Not Bambie Thug and her inability to count.
‘There were *thinks of a second* top 6, minus 1 who are freedom fighters and I adore all of us.’
Are those horns impacting on your numeracy BT? Only top 5 counts for anything and you weren’t in it. Israel bested you. Bitter much?
All of those constants who were POS people to Eden Golan (Australia, the UK, Switzerland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Greece, Norway) all of their countries gave Israel the full 10 or 12 points (16 in total which counts the rest of the world). And some of their juries refused to say the word Israel when they read out the votes in rehearsals. Petty bullshit. Petra Mede kept it professional unlike everyone else. They must be sobbing for a week that people voted for a contestant they hated and bullied because of her nationality. Amazing that not one of these contestants older than Eden could be professional for a week.
I’m glad that this shitshow is over. The worst Eurovision in history and not because as pro Palestinians love to say, all of this could have been avoided if Israel wasn’t there. All of this could have been avoided if pro Palestinians could have controlled themselves on their disgusting hate fest hate spree that they never would have subjected anyone else to. As far as I can see, none of them want to take responsibility for their threats, violence and hatred. Israel did better than I expected, it wasn’t worth it for them to win. Getting top 5 plus more televotes than almost everyone else apart from Croatia, is more than enough.

Blake's costumes, rated
Every time I do one of these, someone asks me for another one. So... I guess I'm doing the set?
Here are my thoughts on Blake's costumes in Blake's 7. Get ready for a whole lot of brown. Screengrabs from here (they prefer their images copied, not linked) and record of what Blake wears when from here. Here's the same for Avon, Servalan and Jenna.
As seen in The Way Back, Space Fall, Cygnus Alpha, and Time Squad.
This is Blake in his normal, pre-Liberator clothes, and wow are they boring. This is clearly a man who was waiting for any opportunity to cut loose. Look how small his sleeves are! This isn't the clothing of a freedom fighter; it looks like the uniform of a handyman at an eco-friendly adventure park. It's not really Blake at all. 3/10.
As seen in The Web, Seek-Locate-Destroy, Mission to Destiny, Duel, Project Avalon, Breakdown, Deliverance, and Orac.
I was going to say that this is a long time to be wearing the same outfit, but at a closer look, Blake does change his shirt. Thank goodness, because the question of who does the laundry on the Liberator has bothered me before, and I didn't like to think of Blake being stinky for most of series A.
Also, this is a great outfit. I feel like the way it has four different elements and textures should be too much, but it's working for me, particularly the chainmail-esque sleeve detail. 8/10.
As seen in The Web, Seek-Locate-Destroy, Duel, Project Avalon, Bounty, and Orac.
Jenna made the pink version of this look cool; Blake looks like a dad in a National Trust car park. There might be poo bags for the family Labrador in one of his many pockets. Honestly, kudos to the Blake's 7 costume designers for this one: obviously functional and yet perfectly of a piece with the more ridiculous outfits in the series. I don't love to look at it but I have to admire it. 6/10.
As seen in Redemption, Shadow, Horizon, and Killer.
In which Blake appears to be wearing an entire cow. Honestly, I love this outfit, from the sleeves to the boots. It's Romantic hero meets Robin Hood, it's ridiculous, it's wonderful. Gareth Thomas must have been so warm. 15/10.
As seen in Shadow, and Voice From the Past.
I got a telling-off in the notes on my Jenna post for not including her in the karate ghi. So let the record stand that I approve of the karate ghi universally for Blake's 7 characters. I particularly appreciate that Avon and Jenna have theirs fastened up, while Blake's is open halfway to his midriff. Quarry chic, you can't beat it. 8/10.
As seen in Weapon, Pressure Point, Trial, Countdown, and Voice From the Past.
This feels to me like the classic Blake outfit. It's like Avon's bajillion studded black leather jackets: green leather and bishop's sleeves are simply what Blakes in their natural environment should wear. But it's not quite as batshit as some of his other outfits and so I can't love it quite as much. 7/10.
As seen in Horizon.
I accept that I'm straining the definition of "outfit" here but come on, I couldn't not include this moment. I love the artfully placed grime; I love the way, it being the 70s, that Blake's trousers come up to his navel; I love the fact that this is, to the best of my recollection, the one and only scene of someone taking their top off in the whole of Blake's 7. 10/10.
As seen in Horizon.
The Romantic hero look is BACK. Here Blake is starring as a rebel version of Colin Firth's Mr Darcy. Get this man a lake to jump in. It is my firm belief that no man has yet existed who doesn't look good in this kind of shirt, and Gareth Thomas is no exception. 9/10.
As seen in Hostage.
This is one of those "who wore it best?" moments and I have to be honest and say: Avon did. The rule that Avon should wear tight things, preferably leather, and Blake should wear loose things, preferably with massive sleeves, is not being disproven here. 4/10.
As seen in Hostage, Gambit, The Keeper, and Star One.
There's just too much stuff going on here. The chainmail effect outfit was also quite busy but in a way that made Blake look bigger and bolder. This is the opposite; he looks almost smothered by it. There's a lot of fabric around his neck. It's brown and there's leather, but Blake doesn't look at home. 4/10.
As seen in Blake.
Normally I rate these costumes based partly on how good they look, and partly on how well I feel they suit the character, and normally those two things are in alignment and it's all good. But here, I'm so torn.
Blake looks like shit. He's wearing some kind of horrific quilted knee-length gilet like a cross between a knight and someone who spends too much money in Jack Wills. It's too big for him and the little grab-handles on the front are... well, they're not very functional without Avon around to be grabbing him, are they? But on the other hand, it would be really weird if he looked good at this point in his story. The costume designers have judged this perfectly, and I hate it. 5/10.
#blake's 7#roj blake#gareth thomas#costuming#for the record this one was a lot more fun than i was expecting

I FINISHED IT
Thoughts below cut because of spoilers. I'll get this over with first though - I didn't hate it, in fact right now it's sitting at a solid 7/10. Warning that this got long because as I said...I got a lot to say.
Biggest takeaway is it gets MUCH better in the last act of game. The writing in the beginning was rough but I definitely thought it was worth sticking it out for.
The main plot is...not great. It suffers from the same thing Inquisition did, which is that two out of our three main villains are just mid. Mid writing, mid combat, mid designs (ok Ghilan'nain was decent but Elgar'nan? Bleh.) It made the stakes easy to forget and not care about. I do like how one plotline was handled, though, which I'll get to in a minute (you know who it is.)
The companions took a moment to grow on me, but they did grow on me. By the end I did really care about all of them. Davrin, Emmrich, and Neve are probably my top three, but due to certain choices I made in the endgame, both Harding and Bellara are up there too.
Like I said the last act was the best - the conclusion of all the companions' personal quests were satisfying (to varying degrees), and certain choices in the endgame gutted me in the best possible way.
Which brings me to Solas - maybe hot take, but I thoroughly enjoyed him as a villain. Scenes with him were definitely some of the high points of the game, and that ending.
"I am a fool...who has finally met his match" I am rattling at the bars of my cage. This is absolutely what I was hoping for.
Leading us to Rook. I loved Chiara, she felt alive in a way my Inquisitors never really have. Are there a few things I'm headcanoning differently? Yes. But overall she's only beaten by my Warden for favorite Dragon Age PC.
The factions were a mixed bag. I loved the Mourn Watch, especially as a Mourn Watch Rook. The Grey Wardens were also amazing - I loved all the content with them. The Shadow Dragons were also cool; I'm always down for freedom fighters, and I loved seeing Dorian and Maevaris. Veil Jumpers and Lords of Fortune didn't leave much of an impression on me, and I share a lot of other people's grievances about the Crows.
Now, what they did to Dragon Age's lore is where my opinion sours a bit. To me, it definitely feels like a soft reset for the setting - they've wrapped up all these loose ends in the worst possible way they could have. Having everything relate back to the Evanuris was a mistake, imo, and things like the Blight and the Titans, as well Andrastism (which took a MAJOR backseat in this game omg) should've remained their own thing. To say nothing of them deciding to have southern Thedas decimated by the Blight off-screen. Right now I'm wondering what else there is for these games to even be about now, and that post-credits scene did not exactly spark hope.
One thing that deserves its own bullet point - Bioware continues to absolutely fumble the Qunari. At this point I don't know if they even know how to write them without being cartoonishly problematic about it. Whoever thought the Antaam were a good idea - especially those designs - need to be hit over the head. Proverbially, of course.
OH! I don't think the Inquisitor was necessary either. We don't need to see our previous character each game. If there's another Dragon Age game, please let Rook stay home. They deserve to retire after this.
When it comes to things like combat and puzzles, I'm definitely not the person to look to for complex critique. I enjoyed them, but I also acknowledge that those mechanics did seem simple and repetitive. I'll definitely take turn-based, tactical combat any day of the week, but I had fun with what it was.
Speaking of mechanics, I do want to call out a couple smaller things I think the game did well. I liked the wardrobe and transmog system - though, as always, the clothes and armors could've used improvement. I also loved that it was so easy to respec and try out new builds. And the inventory system! Absolutely loved that I don't have to shift through a bunch of junk to find things my OC and companions could use - having items set to Rook or a particular companion and finding upgrades to them is definitely a great way to handle it.
The levels were big and beautiful, but I kept getting turned around, and the map markers ranged from "generally helpful" to "how the hell do I get over there?"
