A day late because I was a bit too tired but...
Let's talk about Govindudu Andarivadele!
youtube
There are many forms of love, besides romantic love. And although this movie does deal with romantic love, it also gives us a great picture of family love and, more important, love for one roots, past, and country.
It also shows Ram Charan in a rare ALMOST non-action hero (almost as we do have two fight scenes, but they're not... as intense as his usual fare) so if you want to see him in a very different role from Alluri Rama Raju? This is a good choice!

I loved RRR.
Have I mentioned that I loved RRR?
Because I loved RRR.
And here's a reminder of that video I made talking about the amazing subtleties in the narrative in the movie, using language and language barriers to tell the story (besides, you know, everything else that was also used to tell the story)
Seriously, if you haven't watched RRR, WATCH RRR now! Your life will be changed.

My first video when I fell down the Tollywood Rabbit hole was Rangasthalam, an amazing film that also has some of the best deafness representation I've seen in a long while! I adore Chitti Babu, because he is a very real character, someone you can imagine you will bump into in the street. Check the video out if you want, but more importantly, watch the movie!

Hi there! I see you've been reblogging alot about RRR and mentioned about getting into Bollywood as well. I just wanted to give a word of warning to you. India is currently under a very far right government and as a result Islamaphobia in India is at an all time high. Alot of the Bollywood films coming out in the last 10 to 15 ish years have had a steady trend towards islamaphobic propaganda (including blatantly rewriting history in films set in the past to vilify Muslim figures) since the government has a greater hand in it than other Indian film industries like Tollywood etc. So please be aware of this as you watch as some of it can be especially insidious. It's genuinely made it difficult for me as an Indian Muslim to engage with a lot of newer bollywood films especially since most Indian people of other religions tend to refuse to acknowledge it since it doesnt effect them or even benifits them in someway. Bollywood films are great in their own way especially older ones prior to Modhi and his lot coming into power and India has so many different film industries that have their own take on things! It's been wonderful seeing your foray into them and I hope my message doesn't discourage you from exploring Indian media more! I suppose I'm just a bit worried especially when certain things may not seem or be obvious as islamaphobia to someone without the expected cultural context if that makes sense? Anyway all of your posts about RRR have been a delight and I love forward to your reactions to other Indian media too! Much love x
Hi!
I have been informed that RRR is Tollywood rather than Bollywood, so I am going to try to get to see more Tollywood before diving into Bollywood, but yeah, Indian media has my attention. I've been rewatching RRR in specific because I admit I have a huge crush on Ram Charam and unfortunately, the other movies in Netflix don't have him so I don't know where to start!
Still, thank you for your warning because yeah, I do worry about islamophobia in media (My brother, mexican like myself, converted to islam about 10 years ago and thus, while I am not muslim, I do worry about both overt and subtextual islamophobia just as I worry about anti-semitism due to my many jewish friends) so I will try to keep my eyes open to those things and so some research when anyone recomends me a movie before watching it :) I will admit, one of the things I liked about RRR is that they don't vilify the muslim family that takes Bheem in, and in fact, they're also very heroic in their own way, so that was sweet to see as I did know that India has been having issues with islamohobia lately.
BTW, my personal favorite genre of movies is horror. Any good Tollywood or Bollywood movies or series you can recommend me on that genre? Thanks!
