You know that post a few days ago when I said I had more games in my Steam library than I could ever play?
I just added another one. 😐
Tumblr media
But I’ve heard good things about Titanfall 2 ANNNNND the ultimate edition is currently on sale for $2.99, so how could I pass that up, right? *adjusts halo* 😇
And speaking of Halo... I’m now 1,076 hours in on that and 45 hours on Mass Effect: Andromeda! Am I a real gamer yet? I DO have a pretty distinctive gaming style, if I do say so myself. I call it...
Tumblr media
...on fiiiYAH!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Okay, so that was early in my Halo 2 days, you can tell because I was letting the marine drive, lol. The Halo: Reach Troop Warthog (which I’ve learned to save on ONI: Sword Base *proud* 😂😉) is animated to be on fire like that, so he was fine. Me, Kat and the gang were on our way to do work, lol. 😉 The Mass Effect Andromeda NOMAD... was genuinely on fire because I have a bad habit of thinking I can ram enemies with it. 🐏🤷‍♀️😂 You might notice I’m booking it because I noticed a potential forward station site that could (and did) save me, lol!
I’m having so much fun with the MCC and ME: Andromeda; I mean, just seriously, sooooo much fun! I’m looking forward to playing the original Mass Effect trilogy ASAP and then I have so many awesome choices after that! That’s a beautiful dilemma to have, IMO. 🤗💖

Three Accidental Shortish Reviews
They asked us to write a few, like, "staff's picks" at the shop and if you know me I love getting to ramble about video games I think people should play. I figured those little blurbs are worth sharing/preserving here too.
So I guess here's three mini reviews/recommendations from yours truly. No spoilers or anything really.
Tumblr media
Titanfall 2 feel like if you approached designing a first person shooter with the inventiveness and sheer tightness you find in Mario games. It’s not hard for me to say that Titanfall 2’s campaign is far and away the best FPS campaign I’ve played, with singular levels more memorable than some entire games I’ve played. If you’ve played Apex Legends at all you’ve already got some baseline familiarity with the mechanics at play, although instead of a battle royal playground you’re instead led through impressively thought out levels with gimmicks each more memorable than the last. It’s not the sort of shooter where you’re just hiding behind cover mowing down waves of enemies in a generic warzone. Instead you’re running across walls or jumping into your mech while fighting through an assembly line or playing with reality bending mechanics straight out of Portal.
If you consider yourself a fan of shooters, especially those with satisfying movement and creative levels- Titanfall 2 is a must play. It is as important to the genre as something like Half-Life or the original Modern Warfare, Titanfall 2 not only helped form the basis of modern movement shooters, but its engine and core mechanics have been adapted into further projects from the company. Even if you never touch the multiplayer, Titanfall 2 is a game well worth your time and one that will make you wish for more shooters that are half as creative with their run time and level layouts.
Tumblr media
Viva Piñata is one of those little gems that’s only so underappreciated because it lives on the Xbox. If it were a Nintendo title people would be intensely angry every time a new entry wasn’t announced any given Direct. Instead Viva Piñata lives on the console of Halo and Gears of War, and thus this novel little garden tending simulator lives in the periphery of most peoples’ memories. It doesn’t help that the 4Kids produced cartoon anthropomorphized the cute Piñata animals into over the top 4Kids caricatures and likely gave many people an impression that Viva Piñata was something it wasn’t. In the actual game the piñatas act much closer to their real world counterparts than they do cartoon characters, with the game’s main focus centering on cultivating a garden that welcomes a wide variety of piñata to live in it. You’re essentially a backyard ecologist, helping bolster populations and keep the circle of life in check with not too many predator or prey piñata overtaking your garden.
In what feels like a marriage of Pokémon and Harvest Moon, Viva Piñata's a simple game that offers just enough depth to engage more adept players and overflows with charm that’ll enrapture most anyone who likes the idea of tending a fantastical animal sanctuary. If you pick only one Viva Piñata game, Trouble in Paradise is essentially feels like the original game with an added expansion built in. However if you wish to play on modern consoles both games are included in Rare Replay, a collection of 30 games from Rare’s history including Banjo Kazooie, all of which are playable in 3D on your current gen Xbox. And if that wasn’t good enough, Rare Replay comes in a double pack with Gears of War Ultimate Edition that sells for like thirteen dollars. So if everything said about Viva Piñata wasn’t enough to convince you, it also comes with a few dozen other games just in case you weren’t convinced it was worth a shot.