I enjoyed the art style, personally, I don't have any real gripes with it.
Anyways, like I said, overall I give it a 7 out of 10. Sure, once the "just finished the game" high wears off I might lower it to a 6/10, but I don't see it going lower. There was ultimately more I enjoyed then didn't. And now I'll be daydreaming about Chiara and Davrin living happily ever after, going on adventures with their griffon son.

Sonic the Hedgehog. One of the greatest and most attractive characters ever thought up. He can run at sound speed, take out enemies in a flash, and best of all, he's blue colored and knows how to handle the females. Speaking of females, the Sonic universe might also be classified as "Hot Chick Heaven" because there's such a mess of very beautiful and tough women that it will make you love the franchise even more! And since Valentine's Day is around the corner, I've been inspired to make a top 10 list of the most beautiful female Sonic characters. Grab yourself a snack and a glass of orange juice, and try not to reach through the screen because HERE WE GO!
10: Try this question on for size. Who chases and hugs Sonic all the time and wields a powerful hammer? Why it's Amy Rose of course! Though more of a cutie than a hottie, you can't deny the fact that she's still attractive. Two things that make her attractive are the fact that she wears a dress, and when have you ever seen 3 big, very smooth arcs of hair sticking out of a person's forehead? I haven't! So once again, Amy Rose is lovely; that is until she goes berserk and starts hitting stuff with her hammer.
Who's at number 9? It's this alien plant girl from a distant planet. Cosmo, from Sonic X. She arrived on the character's planet to deliver a message saying that the galaxy was under attack by a force called the Metarex. She doesn't do much except tell people to stop fighting and focus on the real matter at hand. The real reason she lands at the #9 is that she becomes Miles "Tails" Prower's sweetheart, something Tails needed for a long while.
Numero Ocho. Cream the Rabbit's mother, Vanilla. She's attractive and the size of an average human mother. What really surprises me about her is that the leader of Team Chaotix, Vector the Crocodile, falls in love with her. Kinda silly, don't you think? She's another character that doesn't do much, but in a season 3 episode of Sonic X, she helps Chris Thorndyke get into space to fight the Metarex along with Sonic and friends.
What number's next? Seven, of course. Wave the Swallow from Sonic Riders. People always root for the good guys, but sometimes, the bad guys steal the show. Her mechanical IQ is equal to Tails. She also happens to be the smartest member of the Babylon Rogues. I wonder why she isn't the leader. Like Jet the Hawk and Storm the Albatross, her specialty is riding the air-boards called "Extreme Gear". With two very long and smooth feathers extending from her head to her calves and droopy eyes, Wave will rock your socks. If only we could see her take wing.
Numero Six. Tikal the Echidna from Sonic Adventure 1. Named after an ancient Mayan city of the same name, Tikal is the daughter of Chief Pachacamac. She's yet another character that hardly does a thing except beg her father to stop being so greedy. She also traps herself inside the Master Emerald so that the water god Chaos doesn't reign terror upon the land. When you're the daughter of a person in the highest power, you need to look your best and Tikal delivers perfectly. That's why she's #6.
Number #1, #2, #3, #4, #5! Ah-Ah-Ahhh! Mina Mongoose from the Sonic Archie comics. How could you go wrong with a girl that looks like this? She can run nearly as fast as Sonic and she went from being a Freedom Fighter to being a popstar singer. Next to Princess Sally she looks more humanoid than the other characters. Who could top someone who has long (some French word I don't know) hair?
This female standing at number 4: Blaze the Cat. One word: Pyrokinesis. How would you like to have that superpower? I mean Blaze could play around in the Himalayas for hours and she would be perfectly fine! Also, 45 degree ponytail makes her look like a Native American. I really like the fact that her love interest is the telekinetic hedgehog Silver. The combination of mind-moving and fire superpowers make these two a reliable couple. But what really lands Blaze in the #4 spot is that her attitudes apparently more different from the other females.
Next up is #3. What's better than having a female with cascading quills? How about a female with cascading quills and hair? Julie-Su the Echidna, another Archie comic exclusive has that feature. She's smart, knows exactly what to do as a freedom fighter, and even trained Amy once. She's also the girl of Knuckles' dreams. Heh, lucky him. Her older self in the series Mobius: X Years Later is just downright hot! Just look at that long ponytail! Now we're talkin'!
1, 2, button my shoe! Princess Sally Acorn. There's a lot to say about this character. She's the heir to the throne, Sonic's first official romance, the only character that used to not wear clothes, brave and athletic, the most humanoid character, and is like a mother to Tails. In the TV show, Sonic SatAM, one Freedom Fighter, the cowardly Antoine constantly tries to woo Sally, but doesn't succeed because... he's a coward! The Princess is also a semi-perfect example of an excellent love interest, although there were a couple of times when she really snapped and acted like a lunatic; in the comics, that is. But overall, Sally Acorn really stands out amongst the slew of females not just because she's Sonic's first official love interest, or because she's the only one who didn't wear clothes, but because in the comics, she grew very long hair, and married Sonic in the future, becoming the Queen.
So, you've seen a pyrokinetic Cat, a swallow, two gorgeous echidnas, and even a princess! Who could possibly top those kinds of females? Well, get ready folks; this is the #1 hottest Sonic the Hedgehog female character. Rouge the Bat. If anybody denies it, how dare you? This woman can fly, she's as strong as Knuckles, and is a femme fatale, seducing other characters into getting what she wants. Instead of having one love interest, she has two! Knuckles, and Shadow the Hedgehog. Being a treasure thief, she's only interested in one object set; jewels, especially the Chaos Emeralds. There actually have been situations where Rouge's cleavage has been exposed, but it eventually got censored. What a price to pay. I think the best part about this beauty is that she wears three different outfits unlike the other female characters. And who wouldn't want to fly across the landscape via strong as Shawn Johnson, and flirt with any male, anytime, anywhere. These three traits make Rouge the Bat triumph over all of the Sonic the Hedgehog females. My hat goes off to you Sonic Team USA. You oughta be proud.
There ya have it folks. Those were the hottest female chicks in the Sonic universe. I hope you enjoyed it, happy Valentine's Day, and I'll see you later.

Knuckles’ Chaotix Sneak Peak! - 2/10
When rounded up to the last decimal the Average for the era is 5.3.
Which is one point higher than the last era. Once again silly joke issues weighted things down somewhat. However, 6/10 wound up being the most common ranking for this round, so the quality is definitely going up.
Top Five Individual Stories
The Map (Antoine's only solo story!)
The Day Robotropolis Fell (Just a very well constructed stand alone story with lots of tension. Events here also impact the story later)
Court Martial (I just like how it basically showcases Antoine at his lowest, just so that his character development later on is more pronounced)
Bunnie’s Worst Nightmare (Bunnie's best story for the era)
The Chaos Effect ( A good intro for the Chaotix)
I also have to give Countdown to Armageddon an honorable mention for bringing Bunnie and Antoine together... it's just not as strong of an overall story as the above.
Worst Five Individual Stories
Knuckles’ Chaotix Sneak Peak! (It's just a single panel of foreshadowing for the upcoming Chaotix special. It barely qualifies as a story)
Coming Soon: Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble (a forth wall breaking advertisement for an upcoming video game promotional tie-in comic... long after you've expected the book to drop such silliness)
The Last Game Cartridge Hero (probably the most ego driven thing Penders ever wrote... with questionable art work and a middling story)
Cry of the Wolf (a lazy rip-off of a SatAM episode published far too long after it was relevant and features some of the worst art work that the book would ever publish)
First Contact (technically the start of the Knuckles mythos but it's far too vague and meandering to make much of an impact)
Best Story Arc
Mecha Madness
There's a lot of strong story arcs this era but Mecha Madness is iconic for a reason. Loads of fun with a lot of action and plenty of high stakes and emotion.
Worst Story Arc
A Chaotix Kidnapping
This arc goes on far too long and mostly just consists of Knuckles wondering around aimlessly waiting for his actual miniseries to start. After spinning its wheels for so long it fails to have an actual pay off and just kind of slides into a completely different arc talking about the floating island's history. Then when we finally resolve the conflict, it turns out to be a whole lot of nothing as the Chaotix were never in any danger to begin with.
Best Artist
Patrick Spaziante
It took me a long time to warm up to Spaz's style, but y'all were right all along. He is one of the series strongest artists.

sᴀɴ ᴅɪᴇɢᴏ ʙᴇᴀᴄʜ, ᴄᴀ
Phoenix and Storm were walking along the beach enjoying their day off. After a week of intense training, they deserved a rest day to renew their energies. The sun brightly illuminated the dozens of people scattered along the kilometers of coastline, bringing an intoxicating sensation to the skins hidden behind flight uniforms and dorsals throughout the week.
Storm wore a yellow swimsuit with a square neckline, white denim shorts and sunglasses. Her long blonde hair was finally released and was blown free by the strong sea wind. Phoenix was wearing a black bikini, black skirt in thin fabric and an unbuttoned blue men's shirt. Over her eyes sat aviator glasses and her hair was also loose, which she could relax her scalp.
"Finally, a day of freedom!" Storm roared into the wind with her arms outstretched.
“Sometimes it seems like you don't like being a pilot.” Phoenix commented with a smile as she ate some frozen strawberries, which she bought at a kiosk.
“I like being in the air, the adrenaline. All the bureaucracy that involves this is what I can't stand.”
“And status.” she joked and offered strawberry to her friend.
