Flashback: Freaks - Timmy Trumpet & Savage

16th December 2024.

'APT.' is #1 again for the second straight week (and sixth week total!) so we'll flashback ten years to 2014 when the #1 song was Timmy Trumpet and Savage's 'Freaks'

"Timmy play your trumpet, let the people go beserk!"

Great song - genuinely love this one. It goes hard. Technically Timmy Trumpet is an Australian DJ, but Savage is a Kiwi legend, and NZ is the only country that 'Freaks' reached #1 in (it peaked at #3 in Aus), so I feel comfortable claiming this as an NZ song.

That pounding bassline is amazing here. My only criticism of the song is that it's way too short and needs to be listened to on repeat.

'Freaks' was Savage's third NZ #1 and Timmy Trumpet's first and so far only. Trumpet is still making music and is one of the world's top DJ's, while Savage has sort of semi-retired I think? He's still occasionally releasing new singles and I saw him in concert a year or two ago, but I think he's definitely choosing to slow down a bit now.

Anyway, great song, and I'm glad the flashback reminded me of it! Let's finish up with the great viral video 'When Mom Isn't Home' which utilises 'Freaks' to great effect!
