[ad_1] Pakistan lost the first Test by an innings and 47 runs in Multan. (PC: X.com) From the unimaginable to the inevitable, Pakistan etched their name into the record books for the wrong reasons. They became the first team in Test history to lose by an innings after posting over 550 runs in the first innings. England sealed one of their most remarkable victories, winning the first Test by an innings and 47 runs on Day 5 in Multan. The match seemed to be heading for a draw after England declared their first innings at 823/7, with Harry Brook (317) and Joe Root (262) providing the bulk of the runs on a flat pitch. The Test took a dramatic turn in favour of the tourists when Pakistan suffered a batting collapse late on the fourth day. While the conditions remained relatively flat, England’s pacers exploited the new ball in the third session on Day 4, making the pitch appear unplayable at times, as cracks opened up and the bounce became unpredictable. Fatigue from spending 150 overs in the field caught up with the Pakistan batters, reducing them to 82/6 before a late rescue effort from Agha Salman and Aamer Jamal offered some hope. With Abrar Ahmed hospitalised, England needed just three wickets to secure victory and might have done so earlier had they not dropped four catches on Day 4. Salman and Jamal scored valiant half-centuries, but the task proved too great. England’s ever-reliable Jack Leach spun his side to what had seemed an improbable win, taking the final three wickets to seal the match. England’s rapid scoring rate opened the door for a result, and full credit goes to their bowlers for capitalising on the opportunity. Chris Woakes led the charge, with valuable support from the less experienced Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse. Pakistan’s struggles at home continue, as they set yet another unwanted record. What should have been a straightforward task of surviving the final four sessions on a batter-friendly pitch turned into a familiar story of collapse. Following a recent series defeat against Bangladesh, the hosts once again crumbled under pressure. This crushing defeat further damages Pakistan’s already faltering Test record, stretching their losing streak to six consecutive matches. With Pakistan cricket at its lowest point, criticism was inevitable after such a result. Here are some of the top reactions. “It’s a question of positive cricket from England or lack of endurance by Pakistan to describe today’s result. A team with a great cricketing history lacking a victory in the last 10 Test matches on home soil is not what we need to see,” Brad Hogg on X. “I’m sure bowlers will be questioning the quality of this track because they bend their back and nothing has happened,” Ramiz Raja said on a local TV channel. “You start questioning why such a surface was provided and why are we playing on such a surface at home.” “Pakistan Cricket is a gift that keeps giving,” wrote Aakash Chopra on X. “Babar Azam needs rest,” Basit Ali said on his YouTube channel. “He should be the one saying, ‘I need to rest’. It’s been 18 innings without a significant performance. Any other player would have been dropped after three games, like Fawad Alam. This is the harsh reality.” “220 runs in the third innings depending on the kind of lead you have can also be a good score,” Shan Masood on the 3rd innings collapse. “The trick is for us to learn from England, they found ways to get 20 wickets, and you can’t win without that. Yes, we have the 2nd innings to improve on but the most important thing is to learn how to pick up 20 wickets.” “I wasn’t upset with the surface here,” said Pakistan head coach Jason Gillespie. “It’s pretty much what we expected and what we thought was going to be the best opportunity to play well in the game. If you look at our first innings, we put up a score of 550 and that part was fine. No one was saying anything about the surface then. It was only when we didn’t get our plans right and execute our skills with the ball that everyone started to talk about the surface.

Rohit survives an early scare to rack up a match-winning 104 for India
ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, Birmingham India 314-9 (50 overs):Rohit 104, Mustafizur 5-59 Bangladesh 286 (48 overs):Shakib 66, Bumrah 4-55 India won by 28 runs Scorecard; Group table; Schedule.
India finally confirmed their place in the World Cup semi-finals with a comfortable if not flawless win which eliminated spirited Bangladesh.
After Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul hit the highest opening partnership of the tournament, a fine 180, India ran out of steam to post a disappointing 314.
Bangladesh needed to win their final two games to have any chance of progressing to a first semi-final.
But despite another half century from Shakib al Hasan they fell short.
An England win against New Zealand in Durham on Wednesday is likely to see both sides join India and holders Australia in next week’s semi-finals.

