Rui x Reader who is really affectionate, but can't touch him because of The Curse.

A/N: I'm alive!! Rui my beautiful beautiful tragic boy. I've actually been having a lot of brainrot for this game, particularly an isekai AU that made me contemplate making RP blog (I love you guys btw. This is probably my first fandom where they're so active, I've been really well connected with this fandom somehow and it's so fun!!), so I figured I might as well be writing it down now. This is an idea I've had spinning in my head for a while, so it's VERY self-indulgent/insert, but enjoy!! AO3 link here

Rui's POV. Second-person pronoun "You" is used. Angst! But also fluff!! (825 words)

You’ve always been an affectionate little thing. It’s something Rui finds adorable about you, staying optimistic despite all that looms over you, not letting any of the ghouls he KNOWS can be more than a little much sometimes destroy your positive attitude. It’s as if you decided to be the light in a place that literally has dark in its name, and he lov admires you for that.

He can’t help but feel the bitter green of envy though, when he watches you ruffle Lyca’s hair after he whines at you for treating him like a dog. 

He pointedly turns away from the look Ed gives him over your head when you relax into his chest after he leans over your shoulder.  

He just laughs along at your drunken antics when you nuzzle into Haru’s hand, somehow even more touchy when your cheeks are flushed with alcohol. 

He tries not to remember the flash of hurt, confusion, the first time he’d backed away from your hand when all you wanted to do was give him a pat for a job well done. He doesn’t know if it hurt more when your face morphed into regretful understanding, or when you apologised and told him you’d try not to do it again. 

Rui tells himself it’s for the better when he notices you’ve been avoiding him for the past week. He’d have done the same to you anyway, if he realised his feelings were starting to fester. He tries to not let it get to him when he hears you enter the Obscuary mansion, only to quickly patter up the stairs without stopping by the bar first, as you would have done previously. 

Maybe before, he would have made it a little competition to see who could mess up the other’s hair more. He’d watched you run your fingers through Lyca’s after you’d tousled it out of place, anyway. Maybe in another life, you’d gently hold his face as you showered him with kisses. He’d do the same to you anyway, if he wasn’t forced to keep his hands to himself. 

If he didn’t notice you hold your hand back every time you saw his mask slip. If he didn’t see your hand stop short before pulling it back to tell him he had a bit of hair out of place. 

It’s all just part of the cursed life, he tells himself. He should be getting used to it by now, he sighs as he walks down the hall over to his room. 

Behind him, he hears the jingle of the bell you like to wear on your keychain. He turns at the sound of your quick steps approaching. 

“Rui! Ruiruiruiii!!” You call.

“Ah, there you are! Haha, I’m not going anywhere you know~ though I guess I don’t mind being chased?” He teases as you approach. 

You smile up at him brightly, “I have something to show you!” You tell him, he notices now that you have a hand behind your back. 

“Hm? Aw, did you get me a gift? And here I was thinking you were hiding from me!” He regrets the words the moment they leave his mouth. Your smile falters a bit as you blink at his confession. 

But before he can backtrack with a “Just kidding!” your smile lightens again, eyes filling with some sort of resolve as you pull out… a glove on a stick? in your other hand.

He doesn’t pull away when he feels the simulation of a hand on his head. He can’t, when you look into his eyes with such unmistakable fondness. The awkward, stilted movements as you try to run the imitation hand through his hair communicates how long you’ve wanted to do this, and the tears that well up in his eyes betray how much he’s needed it. 

He feels the cloth soak up the tears when you move the glove down to hold his face. It feels soft under his skin, and he can’t help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. 

“How long did it take you to make this?” He asks as you let him lace his fingers with your hand extension. He squeezes the plush hand, feeling the soft give before it reaches the stick inside, inspecting where the glove and stick are attached. 

“Um! A week? It took a bit of experimenting to get it to stay on… And they don’t really sell gloves on campus either.” 

Your eyes crinkle when you look at him, the corners of your lips pull up triumphantly when he lets go of the hand to let you pat his head again. 

“You deserve at least this much,” you tell him. “I know it’s not really the same or anything, but I don’t wanna leave you out, y’know?” 

“It was worth it though, if it made you happy.” You look into his eyes as you say this, and he can’t help but believe you.

If you start complaining that you feet hurt, he'll just chuckle and tell you that it's time to leave then

You thought you'll be the one dragging Kaito from one store to another, but it's actually the other way around

Kaito's R&R's get approved so rarely because of his grades and avoidance of missions that he's so excited to see what cool new clothes is now in his favorite stores

Also wants to try every new stall with food

You two end up spending almost the whole day at the mall even though both of you can barely walk with how much your feet hurt

Maybe you also initially came with Lucas, but "accidentally" left him in some book store

Leo invited Leo

So now your self care date is turned into a livestream or a vlog at least

Well... The good thing is that at least if you're getting some procedure like nails or hair done, Leo pays for it

Clothes, however, is a bit of a disaster if your style doesn't match up with Leo's

You think you find a cute something and Leo only responds with a snide remark

Oh, also since he's so super famous, people will be stopping you to ask for a photo or to get something signed

