Tomorrow With You Review Episode 1 & 2: Tomorrow, the Sun will Rise
It’s going to take some time to heal from Goblin, but the new drama that replaced it’s time slot (ugh... that sounds so sad T.T) is tvN’s new series, “Tomorrow With You.” The story is very promising and also has this similar touch of fantasy with being about time traveling.
So this is going to be a short review and reaction to the first two episodes because the episodes come out today and tomorrow, lol (plus what happened in episodes 1 & 2 is pretty self-explanatory except for a few unsolved questions which I’ll briefly discuss). Basically, the first two episodes were made to setup the story-line for the drama and introduce our main characters.
It’s hilarious how he’s is the only one not suited up, lmao, this scene was great!
At first, Yoo So-Joon is portrayed as a guy who doesn’t give a shit about other people, unless it concerns him, because he has the power to travel to the past, present, and the future by riding the subway, “You may have many questions about your future. But, I decline all questions. I have no interest in the lives of others.” We learn that he could never go beyond March 25, 2019 at 9:15 pm because that will be the day of this death. However, one day he was able to go to that date and witness his death personally... but we don’t know why. He met another time traveller, Doo-sik, who then taught So Joon all about time traveling and gave him the idea to seek out the woman who died with him. So Joon indeed sought out Ma Rin and saved her from dying, despite him stating he doesn’t involve himself in other people’s lives. We slowly learn more about him being a CEO of a huge company and as a guy who has no awareness of how he approaches people -- such as touching Ma Rin casually despite being total strangers. But we further learn that So Joon isn’t what he really seems to be. We learn that he’s an orphan who lost his parents in a subway accident, while he was miraculously saved because of a certain woman who thought he took her pictures. We learn that he felt extremely terrible for being left behind alive and that was when he gained his powers... but we still don’t know why he received his time traveling powers in the first place.
At first, Song Ma-Rin is portrayed as a failure celebrity who is a laughing stock as a drunkard; she became famous for playing Bap Soon. But Ma Rin has a different passion -- photography; however, the photographer whom she admires is a fuckin asshole and treats Ma Rin very disrespectfully (Ugh... who else was pissed when she kept calling her Bap Soon (like her mother and friend)??? She has a name damnit.) Despite all of this negativity in her life, she still has a positive outlook because she survived a train accident... the same train accident So Joon miraculously survived too. Before So Joon learned that Ma Rin was the woman who saved his life, So Joon only approached Ma Rin for the sake of himself... without ever trying to understand Ma Rin. She confused So Joon’s approach towards her as him ‘liking’ her and most likely began to like him in return. However, ever since So Joon involved himself in Ma Rin’s life, his future dramatically changed to the point where they were married 3 months later. Because of this change, So Joon immediately distanced himself from Ma Rin and decided to end things with her... but before he could tell her his true feelings, he learned about Ma Rin’s childhood and how she was forced against her will to be in the show because of her mother. Even though Ma Rin seems to be a straight-forward and head-strong girl, she is timid in asking others for help and doesn’t want to burden others with her problems -- that’s why she didn’t immediately ask So Joon for help to be a model for the photoshoot. Out of pity, So Joon decided to help her one last time and ended their relationship --- tbh, this was an asshole of a move... just saying... >.> Poor baby Ma Rin... I wish I could give her a hug. Ma Rin being herself, played it cool and smiled it away.... saying that they never had a stable relationship to begin with because she doesn’t even know his name.
I personally really like the main characters of this drama... though So Joon appears to be a cold guy -- he actually does care to some extent and that’s why he doesn’t involve himself in other people’s lives because he doesn’t want to hurt them (such as the friend who broke up with his girl friend, but she was actually cheating on him with another guy all the time and So Joon knew that). Though he overworks his best friend, he genuinely cares for his friend and doesn’t hesitate to stand up for him (such as when he was bullied in the elevator... that scene was great, lol). But the greatest character development for So Joon is when he is torn with himself involving in Ma Rin’s life... even though he cut ties with her and returned his future to how it “normally was” where they weren’t married... he still looked for her in the future and that’s how he finally learned that she was the woman who saved him from the train accident. And BAM! So Joon returns to Ma Rin’s side because he’s always wanted to find the woman who saved him... and this time it’s his turn to protect her because she’s going to die with him in the future... frigging onion ninjas T.T
Also, we still don’t know WHY he got his power to time travel.. we just know how he got them. I wonder... perhaps he got his powers in order to save Ma Rin in the future??? Their fates are definitely connected somehow...