Middle order slowing India down?
India captain Virat Kohli met supporter Charu Latta Patel at the end of the match
India returned to the top of the ODI ratings above England last week and are full of experienced, proven world-class players.
But this match again showed up some familiar shortcomings which could stand between them and a third World Cup title.
Given the platform of such an outstanding start, their middle order failed to kick on as 162-0 at halfway became 314-9 at the end.
Rohit was given a life on nine when Tamim Iqbal dropped him and the opener made Bangladesh pay, smashing five sixes as he and Rahul clocked up the seventh-best opening stand in World Cup history.

‘India fans can’t believe it!’ – Kohli caught on boundary
He looked in terrific nick as he became just the second player to score four centuries in a single World Cup and well set to make a mammoth score.
But he slashed a catch to Liton Das to fall just a few balls later – the eighth time a batsman has lost his wicket between 100 and 110 in 24 centuries at this World Cup.
That triggered a period of nine wickets going down for 134 runs in the last 124 balls as captain Virat Kohli (26) and Rishabh Pant (48) failed to convert good starts – Kohli caught on the same boundary he complained was ‘crazily short’ just two days ago.
MS Dhoni – criticised at home for his slow going in defeat to England on Sunday – divided opinion again with his knock of 35 from 33 balls, with the veteran out in the last over of the innings as Bangladesh bowler Mustafizur Rahman was rewarded for some canny death bowling with a five-for.
Good – but not good enough
India’s total felt well short of what they could have hit, and Bangladesh would have started their chase in optimistic mood – especially as they chased down 322 in barely 41 overs to beat West Indies at Taunton.
Tamim, keen to make up for his costly drop, looked in great form early on, smacking three fours in the first three overs but India had already put the brakes on by the time he chopped on in the 10th over.
Bangladesh were never able to keep up with the required run rate and lost wickets at a regular rate to ease tension among the largely India-supporting crowd.

Soumya chips the ball straight to Kohli in the covers as India get a second
Shakib went past 50 for the sixth time in the tournament – a feat only matched by India’s own little master Sachin Tendulkar, who scored seven half centuries in the 2003 edition – but he was one of three victims for Hardik Pandya when he chipped a slower ball to Dinesh Karthik for 66.
A seventh-wicket partnership of 66 between Sabbir Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin briefly raised hopes but a lack of big hitting proved decisive – Bangladesh managed just two sixes.
The lower order kept life interesting, with 36 needed from the last three overs, but Jasprit Bumrah struck with two brilliant yorkers to wrap it up.
While India have their issues lower down their batting order, their bowling attack may be their best bet of World Cup victory, with Pandya’s variations backing up the pace of Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, and the returning Bhuvneshwar Kumar moving the ball both ways at the top of the innings.
‘Rohit the best around’
India captain Virat Kohli:“Bangladesh played some really good cricket and deserve credit for the fight they put up. We had to work hard for the win and we are happy to see a Q in front of our name now.
“This was a team picked specifically for this ground with a small boundary. We can’t be stubborn and play the same team every game.
“I have been watching Rohit for years now, he is the best ODI player around. He is a joy to watch and is having the tournament of his life.
“When he plays well we know we are heading for a big score. He gives everyone confidence to go out and bat.”
Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza:“It was a good effort – Mustafizur bowled well – but if one of the batsmen could have got to 80 or 90, it might have been different.
“We were asking too much in the end. A bit of luck didn’t go our way either.”

Bangladesh hand Afghanistan another defeat in the World Cup
Bangladesh handbag at the back of the World Championship by another beautiful all-round display by Shakib Al Hasan, she defeated Afghanistan here to find herself in a single point to move from England prior to the host country's crunch meeting with Australia on Lord & # 39; s on Tuesday.
And fitting for a nickname the Tigers, she stole into the long grass of the tournament that is ready to plunge into one of the leading parties taking off in the conclusion of this long group phase.

Afghan captain Gulbadin Naib takes his helmet off in disgust after losing his wicket
Although it is true that Bangladesh will probably have to beat Tuesday in Edgbaston and Pakistan during Lord & # 39; s three days thereafter to reach the semifinals, they remain able to disrupt the established population. order.
It was another day for Shakib, rightly considered to be & # 39; the world's best all-rounder right now, to pluck the many strings to his cricket stick. He made 51 of the 69 balls with the bat – the Bangladesh-dominated crowd in Southampton disappointed when trapped – and then returned the best figures of the tournament from 10-1-29-5.
India's Yuvraj Singh – against Ireland in 2011 – is the only other man to take five wickets and win 50 during a World Cup competition. Many neutrals and cricket romantics are desperately looking for Afghanistan to win at least one World Cup, but Bangladesh did not have time for such sentiment. Their 62 run victory was well deserved.

