Ram Jaane plot
A nameless boy, who was abandoned at a very young age, faces taunts from the other children in his village. He asks the priest what his name is, to which the priest answers Ram Jaane (God knows), which the boy accepts as his name. Ram Jaane and his friend Murli are caught stealing from a train by a corrupt police officer, Inspector Chewte (Puneet Issar). Chewte beats Ram Jaane in jail, but he is released without charge. Years later, Ram Jaane (Shah Rukh Khan) is working under Sameer Sanvla (Tinnu Anand) – Sanvla is murdered by Chewte and when Ram Jaane attempts to kill Chewie, he is again put in prison. When released from prison, Ram Jaane is taken by Murli (Vivek Mushran) to “Apna Ghar”, a home set up for the homeless – Murli believes that this is the best way to reform him, it is here where Ram Jaane is reunited with his childhood friend Bela (Juhi Chawla), whom he is in love with.
However, even in Apna Ghar, Ram Jaane still remains a criminal and even manages to influence the children in the house to follow in his footsteps. Apna Ghar is soon targeted by Baweja (G.P. Singh), who encourages his gang to attack Apna Ghar and all its residents, which Ram Jaane is able to stop. Ram Jaane is then seen shooting Baweja in the head. Chewte learns of Baweja’s death and is determined to have his murderer put in prison – he approaches Apna Ghar and starts beating one of the children, which leads to Murli and the others attacking Chewte and his fellow officers. In the riot, one child gets killed. Murli blames Ram Jaane for this tragedy and Ram Jaane runs away, he attempts to make Bela run away with him (as he believes she loves him), but she refuses. Bela is, in fact, in love with Murli – Murli realized this all along and reciprocated her feelings, but did not show it as he realized that Ram Jaane also loved her. Murli begs Bela to attempt to reform Ram Jaane. However, whilst trying to reform him, Bela begins to dislike him for his criminal ways. Bhau (Gulshan Grover), Ram Jaane’s rival and Technicolour (Pankaj Kapur), Ram Jaane’s former partner in crime hatch a plot to kill Ram Jaane – when he hears of their plan, he kills them both and then rushes to Apna Ghar to stop their henchmen from killing anyone. Eventually, Chewte arrives but is shot by Ram Jaane.
Ram Jaane is taken to court where he confesses to all of his sins – the court decides that he must be sentenced to death. The boys of Apna Ghar are in awe of Ram Jaane, as he plans to “die with a smile.” The boys think this is courageous and plan to follow in his criminal footsteps. Murli pleads with Ram Jaane not to die bravely, so the boys won’t want to follow his path, but Ram Jaane refuses. On the day of his death, with Murli and the boys watching, Ram Jaane feigns fear, crying and pleading for his life. One by one, the boys remove their red headbands, the symbol of being members of Ram Jaane’s gang. After his death, Bela and Murli read a letter from Ram Jaane to Bela, which states that he feels guilty for everything he had done and that he had planned intentionally for Bela to leave him and to go back to Murli.

Kaalia: The "Angry Young Man"
Let's talk about Tinnu Anand's Kaalia.
Tumblr media
Released in 1981, the plot revolves around Kaalia, who is jailed after robbing his brother's employer. Leaving prison more hardened than before, Kaalia seeks revenge against the employer for ultimately causing his brother's death.
Tumblr media
This movie is quintessential old Bollywood, following the classic tropes present in that time period (wealthy evil villain, damsel in distress, hero you root for). Kaalia also balances the elements of the Bollywood formula (action + comedy + romance) without any sort of overexaggeration.
Tumblr media
Kaalia is filled with a casting list that is instantly recognizable to any longtime consumer of Bollywood classics: Amitabh Bachchan, Parveen Babi, Amjad Khan, and Pran. In their time, the first two actors were famous for playing protagonists, while the latter two always played villain roles (although in Kaalia, Pran plays a good guy. Scary, but ultimately good.)
Tumblr media
The music, composed by R.D. Burman, is filled with many evergreen songs sung by legends like Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, and Mohammed Rafi. Here are three for your listening pleasure:
Kaun Kisi Ko Baandh Saka
Jahan Teri Yeh Nazar Hai
Jab Se Tumko Dekha
The movie is 165 minutes long. Stream it on YouTube here with some popcorn and enjoy!

Salaar Teaser: Violent Men Called “One Man” The Most Violent!
Tumblr media
“Lion, Cheetah, Tiger, Elephant; Very Dangerous. But Not In Jurassic Park. Because In That Park, Rules The Dinosaur!”  KGF’s production house Hombale Films premiered an explosive teaser to the highly anticipated PAN-India action-thriller “Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire" on July 6, 2023. "Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire" is expected to be released in theaters worldwide in December 2023. Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire Official Teaser: https://youtu.be/bUR_FKt7Iso?si=rtL9VSK09-Hgu6qh The teaser is ultra-thrilling and action-packed. It showcases intense gang wars. As the teaser begins, we see veteran actor Tinnu Anand intimidating a bunch of gunmen with his dialogue delivery. Throughout the teaser, we can see glimpses of armed gang confrontations and bomb blasts. It is still unclear why these confrontations are happening. But I am very sure that this action movie is going to be a high-octane gang war! After all, it is “Ceasefire”! At the end, we get a glimpse of our favorite Rebel Star, Prabhas. Although his picture is a bit hazy in the teaser, I think, Prabhas appears to be in great shape for a power-packed ride. When Adipurush was released and Prabhas starred in it as Lord Ram, speculations arose that he appeared bulky as compared to what he was during “Bahubali”. But I think he may have lost those extra pounds for Salaar. No matter what, in the teaser glimpse, Prabhas does look dashing, ready to take on multiple gangs with the blows of his fists. From the teaser, it is unclear who the actual villain in this movie will be. But I think it’s better to keep that a secret till the story unfolds at the theaters. After Rocky Bhai of KGF, I believe, Prabhas as “Salaar” is one action star who can be addressed as a “true violent hero” of Indian cinema. Read the full article