I immediately fell in love with Ma Rin... I love how dynamic her character is and I LOVE HER STYLE! It’s cute, fun, and spunky like her. I love how she’s head-strong and wants to live happily, but she’s not perfect... she has her flaws cause she’s human... she loves to drink... she’s clumsy... and sometimes she falls to her temptations, but she’s honest with her actions. Even though the photographer she admires doesn’t like her (for now -- Ma Rin will change her I think because the photographer just needs someone to change her perspective), Ma Rin is an amazing photographer who carefully and lovingly takes pictures and interacts with her models (such as encouraging them and standing up for them). Also, I definitely don’t blame her for thinking So Joon was weird for touching her so often... that was very weird and awkward too. And I definitely don’t blame her for thinking So Joon kinda liked her because he essentially “played” with her because he was using her to understand why she was involved with his future. It wasn’t shocking how Ma Rin and So Joon have already previously met... but it makes me wonder why they don’t remember each other’s faces lol....
I particularly find the other time traveller, Doo-sik, to be very interesting because he knew that So Joon was going to die at that time and was the ONE who suggested him to seek out Ma Rin. He obviously knows more than what he seems because in episode 2, we see he has files and loads of information about years and dates of SOMETHING... perhaps he’s more than just a time traveller??? I kinda think Doo Sik might be ANOTHER So Joon from an alternative world... future... where he failed to save Ma Rin. So I think he’s trying to make amends for his failure by ensuring Ma Rin will survive this world, why else would he be so insistent on So Joon searching Ma Rin and how he EXACTLY knew So Joon’s time and location of death.
I also wonder if there’s a second lead couple... if not... that’s totally fine too cause I love the focus on So Joon and Ma Rin. However, I do want to learn more about So Joon’s friend... he’s so precious... I think he might have a bigger role than just being a bro... while Ma Rin’s model friend definitely might have an important role than just being a model.
Overall, I love the story so far... it kinda reminds me of Goblin with the supernatural feeling, the tragedy, and how both actresses have a tough childhood. I also like how the main guys both have “special powers,” but Shin used his powers to perform miracles while So Joon doesn’t use them for others at all. The colors in Tomorrow With You are so beautiful... I love how they’re so bright and complex. And lastly, I love the subtle usage of the word, “Tomorrow,” in this drama... it’s definitely go to play a big role in this drama considering it’s in the title. Such as in episode 1, Ma Rin said in the car after them drinking together, “Tomorrow, the sun will rise.”
Oh... and sorry Reporter guy... even though you were the one who helped So Joon and Ma Rin back together with your article... homeboy So Joon belongs with Ma Rin... lmao (it was kinda sad how he just got tossed to the side when So Joon came and took her away).
I can’t wait to see what will unfold cause So Joon came back and TOLD her his name... and asked, “Who are you?” Well... boy... she is the woman who is gonna teach you about life, love, and is gonna sweep you off your feet, lol.
She’s your wife. And you better damn save her. T.T

Tomorrow With You Review Episode 3 & 4: In my eyes, I see you telling me not to leave
Sorry for the late review again Dx It’s been such a hectic week for me. Wow, quite a bit happened between these two episodes, while we also learned more about each of the characters and their personalities. Personally, I think the storyline is moving along nicely at a good pace with one of the biggest turning points of them getting married at the end of episode 4. However, before we talk about this turning point, I think it’s important to understand WHY they got married and WHY So Joon had a change of heart concerning Ma Rin.
Episode 3 did a fantastic job at showing us how time travel works in this drama and how So Joon changes his perspective of Ma Rin -- when he discovers that she was the person who saved him from the train wreck 7 years ago. However, Ma Rin doesn’t remember him and he told her that they must “continue meeting each other,” -- basically he decided to keep approaching her after discovering the truth because now he knows they have a “connection.” Ma Rin doesn’t fall for him easily and puts up her defenses in order to protect herself from getting hurt again, after all, he was the one who told her that they shouldn’t meet again. So Joon begins to record how he and Ma Rin are connected and realized that the day of their death is 10 years from the subway incident. He then realized that his future self knew of this truth but hid it from him all along... while his future self also told So Joon that “Knowing won’t change anything.” With this, I infer that his future self knows that trying to change their fate won’t be easy, such as getting married may not change their deaths -- he’s definitely hiding something but it seems like his future self has given up and has accepted his fate.
