National Fitness Day
National Fitness Day on the first Saturday in May offers an  opportunity to be inspired and try new ways of becoming fit and healthy.
The day is dedicated to everyone – not just health enthusiasts. Step  out and try a class that looks interesting. Zumba? Yoga? Yes, try it for  a day. Perhaps you only want to get out and stretch. Do it!
Maybe you already have a nice routine but want to try something new.  The day is an excellent way to shake up your routine. And while you’re  at it, bring a friend.
HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalFitnessDay
Find events near you or register an event. Don’t see one near you?  Create one. Motivate your community to be healthier and active.
Other ways to participate include:
Walk or jog a different route than you usually do.
Try a new, healthy recipe.
Replace the fries with a salad at lunch.
Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Take the dog for a walk.
Order from the light side of the menu.
Set the alarm for 20 minutes earlier and do some yoga, stretch, or just go for a walk.
Ban the sofa before 7 pm. Make a list of alternate activities to do  that keep you moving and away from the tv, computer, and social media.
Do you get enough sleep? Make a goal of going to bed at the same time every night and waking the same time every morning.

Toftenäs Trail, Sweden (No. 5)
A large bridge swoops from Stenungsund (on the Swedish mainland) to the island of Tjörn, a magnet for artists thanks to its striking landscapes and cutting-edge watercolour museum. Sailors are equally smitten, with one of Sweden’s biggest sailing competitions, the Tjörn Runt, taking place here in August.

Toftenäs Trail, Sweden (No. 8)
Tjörn Municipality (Tjörns kommun) is a municipality that covers the island of Tjörn in Västra Götaland County in western Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Skärhamn.
Tjörn is the sixth largest Swedish island. It is located in the province of Bohuslän.
The former municipal entities on the island and adjacent islets were united to form Tjörn Municipality in 1952.
For centuries the local economy was dominated by fishing and boat building. The largest employers are still the shipping company TransAtlantic (formerly known as B&N) and the shipyards Djupviks varv and Rönnängs varv.
Tjörn is connected in the east to the town of Stenungsund on the mainland by the Tjörn bridge, and in the north to the island of Orust by the Skåpesund bridge. The municipal capital, Skärhamn, is also the municipal capital. Other communities, many of which are the fishing communities, include Rönnäng, Klädesholmen and Kyrkesund. The island of Mjörn, north-east of Tjörn, has large shell banks.

Toftenäs Trail, Sweden (No. 1)
The walk starts in Toftenäs, Skärhamn, where there is an information board. The description of the way described below is based on going north to begin with. Follow the orange markings on posts and rocks. The marks are rather spaced, but since the trail is walked often there is little risk of going the wrong way. In some places the trail can be rather wet in rainy weather or after snow has melted, but if the correct precautions are taken this presents no problem. There are animals grazing in the meadows.

Toftenäs Trail, Sweden (No. 6)
After crossing the Tjörnbron, the Tjörn Bridge, with its coral-coloured cables with sky-blue attachments, the traveller descends to Sweden's sixth largest island, with an area of 148 km². Popular with tourists, it grows from 15,000 inhabitants in winter to 45,000 in summer. In terms of activities, it is the ideal island for hiking or cycling, not to mention its pleasant swimming spots. But it is surely the contemporary art lovers who will fall in love with this island, as they will find the Nordiska Akvarell Museet (watercolour museum), which presents the works of artists of the moment, from Sweden or elsewhere, as well as the amazing Parc Pilane where, in the middle of nature, sublime sculptures by artists from all over the world are displayed.

National Walking Day
The first Wednesday in April is National Walking Day and it encourages Americans of all ages to get out  and stretch their legs and get their hearts pumping. The American Heart  Association sponsors this day to remind people about the health benefits  of taking a walk. Wear your sneakers (or take them with you) to work,  and at some point in the day, take a 30-minute walk.
Here are some great ways to make that 30-minutes more enjoyable:
Wear comfortable clothes.
Take a friend to pass the time.
Make sure to stretch those muscles.
Drink plenty of water.
Move your arms, too.
Make sure you have good posture.
Take thirty minutes out of your day to  go for a walk. Find a trail near you or walk around your neighborhood.  You can also visit a local park or walk on your treadmill. Take your  canine pals with you, too. They need the cardiovascular workout, too!  When the family has finished your walk around the block or park,  complete this fun word search puzzle.
Do you need some visual inspiration while walking on the treadmill? Take this walk along the beach.
The American Heart Association launched National Walking Day in 2007 as part of its efforts to promote healthy living.

International Day of Happiness
First celebrated in 2013, International Day of Happiness was created by the United Nations to highlight the role of happiness in helping people lead fulfilling lives around the world. On June 28, 2012, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 66/281, which proclaimed International Day of Happiness to take place on March 20 each year. The resolution recognized “the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world and the importance of their recognition in public policy objectives,” and also recognized “the need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and the well-being of all peoples.” All 193 United Nations member states adopted the resolution.
The resolution was initiated in part by Bhutan, a country that had earlier adopted the goal of Gross National Happiness (GNH) instead of Gross National Product (GDP), after beginning to focus on national happiness over national income in the early 1970s. In April 2012, Bhutan hosted the “Happiness and Well-Being: Defining a New Economic Paradigm” conference at the General Assembly. This was the first high-level meeting about happiness at the United Nations, and over 30 countries were in attendance.
Jayme Illien, a special advisor to the United Nations, also played a large role in getting the day started. He came up with the idea for the day and brought it to senior United Nations officials. Another important lead-up to the creation of the day was the adoption of a resolution by the General Assembly in July 2011. It said that happiness is a “fundamental human goal” and called for “a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes the happiness and well-being of all peoples.“
In 2013, the first year in which the day was held, a focus was put on celebrating those who bring much happiness to communities, who were known as "Happy Heroes.” Inaugural events for the day were held at the United Nations and the United Nations Foundation. The day was also launched with an event at the TedXTeen conference in New York City, with Ndaba Mandela, the grandson of Nelson Mandela, as well as Hillary Clinton and her daughter, Chelsea, in attendance.
How to Observe
According to the resolution that created the day, the United Nations General Assembly “Invites all Member States, organizations of the United Nations system and other international and regional organizations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations and individuals, to observe the International Day of Happiness in an appropriate manner, including through education and public awareness-raising activities.” The United Nations also said they invite “each person of any age, plus every classroom, business and government to join in celebration…” So, anyone can celebrate, whether individually or as part of a group, and two of the focuses are on education and public awareness-raising. The overall goal while celebrating the day should be to spread happiness to all.
The official website of the day, which is partnered with the United Nations, lays out some ideas on how to celebrate the day. Action for Happiness has coordinated a campaign each year to go with the day. They bring together many organizations and also run a website that illustrates some ideas on how to celebrate the day.