Afghanistan set a very slow position
After putting Bangladesh in the club, the Afghan bowlers brilliantly squeezed the flow of runs during the middle overs their opponents.
It was Mujeeb Ur Rahman who really shone for Afghanistan, with a total of three wickets after achieving the early breakthrough of Liton Das, who misled an attempt at extra coverage where Hashmatullah Shahidi managed to get enough get your fingers under the ball in a low take.
Shakib and Tamim Iqbal built with their v consecutive 50-headed stubbornness in one-day games before Mohammad Nabi fooled Tamim with a slower ball that hit the top of the center and the stump. Shakib, who enjoys a pretty beautiful World Cup, successfully assessed a resignation from Ibbw before he passed 50 and Australian David Warner as leader of the tournament.
But he succumbed to 51 for the day and 476 for the World Cup when Mujeeb did him with a disguised birth that cut back and tapped Shakib's blocks for the middle stump. His dismissal caused Bangladesh problems. Soumya Sarkar became the third victim of Mujeeb and Mahmudullah, who are heavily connected, stumbled through the single wicket.
He did not come to the field. There was no interruption because Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan and Dawlat Zadran hardly offered any scoring opportunities at the border. Indeed, between 25 and 37, Bangladesh did not skip any four or six out of 73 balls. Luckily Mushfiqur was ticking Rahim and he released the rope to finally put an end to that torturing guard and to pick up his half century.
It was only at death that Bangladesh was able to bring them totally closer to expectations.

[Bangladesh] [Grenzen] [Grenzen] [Grenzen] [Grenzen] [Grenzen] Waving the national flag and holding cuddly tigers on their feet, their passion has certainly enlightened this world championship.
Afghanistan, determined to claim their first victory of the tournament and their second in the history of the World Cup, impressively explained. ah opened next to Gulbaddin Shah for the first time, a flurry of boundaries arose before Rahmat fell softly for 24, cutting to halfway the unstoppable Shakib.
It stopped the early momentum of Afghanistan and now Bangladesh was pleased to exert pressure with Mosaddek and Mehidy Hasan turning the screw. If the goal was to chase away the batsmen, it would have worked with Hashmatullah, who almost ran out in the neighborhood, he was disturbed by Mushfiqur who shuffled impatiently along the track.
He is the only batsman who has been interrupted twice in this tournament. Gulbadin walked towards his half-century before he became the victim of a cunning plan by the Bangladesh captain, Mashrafe Mortaza. In an attempt to drive, the Afghan opener shot directly at Liton, positioned at a short extra cover, to take a sharp ankle-height catch.
Shakib later claimed his third victim that, Mohammad Nabi sauntered through the gate, and with the run well over seven-and-more and increasing, Afghanistan fell apart.
All Bangladesh had to continue to build up the pressure of point balls. Asghar Afghan reached 20 before losing patience, Suk-sweeping Shakib to be caught in the deep.
There was a small resistance from Najibullah Zadran and Samiullah Shinwari before the first was stranded to become the fifth victim of Shakib. It was the first time that the Bengali player had taken five wickets at the World Cup.

As the old saying goes, catches winmatches. The game of cricket has seen some unbelievable catches being taken on the field, and here is a collection of the best 10.Jonty Rhodes Widely acknowledged as someone who redefined fielding in cricket
The magnificent South African fielder Jonty Rhodes was famous for his acrobatics and reflexes, and the West Indies' little master Gus Logie was known for his foot speed in the field. But there have been plenty left carrying the flame of these two legends since, with the following generations producing the most amazing fielding feats we've ever seen. Here is a brief selection. Enjoy!
Like all Australian cricketers, Steven Smith is a livewire on the field.
His catch that dismissed Brendon McCullum of Chennai Super Kings was amazing.
He ran back from mid-wicket and, even as two other fielders approached the ball, kept his cool to pouch it despite taking a tumble.
The Caribbean international took this catch at deep midwicket against Australia ,  reaching out for it with one hand. Despite being a tall man, he balanced his weight well and did not cross over the boundary ropes.