Merry Christmas Movie Review: MERRY CHRISTMAS is well made and laced with a fine performance.
Merry Christmas Review {3.5/5} & Review Rating
MERRY CHRISTMAS is the story of two strangers and their unforgettable adventure. In the late 80s, Albert (Vijay Sethupathi) returns to his home in Bombay after several years on Christmas Eve. His mother passed away a year ago and he's devastated over the loss. He goes out to have a drink. At a restobar, he meets Maria (Katrina Kaif) and her mute daughter, Annie (Pari Maheshwari Sharma). Albert and Maria start talking and soon, Maria invites him home. She reveals that her husband Jerome (Luke Kenny) is cheating on her. Albert, meanwhile, opens up about his dead girlfriend Rosie (Radhika Apte). Maria puts Annie to sleep and goes out with Albert. When they return, they get the shock of their lives. And this is just the beginning of many twists and turns that await them.
Tumblr media
MERRY CHRISTMAS is based on the book 'Le Monte-Charge' by Frédéric Dard. Sriram Raghavan, Arijit Biswas, Pooja Ladha Surti and Anukriti Pandey's story is unconventional and gripping. Sriram Raghavan, Arijit Biswas, Pooja Ladha Surti and Anukriti Pandey's screenplay is captivating and after a point, doesn't let your attention wander even for a second. But the writing stretches at some parts. Sriram Raghavan, Arijit Biswas, Pooja Ladha Surti and Anukriti Pandey's dialogues are sharp and witty, especially the ones mouthed by Vijay Sethupathi.
Sriram Raghavan's direction is bravura. The filmmaker's distinct execution style and trademark stamp are visible from start to finish, be it in the film's vintage aspects, music and of course, in the twists and turns. Also, this time he gives an out-of-the-box experience as he uses the slow burn technique. As a result, nothing shocking happens until a few minutes before the intermission. Post-interval, the film goes on a high as too many amusing and thrilling developments occur. From here on, the audience will be completely on the edge of their seats. The climax is unexpected.
On the flipside, the film might test the patience of the audience in the first half, especially in the first 15 minutes. Ideally, the run time should have been two hours. The ending is a bit abrupt and it might not be acceptable to some of the moviegoers. Lastly, the film has a niche appeal and is not meant for the mass audience.
Speaking of performances, it’s a Vijay Sethupathi show without a shred of doubt. The actor, with his deadpan expressions and dry sense of humour, takes the cake. Only he could have pulled this role off so smoothly. Katrina Kaif also puts her best foot forward and delivers a stupendous performance. Certain scenes were challenging but she manages to deliver a convincing act. Sanjay Kapoor (Ronnie Fernandes) is entertaining. Vinay Pathak (Paresh Kamdar) is rocking, though he has limited screen time. Tinnu Anand (Albert’s uncle) and Pratima Kannan (Lakshmi; cop) leave a huge mark. Ashwini Kalsekar (Scarlett) is there for just a scene and is memorable. Pari Maheshwari Sharma is cute. Luke Kenny and Radhika Apte are fair in cameo appearances.
Merry Christmas – Hindi Trailer | Vijay Sethupathi | Katrina Kaif | Sriram Raghavan | Ramesh Taurani
Pritam's music is well-woven into the narrative. The title track and 'Raat Akeli Thi' are the best of the lot. 'Nazar Teri' and 'Dil Ki Mez Pe' are just okay. Daniel B George's background score enhances the impact, especially in the climax.
Madhu Neelakandan's cinematography is topnotch. Mayur Sharma's production design is realistic yet appealing. The same applies to Anaita Shroff Adajania and Sabina Halder's costumes. Hira Yadav and Sunil Rodrigues' action is devoid of gore and is minimal. Pooja Ladha Surti's editing could have been sharper.
On the whole, MERRY CHRISTMAS is a well-made thriller and is laced with a fine performance by Vijay Sethupathi. At the box office, it’ll need a strong word of mouth to succeed as it appeals only to the multiplex audience in the urban areas.

32 Years of Nayakan.
Nayakan also spelled Nayagan, is a 1987 Indian Tamil-language crime-drama film written and directed by Mani Ratnam and starring Kamal Haasan. It is loosely based on the real-life Bombay underworld don Varadarajan Mudaliar, and sympathetically depicts the struggle of South Indians living in Bombay (now Mumbai). The film also stars Saranya Ponvannan in her film debut. Karthika, Nassar, Janagaraj, Delhi Ganesh and Tinnu Anand play significant roles. The soundtrack and score of the film were composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The film has been inspired from Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 film The Godfather.
Principal photography commenced in November 1986 with test shoots featuring Haasan. The film was released on 21 October 1987 on the occasion of Diwali and received critical acclaim worldwide. Kamal Haasan's performance as Velu Nayakan earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor. The film also earned the National Awards for Best Cinematography (P. C. Sriram) and Best Art Direction (Thotta Tharani). The film was India's official submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1988 at the 60th Academy Awards, but was not nominated.
In 2005, the magazine TIME included Nayagan in its list of "All-Time 100 Best Films". The film was also included in The Moving Arts Film Journal's list of greatest films of all time. Nayagan was also included in NDTV's list "India's 20 greatest films". CNN-IBN included the film in its list of "100 greatest Indian films of all time".
The film was dubbed in Telugu under the title Nayakudu. It was also remade in Hindi as Dayavan in 1988 starring Vinod Khanna. A Hindi dub of the film was released in 1999 as Velu Nayakan.