Ma Rin got into a little trouble with copyright infringement and broke her camera when she tried to run away from the reporters. So Joon sought out Doo-Sik for advice and he told So Joon to have a child. We learn that Doo-Sik did the same thing, “I wanted to help her, so I tried everything. So, I told her to date. They were with each other night and day. They had a child.... She was my daughter. An unexpected life... that is how to change the fate of death. That’s what I think.” I find this particularly interesting because this might mean either two things: 1) he’s Ma Rin’s father or 2) he’s an alternate So Joon from another future. I still kinda think he’s an alternate So Joon from another future, but then this wouldn’t be true if Doo-Sik has met the other future So Joon knowing that meeting your future self will erase your existence.
For the rest of episode 3, So Joon tried his best to make up with Ma Rin but she doesn’t easily cave in. I thought it was adorable how he kept thinking about children… lmao… I totally bet he thought to himself that Ma Rin would be a good mother when he saw her with the kids, lmao. But probably the biggest revelations were 1) Ma Rin remembered So Joon from the subway incident, and 2) we learn how both So Joon and Ma Rin died… a car ran her over and another car flipped and hit So Joon’s. From the looks of it, it looks like future So Joon knew how Ma Rin was going to die, but from his last line… it seems like he and Ma Rin didn’t work out and that’s why he couldn’t save her, “Why don’t you try making things work with that woman?”
It was a very powerful moment when So Joon went to see Ma Rin before she died, “I will save you.” This definitely was the turning point for So Joon to act and to change Ma Rin’s fate; however, So Joon couldn’t get back on the subway in time to leave before his future self died and he turned to dust. However, in episode 4, So Joon didn’t disappear and was somehow able to return to the present. I still wonder how he was able to return… Perhaps his strong will to not die allowed him to jump back in time without riding the subway??? But I love how So Joon’s touch became gentler rather than just harshly grabbing her arm when she came to see him at the hospital.
I love how innocent Ma Rin is. >.< I also love how these two dorks initially didn’t touch each other’s bag/wallet to not be rude… and then proceeded to look through them anyways, lmao. But the best part was the dinner… I love Ma Rin’s reaction to them “living together” under the same roof and So Joon calling her “flower.” You might think she’s being a bit childish, but this is the first time anyone has treated her this way and she’s not used to it, hence when she said, “… like a lump that’s been in my heart all my life that is dissolving.” Ma Rin is not used to special treatment and that’s why she pushed him away because she doesn’t want to get hurt from his actions being insincere — such as her so called friend who humiliated her in front of the directors of So Joon’s company. Ugh… I just wanted to rip that girl’s hair off and hug Ma Rin T.T And So Joon couldn’t do anything for Ma Rin because 1) he was in the director’s house and 2) he doesn’t want to further cause attention towards Ma Rin. You could see the disgust and pain in his eyes as he watched Ma Rin get humiliated by Gun Sook. I’m sure he wanted to punch the b*tch, but she’s “Ma Rin’s friend” and the director’s wife — So Joon is actually a very respectful man and doesn’t want to necessarily make fun of others nor cause anymore trouble for them.
I can’t really say I like Ma Rin’s mother… other than she’s hilarious af, “CEO? What is that? How funny. I told her to date a senior manager, at the very least.” Her reaction when she learned what CEO means and when she went to see So Joon’s company were priceless. xD BUT OMG!!! HE LOOKS GOOD IN A SUIT, DAMN SON. But even better, the entire scene between him and Ma Rin when she tried to stop him from seeing her mother was HOT! From him holding her hands to hugging her… so much chemistry damnit. At this point, I don’t think neither of them necessarily love each other, but they do care for each other to some degree because 1) she defended him even though her friend was trash-talking him and 2) So Joon read her entire email about her life (this definitely made him understand Ma Rin better than before — he learned how selfless she is despite being used and abused over and over. AND THAT KISS… AHHHHHH…. it was a really nice kiss… sweet and sexy all at the same time... but just kinda lacking that extra bang of emotions cause they don’t really love each other yet.