Cricket Betting Tips Approaches For India Vs Sri Lanka Test Series
An Introduction
Test matches are scheduled over five full days, with a minimum 90 overs due to be bowled over cricket match tips of three sessions on each of those five days. The three sessions, commonly known as the morning, afternoon and evening sessions, last for around two hours a piece and just like the shorter formats of the game, each over is made up of 6 ball overs in cricket betting tips free.
Each side gets the opportunity to bat twice in a Test match, with the cricket  tips free winner being the side that scores the most combined runs over their two innings. Teams are made up of 11 cricketers a side with players kitted out in traditional white clothing and a red ball is used by both sides. Each innings is ended when the opposition side bowls the other side out, with 10 wickets required in order to achieve this. Batting sides that bat really well can choose to declare an innings at any given point, effectively deciding that they have made enough runs at that point in the match to start looking at bowling the opposition out. This happens quite a lot in Test match cricket for various reasons.
Tumblr media
If neither side is bowled out twice then we have the possibility of a drawn match, even after five days of action.
1 - Betting On Test Cricket Online
The ICC have been reluctant to hand out further Test playing status' to the likes of Ireland, Kenya and the Netherlands in recent years, despite all three Associate member nations upsetting multiple Full member nations in various One Day Cricket World Cup's. The new brigade aren't helped by the time it took for many of the above nations to register their first Test victory. The now mighty India took 24 Tests before winning their first match whereas New Zealand took an incredible 42 attempts. The most recent nation to gain Full Test status, Bangladesh, took 34 goes before registering their first Test win.
2 - Test Betting Odds Explained
Test cricket odds are very similar to football odds, in that match result betting accounts for either both teams winning the Test match or the match ending in a draw. Regardless of the odds format, if you are serious about making money betting on Test cricket, you need to understand what betting odds represent. To put it simply as possible, betting odds reflect the probability of a given outcome occurring. This probability is often referred to as the 'implied probability'. For example, let's say that India are at odds of 2.60 to win an upcoming Test match against Pakistan. What do the odds of 2.60 for India represent? In this example, according to the bookmaker odds, India has a 38.5% chance of winning the Test match. The implied probability can be calculated as:
3 - Test Cricket Value Bets
Once you have developed an understanding of Test cricket betting odds, it's important that you understand the concept of betting value. What is betting value? Betting value is a situation where you consider the chances of a given outcome to be greater than the probability implied by the bookmaker's odds. To put it as bluntly as possible, you should only bet when you believe their is betting value on offer.
4 - Test Cricket Betting Explained
Win, Lose or Draw are the three possible outcomes for both matches and series.
Top team innings batsman is always a popular market with punters. Whereas in limited overs cricket it often pays to back a top order batsman in this market, in Tests it could often pay to back someone further down the order who might bat when conditions are easier (older ball, flatter pitch, tired bowling attack etc.) Naturally conditions dictate the likelihood of this scenario happening - read the below strategies section for a more in depth cricket betting tips guide on this subject.
The pitch looks flat, the sun is shining and the opposition opening batsmen looked in great form in the previous Test. Losing the toss and fielding first in this type of scenario can see a pre-match result outcome bet all but lose before a ball is even bowled, as its odds on that the opposition are going to rack up 500+ before your team even get a bat.
5 - Best Test Cricket Betting Strategies
Read up on ground history to see how a surface tends to play. Will it suit fast bowlers on the first day? Will spinners gain significant advantages through a dry, dusty surface in the later parts of the Test? Will cracks appear in the surface of the pitch towards the end of the match, making it very difficult for the side batting last. Or alternatively will the surface stay pretty much the same over the five days, meaning each days play should follow the previous days because conditions haven't altered enough to favour a certain skill? and its statsguru page gives a full history of all Test match cricket grounds and players and can guide us in the correct direction when placing our Test match cricket bets.
6 - Test Cricket Betting Spreadsheet
Keeping a record of your betting results is key to being a profitable T20 bettor. By keeping track of each of your bets you will soon see what you are doing right and where you are going wrong. To assist you, we've developed the bettingexpert T20 cricket betting spreadsheet. It's free and available to download now.
7 - Selecting A Bookmaker For Test Cricket Betting
William Hill offer the widest range of markets for betting on Test cricket online in our opinion. They cover all the obvious leading markets that we mentioned above, plus offer specialist side markets that we like such as individual player performance points over/under markets. This is where a player is scored 1pt a run, 10pts a catch, 20pts a wicket or 25pts a stumping throughout the duration of a match.
8 - Test Cricket Free Bets & Promotional Offers
Paddy Power not often have the best cricket betting odds, they also offer the widest range of promotional offers on many cricket markets. One such promotion that has appeared over recent Ashes series has been their generous offer to double your original odds if your top team batsmen bet scores a century. This is a great offer if you fancied a top order batsman to top score but thought his 3.00 price might be on the skinny side. If you backed him and he made a hundred, Paddy Power would pay out as a 6.00 winner.
9 - Test Cricket Live Streaming
Live Test cricket streaming can often be found at a number of bookmakers hroughout the year. Test matches hosted in Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, New Zealand and the UAE (where Pakistan play they home matches) are broadcast live alongside their cricket odds, meaning punters can place bets in play alongside live cricket streaming HD pictures for free. The only exception to the above is when England or India are touring the above countries.
10 - Test Cricket Betting Tips
Profitable Test cricket betting tips and predictions are not as easy to locate on the web as we might like. In fact, going on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, you'll find any number of so called cricket tipsters sharing their predictions. But how many of these tipsters are truly profitable? At bettingexpert we believe in full transparency, especially when it comes to our own cricket tips. When you visit our cricket betting tips page, you will see each of the current cricket betting tips available as well as each tipster's overall betting record, their ROI% and their profit/loss.