Most everyone well versed in the gaming sphere knows the tale of Final Fantasy’s origins. A desperate Square on the verge of collapse poured all their passion and effort into a last ditch effort- their Final Fantasy. A few decades later and Final Fantasy stands as a monolith of the industry, standing as perhaps the most dominant MMO of the modern day and with more entries than most franchises could ever dream of. So perhaps it was only fitting that for their sixteenth entry they decided to radically shift the course of the franchise. Final Fantasy XVI is no turn based RPG, in fact one could say its RPG elements at times feel borderline vestigial. But despite this brazen turn away from the genre it once defined, Final Fantasy confidently steps into its new future by asking one simple question. What if these fights felt and looked as cool as we always imagined they’d be?
In what feels like an earnest embrace of the bombastic nature of blockbuster games and cinema, Final Fantasy has turned itself into a feverishly fast character action game in the same sorts of conversations as Bayonetta and Devil May Cry. It helps, of course, that both DMC 5’s director and Platinum Games worked on the combat of Final Fantasy XVI. All star developers all came together to create a game that truly feels bombastic and triumphant. The story has shades of Game of Thrones in all the best ways with political machinations a plenty and villains so vile you’ll want to yell at the screen. Each combat encounter is a frantic dash as you cycle through abilities and dodge massive attacks at the last possible second. When you get in the zone the game feels incredible, with such freedom of expression in your combat even from early stages that by the time you hit midgame you’re swimming in ways to style on all of Final Fantasy’s most iconic foes. If any game justifies the PS5, it is Final Fantasy XVI. It’s an angry game about overthrowing horribly corrupt systems, a game about not just earning a good death, but living a good life- and what doing so requires. And even if you don’t care about that narrative stuff, it’s the most electrifying action game I’ve played since Hades. Final Fantasy may have stepped away from what it is known for, but I am confident it was a step firmly in the right direction.

The ultimate edition of Titanfall 2, the father of movement shooters (technically it's the overall superior sequel to the first big movement shooter), is currently on sale at 90% off for $3.99 Canadian on Steam. $2.94 American. 2.72 Euros. I'm not spending half an hour doing conversions, just know it's super cheap until September 18th 2023. And the devs have been releasing small updates lately, with private match out of beta after seven years of nothing, and game modes featured being changed. Official servers are still being Ddosed, but Northstar client says fuck that, and has extra game types and mod support.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition
Tumblr media