“The best part!” Storm blinked. "What's on today's schedule?"
"I was thinking of letting you choose."
Storm parked in the sand with an astonished look and Phoenix chuckled.
“Don't do that.”
“Why not? You have great ideas too, Storm. I know you'll think of something.”
“I can think of several, endless ones, but… I can't decide. You know it.”
“Hmm.” She chewed on the strawberry. “At the end of the day, if we don't do anything, it's still great just being here.”
Phoenix watched the confusion settle on her friend's face and decided to stop there to spread the towel over the sand. They lay there and slathered each other with sunscreen.
“You are different.” Storm commented when Phoenix passed the product on her back.
“How different?”
“You are quiet. Since yesterday.”
Phoenix sighed heavily. “I'm just pensive.”
"About what?" Storm turned a little to the side to look at her. "I already told you it wasn't your fault."
“I know. But... it wasn't his fault either.”
“Are you crazy? He abandoned us!”
“He just…had a plan.”
Storm turned fully to her friend, looking at Phoenix's calm expression, but she knew her too well.
“You're into him.” she stated without hesitation.
“What? No! Of course not!” Phoenix shook her head frantically.
“Excellent. Because we don't date Vigilantes. And now knowing him closely, everything became clearer.”
“I don't remember that rule.”
“It was always implied.” She rolled her eyes. “They just want to step on us. They are cruel.”
Phoenix remembered all the atrocities that Hangman spoke and did during that week. He was selfish, arrogant, without love for his life, extremely competitive. But cruel…was too strong a word. She remembered the hug in the locker room, the lost look, the gentle smile, the pleasant conversation between them. Hangman was a Vigilante, but each day she realized he was more than that.
“Well, if you want to ruin our day off by talking about that asshole, stay put.” Phoenix got up. "Because I'm going into the sea."
"Good for me!"
Storm smiled and got up following her friend to the sea, diving into the salty water. They stayed there enjoying each other's company for a long time, laughing at Storm's inability to stay upright in rough waves and throwing water balls at each other. Sometimes, we go back to being children when we are next to friends who bring life to our soul.
After getting tired of involuntarily drinking salt water, the two left the sea and returned to the extended towel. Phoenix took off her tiny skirt and lay down, using the moment to revive her tan. Storm left for a while to buy drinks at The Hard Deck. After half an hour, Phoenix was surprised by the absence of his friend and got dressed again in order to go look for her.
When she had walked a few meters, she found her talking quite amicably with Coyote beside a yellow buggy. She noted that Storm didn't have any beer in her hands, implying she didn't even go buy it. Phoenix shook her head and left them at ease, heading toward Penny's bar.
Phoenix ordered two bottles of beer since it wasn't her intention to get drunk on the beach and she waited. Meanwhile, she noticed that the bar was quite full for a Sunday morning and several of her fellow officers were there. Some in uniform to conquer women, others in plainclothes to dodge if they put on a show there.
She noticed the pool table and darts and was tempted to play at least one game, but an image distracted her. Hangman emerged from the bathroom wearing flip-flops, striped shorts and an open green shirt, showing the trail of muscle and hair on his abdomen and chest. He kept his head down as he fiddled with his cell phone and his skin glowed perhaps from the sunscreen, which left white residue on the tip of his nose. Phoenix laughed at that point.
“That's what happens when they let a cowboy live in California.” She taunted him with a smile.
She noted that it took Hangman a few seconds to notice the joke and looked up. Phoenix saw anger in her eyes, in a way she hadn't seen even when they'd argued in the rain.
“Sorry, I didn't understand what you said. I do not speak stupidity.”
He scolded, his voice firm and his gaze hard. Phoenix narrowed her eyes with intensity, glaring at him right there.
“If ignorance were a kind of happiness, you would be the happiest person in the world.”
A heavy cloud hung over Hangman's eyes as he looked at her, but a strong wind blew it away in a second, as the summer sun opened in her face, illuminating it all over. He gave her that cocky smile that she hated, but it was better than the scowl.
“Everyone has the right to act ignorantly at one time or another.” he replied, taking a step forward.
“Yes, but you abuse the privilege. You have your whole life to be an asshole, why don't you take a day off?”
His smile widened at her response and he took another step forward. He stopped inches from her, bringing that pectoral face to face with her, as he was much taller. Phoenix tried not to stare, but it was almost inevitable. How would it feel if she touched there? She chased the thoughts away and lifted her chin up, staring deep into his emerald eyes.
“Your schedule today was so boring that you had to follow me for a little fun, Trace?”
“No, I was just looking for something incredibly boring to warn everyone off.”
"You always have something to say, don't you?"
“Good point. But I'm waiting for the time when you shut up. she teased with amusement.
They looked at each other for a while in challenge until she noticed his gaze travel all over her body without any shame. And she couldn't help the hot shiver that followed as if his eyes were a laser beam passing through every cell in her body. She swallowed when he returned his gaze to hers, but continued defiantly.
“Have you finished?”
“You tell me: have you finished looking at me?” He asked biting his lower lip.
Phoenix was about to respond when Penny returned with her two beers. She asked to put it on Storm's account and turned her gaze forward, noting that Hangman was staring at his cell phone again. The image of an older-looking but well-groomed blonde woman appeared on the screen. He ran his fingers between the green and red buttons, considering answering or not. Finally, he decided not to answer.
He glared back at her with renewed anger and Phoenix wasn't going to stand there to be made a punching bag for something personal about him. So, she nodded and walked past him towards the exit.
Phoenix walked towards Storm, who seemed to have gotten into a really good conversation with Coyote as they laughed together.
"Am I supposed to fight for my own best friend's attention?" she teased as she approached them. Coyote nodded at her and she returned it.
“Phoenix, I found a schedule for us.” Storm looked at her friend without apologizing for being gone.
"There's room for one more." Coyote pointed to the buggy parked on the sand.
“And you suddenly decided to be nice to us.” she commented suspiciously.
"Jealousy doesn't look good on you, my angel."
Hangman appeared behind her with a beer in hand. She didn't bother to turn and stare at that annoying smile.
“You could say it's a Sunday truce.” Coyote replied reaffirming his attitude with the arrival of his friend.
"Isn't that an excuse to throw us in the sand?"
"If you do that, I'll cut off your balls." Storm threatened and Coyote's smile faded a little.
“Come on, I wouldn't risk scratching my handsome Sebastian.” He hit the hood of the vehicle.
“Sebastian.” Phoenix chuckled and took a sip of her beer. “Well, Sebastian doesn't have to fall for us to fall.”
“Relax, Trace.” Hangman chimed in once more. “We won't do anything you wouldn't do to us.”
Coyote jumped into the buggy, followed by Storm who sat next to him. Hangman climbed onto the back and held out a hand to her.
“Sometimes we need to take a shot in the dark.” He repeated his sentence and let out that beautiful smile.
“I could drop you in the sand.” She commented still suspicious of the situation.
“Do that and you go down with it.” He challenged.
Phoenix realized that she was alone in this discussion, even Storm had fallen under Coyote's charms. It was go or stay alone on the beach eating strawberries. It wouldn't be that bad, she needed some peace. But she admitted that she loved a buggy race on the beach. So, she ignored Hangman's outstretched hand and climbed onto the rear.
"One little prank and I'll knock you both out." she threatened, looking from one to the other.
"Let's speed up, baby!" Coyote roared and started the engine.
Phoenix had to lean on the metal support in front of her to avoid being thrown out of the buggy. She still wasn't sure about that truce, it felt too sudden and strange. But it only took a few kilometers to take advantage of the strong wind, sunlight and speed for her to completely remove the serious expression from her face. Phoenix opened her arms and squealed in elation as they sped over the high dunes. The others were no different from her either.
Coyote turned on the stereo and started playing Sunshine by Katrina & The Waves. Phoenix started laughing at the style of music Coyote was listening to as he tried to explain that he didn't know how that music got there. Hangman approached her ear and whispered that he had been the culprit. The two laughed conspiratorially and Storm watched everything in the rearview mirror.
The journey continued for a long time, in which the sun's rays became like flames on their skin and the hot wind began to bother them. So they decided to park and Hangman and Phoenix discussed which restaurant they would have lunch at.
"As long as it gets rid of that rumbling in my stomach, I'm fine with anything." “Storm voted and Phoenix felt betrayed, so her friend overturned her decision. “I vote for Matcha Mama.”
“Sorry, man, but the hotties decide.” Coyote voted against Hangman.
“Okay, then don't come complaining to me.” he said outraged and Phoenix lifted her chin even higher.
“You lost, Bagman. Accept it.”
The restaurant had a very simple, beachy decor with round tables with straw umbrellas and wooden chairs with blue seats. It wasn't as crowded with people and the sea breeze flowed nicely between the tables, which Phoenix knew the restaurant next door didn't.
They chose a table in the center and sat down. For a moment, there was silence between them, as they weren't friends nor did they apparently have anything in common, but then a waiter came to attend to them. They ordered the easiest and quickest dishes to make and some drinks and the waiter left.
“How did you two meet? You’re not in the same squadron.” Phoenix brought up the subject as silence settled again.
“In Afghanistan.” Coyote replied, surreptitiously placing an arm around Storm's shoulders. “The Vigilantes and the Sidewinders had to team up to fight two terrorist groups that were threatening to attack Israel. Hangman was the mission leader.”