ClickCric's Champions Trophy XI
As the Champions Trophy 2017 has finally come to an end, a roller-coaster ride for Pakistan saw them winning the competition for the first ever time. With some incredible performances throughout this year's campaign, ClickCric has decided to amalgamate the best XI of this year's Champions Trophy 2017.
1. Rohit Sharma (IND):
Opening the batting-order would be right-handed Rohit Sharma. Despite a duck in the final against Pakistan, Rohit finished number 2 in the highest run-getters in the competition, with 304 runs from 5 games at an average of 76.00. The only batsman who gave a run for his spot was Fakhar Zaman, who amassed 252 runs from 4 innings this tournament with an average of 63.00, however, the higher average and higher aggregate score make Rohit Sharma an automatic choice.
2. Shikhar Dhawan (IND):
With ICC events, comes the form of Shikhar Dhawan. The left-hander won the Golden Bat award for scoring the highest number of runs in the campaign, as he made 338 runs with a healthy average of 67.60. His superior performances gave India strong batting starts in 4 out of the 5 games they played this tournament, with the final against Pakistan being the only exception. As the tournament's best batsman, Shikhar Dhawan is a no-brainer choice for our 2nd opening spot.
3. Tamim Iqbal (BAN):
The prolific run-getter from Bangladesh, Tamim Iqbal is in at number 3 in our best line-up of Champions Trophy 2017. The left-hander scored 293 runs from 4 innings for Bangladesh at the top of the order and finished the 3rd highest run-scorer in the tournament. He scored a brilliant 128 in the opening game against England, while contributing in every game for a rather pleasant campaign for his team, who were eliminated in the semis at the hands of India. Tamim's average of 73.25 also helps his case as number 3 in our team.
4. Joe Root (ENG):
England's Joe Root is an automatic choice at the number 4 position in our line-up, as the right-hander finished the tournament as the fourth highest run-getter. Root managed 258 runs from 4 innings, with a brilliant average of 86.00 and a strike-rate of 97.72. His brilliant performance of 133 not out in England's opening win against Bangladesh and a valuable contribution of 46 in England's semi-final loss to Pakistan, saw him as a deserving candidate for the number 3 position.
5. Virat Kohli (IND):
Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, makes it to our XI after amassing 258 runs from 5 matches along with an average of 129.00 and a strike-rate of 98.85. His incredible performances in the group stages and in the semis against Bangladesh proved important for the Indian team, as they made their way to the final. The only candidate close to Kohli, was Eoin Morgan, but Morgan's inferior aggregate of 208 from 4 innings, and average of 69.33, saw Kohli maintaining his place in the XI.
6. Ben Stokes (ENG):
The stylish left-handed all-rounder from England has been one of the standout all-rounders in the game of cricket since the last two years. Ben Stokes, who picked up 3 crucial wickets in the tournament, was pivotal in England's Champions Trophy campaign at home. With the bat, the left-hander also managed 184 runs from 3 innings this campaign, with an average of 92.00, and a strike-rate of 81.41. His incredible unbeaten innings of 102 in the game against Australia proved vital, as he helped England win the game from an improbable position.
Tumblr media
Hassan Ali was awarded the Man of the Tournament award
7. Sarfaraz Ahmed (c & wk) (PAK):
Captaining a young and inexperienced Pakistani side to their first ever Champions Trophy title, helped Sarfaraz Ahmed get a place as the captain of our team. To go with his captaincy skills is his batting skills, as he helped Pakistan win their virtual quarter-final against Sri Lanka in the group stages, with a brilliant 61 not out, and helped them qualify for the semis. His brilliant wicket-keeping skills also saw him pick up 9 catches in this tournament, to also make him the keeper of our XI.
8. Adil Rashid (ENG):
The English leg-spinner starts the list of bowlers in our XI. Being the highest wicket-taker as a spinner in the tournament, Rashid's 7 scalps make him a no-brainer choice in our XI. Taking wickets at an average of 20.28 in 3 matches, helped his stand for a place in our XI. With figures of 4/41 against New Zealand in an important encounter, Adil Rashid is an automatic choice in ClickCric's XI.
9. Hassan Ali (PAK):
Including Hassan Ali in the tournament's best XI is a no-brainer. With 13 wickets in the tournament at an average of 14.69 with an economy of 4.29 helped him gain the Golden Ball award. To go with that, he also won the Man of the Tournament award, as he helped Pakistan win the Champions Trophy with his timely breakthroughs. Including him in the ClickCric's XI is an automatic choice.
10. Junaid Khan (PAK):
Junaid Khan made a brilliant comeback into the Pakistani team after Wahab Riaz's injury, as the left-handed bowler picked up 8 wickets in the tournament from 4 matches. His amazing average of 19.37 and an economy of 4.58, has been a standout performer for Pakistan and along with Hassan Ali, formed a lethal duo for the team. His new ball strikes helped Pakistan win the Champions Trophy for the first time in their history.
11. Josh Hazlewood (AUS):
The only Australian in our XI is their standout bowler, Josh Hazlewood, which absolutely depicts the horrendous performances of Australians in the tournament. Hazlewood picked up 9 wickets in the only 3 games he played in the tournament, with an astonishing average of 15.77. The right-handed seamer completes ClickCric's best XI of the Champions Trophy.
12th Man. Fakhar Zaman (PAK):
The Pakistani opener is the 12th man of our squad after a brilliant batting performance at the top of the order for Pakistan, having also made his debut in this tournament. From 4 innings, the left-hander scored 2 fifties and a big 114 in the final against India, as he carried his team towards their first ever Champions Trophy.