The year is almost over and it's once again the time to pick my favorite games. I didn't really manage to trim down my backlog this year - got 52 new games and only finished 46. I'm proud of finishing some games I've had in my backlog for 10+ years though! I revisited LittleBigPlanet 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 on PS3 and was able to cross them off my list of unfinished games.  One of the highlights this year was when I realized Project Zero 2 (Fatal Frame 2) is available on Wii U eShop. I own the original game on PS2 but never finished it, so for Halloween I got Project Zero 2 Wii Edition and finally saw how the game ends.  My "now playing" list didn't lack quality games, so choosing the top titles was difficult. But enough meaningless chatter and onto the best games I played in 2021!
1st place: HITMAN 3 (PS4, also available on other consoles and PC)
Agent 47, gaming's best-dressed bald guy is here to sweep the board again. Intricate assassination master plans can be cooked up while strolling through Argentinian vineyard or in the middle of a rave party in Berlin.
+ Adds great new ideas to the tried and true mission formula  + Highly inventive ways to get rid of your targets  + Gorgeously designed levels and wealth of in-game challenges offer high replayability  + Dramatic and impactful story moments balance out the silly tone of the game  + The whole World of Assassination trilogy is playable within the game if you own the prior games  - Some glitches and bugs at least near launch
See my posts about Hitman 3
2nd place: Titanfall 2 (PC, also available on PS4 and Xbox One)
Unexpectedly great experience. This first-person shooter took me by surprise even after hearing a lot of praise and going in with high expectations. I only played the single player campaign and even just that was enough to rank Titanfall 2 this high on my list.
+ Interesting setting and great characters, good story  + Fun and varying gameplay with fluid controls and good combat  + Piloting a mech is such a cool experience  + Beautiful, immersive environments and impressive level design  + Good audio with cinematic soundtrack  - No Ansel support breaks my heart
See my posts about Titanfall 2
3rd place: AI: The Somnium Files (Nintendo Switch, also available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One)
Brilliant murder mystery visual novel with a sci-fi flair. Story so unpredictable even Hercule Poirot and Sherlock Holmes together couldn't have seen it coming.
+ Pleasing presentation with clean visual style, animations, skillful voice acting and fitting music  + Fleshed out characters made me invested in the game  + Well-written dialogue and a grim story that kept me guessing to the end  + A good amount of gameplay sections with unique mechanics in addition to visual novel content  - Some timed gameplay sequences required trial and error for me to figure out how to proceed
See my posts about AI: The Somnium Files
Honorable mention: Watch Dogs: Legion (PC, also available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series)
I almost couldn't stop playing all the side content to progress the main story. It was so much fun to just pester around in near future London with my team of hacker grannies. Spent over 60 hours in the game and also got the story DLC.
+ Appealing setting and story with memorable villains  + A lot of freedom to customize your team of operatives and gameplay style  + Impressively beautiful open world, seriously good work on this front  + Good soundtrack and voice acting  - No Ansel support, photo mode could have been better  - Some crashes to desktop and occasional glitches  - Recycled base character models made operatives less distinct in the long run, though recycling is understandable with the whole London population being available for recruitment
See my posts about Watch Dogs: Legion
Honorable mention: Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale (Nintendo 3DS eShop)
It was a tough choice between this slice-of-life adventure and Bravely Second: End Layer but ultimately I thought Attack of the Friday Monsters deserves a mention thanks to the unique feeling it evokes.
+ Heartwarming story and curious perspective to storytelling  + Beautiful art style and graphics  + Environments and characters bring out an unprecedented feeling of coziness  + Short and sweet experience  - Card collecting gets a bit tedious if you want to complete everything in the game
Honorable mention: Project Zero 2: Wii Edition (Wii U, also available on Wii)
A remake of a classic Japanese survival horror game initially released on PS2. The atmosphere of this game is to die for (heh).
+ Beautifully remade character models and textures  + Superbly chilling audio design  + Terrifying atmosphere and tension throughout the game, a master class of horror game design  + Interesting story and lore  - Not as interesting rituals as in the first game  - Horizontal camera motion controls with Wii Remote were unintuitive  - No Japanese audio option
See my posts about Project Zero 2
Honorable mention: Metroid Dread (Nintendo Switch)
Metroid Dread was surely worth the wait for series' fans and a great addition to any action-loving Switch owner's collection. Samus is back to refine the genre of metroidvanias.
+ Good looking environments and tense atmosphere - E.M.M.I. is a truly great enemy addition  + Nice ambient audio  + Gameplay gets the more fun the more you progress and unlock abilities, satisfying boss fights and tight controls  + A good amount of challenge and the game's length is just right  + Cool story (game also begins with a good recap of series' story for newcomers)  - Probably the first game where I feel I would have needed accessibility options for controls (Shinespark)  - Occasional frustration with E.M.M.I. encounters and not knowing where to go next at some point in the game  - I didn't feel a need to go back and replay the game or get 100% completion
See my posts about Metroid Dread
Nominees for my personal Game of the Year 2021
Only games I have finished in 2021 have been included.
7th Dragon III Code: VFD (3DS)  A Short Hike (PC)  AI: The Somnium Files (Switch)  Aragami (PC)  Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale (3DS)  Bayonetta 2 (Switch)  Bravely Second: End Layer (3DS)  BUSTAFELLOWS (Switch)  Café Enchanté (Switch)  Code Vein (PC)  Deliver Us The Moon (PC)  Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories (PC)  Donut County (PC)  Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation (3DS)  Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (PC)  HITMAN 3 (PS4)  Kirby: Planet Robobot (3DS)  LittleBigPlanet 2 (PS3)  Mass Effect: Andromeda (PC)  Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3)  Metroid Dread (Switch)  Monster Hunter Rise (Switch)  Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings Of Ruin (Switch)  New Pokémon Snap (Switch)  New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS)  Part Time UFO (Switch)  PGA Tour 2K21 (PC)  Picross e7 (3DS)  Project Zero 2: Wii Edition (WiiU)  Psychonauts 2 (PC)  Rain on Your Parade (PC)  Samorost 1 (PC)  Sanrio characters Picross (3DS)  Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (PC)  Super Mario Galaxy (Switch)  SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE (PC)  Superliminal (PC)  The Ascent (PC)  The Procession to Calvary (PC)  Titanfall 2 (PC)  Watch Dogs: Legion (PC)  Watch Dogs: Legion - Bloodline (PC)  What Remains of Edith Finch (PC)  Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country (Switch)  Yakuza 3 Remastered (PC)  Yakuza 4 Remastered (PC)
Wishing you all the best to year 2022!