“Let me guess, he abandoned you.” Storm commented bringing up a bad memory.
Phoenix searched Hangman's gaze beside him, but found no sign of outrage or annoyance. He hadn't abandoned them, but he didn't want to clarify anything. He wanted to keep up the executioner look.
“No. You had to see, the guy looked like a caged lion that had just been released. He went after that squadron alone.”
“Alone?” it was Phoenix's turn to comment.
“And we just followed, dodging the terrorist missiles and getting onto the hard deck. I thought I was going to faint there, but Hangman appeared in front of me and scared those fighters. They backed off.”
Hangman remained silent, but he kept his boastful smile as he was narrated as a hero.
“After that, I started worshiping this guy here.” He pointed at his friend with a smile. “He saved my life.”
“Wow.” Phoenix said.
“I know I'm awesome.” he finally answered something.
“You're suicidal. There were two squadrons there with you. Why act alone?”
“It's a leader's responsibility. I go first and face it.”
"And die first."
“It's the danger we run every time we fly. Going first or second does not prevent the inevitable.”
"But... what about your family? Don't you think they'll suffer if you die?”
“No.”
Phoenix noticed some anger in him when answering the last question and she decided to let the subject drop. Coyote and Storm began to talk about something more lighthearted and Phoenix tried to keep up, but her thoughts were still on that conversation. Not only was Hangman a lone wolf, he had no sense of danger. He prevented other pilots from being attacked by placing himself in front of them as an easy target. He wasn't just selfish, he was suicidal. And judging by his reaction to the mention of family, she thought he might not have anyone else. Only someone alone in the world acted so pointedly towards death.
Their food arrived. Four open coconuts with assorted dishes inside, with a wooden spoon and edible flowers. The drinks also arrived and they slightly interrupted their conversation to replenish their bodies. The food was very good and did what it was supposed to. They ordered more drinks and soon Coyote took one of the coconut flowers and stuck it between Storm's ear and hair. Phoenix noticed her friend blush slightly.
Phoenix was drinking her drink when she noticed the agitation in Hangman's leg as he ignored several messages and calls on his cell phone. She found that strange. Who could be bothering him so much to get him upset like that? His state was almost the same as that day in class and she felt the need to interrupt that suffering. Even though he said and did mean things to her and Rooster, she wouldn't be Phoenix if she didn't help those in need.
She placed her hand on his thigh and stroked the spot more tenderly than the first time. She heard Hangman's heavy sigh and soon the movement ceased. He brought her hand to his and encircled it, conveying all the warmth of his firm skin to her. He glanced back at Phoenix with a small smile that she didn't know how to react to.
“I might eventually get used to the affectionate version of you, my angel.” He whispered right next to her.
“Don't bother. I just don't want you to collapse next to me. Lots of paperwork to fill out.” she commented and took a sip of her drink.
"If you want, you can do one more thing for me." he suggested and she raised an eyebrow. “I saw that back there is a pool table.”
A smile tugged at Phoenix's lips at the suggestion, but she remained defiant in her gaze.
“Come on, I'll teach you how to lose.”
“Of course, I imagine you're an expert at losing. It takes a lot of practice.” she snapped in humor.
Hangman shook his head and let out another of his smug smiles. Then, they got up and walked to the back of the restaurant. Storm and Coyote didn't even notice their absence, as they were too busy finding their way to each other's throats.
Luckily, the table was unoccupied and there weren't that many people around, so they could compete in the fierce way they used to. Not that they would be embarrassed by people's judgment. But at least they wouldn't be kicked off the pool table.
Hangman took the clubs and passed one to her. Phoenix arranged the balls in the center. A waiter appeared there and they ordered two more shots to cool off.
"Any bets?" Hangman asked, scratching the tip of his cue.
"Hmm...that might be more interesting." She tied her hair in a loose bun. “A point, a question.”
“Curious about me, Trace?”
"I just want to know how far your idiocy goes."
“Still so proud.” He approached the table with a defiant smile. “I begin.”
"I thought Texas men were more gentlemen."
“And we are. Except when we want to win.”
He winked and she shook her head, sipping her drink. Hangman took his first shot, scattering the balls across the table. He took aim at the blue ball and it hit the net.
“AW!” he cheered and Phoenix remained serious. “Why fly with a WSO?”
“I grew up with four older brothers. It felt very lonely flying without a WSO. Besides, I met Storm at the Academy and I couldn't live without her.”
“Four brothers? Well...that explains a lot.”
“Elaborate your comment.” she asked curiously.
"You'll have to make a point to find out."
Phoenix rolled her eyes and steadied her cue on the table. She took aim at a ball and dropped it. She cheered with a victorious look and took a sip of her drink. Hangman did the same.
“Answer.”
“You are a survivor. Hits the run and the gym as hard as I and the others. You study almost all the time and even debate on an equal footing with Miss Mitchell. And... you drink black coffee, which indicates that you've learned to be strong in order to survive or you'll be passed over.”
Phoenix opened her mouth slightly, surprised by his remark, but didn't want to reveal that he was right.
"Did you think of all this just because I told you I have four brothers?"
“Is true or no?”
“It's your turn.”
She ignored the question and he decided to leave that subject for later, since he knew he was right. Hangman scored one more point.
"Why were you in the woods that day? I didn't buy that answer.”
Phoenix sighed heavily and took a sip of her drink to work up the courage to reveal something so personal to him.
“When I was fifteen mi abuelo died. We were very close. He would tell me stories about the wars he faced as a soldier. I saw him as a hero. If he survived the war, surely he would win the fight against cancer. But not.” She paused at the memories. “Every year since then I've gone to Mexico to visit his grave, but not this year. I was truthful when I said I was there to calm down.”
Hangman looked at her with a compassionate expression, nodding at her every word and at the end he gave a tiny smile that said "I'm sorry". Phoenix shook off the sadness she wanted to settle in her heart and resumed the game, knocking down two balls at once. She celebrated with an arm in the air and Hangman just drank his drink, but with a grimace.
"Why did you become a Navy fighter pilot?"
“Because I've heard that Air Force pilots are unbeatable.” he replied with that cocky grin.
“It was better to be a shark in an aquarium than to face whales in the sea.” she concluded shrewdly.
“Exactly. Here's to your insight, my angel.”
He approached her with a drink and she linked her arm through his, toasting Polish style. Hangman drank the entire glass at once and Phoenix did the same finishing at the same time. He noticed a drop of the drink slipping from the corner of her mouth and took his thumb to wipe it away longer than necessary. Phoenix had smooth, velvety skin.
Phoenix scratched her throat, unnerved by the tender, intense gaze he was giving her, and Hangman snapped out of his trance.
"Why be a pilot?" she asked, controlling her voice not to shake. He raised an eyebrow. “I hit two balls.”
“When I was nine, I found a medal hidden in a trunk in the attic of my house.” He leaned against the wood of the table, looking at her seriously. “It belonged to my great-grandfather who served in the First War. I saw a picture of him inside a Vikers F.B. 5 and I just didn't want to do anything else.”
“The first Seresin seemed to be very good.”
“The Seresin room is still very good.” He smiled smugly.
"You really have to spoil the moment, don't you?" She rolled her eyes. “It's your turn.”
Hangman got back to his feet and straightened up to calculate a move. The balls were already running out. She was beating him and that couldn't happen. He was Hangman, he always won. He firmed up the move and put a ball inside.
“Your turn to answer.”
“I come from a family of female aviators. And since I'm the only woman in my family, I'm the only one left to carry on the legacy.”
“Legacy.” He pondered that word for a moment. “As long as it's what you want it's totally valid.”
“If I wanted to be in any other profession there would be no problem. My aunts and grandmothers know how difficult it is to get involved in male-dominated professions and they never asked me to.”
“You wanted this because you were stubborn.” He smiled smugly, but then turned serious again almost immediately. “Lucky you.”
Phoenix noticed the dark cloud hovering over his gaze again and took a step forward on instinct. Seeing him so lost like that awakened a side of her that few people were worthy of embracing. She laid a hand on his shoulder, which made him smile the tiniest bit and pat his hand as well. It was rough. And hot.
“Answer me something.” she asked seriously in a whisper.
“You know how it works.”
“It's unofficial. You don't need to answer if you don't want to.”
Hangman nodded and leaned against the pool table, still stroking her hand with his.
“What was the reason for that hug?”
Phoenix asked that question so quietly that Hangman almost didn't hear it, but his eyes widened a little as he understood the intimacy of the question. He opened and closed his lips several times in addition to gasping for air. He seemed to be transported back to that moment again and was frowning at the memory. Why did seeing him in that state bother her so much?
“You’re not alone, Bagman.”
“I know, but I need to be.”
He said it with such firmness and sadness that something in Phoenix's heart stirred. Was it pity for him? She fixed her gaze on him, moving closer.
“Why?” Her voice seemed to be fading and she couldn't explain why.
“Flying the way I do is easier when I have no one to turn to. My team has. And I sacrifice myself for it.”
"You really don't have a special someone?"
Phoenix watched the gleam in his gaze light up, casting away the dark cloud, and he was suddenly on his feet. He got so close that Phoenix had to lean on the pool table. The smug smile appeared again and, as much as she hated it, she was relieved that he'd let go of the sadness.
“You are stealing. he commented in a whisper millimeters away from her face.”
“I'm just being strategic.” she replied defiantly.
"May I know what it is?"
"You'll have to make a point to find out."
