tuukka Rask (Boston Bruins) – 26-11-4, 2.28 goals-against average, 0.919 save percentage
Andrei Vasilevskiy (Tampa Bay Lightning) – 38-12-3, 2.41 goals-against average, 0.926 save percentage, leads NHL in shutouts (7), third in saves (1591)
Winner – Andrei Vasilevkiy. The top fantasy goaltender this season. Great value if you were able to draft the 16th ranked (pre-season) Yahoo goaltender.
Actor in a Supporting Role
Western Conference Nominees
Dustin Brown (Los Angeles Kings) – 65-19-26-45, plus-24, 156 hits
Evander Kane (San Jose Sharks) – 64-21-24-45, tied for fifth in NHL shots on goal (236), 131 hits
Jonathan Marchessault (Vegas Golden Knights) – 62-22-43-65, third in NHL plus/minus (plus-32)
Eric Staal (Minnesota Wild) – 66-34-31-65, tied for fifth in NHL goals, 182 shots on goal, three short-handed points
Eastern Conference Nominees
Mathew Barzal (New York Islanders) – 66-18-49-67, top rookie scorer
Sean Couturier (Philadelphia Flyers) – 66-29-34-63, plus-26, 195 shots on goal
Vincent Trocheck (Florida Panthers) – 63-24-33-57, 110 hits, 220 shots on goal
Tom Wilson (Washington Capitals) – 61-11-18-29, second in NHL penalty minutes (154), eighth in hits (185)
Winner – Vincent Trocheck. A mild upset, but the under-rated Panther contributes in just about every roto category there is.
Actor in a Leading Role
Western Conference Nominees
Brent Burns (San Jose Sharks) – 66-10-42-52, second in NHL shots on goal (271)
Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche) – 57-31-46-77, averaging 1.35 points-per game, tops in league
Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers) – 65-30-49-79, new face of the NHL
Tyler Seguin (Dallas Stars) – 65-34-26-60, fifth in NHL goals, third in shots on goal (260)
Blake Wheeler (Winnipeg Jets) – 65-18-56-74, second in NHL in power play points (34)
Eastern Conference Nominees
Taylor Hall (New Jersey Devils) – 61-30-42-72
Nikita Kucherov (Tampa Bay Lightning) – 64-33-52-85, tops league in points, seventh in shots on goal (229), tied for fourth in power-play points (31)
Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh Penguins) – 62-36-43-79, tied for fourth in power-play points (31)
Alexander Ovechkin (Washington Capitals) – 65-40-32-72, leads NHL in goal scoring and shots on goal (279), 117 hits
Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay Lightning) – 66-27-50-77, plus-23, tied for fourth in NHL power-play points (31)
Winner – Alexander Ovechkin. Still the king. Multi-category stud still wears the crown atop the fantasy hockey throne in rotisserie leagues.
Best Picture
Which team looks as though they will go all the way and have their names etched on the Stanley Cup after all is said and done this season.
Western Conference Nominees
Nashville Predators – 93 points (most in West), plus-46 goal differential
Vegas Golden Knights – 89 points, plus-45 goal differential
Winnipeg Jets – 87 points, plus-45 goal differential
Eastern Conference Nominees
Boston Bruins – 88 points, plus-51goal differential
Pittsburgh Penguins – 80 points, two-time reigning Cup champs
Tampa Bay Lightning – 94 points (most in East), plus-58 goal differential
Washington Capitals – 81 points, less pressure
Winner – Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bolts have what will prove to be the right mix of depth, high end talent, veteran experience, skilled youth and goaltending. It will be difficult to get past the Penguins, but the final pieces were put in place when they acquired J.T. Miller and Ryan McDonagh.