Looking at the current deals on the xbox store in case I feel like not exercising restraint, and Titanfall 2 Ultimate Edition is only $3.99 AUD (I think it's like $2.99 USD?) right now. If anyone ever thought of playing it, especially back when I was obsessed with that game and posted about it a lot, now's the time to get it
Also, among other things in that edition you get the special version of my girlfriend titan

//So as everyone knows, there’s a “certain contagion” going around right now and its keeping a lot of people from leaving their house in order to avoid getting and/or spreading the said contagion.  So like myself, I imagine you all must be enjoying all of the comforts of home life: writing, sleeping, reading, watching your prefered streaming service, endless hours on social media, and of course, gaming.
Now to be completely straight with you, gaming is how I’ve been spending MOST of my time so far. Some friends I don’t get to play with enough have been stuck inside too, which means that now is the perfect time for us to make up for lost opportunities, but being on my PlayStation means that I can’t be on tumblr - even though I DO want to be more active on here right now. So that got me thinking that maybe I should enable my mutuals to join me in my gaming shenanigans. That way I might reach some sort of compromise on the situation while also getting to know some of you in a way I might not have previously.
So! As of now (at least until the “social distancing” ends) mutuals are free to ask me for my PlayStation Network ID, my Nintendo Online ID, or any other relevant gaming info so that we can hook up and have a good time!  If you do, I’ll either hit you up on tumblr or Discord (whichever you prefer!) and I’ll privately send you the info. I’d do it on the dash, but I don’t want my personal account to get flooded with random messages and spam.
“Ah, but wait! We might could play games together Aster, but what games in particular might we play?” you may be asking. Well, that would be a fair point regardless, so for your convenience, here is a list of game consoles I have and what multiplayer games I have for them:
PlayStation 4
Overwatch
Dead by Daylight
Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection
Devil May Cry 5
Saints Row IV: Re-Elected
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
Skullgirls 2nd Encore
Friday the 13th the Game
Apex Legends
Final Fantasy XV Multiplayer: Comrades
RWBY Grimm Eclipse
Dead Rising 4: Frank’s Big Package
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Mass Effect: Andromeda
Titanfall 2
Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist
Soul Calibur VI
Payday 2: Crimewave Edition
Dead Rising 2: Off the Record
Dead Rising 2
Read Rising
Evolve
God Eater Resurrection
Overcooked! (I can’t remember if this one has online multiplayer or not tbh)
Rayman Legends (This one as well actually)
7 Days to Die
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy
Grand Theft Auto V
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4
PlayStation Vita
Skullgirls 2nd Encore
Mobile
Fire Emblem Heroes (obviously)
RWBY Amity Arena
Fate/Grand Order
Kingdom Hearts Union Cross
Nintendo Switch
Fire Emblem Warrirors
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Human Fall Flat
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Splatoon 2
Cross Play (these games can be played on and with multiple different consoles)
Minecraft
Dauntless
Fortnite
Most F2P games with a “battle pass” subscription service.
...And that’s about it. I think? I don’t know, if I missed any I’ll add them later. And no, I unfortunately don’t have a PC or an Xbox of any sort.  But I do have everything, you see above! I haven’t played some as much as others, and some of the ones with offline play haven’t played online at all, but I’d be open to trying anything! The same goes if you know of a game that I could be playing, but is not listed. Also, I’d be glad to take recommendations too! But regardless, this all depends on you gathering up your courage and sliding into my DMs to message me about it. Though of course, nobody has to slide into my DMs at all, because like I said, this is really just a nice thing I thought I could be doing with my mutuals while we’re all holed up in our homes.

I loved the first Titanfall game. Never bothered with 2 when it came out though, but just picked up the Ultimate Edition for £3.74 and I’m loving it! I said since the day I got Titanfall 1 that it would benefit so much from the campaign, and now I am slowly falling in love with the relationship between BT and Cooper. BT straight up tells Sarah nah bitch, idc that he was only a rifleman when we linked, it was our last hope and now we are inseparable, he is a qualified pilot now. Suck your mum x