Phoenix raised her chin teasingly, but that move made her skin touch Hangman's lips. Obviously, it didn't go unnoticed by him, who widened his smile and looked at her with intensity.
"Your turn, my angel." He whispered in her ear.
Phoenix took two seconds to remember what she was doing there and chose a ball on the other side of the table, where she could stay away from him. She tried to concentrate, but her hands shook slightly and the ball didn't land in the net. She cursed to the heavens and scratched her forehead.
"Uh... seems like something is distracting you, my angel."
“Oh, shut up, Bagman.” she complained angrily. "And stop calling me that." I already said!”
“OK. What do you want me to call you then? Honey, sweetheart, Trace, Natasha...?”
“Phoenix, like everyone else.”
"I thought I was special." He flashed another smug smile, pissing Phoenix off even more.
“You thought wrong. You are like everyone else. Less... than everyone else.” She snorted and rolled her eyes. "What made you think you were more?"
“Nothing.” He positioned himself on the table to make a move. “I'm going to believe that you go around distributing affection to everyone.”
"This has nothing to do with you, Bagman! That's me. You can be the most arrogant man I know, but if I see you need something, I'll help.”
He parked his motion to stare at her. His smile changed, it was kind. His eyes shone with tenderness. And that made Phoenix look away from the tables. That transition from arrogance to kindness was already making her dizzy.
Hangman managed to get one more ball into the net and Phoenix was already starting to think she might lose. No. She was Phoenix, she would never give up hope of winning.
“Balls are running low.” Hangman teased, pointing at the table.
“I have eyes, asshole.”
“Whoa.” he laughed. “You're in a bad mood when you're losing.”
“I just don't like obvious comments and questions.” She rolled her eyes. “Besides, I'm not losing. We are tied.”
“Not for long.” He rested his hands on the tip of the cue. “Let's change the competition. I want a bet.”
"Were you afraid of my questions?" she teased crossing her arms.
“No, I'm not afraid of anything or anyone.”
“Of course.” She mocked with a weak smile. "What's the bet?"
“If you win, I'll do whatever you want for the rest of the day.”
Phoenix raised an eyebrow and smiled slightly. That could be interesting.
"On the slimmest chance you win?"
He grinned from ear to ear. “You will have to kiss me.”
“Kiss you?” She laughed without holding back. "How old do you think we are? Twelve?”
“What it was? Are you already assuming you're going to lose?” He maintained his smug smile.
"Not even in your dreams."
"So, bet done?"
“Yes. Get ready to be my doormat, Bagman.”
He chuckled quickly shaking his head. So they continued the match by focusing more. No distractions. Except, perhaps, for the furtive glances at each other. The dispute was fierce, whenever one was ahead, the other overtook soon after. The balls were running out and the result of the bet was getting closer and closer to being revealed.
"And the Californian beat the Texas man! Again!” She fluttered, gesturing her hand like a pistol, and shot him. She blew on the tip of her index finger.
Hangman approached her with a serious expression and grabbed her pistol hand. His eyes were intense and hard.
“That gesture belongs to Texans. Do not steal.”
“Wow… it's not just me who gets in a bad mood when it's lost.” she taunted, keeping her gaze on his.
He clucked his tongue and let go of her hand, pulling away from her with his expression outraged. Hangman really hated losing.
"What am I supposed to do now... ma'am?" he said the last word with a wry smile.
Phoenix sighed and let out a wide smile. She was loving seeing him in that angry state and especially for having beaten him once again.
"I want another drink."
He raised an eyebrow.
“There's a waiter over there.”
“I know”. She leaned against the pool table. “I want a drink, Bagman.”
Hangman grunted in anger very softly, scratched the back of his head, and let out another of his wan smile. He walked to the bar and ordered drinks for her. Meanwhile, Phoenix was watching him with a huge smile on her lips. That was priceless.
After a few minutes, Hangman came back with a tropical strawberry and pineapple drink in his hands. Phoenix started drinking mentally praising his choice and invited him to another match. Hangman was still frowning and she wondered if it was due to missing or not having the opportunity to kiss her. Looks like she'll never know.
The two continued to play for the rest of the afternoon both alone and with a few people who joined them, but always competing against each other. Phoenix was beginning to realize that she took pleasure in competing against Hangman. He pushed her to play better, to make the best strategy to defeat him, and even though he hated to lose, she noticed the tender glow in his eyes intensify whenever she made a clever and well-placed play.
However, the gloomy cloud hung over Hangman's expression whenever his cell phone rang and it was bothering Phoenix. Not that she cared that much about him, but if she wanted to be the best she had to beat the best. And Hangman distracted by his cell phone wasn't giving it his all.
Then, when people had already tired of playing with them, Phoenix approached Hangman and extended a hand.
“The cell phone.” she ordered with her eyes locked on his.
“Of course not! I will not hand over my cell phone to you.”
“I'm not asking, Bagman.”
Hangman rolled his eyes and snorted. Finally, he handed the cell phone to her without any delicacy. Phoenix grinned in victory.
"You know this is abuse of power, right?"
“I gained that power.” She lifted her chin in arrogance and he shook his head. “Let's go back.”
Hangman followed Phoenix to the table where Storm and Coyote were supposed to be, but it was empty. They looked towards the beach where the buggy should have been parked, but there was no sign either. Phoenix reached for her cell phone to contact her friend and found a message. Storm reported that Coyote wanted to show her some places, but soon they would be back at the same place.
“Storm is a vindictive person.” Hangman needled.
“She will be back. Storm is like the wind, nobody knows where it goes or where it comes from, but we are sure it will pass at some point.” She sighed watching the horizon in the distance.
“That doesn't take away from the fact that she dumped you.”
"Seriously, are you going to tell me this? You?”
He shrugged, hiding his hands in his front pockets and looking at the horizon as well.
“It's just you and me now.”
Phoenix looked back at him trying to understand how she had ended up there. Since dawn, her intention was to have fun on the beach with her best friend. But the irony of fate took Storm away and brought Hangman, the most selfish guy she ever had the displeasure of meeting, right beside her, being her only company. Well… he had already spoiled one of her fun and he wasn't going to spoil it again. She wouldn't let that happen.
Then Phoenix started walking out of the restaurant and soon she was stepping onto the warm sand of the beach. She took off her sunglasses and shirt and ran into the sea, meeting the cool water with her warm body. She didn't need to elaborate much on the day, just diving into those waters calmed her soul.
After a few minutes underwater, Phoenix looked back to the beach, where she noticed Hangman sitting on the sand with his flip-flops as a seat looking in her direction with the tiniest smile on his face. She didn't need to see his eyes under his glasses to know the tender glow was still there. Something she couldn't explain propelled her back to the beach, stopping a step away from him.
Hangman lifted his chin up watching every detail of her body and the smile widened.
“What it was? Vigilantes don't go into the sea?” she taunted with a smile.
“We like to enjoy the view.” He lifted his glasses to his short hair, revealing the gleam of emeralds. “Besides… someone had to pay the bill.”
“That's what happens to people who love to take the lead.” She commented with irony, but the phrase spread like criticism. “I'll pay you when we get back to the hangar.”
- It is not necessary. We Texas folks really are gentlemen.” He recalled her earlier comment. “You know, if you want company, just ask.”
She laughed quickly and put a hand on her hip, looking up at him. Hangman knew how to tease.
“What should be spontaneous should not be asked for.”
Phoenix winked and headed back out to sea, soon plunging into the already tidal waves. When she surfaced again she watched Hangman jump into the water and out of sight. Suddenly, she felt something on her leg and was soon pulled into the depths. She struggled, but his hand was very strong. When she realized, Phoenix had fully emerged from the water by Hangman's arms.
"Let go of me, Bagman!" she ordered firmly, wriggling against his hard chest.
“As you wish, ma'am.” He let out a conspiratorial smile.
"Wait...that's not what I..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Phoenix was hurled into the late-afternoon swells and sunk into the salty water. She looked for a foothold on the sandy floor and climbed back up, finding Hangman watching the waters intently. When he saw her dip, he flashed another smug smile.
“You’re a dead man.”
Phoenix left in the direction of Hangman in a rage, having difficulty in reaching him, as he was faster and hid in the water. She tried to keep her anger, but it was an almost impossible task, since he made her laugh with his expressions and disappearances. It was a challenge for her. And she had fun. Finally, she managed to hook the blond hair and pull it up. In a swift movement, Hangman disentangled himself from her hands and lifted her again, but this time by the waist.
Phoenix was still laughing uncontrollably at the situation and barely realized that she was in a very dangerous position. Her thighs surrounded his waist, her belly was glued to the defined muscles and she felt the softness of the hair in that region and her breasts were very close to his face. Hangman's rough hands held her in place and lightly stroked the sensitive skin of her back with his thumbs.
She was grinning. And he did the same, a genuine smile. What was happening? Why was it so much fun being next to each other? Why did they somehow feel comfortable in each other's presence, and especially so close? Suddenly, they were in Lemoore again. The exchange of glances, competition, provocation and desire. All that came back. Or...never ceased to exist.
“Thanks.”
For a moment, Phoenix didn't understand what he was referring to, but then the situation became clear. He thanked her for the hug that day. He was grateful that she hadn't told anyone. And he was grateful Phoenix kept bringing him back to the surface. She knew she was under no obligation to act that way. They weren't friends or close. He had said and done horrible things. Phoenix should abandon him as everyone around her would. But... if she did that, she wouldn't be being herself. She would be betraying her essence.