Cricket World Cup: Pakistan shock England at Trent Bridge

Cricket World Cup: Pakistan shock England at Trent Bridge

Cricket World Cup: England’s Joe Root scores century v Pakistan
ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, Trent Bridge Pakistan 348-8 (50 overs):Mohammad Hafeez 84, Woakes 3-71 England 334-9 (50 overs):Root 107, Wahab 3-82 Pakistan won by 14 runs Scorecard. Table. Schedule
England suffered a stunning upset at the hands of inspired Pakistan in their second World Cup match at Trent Bridge.
The hosts and favourites were surprisingly lacklustre in the field as Pakistan, roared on by their noisy and vibrant fans, posted 348-8.
Even though England have made a habit of overhauling such targets, they were still faced with having to pull off the most successful chase in World Cup history.
And they were denied by the rejuvenated Pakistanis, who had lost their previous 11 one-day internationals including a 4-0 series defeat by England prior to the tournament and then a humiliation against West Indies on this ground on Friday.
Despite Joe Root’s 107, the first century of the tournament, and a 75-ball ton from Jos Buttler, England were restricted to 334-9 to lose by 14 runs.
In a tournament where the 10 teams play each other once to determine the semi-finalists, there are plenty of opportunities for England to get their campaign back on track, starting with Bangladesh in Cardiff on Saturday.
Pakistan, renowned for veering from shambolic to sublime in global tournaments, will look to continue their resurgence in Sri Lanka in Bristol on Friday.
The day the World Cup came to life
After England opened their tournament by beating South Africa at The Oval on Thursday, captain Eoin Morgan asserted that they will not go through the competition unbeaten.
Similarly, on Sunday, Pakistan bowling coach Azhar Mahmood defiantly claimed his side could reverse their fortunes and beat Morgan’s men.
Both were right.