If you want to have some fun with it, you can drop some hints to his fans that you might be dating him to later see them loose their mind online (If you're not in a relationship or in a public one)

THE best ghoul to go with you

In Towa's opinion, everything looks amazing on you

And if there's a flower shop at the mall, you know that Towa will buy you a bouquet that he'll try not to eat

Maybe he'll even ask you to watch some romance movie with him in the cinema at the mall

At some point you might loose Towa, having wandered off somewhere and when he comes back, he'll proudly present you with a small gift

Like matching keychains or bracelets

Pain

Romeo is a pain to go shopping for clothes with

That thing looks bad, that shade of blue is disgusting, that fabric quality makes him itchy just from looking

Not even expensive/designer brands are spared from his constant critique

And when a glimmer of hope appears and some store and its goods are good enough for Romeo, he'll harass any poor employee with questions and abbreviations

Confusing the poor worker, which in turn makes his displeased at the customer service

A tip: don't take Romeo thrifting

In the better case he'll just complain like in normal stores, but should the thrift shop have some of his own designs, he'll reign terror

From arguing with the poor cashier that they should charge more money for the piece and give him most of the profit all the way to blowing the building up

Just like Towa will want to buy you something matching, but instead of disappearing to make it a secret, he'll ask for your opinion before purchase

Definitely will treat you to a café date and try to frame it as an actual date (if you're not in a relationship)

With so much people at the mall, you're bound to encounter some spirits and Haku tries his best to help them pass on as discreetly as possible

At first you were worried that the crowded mall would be too much for Lyca, but he insisted on going along with you

Once you'RE there, Lyca does start feeling overstimulated from all those different people, smells, lights and sounds, but refuses to admit it

Shopping with Lyca is actually fun and simple

He tends to gravitate to fabrics that feel nice

... until he starts rubbing his face on it to test how soft it really feels

Which would be fine with maybe few things, but not all of them

Oh and if you let Lyca into a ballpit at the children's zone, expect to be leaving hours later with a totally exhausted wolfboy from all the playing

He may be older than Sho, but I see him as an absolute man-child when it comes to it

Shenanigans include hitting on a mannequin with some lingerie on; looking thoughtfully at an article of clothing as if he's contemplating buying it despite it costing twice the amount his life is worth ($2); or scaring unattended children

Sometimes he'll get stopped by people because they think he's some other blindfold-wearing white-haired overgrown toddler

As a true chaos personified, he doesn't correct them and even feeds them some hilariously bad info about his personal life

[Funeral Event Opener]

Alli was in a cheery mood despite it being the date of her own funeral. But "funeral" was just the name she was using for it. It was more so.... a self indulgent party with coffins and flowers.

She sent invitations out to just about everyone but the boring general students. Alli wanted as many people as possible to come and celebrate her. And she wanted to make sure they had fun too. She skipped all her morning classes (which isn't anything new) just to decorate the dark Obscuary forest with lanterns and ribbons. When she was looking for the lost "leafy guy" weeks ago, she found a nice clearing in the woods adjacent to a river- the perfect place to hold her funeral.

After weeks of selling feet pictures online, she finally had enough to buy herself a pretty coffin and a pretty dress! Her coffin was black with delicately carved wood embroidery. Red velvet cushions lined the inside as silver accents accentuated the exterior. Her dress, like the coffin, and her hair, was mostly black with red as a secondary color. It was of the gothic lolita variety- having a pigeon-breasted top with lace embroideries and multiple ruffled layers. Her waist was sinched with a small corset, complimenting the puffy layers shaping her. The skirt of her dress was just a few inches above the knee. Which would usually feel too modest for Alli... but she remembers being told before that a modest dress code is a big part of funerals.

She didn't originally plan on it, but she decided to stock up on a few snacks. For the guests. She even brought non-toxic flowers for Towa and plain, boring, rooibos tea - just in case Jiro came. Alli didn't want anyone leaving early just because they were hungry! She did a gracious amount of accommodation for guests considering this party was supposed to be about her. Alli didn't even bring her snakes! Though, of course, she brought her beloved Kithy along. Every boy deserves to be invited to his mother's funeral.

Along with guest accommodations, Alli also worked relentlessly on the playlist for the occasion. She wanted the playlist to reflect her inside and out, for it to be so impactful that anytime someone hears "There’s a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven’t Thought of It Yet" by Panic! At the Disco, they burst into tears from the overwhelming emotions attached to Alli's funeral.

After triple-checking that everything was in tip-top shape, she sent out a doodled map to all of her WickChat contacts. If no one showed up, she could just blame it on the map instead of spiraling into convincing herself that everyone hates her.

Everything was in order. Now all she has to do is wait for people to arrive!

I feel like this is the best I can draw right now of what my interpretation of vagastorme tohma would look like.

I don’t think he had the monocle and his hair was a messier no tie, blazer optional but I think it be harder to fight in it personally.

I just think he took the right hand attendant look to mask what he was like in the past. I truly think he looked more unkept than he does now… not by a lot mind you just like a bit more polished then he was and then throw a monocle on top.

So umm yeah hope you like it.