Instead of answering with words, Phoenix braced her hands on his broad shoulders and shifted her weight, forcing Hangman down. He went down, but he took her with him still holding her tenderly. Proximity wasn't uncomfortable as it should have been, not at all. She wrapped herself perfectly around his body as if she had always done that or was made just for him. And they continued like this until nightfall.

Number 10: Try this question on for size.
Number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5! Ah-Ah-Ahhh! Mina Mongoose from the Sonic Archie comics. How could you go wrong with a girl that looks like this? She can run nearly as fast as Sonic and she went from being a Freedom Fighter to being a popstar singer. Next to Princess Sally she looks more humanoid than the other characters. Who could top someone who has long mauve hair?
Number 1, 2, button my shoe!
HERE WE GO!

Next to Princess Sally she looks more humanoid than the other characters.

arc v 66-80 thoughts! oh my God So Much Happens All The Time. we got to the fourth opening/ed already??? im halfway into the series I think and im shocked by the implications of the op/ed (that we'll seemingly be spending another full arc in synchro. not complaining I just thought this would be shorter, at this rate most of the series will be taking place in synchro wont it?? whats the synchro to standard episode ratio...)
-aaaah crows kids showed up to watch him duel and it had him worried for the majority of the duel. cute. (also I hope theyve been ok since hes been in jail/here at the friendship cup locked in a fucking room) im glad he won…
-….and concerned bc Crime Dad broke into yuyas room to tell him the losers (and also ppl who get taken from the prison) go to some kind of underground garbage plant to basically be WORKED TO DEATH. see when a few eps ago we learned some ppl get taken out of prison and never return I assumed they just were. shooting them to kill them out back like ole yeller bc of overpopulation. nope! cant decide if this is better or worse than that assumption… both are pretty bad…
-how tf is layra supposed to do a riding duel!! theyre so tiny! where will their emotional support stuffed animal sit! tf! im glad yuya and crimedad are treating this as awful as it is and are also pissed. what the FUCK and god layra RUNNING to yuya and clinging to him and yuya tearing into reiji saying 'if YOU wont protect layra /I/ will!' LIKE. LOVE THIS ENERGY YUYA. I feel like reiji is 100% withholding info about layra but still. kid is TERRIFIED and yuya had SO many valid points (layra still wanting to be with big bro reiji and trusting him auugh)
-reiji is a bit Too Calm abt all of this so I cant imagine this is his first time handling this kinda situation. and layra having a goddamn meltdown panic attack when reiji leaves and running after him BEGGING him not to leave and saying 'ill do whatever u want!! always!!!' I DONT LIKE THIS. NOT ONE BIT. at least reiji was like 'its okay. im proud and happy youre defying me bc it means ur developing a will of your own' and having ninjaguy fight in layras place…like. very many feelings abt this. I still can't fault reiji 100% either bc we Learn layra is from a 'war torn region in a certain country' I KNEWWW IT I KNEW LAYRA WAS ADOPTED the timeline with reijis dad going to academia didnt make sense for reiji to have a younger sibling. my original theory was xyz dimension but it didnt look like heartland in the little bit we could see. so just some random war-torn country…um. so they have ptsd. and reijis mom is like 'yeah hes got no will so he can be a useful asset to us!" throw the whole woman away. tf is wrong with u ppl. at least reiji is defying his mom on this and wanting layra to be happy… oh…reiji im so sorry sweetie both u and layra have such shit parents….maybe its actually for the best reiji took layra with him, i would not fucking trust his mom with this kid! reiji is just Cleaning up his Parents messes. actually that perfectly explains his Hyper Responsible personality. he prob never got to be a kid….IM SO SAD. AAUGH! ygo is nothing w/out family drama
-…yuya getting mad reiji sent ninjaguy in layras place but dude SOMEONE wouldve had to go if not him?? what do u want reiji to DO yuya hes working with what he can and hes prob 10 steps ahead anyway
-yooo shinji is fun actually, I feel like him and shun would get along great. both freedom fighters. shinji trying to start a RIOT with his duel. love that. (also just love ninjaguy too. i didnt love either enough to root for one or the other, im fine w/ whoever wins but shinji had a CAUSE yk)
-so reiji is fine w them being sent to the forced labor place. I mean. all of them but the top winner WILL be so ofc he had a plan to get them out of that. not at all surprised bc hes been THEE best at planning and staying cool as a cucumber. not even worried abt it if hes in charge. if reijis not worrying neither am I
-smile chojiro is a great character. i love his whole motto 'dont be ashamed of defeat, dont be complacent in victory' im also glad he didnt just throw the duel to keep yuzu from going to the forced labor camp (I mean…/i/ would have if I was fighting a 14 yr old girl kajhfkj gotta protecc the kids or whatever) but that wouldve cheapened her win. I KNEW she would win and im so proud of her. yuya tearing up when she used his catch phrase to let him know shes ok ;__; god that duel made me SO emotional theyre both great
-I knew serena would win fast against some rando named 'tony' with the blandest design ever. did not disappoint. but the other characters made comments like 'oh if I wasnt dueling today I coulve slept in'…theyre only doing like FOUR DUELS PER DAY IN THIS TOURNAMENT?? PEOPLE GO TO A STADIUM TO SEE (4) DUELS???! oh my god thats so ridiculous. how much is a ticket in???…how long have they been in synchro dimension??? like, they were in jail a While too werent they?? so like. a MONTH?? LONGER?? everyone is gonna be so behind on school when they get back. yes thats what im worried abt.
-yuya getting mad this is all unfair and yelling its wrong and the 'friendship cup' should be canceled bc the losers just get sent to the forced work facility (slave camp. yuya, just say it for what it is) is like..well whatre you gonna do abt it! we already had a lil speech abt how the 1% of this world are living it up and the 99% are in slums, having to clean up the MASSIVE waste the 1% cause and having to struggle to SURVIVE and your only NOW getting really pissed abt it? (also, too real) you HAVE a pocket demon we havent seen in like 30-40 episodes…bring it out and let it eat the rich people and the cops! whats the problem!
-OH MY GOD. jack atlas and reiji and layra hanging out having dinner together. i am going to lose my mind. HE THINKS YUZU HAD THE MOST PROMISE OUT OF ALL THE DAY ONE DUELISTS TOO!!!! BRO. JACK. JACK U ARE THE BESTEST EVER!!! SAME HAT!!!!!! also the fact no one else is Eating but layra has a full course is so funny jsdkj whyre they all just having tea? did they finish before them or…
-god damn jack is different…he seems more mature? he called the commons his origin and his pride and is super observant of layra and says he wishes he couldve seen them duel and. tbh thats cute and probably smth layra needed to hear (I am still FIrmly against letting this child on a motorcycle tho) jack. jack i love u
-god the card jack got inspired by was the one he gave to sam who was UNGRATEFUL FOR IT. i cant believe this. this jack is SO nice i love him so much
-tf why is the crowd cheering a cop on a bike and booing yuya. yuya im SO sorry for these dumbasses. /I/ am cheering for u. AND HES TELLING THE CROWD ABT THE LABOR CAMPS!!! HEY YUYA I LOVE YOU SPEAK THE TRUTH. im sorry the crowd is…Like That! theyre all CHEERING like 'HELL YA WE LOVE WHEN THE LOSERS GET SENT TO WORK CAMPS TO DIE!!' WHAT THE FUCK!!! jack is like 'dude they only care about WINNERS opinions' HAHA speaking from experience aren't u jack. hes kinda right tho. WIN and THEN make ur speech. its all about TIMING unfortunately
-hey the cop has a fusion card. WHERE did he get that? reiji says a rat is in and my first thought was dennis, but hes been locked in his room too, right? (and lets be real I dont see fucking DENNIS as a real threat. nor do I see a random literally characterless faceless cop as a threat, but its the implication a fusion person snuck in synchro and is sabotaging our Heroes)
-yuya's eyes lit up for like 0.2 second. I wish I could tell if that was yuto's influence or yuyas demon (?? I need a better name for it. but we havent SEEN it in like. 30-40 episodes LMAO let alone had any kind of explanation, so) I geeeeeet that sending ANYONE to the horrible forced labor camps is bad, but yuya. you gotta get to the top if you want ppl to listen. you cant single handedly do much, you are 14. 'bc of me he was sent underground' if it wasnt him itd be u. and its not like u took him there urself, chill yuya. we'll fix this stuff im SURE
-oh my god shingo v yugo is happening. I am SHAKING. the SILLYBOYS. I want them to interact MORE. I figured yugo would win (since im sure we'll get a yuya v yuto match based on the op…) but shingo put up a GOOD FIGHT and put on a good show and im proud
-…yuya seems to be able to directly tap into yugo's thoughts when their dragons are like resonating and seemed to be losing his sense of self. concerning? we havent really seen serena or yuzu do smth like this so im like. is it rly Just smth abt the yuya counterparts?? very unsettling scene. yuya has SOME level of influence too bc yugo said yuyas lil fun catchphrase (smth both yuzu and shingo caught…) …is that why yuya kinda absorbed yuto ?? bc hes like. the Alpha Counterpart or smth. ?? horror movie stuff!
-sergey is the scariest man ive ever seen. christ. he 'died' once before and can CONTROL MINDS?? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT.
