Get to know the CSUF Social Media team Spring 2017

Introduction: 

Sup y’all my name is Matt Monge and I’m that cute intern who sometimes takes over Snapchat. This is my final semester here at CSUF and I will graduate in May. My major is Communications, emphasis in Broadcast and Journalism. 

What is your role with CSUF Social Media: 

I’m da boss (jk I wish). I help with the postings on all the Social Media platforms. You might have seen me do a Snapchat Takeover or watched our weekly calendar videos on Facebook.

How many semesters have you been with CSUF Social Media: 

This is my first semester here with CSUF Social Media. Hopefully I can stay forever.

What is your favorite platform?: 

TWITTER! They call me the GIF King, so I’m a big deal..... SO yeah. Messing with students and making them laugh is always fun.

Favorite campaign: 

I really enjoyed the Tuffy Loves Me on Valentine’s Day. I can’t give away any secrets on what my part for the campaign. Let’s just say it was a roaring experience. 

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?

This lol. Also sending GIFs out on Twitter.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I love watching sports, that’s my biggest hobby. I played sports my whole life so it goes hand in hand. Going to Angel games! 

Some interests are hanging out with my brothers at PIKE!

What would you like to be famous for?

My looks tbh.

What is your Dream Job?

Working for ESPN since my life revolves around sports. It has always been a dream to work for them. So if you know anybody giving away jobs there, hit me up.

“Each of us is on a unique journey in life, and our prior experiences culminate in how we carry out our present roles. I feel blessed that my dreams of working in the aviation industry and higher education have come true, and they were deepened after graduating from college and returning to teach at my high school alma mater. My graduate school alma mater gave me my first valuable experience in higher education after working at United Airlines. At Cal State Fullerton, everything from my professional past has come into place in my position as an academic librarian: teaching, counseling, interaction with people, customer service. I always try to meet people where they are in their respective journeys. It’s humbling because I learn a lot from my interactions with others. What I’m committed to is being a navigator, helping to guide people through the library’s resources. I feel I am at my most authentic self in what I’m doing right now.”

Previously worked as a high school Spanish teacher, academic and college/career counselor, United Airlines flight attendant and recruiter, and student services professional.

“I tell my students, you’re probably not going to look in the classifieds and see ‘Wanted: Anthropologist.’ But on career days, when I’m talking to employers, they tell me that they love anthropologically trained students. Anthropology students learn the art of observation, they learn how to talk to people, how to write, and they appreciate the importance of people’s beliefs and traditions. They’re gaining a holistic understanding of the world.”

Barbra Erickson, Ph.D., professor of anthropology. Ongoing research on the use of radioactive radon gas as a remedy incorporates gerontology, medical anthropology, and organizational anthropology; she has conducted fieldwork on this topic in the U.S., where radon is considered an “alternative” therapy, and in Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic, where it is prescribed by medical doctors.

“There’s this perception that PR is all about spin. On the first day of class, I ask my students, ‘What is PR?’ Then I put up a picture of Samantha Jones from Sex and the City. I point to her and say, ‘It’s not that!’ PR works best when it’s quieter, more immediate. The world is flooded with press releases, they’re all just blah blah blah. I try to teach my students the importance of the story. I get them to ask, ‘How can we create a compelling story that’s inclusive and positive? How can we help our client make society better?’”