When they went to his house, why did So Joon hide the beer??? Well, I think he wanted to keep her sober, lol. After all, he wanted to confirm that she was okay with living with him and dating (which eventually led to their marriage!). Ma Rin doesn’t expect anything great of her man other than loving and understanding each other… but I think So Joon hasn’t realized this and this will eventually lead to problems in their relationship because Ma Rin is looking for a real relationship where both sides of the party equally contribute to each other while So Joon doesn’t really take relationships seriously. After all, I think So Joon summed up his feelings for Ma Rin quite well with these lines of his, “I fee nervous leaving you alone. I feel like something will happen. I keep worrying…. Strangely, I really want to be involved in your life. I think that would be right…. So, stay by my side. So that I can protect you. Put your future in my hands.” Essentially, he thinks by staying by her side is the “right” thing to do to save her from her death, but that doesn’t mean he loves her yet.
I don’t even want to think future about what might have happened after that bed scene, lol. >.> But soon after seeing them date, they get married! So Joon quickly moves all of his future stuff to his friend’s apartment to hide it from Ma Rin. We also learn that So Joon doesn’t plan to tell Ma Rin that he can time travel, as well as, his outlook on marriage, “A housemate with a lifelong contract. I don’t know why people put so much meaning into marriage. You can just live the way you did while respecting each other’s style.” Well there, that’s already a HUGE blinking red light for WARNING: IT’S NOT GONNA BE SWEET AND SIMPLE AS THAT! I also want to point out, another beautiful usage of the word “tomorrow” in this episode when Ma Rin went to tell the subway victims, “I’m getting married tomorrow.” This is important because Ma Rin always shows her respect to the victims of the subway incident because that accident changed her entire outlook on life.
On the day of their wedding, it rained. This may symbolize, despite the happiness that marriage represents, the future struggles both So Joon and Ma Rin will face together because they married. Also, remember the first time So Joon gave Ma Rin a “green” umbrella when it rained? Green symbolizes a new start and growth, which represents how them meeting is the start of their adventure together and overcoming obstacles in their relationship. Now, they just opened a new door together by getting married but the presence of yellow can symbolize both positive and negative things. Positively, yellow represents happiness and hope, which may mean that Ma Rin and So Joon might have a happy ending as they shield each other from the rain being each other’s umbrella. Negatively, yellow also represents deceit, caution, and unstableness which may mean that their relationship will be difficult because they didn’t necessarily marry each other on a good foundation of trust and love (So Joon is hiding the truth from Ma Rin). I think Ma Rin might like So Joon with a bit of love because she looked at him during their vows, but she hasn’t completely given her heart to him just yet. As for So Joon, I think the reason why he didn’t look so “thrilled” on his wedding day was because 1) he probably feels guilty for involving Ma Rin, and 2) he’s got a lot on his shoulders with trying to prevent both of their deaths. Plus, I think he’s afraid of Ma Rin discovering the truth of his time traveling abilities as Ma Rin has noticed how he is able to determine the weather more accurate than the forecast.
Ahhh, Ma Rin is just so adorable. >.< I think she’s genuinely happy, but she may also be putting up a cute act so that she doesn’t trouble So Joon. While at the same time, So Joon is uncomfortable and not used to the change in his life (that’s why he didn’t wake up, he cringed his feet, and didn’t do the heart sign in return). But I think they both don’t regret getting married to each other, and rather they are still shocked that they are really married because 1) they are both smiling at the end and 2) their last lines, “That man and I… That woman and I… got married.”
So what do I think is going to happen next? I think we might get more of the childhood friends in the next few episodes cause they had quite a bit of screen time… Se-Young might stir trouble because 1) she is starting to get suspicious of So Joon and might discover his time traveling powers and 2) she’s definitely jealous of Ma Rin because I think she loves So Joon (sorry to break it to you honey, but people change lol). Perhaps we’ll also learn new things considering that So Joon has changed his future by marrying Ma Rin, therefore his future self will also change. Lastly, I want to learn more about Doo-Sik. He’s such a mysterious character because I just can’t tell if he’s Ma Rin’s father, an alternate future of So Joon, or neither. From the way he looked at them on their wedding day, it kinda looked like he was reminiscing about something… perhaps it reminded him of how he married that woman he saved? Ahhh so many questions lol. But I like the pacing so far and the pacing is nice. It’s also nice to see our main characters interacting with so much chemistry, considering they both are in their 30′s and have never been in a relationship before, lol. They are just so flippin cute >.< I WANT TO SEE THEIR BABIES NOW THAT IT’S BEEN MENTIONED!!!