-omg ninjaguy snuck into 'hell' to make sure everyone is ok. is THAT reijis plan? just rely on ur personal ninja to do everything? ok tbf if /i/ had a personal ninja Id Do The Same Damn Thing. im sure eventually hes gonna use him to get them out…the way I believe in them…
-theres a rumor roget is from another dimension so he def is. like working with leo? not at all surprised. hes def getting the duelists from hell from gallagar to send to fight in the fusion v xyz war is my assumption
-STOPPP LAYRA PLAYING JACKS WORDS IN THEIR MIND TO INSPIRE THEM AND APOLOGIZING TO NINJAGUY WAS SO CUTE.
-yuyas letter to yuzu was also Cute
-god why does shun keep having to duel Secretly Fusion ppl this sucks for him LMAO. not that I think Fucking Dennis can beat shun but STILL. at least shun is like 'no hes def bullshitting' like hes a smart cookie.
-…what the hell are they going to do if dennis DOES show his true colors btw? theyre all kinda stranded in another dimension rn. are they just gonna let him go to the underground plant and not get him out too?? jkhfksdf omg I CANNOT see reiji doing that. i feel like dennis is enough of a weenie we can bully him into switching sides. the tension between shun and dennis tho…preddy thick. pretty spicy
-Oh! hes got ancient gear cards! didnt the prof from gx use those? that tracks. fun callback
-reiji not even PHASED by dennis being academia hes like. and? and bitch? you got smth to say? to the council. LMAO I LOVE him no bullshit with him ever
-oh HELL no dennis was the one who STARTED THE ATTACK ON HEARTLAND (that he calls the hunting game) BECAUSE HE FOUND RURI??? 'i wanted to keep doing street shows' WELL YOU SHOULDVE.
-omg ruri's design is SO cute. shes got feather motifs! does she also have a birdy deck like her bro! thats cute! I hope so!
-SORA IS HERE??? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN HERE??? HIIII WELCOME BACK !!!!! BEST SURPRISE
-dennis being like 'now that ive cast aside being an entertainer, even the action cards have forsaken me?!" no…no bud its prob bc YOU caused debris all over the field. so still kinda your own damn fault which is funny to watch
-SHUN SNIPED DENNIS FROM SPACE. BEST FINISH TO A DUEL EVER. EVER EVER EVER XYZ REPRESENT YES SHUN YES!!!!! he was aggressively trying to turn him into a card and when that didnt work (reiji modified his duel disk lmao) HE TRIED PUNCHING HIM AND GOT PULLED AWAY. WAS HE GOING TO BEAT HIM TO DEATH THE OLD FASHIONED WAY??? SHUN. PLEASE. i love u.
-waaait is 76 just a recap ep. booooooo ive been binging these i dont NEED a recap. I JUST watched them all in a row like a maniac. im watching this ep on 2x speed to make it go Faster. smh. I do kind of appreciate a streamlined explanation of why the council ppl kept roget around even knowing hes a snake but Still.
-oh, its also interesting yuris job seems to be taking the yuzu-counterparts? do him and serena know each other? i dont THINK weve seen them interact but idk! since all of the yuzus and yuyas seem to be friends its just interesting hed be chosen for that job
-ok only the first half or so was a recap? cool. slowin it back to normal then...
-…what the fuck is kings gambit. he put MIND CONTROL CHIPS IN ALL THE COPS BRAINS? HOW? Roget is going against academia for his own purposes. reiji immediately calls him out on his bullshit invitation to help. fucking love you reiji
-sora got dennis hahah. how do sora and dennis not Know each other. it was weirdly nice of sora to help dennis and sora is like. Determined to get serena and yuzu. but. We Will See about that. I feel like serena is just gonna pummel him into a pancake and yuzu will give him a smack with her fan and a tight hug and he will break down like a little nervous chihuahua. this is my prediction.
-new op and ed this ep too btw! LOVEEE the new op, prob my 2nd fav next to the first one. really good soft metal sound. new ed is also REALLY GOOD. awww all the girls together!! and even. sora and jack next to each other. god last ed was my fav but this one is FIGHTING it I cant pick which I like better LMAO theyre REALLy good. interesting imagery too. MAYBE im reading too much into it but jack and sora are both on the outskirts of the grass…are they going to interact? and sora is sorta balled into himself and turned away from everyone else, but he very much still IS with them in the grass. makes u think….
-also the ed has yuri in it and ruri and rin finally. theyre also hanging out and being cute. when will yuri and the girls join the gang. we can all be friends :3 even if ur a lil squirrely evil guy its ok!
-…also shingo blushing and looking at serena. WHAT. have we gotten any inkling of a crush on her from him?? we havent right??? like HUH? she does punch him in her sleep which is so funny KJHADKJF but like. theyd be the funniest couple ever im wheezing
-yeah ok this is my favorite ed so far. its so goddamn cute theyre all just RELAXING TOGETHER BEING ADORABLE. sleeping baby layra and reiji sleeping in his glasses like a nerd sold me.
-I'm around the halfway point of the series I think! thats fun! …none of my big questions have been answered in any substantial way yet hahah. I'm hoping the next arc..we get to see yuri more finally (and for yuto to make a comeback, which. obv he must before the series ends…) and also I want to see ruri and rin more!!! and more lancer interactions in general I want them to hang out and be buds…I know the whole plot is stopping an inter-dimensional war which does fuck severely but I just. dunno. some slice of life eps would be nice after this arc…everything has been go go go fast heavy for a while and i need. a breather (that isnt a recap..)
-something I realized about Character designs (im in the middle of doing fanart while watching haha) Yuya's dad is dressed like a ringleader. yuya is clown-coded (aka part of the ringleaders circus). yuyas dad disappeared. so…would it be insane to assume he might be Behind stuff, like a plot twist villain? I know hes at least INVOLVED SOMEHOW (he gave yuya his pendulum necklace too didnt he…much to think abt) ….hm…. also! fun thing I didnt notice until now is yuya is color matched with his odd eyes isnt he? both are red/green? thats so fun
-yuzu v sergey was a big pile of bullshit. she didnt deserve to lose the first match of the 2nd round. I saw it coming and it still pissed me off. i wanted her to WIN, or at least get to the finals! generally just really annoyed over it. fuck you sergey and fuck you to the ppl who wrote it like that
-yuya v shinji (who I cant help but think of as a k-mart generic brand yusei from the neurotypical section instead of my Beloved Brand Name Yusei from the Autism section) was Tough. yuya is trying to fight for an interdimensional war (…his goal of making everyone smile pushed aside for the moment…which is like. fair. rn dueling is a tool of WAR or REVOLUTION we cant do those with smiles usually…) but shinji is trying to start a revolution against the upper class…neither of them are WRONG and it sucks but yuya as the main character Couldnt Lose. And the stunt Roget pulled after sucked for everyone :< ...cant believe crow actually believed it tho god. I know its for plot reasons but imo hes smarter than that..
-I will say im SO glad sora is back. omg hiii sora :D he 1. saved yuzu 2. WENT TO MAKE SURE YUYA KNEW YUZU WAS OK??? so fucking good Im so Glad. (also bonus points to ME for calling this happening. sora NEVER had any ill will towards the two of them, i KNEW he was attached to them) hes gonna join up soon isnt he :3c i KNEW it. <- pleased I called this (tbf I thought itd happen way later but who knows if its actually happening now or if yuyas just planting seeds of doubt in his brain. sora already is calling academia a hell so. he just needs a gentle lil shove in the right direction...also I want to see him and shun make up an be buds. that might be asking too much tho...shun doesnt owe him forgiveness but...it would b CUTE)
-then him and yuya just sit and talk about it…sora admits theyre his first real friends I AM LIVING RN. BEST BEST TROPE EVER. HE HAD SUCH A HARD LIFE TOO FUCK U ACADEMIA. he SCOURED academia and even checked standard to find yuzu…so sweet… his big plan was to let yuya let him take serena back home instead of yuzu and thats like. even IF yuya was that heartless (which hes obv not…) and they did that, its a band-aid solution bc dennis will prob report yuzu… ergh.
-yuya said he TRUSTS SORA TO KEEP YUZU SAFE. IF HE CANT HES GONNA FEEL LIKE SHIT. HES /GOTTA/ SWITCH SIDES NOW JKDHAKFJ
-they then hype yuri up more like 'ohhh its only a matter of time before they send him!' PROMISE, ROGET?? I WANT TO SEE MORE OF HIM. ITS LIKE. EPISODE 80 AS I TYPE THIS….I THINK WE'VE GOTTEN LIKE. 1-2 MINUTES OF SCREENTIME FOR HIM EVER.