Hafeez bowls Morgan for nine
Indeed, both sides were almost entirely transformed from their first matches. Whereas Pakistan improved immeasurably, England were inexplicably shoddy.
Not only that, but England often let their frustrations boil over in the field and there were a number of noticeable moments of tension between the two sides when they came to bat.
All of this was played out in an electric atmosphere, created mainly by Pakistan fans, whose near constant din was only dimmed when Root and Buttler were together.
The tension of the contest and energy of the crowd amounted to a wonderful occasion. This was the day that the World Cup came to life.
Root and Buttler tons not enough
On a slow pitch, England’s top order struggled for impetus against the tricky spin and hostile pace of Pakistan.
Media playback is not supported on this device
Roy trapped lbw by Shadab
Like South Africa on Thursday, Pakistan opened with spin and saw Shadab Khan trap Jason Roy lbw. When Ben Stokes edged Shoaib Malik behind, it meant Buttler arrived at 118-4 with 231 required from just under 28 overs.
He was immediately into his destructive stride, heaving sixes over the leg side and driving through the covers. At the other end, Root, who was dropped by Babar Azam on nine, accumulated runs with dabs and nudges.
While they were at the crease, England were on course for victory, but both fell just after reaching three figures.
Root sliced Shadab to short third man, Buttler (103) fell in almost identical fashion to the pace of Mohammad Amir.
Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali turned an equation of 61 from 39 balls to 29 from 14, but when both fell in successive Wahab Riaz deliveries, the game was up.
Quiz: Name the century-makers from the 2015 World Cup
Slapdash England punished
By the metric of their own team analyst, England put in their best fielding performance for four years in defeating South Africa. This must rank as one of their worst.

‘He’s normally got the safest of hands’ – Roy drops Hafeez on 14
Not only was the ground fielding littered with errors, but Roy put down the most straightforward chance off Mohammad Hafeez on 14. Hafeez went on to make 84.
Woakes at least equalled a World Cup record with four catches, three superbly taken on the boundary, but he was one of a number of disappointing bowlers – his 3-71 made more respectable by some improved death bowling.
Adil Rashid and Jofra Archer were expensive as only Moeen, who claimed 3-50, and Mark Wood, in the side for Liam Plunkett, provided any sort of control.
Pakistan, who were blown away by a barrage of West Indies bouncers on Friday, cashed in.
Openers Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq added 82 in 14 overs, with Babar then particularly harsh on Rashid in his 63. Hafeez was the most aggressive, while captain Sarfaraz Ahmed favoured the leg side for 55.
‘A great advertisement for the tournament’ – what they said
England captain Eoin Morgan:“It was a very good game of cricket and a great advertisement for the tournament. We’re bitterly disappointed to be on the wrong end of the result though.
“Trent Bridge is a high scoring ground, we felt the wicket was good, the outfield was rapid and we thought if we got partnerships going, 350 was in our grasp.
“Joe and Jos kept us in the game. If we could have got a substantial partnership earlier, we might have got over the line.”
Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed:“It was a great team effort. The bowlers bowled really well today.
“We tried a couple of different things – we started with Shadab because we know their openers are not good against spin.
“Fielding is a very important part. In the last ODI series it was different. Today we fielded better and we bowled better.”
Former England captain Michael Vaughan on TMS:“England’s fielding certainly cost them 30 or 40 runs.
“Full credit to Pakistan – the support they’ve had, the atmosphere they created. I think we’re in for a fantastic tournament because of all the support.
“I think we’re going right to the wire.”

Bangladesh pull off second-highest run chase in World Cup history to see off the West Indies
It was not just the fact that Bangladesh completed the second highest pursuit in the history of the World Cup, but the gaping ease with which they did it.
Of course nothing seems impossible anymore in cricket, but there was something really overwhelming in the way Bangladesh, inspired by the beautiful Shakib Al Hasan, pursued 322 with 8.3 overs to save for the semi-final ambitions of the West To pulverize India.
This World Cup had missed an exciting run-chase, but this halfway home fixation in the group stage – one billed as a must-win for both parties – compensated for that. And then some.