-BY THE WAY. sora is a goddamn parkour master, jumping around on buildings and stuff my god. I know he was trained and stuff by academia whcih we saw a bit of in a flashback montage…but its lichrally insane. anime parkour
-oh my god crow v shun is next. why do birds have to fight….. sad! my prediction is crow wins just bc shun doesnt have any real personal stakes rn...I mean sure the lancers are trying to prove their might or w/e but on a personal level shun has no beef w crow or synchro yk. whereas for crow hes got beef w jack (and now yuya possibly due to the shit roget did lol) so. obv feels like crow will win for meta reasons. same w/ whoever serena ends up dueling later, but we'll see!
anyway. look at them. :)
#arc v#sanchoyo liveblogs arc v#ygo#sanchoyorambles#we got a jack reiji dinner momence and shun sniped dennis from SPACE. what else could i ask for#and sora is BACK!!!!#YEAAAH!!!!!#my predictions are 100% coming true also im VERY pleased abt it#not that it was like. a twist or anything given the context but im STILL glad

Are the ArchieSonic comics actually an 80’s/90’s syndicated cartoon? Episode 66: Summary (part one)
Welcome back to my investigation of whether Archie Comics’ Sonic the Hedgehog series was actually a syndicated cartoon from the 80’s and 90’s! Well friends, I finally finished it. My previous post covered the final two issues of what is in my opinion, the quintessential final finale of the ArchieSonic series. I’ve now gone through all 65 episodes of this theoretical syndicated cartoon that ArchieSonic is supposed to be and covered all of them. So at this point you may justifiably be wondering, “Why is this guy still talking? What’s left?” Well you see, a long time has passed since I started this series. My first post exploring episodes 1 - 5 was posted in December 2022, over 19 months ago! Are you able to remember all the stuff I’ve talked about since then? I know I sure can’t! On top of that, this blog has evolved a lot from what I originally planned. I was expecting most posts to just be short write-ups, showing examples of the comics that fit what the relevant cartoon episode was supposed to be, but over time I branched out into regularly doing reviews of full issues. It took me 13 posts to fully explore all of the various ArchieSonic finales, I had that much to say about them!
If you would like to go back and have a look at any of the previous episodes again, I’ve made up a full table of contents for that. But I thought it was only appropriate to do one final summary, going over every episode of the cartoon and seeing which, if any, ArchieSonic comic issues fit the bill. Due to Tumblr image limits I’m going to have split this into two parts again, but you can find part two here.
Okay, let’s get started!
Episodes 1 - 5: Origin story. Make it a week-long event. Can sell it later on VHS as The Movie.
Well obviously every story has a starting point. …okay, maybe not every story. IDWSonic’s first issue picks up quite a ways into the Sonic lore, after the end of Sonic Forces. But we’re talking about ArchieSonic, not IDW. I noticed that ArchieSonic both started and ended with part of Sonic’s origin story, as Sonic mini #0 gave us a story showing how Robotnik took over the planet and Sonic joined the Freedom Fighters, and Sonic #290 was part of the Genesis of a Hero arc, adapting the original Sonic games. So for this category I’m picking the original Sonic mini-series, numbered issues 0 - 3, even though it was only four issues instead of five.
Episode 6: Body swap
There were a few body swap stories, some good, some extremely forgettable. I’m picking the one that had the biggest impact on the series, which was “Circuit Me” in Sonic #146. In this story an accident sent Sally’s mind into Nicole’s hand-held, and Nicole’s mind into Sally’s body. Though this didn’t last very long, this issue marked the beginning of an important character arc for Nicole, who would in later issues go on to develop her own body and personality.
Episode 7: Everybody shrinks
There were a few different stories involving shrinking, but only one where “everybody” shrinks. That would be “A Little Sonic Goes a Long Way!” from Sonic #8.
Episode 8: Now they’re giant!
There were also a number of stories involving giants, but I think the one that best fits this category is “Zone Wars: Giant Robotno,” from Sonic Super Special #12.
Episode 9: Fall in love at first sight! Oh wait, turns out she’s evil.
Yup, we definitely got this one. Sonic #28 and #29 featured a story called “Growing Pains,” in which Tails fell in love with a character named Fiona Fox. The catch was that “Fiona” was actually a robot built by Robotnik to lure Tails into a trap.
Episode 10: Uh-oh, someone has the hiccups!
Actually… no. We never saw anyone in ArchieSonic get the hiccups, as far as I can remember. The closest we ever got was this nonsense from Sonic #93.
Episode 11: Parody “A Christmas Carol”
Yup, and in one of the earliest issues too. Shout out to “Sonic’s Christmas Carol,” from Sonic #6.
Episode 12: Parody “It’s a Wonderful Life”
Ehhh… debatable, but I’m going to ultimately say no. The closest we got was Knuckles’ “Afterlife,” story in Sonic #121 - 124, after he died and the goddess Aurora treated him to his own personal, “This is Your Life” episode.
Episode 13: Do a standard adventure, but the hero’s also dealing with a cold
I’m going to say no to this one too. Sonic #38’s “Bedtime Tails,” did feature Sonic with a cold, but he was bedridden rather than going on a standard adventure.
Episode 14: Evil twin
Another yes. Sonic #11’s story, “The Good, the Bad, and the Hedgehog” introduced Evil Sonic, who would become a recurring pain in the butt in the series and later undergo a makeover to become Scourge the Hedgehog.
Episode 15: Robot duplicate
Well, obviously. I’m choosing Sonic #25 for this one, which was the first appearance of Metal Sonic (although he was misnamed as Mecha Sonic at the time).
Episodes 16 - 20: MacGuffin chase! Another week-long, VHS-friendly event
There’s one MacGuffin that dominates all of Sonic media, and that’s the Chaos Emeralds. The characters were chasing after those gems on multiple instances in the comics, including almost the entire length of the post-reboot era, when the Freedom Fighters were trying to restore the shattered world.
Episode 21: Love interest returns. Maybe she’s good now?
Fiona Fox again. Only this time it’s the real Fiona, not a robot duplicate. This one was just as inclined to be violent to Tails as the robot model though.
Episode 22: Explosive case of amnesia and Episode 23: Hero is brainwashed to be evil
Two in one for this story - in Sonic #27 and #28, Sonic lost his memory when he got conked on the head, and was tricked by Robotnik into turning on the Freedom Fighters.
Episode 24: Villain forced to be good
Well there was Sonic #108, when Robotnik came back from the dead and after being hunted down by Eggman, sought asylum with the Freedom Fighters. But I think the better example is from the Sonic X comics, during the instances that Dr Eggman decided to take on the persona of a luchador called El Gran Gordo.
Episode 25: Hero and villain reluctantly team up against a greater foe
Yup, this happened a few times, with Robotnik/Eggman having ulterior motives, of course. Both Robo-Robotnik and Enerjak were considered big enough threats that the Freedom Fighters and Robotnik’s forces briefly put aside their differences to cooperate.
Episode 26: Hero and villain glued/chained/otherwise stuck together and begrudgingly cooperate to gain their autonomy
This happened a couple of times too. Sonic and Robotnik were locked up together by the alien collector Car-Heem, and Knuckles and Monk were hunted for sport by… err, Hunter the Hunter. They were forced to wear collars that shocked them if they were too far apart.
Episode 27: Gain super speed
Obviously Sonic had super speed from day one, but there were a couple of other characters over the course of the series who also gained super speed at one point, either temporarily or permanently. The most prominent case was Mina Moongoose, who suddenly found she could run real fast one day for reasons she (at the time) could not explain.
Episode 28: Stuck in slow motion
This one didn’t exactly happen, but considering that from Sonic’s perspective that being without his super speed is in his mind being stuck in slow motion, I’m going to allow this one. And Sonic temporarily lost his speed in Sonic #38.
Episode 29: Time travel to dinosaur times
Yes, in Sonic #12. It was painful.
Episode 30: Time travel to medieval times
Not exactly time travel, but there was a partial adaptation of Sonic and the Black Knight in Sonic #197. Close enough.
Episode 31: Time travel to the distant year of 2000
Travelling to the future came up a few times, mostly involving Silver the Hedgehog.
Episode 32: Almost halfway through. Time for a clip show!
Sonic #57 served as the mid-series clip show, showing flashbacks to most of the previous issues.
Episode 33: Animal character(s) become human or vice/versa
After the universe got rebooted in Sonic #252, Muttski was changed from Sonic’s pet dog to a sentient Mobian. It was… weird.
Episode 34: Idiot comic relief character becomes a genius
Tails was never exactly an idiot, but in the early issues he was treated a lot more like an incompetent little kid whose inexperience and naivety led to mishaps from time to time. In Sonic #14 he ate a fruit from the Mobius Tree of Wisdom and briefly became a super-genius. While this did wear off, this was later retconned to be the cause of Tails becoming a mechanical genius to rival Eggman.
Episode 35: We’re in space now!
Numerous times. There was even a whole arc of Sonic being “Tossed in Space” and trying to get home to Mobius.
Episode 36: New love interest! They get together, yet she never shows up again
There were a few cases of this. The most memorable is the swan lady Vector was trying to charm in “The First Date,” spanning across Knuckles #26 - 28, because of the horrible art and how obnoxiously sexist Vector was in that arc.
Episode 37: Sidekick is kidnapped
Poor Tails got kidnapped or held hostage so many times during the series. Arguably the most memorable case was in Sonic #86 when Metal Sonic grabbed him and left him tied above a volcano that was about to erupt.
Episode 38: Hero is kidnapped (sidekick gets to shine)
Yup, this happened a few times in the series. In post-reboot, Sonic was kidnapped by the Naugus twins after rescuing Tails from the events of Sonic 2 (8-bit). Tails allegedly returned the favour and saved Sonic that time, but we never actually got to see the rescue. So let’s go with Sonic #188, when Sally and Amy saved Sonic after he was abducted by a bunch of villains teaming up.
Episode 39: Babysitting hijinks
This happened a couple of times. The most memorable one is from Sonic #22, when Sally was trying to get Tails to settle down and go to bed. Unfortunately, she didn’t have a copy of “Go the F*** to Sleep,” available.
As I mentioned earlier, I have to split this summary into two seperate parts. You can find the conclusion here!