Only the famous pursuit of Ireland to sedate England in Bengaluru in 2011 was the summit of total Bangladesh that was effortlessly pursued here in Taunton
Shakib should belong to t most under-valued players in world cricket but he really underlined his world class status here and hit an innings of 124 of 99 balls that go straight to the World Reel highlights reel and Bengali legend.
Nobody expects Bangladesh to make the semi-finals, this victory will keep them in touch with the top four.
Although two of their fireworks in Chris Gayle and Andre Russell did not ignite, their score of 321 for eight, anchored by Shai Hope & # 39; s 96 and 70 from Evin Lewis, still looked more than competitive .
But they all threw it away with a fielding performance that was torturing to see. They gifted Bangladesh 25 alone with their whimsical bowling.
The short ball plan A that worked so well in their tournament opener against Pakistan has simply not worked since then.
And, perhaps,] To the great disappointment of those Somerset residents who were here in the summer of 2016 in the summer of Having claimed 2016 by Gayle, the star of the West Indies fell at an early stage.
Gayle had not even managed to get rid of 13 balls when I protested against Mohammad Saifuddin and taken to wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim to take a sharp low catch.

It was left to Lewis and Hope to rebuild that early setback and they continued to do so, albeit at
Indeed, the 32 runs down to 10 overs crawled were the lowest opening Powerplay total of the World Cup so far.
63 balls were needed for the first shot to clear the ropes, but the relatively conservative West Indian approach did not provide stability against their blow against England last Friday
Lewis, di he has fought so far in this tournament so far, would have been
They had just begun to step things up when Lewis tried to get hold of Shakib.
With Hope keen to be the hare's tortoise, larger hammers came in to inflict damage.

Shimron Hetmyer hits a huge six van Mosaddek Hossain while he pulled 50 for his side "
Shimron Hetmerger hits a massive six from Mosaddek Hossain while he picked up 50 for his side
Literally in the case of the enthusiastic Nicholas Pooran, whose almighty six one of the terracotta stirring tiles stand on the Sir Ian Botham and dented the ball.
Pooran looked at the state of mind, but the fun was short-lived when he made another huge swing and Soumya Sarkar on safe distance to the rope found
These West Indian guns are too often specialized in mere cameos and Shimron Hetmerger has riveted three amazing maximums in shooting 50 to just 25 balls – the third fastest half century of the tournament. But two balls later, his stand-cleaning performance was brought to an abrupt end when Tamim Iqbal took a brilliant full-stretch catch at midwicket. Andre Russell was even shorter, Mustafizur Rahman off his second ball.
Nevertheless, the run rate of the West Indies had risen so much that 330 or more were in sight. Jason Holder signaled his attempt to pass to first-ball six from Shakib, then fired to tournament-best 105-meter shot, but only reached 33.
Given the old-fashioned pedestrian rhythm of his innings, it was ironic.
Oshane Thomas suffered a heart-in-mouth moment when he clumsily knocked the luminous bails and rehearsed a shot after a missed swell. He was extradited, but 321 felt like a total less than it could have been.

Bangladesh certainly did not seem fearless during the first few overs of their pursuit, w ith Sarkar hit two sixes when they fought past 50 before being fooled by a slower ball by Andre Russell Gayle barely had to move to escape.
Their chances of winning always depended on extensive cooperation between Tamim Iqbal and Shakib. While Tamim did not convert during this World Cup, Shakib was in glorious form, with the 121 against England in Cardiff the high point.
A clenched fist and a huge cheer from the many Bengali fans in the crowd
The only man with more for Bangladesh was with him in the middle and it took a moment of magic from Sheldon Cottrell to remove Tamim at the point of his

The defeat was anything but the hope that the West Indians had to reach the semifinals of the World Cup
Mushfiqur fell cheaply, but remained hope for Bangladesh, while the bowling in the West Indies so often remained erratic. Russell struggled visibly with his knees, stumbled away behind balls and occasionally he went to the floor in his sequel. Twice he left the field inconsolable for treatment.
Shakib was released at 55 when he pulled Russell and both wicket-keeper Hope and Shannon Gabriel out of the catch for fear of colliding. Shakib overtook Australian Aaron Finch as the leading scorer of the World Cup and picked up his hundred of the 83 balls with great coverage. Apparently an accomplished professional, hardly celebrating Shakib, knowing that there was still work to be done.
He was skilfully assisted by Liton in the crucial center of the chase, his recall proving to be a master. He took Thomas to the cleaners in 38th lake with three towering six in a row to get hold of the victory.
Those two sent them home with Liton, while they pulled another short ball from Gabriel to the border for four. Just awesome.
